Played at the DY Patil ground in Nerul, this match proved once again that left arm spinners are indeed rare but special. Watching them bowl in their full flow is nothing but a treat for the cricket connoisseurs and once such example was slow left arm spinner Ashwin Shelke in this particular match between Pandurangwadi CC and Young Stars Marine Drive where in Pandurangwadi won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Their decision to bowl first was spot on as Young Stars Marine Drive were skittled out for mere 99runs in 39overs. The bowler who single handedly ran through the batting line up of Young Stars Marine Drive was Ashwin Shelke as he bamboozled the batsman with his terrific spin. Ashwin came up with envious as well as match winning bowling figures of 7/15 in 10 overs with 5 maidens which is amongst the bowling figures in this year’s Kanga. Shelke’s 7/15 was supported well by Himanshu who also took 3wkts.

In reply, Pandurangwadi CC declared their innings at 108/4 where in Vighnesh Pashte top scored with 47 in 21 overs. Young Stars Marine Drive scored 101/6 in 31 overs before the end of the game’s play. Ashwin took another 4wkts in the 2nd innings taking his tally of wickets in the match to 11/48 which helped his team win the match on 1st innings. Played at the Karnatak Sporting Association, Cross Maidan in Mumbai, it was a match between two heavy weight teams consisting of talented domestic level cricketers where in MCA colts won the toss and elected to bat first considering that they have a good batting line up.

Their decision to bat first was spot on as their top order gave an excellent start with opener Suved Parkar scoring an aggressive 81 off just 91balls while no.2 and 3 batsman chipped in with 20’s. Pranav Menon at no.4 fell just 1run short of what could have been a classy century. Unfortunately Pranav remained unbeaten till the end as he anchored the innings with his 99* off 142balls which included 6fours and 4sixes. Pranav was supported excellently by Atif Sheikh who scored a gutsy half century at no.10. From the bowling side, Vignesh Solanki once again proved his mettle with the ball taking 6/96 in 18 overs.

In reply, Karnatak SA gave a fitting reply with the bat as they scored 315/4 in 60.5 overs to win the match on 1st innings. Right handed Eknath kerkar at no.3 who is known to fire at the right occasions once again came in and took on the bowlers as he went on to score 169 off just 161balls to help his team surpass MCA colt’s score. Eknath smashed elegant as well as some powerful cricketing shots as he hit 13fours and 6sixes at a strike rate of 100+ while Sagar Chabbria and Vidyadhar Kamath chipped in with half centuries. It was a match full of positives as there were many good performances but it was certainly Eknath’s ton which caught everyone’s notice. Played at the Azad Maidan Ground in Mumbai, it was the final face of between Podar College (Matunga) and Siddarth Anand Bhavan (Fort) where in Siddarth Anand Bhavan won the toss and elected to bat first in order to make a big 1st innings score.

However, they could not capitalize much on their decision to bat first as they managed to score only 80/8 in 15 overs. Had they scored above 100, things could have been a little tough for the opposition. Akshad at no.3 was the highest scorer with run a ball 27 while rest of the batsman failed to create much of an impact. From the bowling side right-arm off spinner Rohit Desai really bowled a tight spell taking 3/17 in 3 overs. Rohit kept the economy under 6 while bowling and also gave important breakthroughs.

Podar College in reply chased down the score in just 13.5 overs with the loss of just 3wkts. Even though the openers fell early but Parag chipped in with an important contribution scoring 31* off just 25balls which helped Podar chase down successfully. Podar College win the tournament while Rohit Desai was declared ‘Player of the match’. Played at the Worli Sports Club, it was the all important finals between two teams who have fought their way hard to reach the ultimate face off. MIG- a team full of young talents while Rizvi- a proven strong & powerful team who have been winning this title since the last 3years clashed against each other for the finals. MIG won the toss and elected to bat first in order to put the opposition under pressure.

Batting first, MIG scored 175/10 in 96.4 overs where in middle order bat Akash Singh scored 32 while Shavraj Durve once again gave a useful contribution down the order with his unbeaten 38. Right arm fast bowler Abhishek Jaiswar bowled an excellent spell of fast bowling as he came up with match winning bowling figures of 5/38 in 20overs.

However, MIG boys gave a fitting reply with the ball as they restricted the strong Rizvi batting line up to just 100 runs in 44.1 overs. Apart from opener Awais Khan, not a single batsman crossed the 20run mark. Slow left arm spinner Aryan Dalal keeps on proving his worth with the ball as he took 4/30 in 15 overs while Jay Dhatrak chipped in with 3/25 in 10.1 overs.

MIG batted again for the second innings till 67/2 in 24 overs before the end of the game’s play where in MIG won the finals on 1st innings. It was a memorable win for MIG dethroning Rizvi after 3years. Abhinav Singh was declared the best batsman of the tournament, while Umar Khan with 2 five wkt hauls was declared the best bowler, Arjun Dani was awarded the best fielder while all-rounder Akash Singh with 177runs at an average of 40+ with 2 fifties & 8wkts(BBI-3/37) was declared ‘man of the series” Cricketgraph congratulates all the young awardees while wishes luck to all the players for a great season ahead.

Held at the Sainath Sports Club in Mumbai, it was a match between two promising teams namely Prabhodan SC & Sainath SC where in Sainath SC won the toss and elected to bat first in order to make a big 1st innings total.

To an extent their decision was not spot on as they were bundled out for just 133runs in the 1st innings in 57.4 overs with Deepak Gupta top scoring with a 84ball 30 at the middle order. From the bowling side Nikhil Giri was the pick of the bowlers taking 3/30 in 13 overs which included 3maidens while chinaman Jaikhush also chipped in with 2wickets. However, Sainath SC gave a tremendous comeback with the ball as they completely destroyed the Prabhodhan SC batting line up & restricted them to just 25/all out in 20.5 overs. Right arm pacer Parth Naik was simply exceptional with the ball as he came up with a match winning spell of 6/11 in 10.5 overs which also included 7maidens. The bowling figures are just excellent for his age and Parth definitely looks promising. Off-spinner Sharik Baloch also gave a great support as he also bowled really well taking 3/5 in 7overs (4maidens).

Sainath SC scored 147/10 in their 2nd innings where in Parth Naik was the highest scorer making an unbeaten 50* off just 66balls at no.9. Off-spinner Abhishek Jha bowled really well as he scalped 5/42 in 12.3overs. Prabodhan boys were 83/9 in their 2nd innings in 43 overs before the end of the game’s play. Off-spinner Sharik baloch once again showed his potential with the ball as he took another 4wkts in the 2nd innings followed by 2wkts for Parth. Sainath SC won the match on 1st innings and it was definitely these two boys who took everyone’s attention. Played at the Venus, Malad, it was a match between two young and promising teams namely Kurla SC and Apollo CC where in Apollo CC won the toss and elected to bowl first in order to restrict the opposition to a low total.

Made to bat first, Kurla SC scored a healthy total of 248/all out in 83.2 overs where in the top order failed to contribute but the lower middle order did the job. Rohil Jadhav scored a 33 at no.7 but it was Viraj Kavle at no.8 who resurrected the innings back with a valiant 84 off 141balls. It was his useful contribution down the order which helped them cross the 200run mark. Off spinner Siddhant Valankar was the pick of the bowlers taking 4/31 while Nestor Naronha chipped in with 3wkts.

In reply, Apollo CC failed to make a big score as they were all out for just 122runs in 57.2 overs. The primary destroyer in chief was their left arm spinner Omkar Karandikar who bowled an excellent spell of 6/41 in 19.2 overs which completely changed the game in their favor. Omkar has been in a excellent form with the ball and certainly looks promising for the bigger things. Kurla SC won the match on 1st innings and it was certainly omkar’s bowling which remained the highlight perfomance of the match. Played at the Khar Gymkhana on 29th October 2017, it was a match between Regal CC and Khar Gymkhana boys where in Regal CC won the toss and elected to bowl first as the wicket was good to bowl at.

Batting first, Khar Gymkhana did a decent job of notching up 239/8 before they declared their innings after batting for 42.5 overs to get some results. The main reason for Khar Gymkhana to cross the 200 run mark was their right handed aggressive opener Priyank Shetty who scored 111 off just 125balls.. With 18fours and a six, Priyank made sure that the scoreboard kept on ticking at a healthy run rate as he also played at a good strike rate of 89. Apart from him, Sahil Kukreja also did a good job down the order chipping in with an important half century. From the bowling side, Slow left arm spinner Bharat Meher was the lone warrior as he bowled a fantastic spell of 6/61 in 13.5 overs. Bharat as always kept on troubling the batsman with his good line and length along with his confusing spin.

In reply, Regal CC scored 188/9 in 41 overs before the end of the game’s play where in the match was declared drawn. It was a neck to neck match where Khar bowlers fell just one wicket short of what could have been a win for their team. The bowlers did a good job especially Anirudha Mainkar who took 4/61 in 12 overs. The match was declared drawn but it was definitely Priyank’s attacking ton which caught everyone’s attention.

Played at the New Hind Sports Club, Dadkar Maidan, it was a match between two big teams Payyade SC and New Hind SC where in New Hind won the toss and elected to bowl first in order to restrict the opposition to a low total.

However, Payyade SC batted really well scoring 307runs in their 1st innings in 65.4 overs. Attacking opener Harsh Tank took on the bowlers from the word ‘go’ as he counter attacked everyone en route his 186 coming off just 174balls. Right-handed Harsh smashed 15fours and 7sixes while equally did good running between the wickets. In fact it was Harsh’s batting which helped them score 300+ or else the rest of the batsman just managed to score in their 20’s and 30’s. Parikshit Valsangkar bowled well taking 4/80 in 20 overs.

In reply, New Hind were all out for just 203 runs in 56.3 overs. Even though the top 3 failed, Bhavin Thakkar at no.4 scored 81* off 135balls to keep the hopes alive. Bhavin lacked support from the other end or they could have managed to atleast draw the match. Kalpesh Sawant and Rohan Raje were the pick of the bowlers taking 4 & 3wkts respectively. Payyade SC won the match by 104 runs on 1st innings and Harsh Tank’s batting was definitely an eye opener to the cricketing circles that he has a appetite for scoring big as this was not the 1st instance where he scored big.

It was the all important finals between two teams who have fought their way hard to reach the ultimate face off namely Al-Barkat MMI & Rizvi Springfield High school at the cross maidan where in Al Barkat boys won the toss and elected to bat first in order to make a big total and put the opposition under pressure.

Batting first, Al Barkat scored a decent 97/4 in 15 overs which is defendable though a score of 110+ could have done no harm! Opener Shadak Khan was the highest scorer as he scored 46 off just 28balls (2fours, 2sixes) to steer his team to atleast 90+ . Saad Sheik bowled well taking 2wkts while the rest of the bowlers also did a fairly decent job.

Chasing 98 at 6runs+ per over, opener Faizan Rabbani from Rizvi Springfield took the responsibility of chasing on his shoulders as he scored a match winning 60* off just 42balls(7fours, 2sixes) which helped his team chase down the score successfully. Faizan played confidently and anchored his team’s chase as they won the match comfortably by 8wkts and 8balls to spare while Faizan was declared ‘player of the match’.
