Match 1-Eknath Shinde Cricket Club II vs Speed Cricket Academy

After being put to bat first and both the openers out for ducks, it seemed for a moment that everything was working out for Speed Cricket Academy team. However, Ashay Sardesai coming at no.3 alongwith Gaurav Jathar at 4 stitched a match winning stand of 137 runs for the 3rd wicket. Aashay scored a polished knock of 83 in just 53 balls (7 fours, 3 sixes) while Gaurav Jathar scored a solid 68 off 50 balls (8 fours , 1six). Quick cameos by wicket-keeper batsman Sumit Ghadigaonkar (23 off 8) and Atul Singh (16* off 3) ensured Eknath Shinde CC reached a total of 199/6 in 20 overs. The bowlers were taken for a beating in the death overs with Ajay Sharma’s 3/41 being the best bowling figures.

Speed C.A in reply failed to keep up with the run rate reaching only 137/6 in 20 overs. They had their batsman chipping in with 20’s but none proved to be effective. Hemant Buchade (2/22 in 4 overs), Atul Singh (2/30 in 4 overs) & Aashay Palkar (1/18 in 3 overs) were the pick of the bowlers.

Eknath Shinde CC II won the match by 62 runs while Ashay Sardesai was declared ‘Man of the Match”

Match 2-Eknath Shinde CC – A vs Golden Star CC

Eknath Shinde CC after electing to bat first registered a total of 190/3 in 20 overs. Akhil Herwadkar opening the innings led from the front hitting an aggressive 74 off 48 balls (10 fours, 1 six). The rest of the batters chipped in with cameos as their team reached a very competitive total. Mahesh Jogale with 3/44 in 3 overs was expensive but the pick of the bowlers for Golden Star team.

Golden Star CC in reply were bundled out for just 143 runs as the opposition bowlers proved to be quite difficult. Golden Star team lacked a batsman who could score 50-70 odd runs as they kept on losing wickets after giving starts. Shashikant Kadam (2/14 in 4 overs), Akhil Herwadkar (3/17 in 2 overs) and Prasad Patil (2/31 in 4 overs) were the pick of the bowlers resulting in a commanding win.

Elite cricketer’s schedule demands regular travelling for matches who live in hotels and out of suitcases.  This can pose a number of challenges to meeting nutritional needs. Limited food availability, different standards of food hygiene, wrong timings, quantity of food, unfamiliar foods, and interference with usual routines can see cricketers either, gaining weight, facing problems in the game/training or failing to meet their nutritional requirements.

And therefore, as a Sports Nutrition expert, I guide cricketers for making healthier choices and do easy to do nutritive meal preps when on tours. For cricketers on tour and travelling in hectic schedule, the following tips may help achieve their dietary goals:

  1. Prioritize and be clear about your nutritional goals and stay committed while travelling.
  2. Do some prior investigation to find out what to expect at your destination.
  3. Pre-organising your accommodation with meals and cooking facilities gives you more control over your meals, helps you make healthier choices and can keep food costs down.  If you choose not to cook, make sure your accommodation is conveniently located near shops and restaurants.
  4. Food safety and hygiene should be major concern as it may lead to stomach upsets.
  5. Take a stock of healthy foods with you so you always have access to something suitable. Breakfast cereal Protein bars, nuts, basic supplements, sports drinks, and fruits are good options to pack.
  6. Try sticking to the meal options in the nutrition and make good choices in restaurants.  Beware of hidden fat, added sugars, about cooking methods and ingredients in restaurant meals. Be free to ask the waiter and request changes if necessary.
  7. Beware of the weather conditions of the match venue and carry super foods accordingly.
  8. Beware of the banned substances that might be used by someone else which might get added to your meal preps.

Mumbai Police B after being put to bat first notched up a total of 150/6 in 20 overs which is quite defendable. Opener Rohan Bhosale top scored with the bat hitting a crucial 51 off 39 balls (5 fours) at a time when other batters were struggling. Late cameos of by Yogesh Patil (27 off 15) and Yogesh Sawant (23 off 13) ensured Mumbai police crossed the 150 runs mark. Bhushan Patil with 3/32 was the pick of the bowlers.

HPCL in reply failed to keep up with the run rate managing only 96/10 in 18 overs. Kailash Kolekar came up with a match winning bowling spell of 5/19 in 4 overs which made life difficult for the batsman. Kailash was spot on with the ball taking wickets at regular intervals as Mumbai Police B won the match by 54 runs.

KC Gandhi High School after being put to bat first at Union Cricket Academy Ground in Kalyan managed to post a moderate total of 119/3 in 20 overs. Despite wickets in hand, they found it difficult to attack in the death overs. Karan (35*) and Prathamesh Patil (19*) with their quick cameos ensured atleast a respectable total for KC Gandhi. PAB bowlers really did an impressive job coming up with economical and tight bowling spells.  Darshan Rathod (1/25 in 4 overs), Pranay Shinde (0/21 in 4 overs) and Daksh Patil (0/20) were particularly impressive not allowing the batsman to free their arms.

PAB Cricket Academy in replay chased down the score in 19.4 overs winning the match by 5 wkts. Their openers put up a 65 run stand with opener Raj Patil contributing the bulk of the runs and remaining unbeaten on 44* off 62 balls. On a wicket which supported the bowlers more from both the teams, it was certainly difficult to score runs but a calm knock by Raj ensured his team crossed the victory line with ease.

Raj Patil was awarded the man of the match award for his steady unbeaten knock

It was a commanding win for PAB Cricket Academy as they reach the finals of the prestigious U12 Salgaonkar Tournament ‘19

Benetton Cricket Club vs DSCA TPL

Benetton CC after being put to bat first put up a total of 183/5 in 20 overs which is quite a competitive total. Wicket-keeper batsman Sanjay Sansare top scored smashing an impressive 82 off 54 balls at no.3 (8 fours, 3 sixes) while Ketan Patil’s blazing 20 ball 51 at no.6 which had 5 sixes propelled the team towards a healthy total. Ketan’s 20 ball 51 also becomes the fastest fifty so far in this season of TPL.

DSCA TPL in reply managed to reach only 163/9 in 20 overs thanks to some tight bowling by the Benetton bowlers. Pranav Dhanavade (46 off 30 balls) and Shashank Jadhav (43 off 30) were looking dangerous at one point but Rupesh Tiwari (2/27 in 4 overs) and Rahul Solkar (2/32 in 4 overs) came up with crucial spells as Benetton CC won the match by 20 runs while Sanjay Sansare was declared ‘Man of the match”

Over the years Mandar Garude has been one utility player who often comes very handy with the bat and very lethal with the ball too.

Intellect Designs after being put to bat first at the Oval Maidan Ground were reduced to just 55 runs all out in 14.3 overs. Leading from the front as the pick of the bowler, Mandar Garude came up with envious bowling figures of 5/12 in 3 overs. Mandar was spot on not allowing any batsman to settle which eventually resulted in Intellect Designs getting all out for a very low total. Abhijeet Chavan with 3/16 in 4 overs was also impressive.

Chasing 56 runs was a mere formality as WNS B openers sealed the game in 5.4 overs with Saurav Tendulkar (13*) and Harshad Mahulkar (39*) remaining unbeaten.

WNS B won the match by 10 wkts and almost 14.2 overs to spare while Mandar Garude was declared ‘Man of the match”

PAB Cricket Academy vs V3 Sports

PAB Cricket Academy after being made to bat first posted a total of 140/9 in 20 overs. Skipper Sanket Jadhav and Keeper Bhavik Thakkar opening the innings gave a flying start putting up 102 runs for the 1st wicket. Sanket scored a 41 ball 49 while Bhavik Thakkar smashed a 47 ball 56 to set the tone for their innings. However, the batsman below them failed to capitalize in a game which was at one point looking good for 170-180 odd runs.

V3 Sports despite opener Japjeet Randhawa’s solid 62 off 57 balls failed to keep up with the run rate as the rest of the batsman played at a strike rate below 100.00. V3 Sports reached 130/4 in 20 overs as PAB Cricket Academy won the match by 10 runs. The bowlers did an excellent job most notably Prajyot Sakpal (0/22 in 4overs), Bhavin Darji (1/22 in 4 overs) and Sultan Khan (0/23 in 4 overs) with the ball.

His opening partner Dinesh Pawar with 28 ball 48 was equally dangerous but the rest of the batsman failed to capitalize as they lost 9 wkts in the next 60 runs getting all out for 151 in 17.5 overs. Sportsmen CC after opting to bat first at the New Era CC Ground were all out for 187/10 in 37.1 overs. Amit Kadam (44) & Ronit Bhosale (47) at the middle order ensured their team reached a somewhat competitive total to defend.

Now it was the duty of the bowlers to defend a modest total of 190 and off-spinner Prakjyot Sakpal came to the rescue restricting New Era CC team to 149 all out. Prajyot came with superb bowling figures of 6/18 in 9 overs not allowing any batsman to settle down as he helped his team win by 38 runs.

Dashing Sports Club after electing to bat first at Sunder CC, Cross Maidan were all out for a low total of 111 runs in 21.4 overs. The pick of the bowlers and the one who impressed one and all was off-spinner Karthik Savla who came up with envious bowling figures of 6/21 in 6.4 overs. Karthik ensured tight line and length and kept on giving breakthroughs not allowing any pairs to stitch partnerships which resulted in Dashing SC getting all out for a low score.

Modern Cricket Club chased it down in 23.5 overs and won the match by 2 wkts. It was a tough fight put by Dashing SC bowlers but eventually Modern CC emerged victorious.

Prabodhan Sports Club after opting to bat first at the LIC Cross Maidan were bundled out for one of the all time lowest totals of 25 runs in 17.2 overs breaking an unwanted record of Shahpur Spencer team who were all out for 26 runs in this season vs Patan CC. Left-arm Spinner Himanshu Sonthalia with 6/17 in 9 over and 5 maidens took everyone by surprise with his excellent line and length. Himanshu has been performing consistenly with the ball this season and he certainly seems to be quite an asset with the ball. All-rounder Rakesh Naik with 3wkts for 2 runs in his spell of 3.2 overs was also equally effective with the ball.

Borivali CC in reply chased down the score in just 5.1 overs and won the match by 8 wkts.
