FCC Smashers won the toss and elected to bat. FCC Smashers (5 for 238), and the Smasher’s bowling attack then  brutally dismantled Maersk’s chase under daylight at Asahi Glass Cricket Ground,Navi Mumbai on 24th March 2019.

Player of the Match Hiren Lakhmani’s league-best knock of 69* off 37 balls, including 9 fours and 2 sixes, resurrected Smashers’ innings from a dire 91 for 4 after 7.3 overs. The 5th wicket partnership doubled the score in a T20 inning. FCC Smashers were four down for 91 runs but Hiren Lakhmani(c) and Ashish added 112 runs for the 5th wicket.

Rahul failed to provide Maersk the platform they needed, and they kept bleeding wickets. Tushar and Sandesh struck twice as the Maersks’ collapsed from 29 for 3 to 80 all out in pursuit of 239. And they fell for the lowest T20 total at the Friendship Trophy in 2019.

“We won the toss and decided to bat. It was a very good batting wicket. But, there was a surprise for us, our star batsman Prasant was out on the 3rd ball of the very first over. And soon after, while we were scoring at a good rate, wickets keep falling. Then it was my turn, the 3rd down. Then we had a huge partnership of 112 runs together. I was very focused, I was hitting the ball in the gaps. Run rate was good and we touched around 190 runs in 15-16 overs. We were looking for a total of 230 on board. My intension was clear, I need to hit big shots, and I was playing for my team without any pressure. And it went well for us.” – Hiren Lakhmani said to Cricketgraph.

“My team, they really expect me to lead from the front. Wherever I play, I do justice to that role. Apart from this,Rising Vision, will be a good challenge for us. Almost every player is playing professionally in this team.” – Hiren added.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Mulund Knockers, led by Vikrams’s gritty 32 runs, were dismissed for paltry 124 as the Rangers C.C bowlers shared the wickets around.Five Mulund players reached double-figures, but unfortunately, in T20 formats this score isn’t big enough. Apart from Vikrant, the other knockers batsman failed to put up a fight against a seemingly average Rangers bowling attack.

Given the low score, everyone had written off Knockers however Rangers had a surprise waiting for them. The tall, consistently accurate pace bowler, Ankit Shah provided the first breakthrough in his first over itself and that set the stage for the rest of the match. Skipper Tausif Khan marshaled his troops well and maintained pressure on the Rangers batting line up. Veteran spinner Prasad & leggie Dilip Shenoy too chipped in with wickets without giving away much runs.

Despite spending considerable time in the middle, Opening batsman Abhishek from Rangers failed to provide Rangers the platform they needed, and they kept bleeding wickets. Having been 52 for 3 in the middle of the 12th over, they ended up being all out in the 19th, with 96 runs on the board. Ankit Shah buttressed his reputation as the  best bowler with 2 for 11 in a T20 game.

“The wicket was good, it was hard. So, we were very disappointed with the score that we had on board. It was a low score as compared to the wicket. And we had a good start, run rate was around 7.54 rpo. After 13 overs, we started going for runs, and we also started losing wickets. We were very clear, it couldn’t be possible to contain runs, for which wickets were important. So, we had placed an attacking field right on the start.  All the catches were taken comfortably, and overall performance was good. That’s how it went.” – Ankit Shah said to Cricketgraph.

Viva Supermarkets opting to bat first at SRT Ground Kandivali notched up a competitive total of 315/6 in 45 overs. After a fantastic start by their openers-Shikhar Thakur (87 off 93) and Akshay Mhapankar (83 off 99) putting up more than 150 runs on the board without losing a wicket, they did suffered some jolts with some quick wickets in between. However, there was a climax left to make the finals interesting as Makarand Patil coming at no.8 lended the finishing touch to his team’s innings scoring a quickfire 84*in mere 26 balls.

Makarand Patil

The pace at which he was going, had he faced a few more deliveries, he would have achieved the feat of fastest Times Hundred ever! What’s more, Makarand’s whirlwind knock included 6sixes in the 2nd last over vs Sachin Mayekar . Overall he smashed 7 sixes in a row out of the 12 biggies he smacked in mere 26 balls becoming the 1st batsman in India at the local level to hit 7 sixes in 7 balls in a professional level match.

Mahindra Logistics in reply were all out for 237 runs chasing 316 thanks to some tight bowling by the Vivasupermarket bowlers. Akshay who has been the backbone of his team’s batting line up picked up 3/30 becoming the pick of the bowlers too while 3 bowlers chipped in with 2 wkts each.

A team which has consistently played well throughout the season- Viva Supermarkets win the Times Shield F Division with dominance.
