Yogesh Nakhye aka Malak is a successful businessman from Dombivali but not many know that he is also a cricket addict! Even though he has many caps to his name, his contribution to the field of cricket is also noticeable. Yogesh recently completed 50yrs and even at this age, he plays cricket at local level. Yogesh has been playing cricket since many years while he is also at the forefront in organizing many chashaks/cricket tournaments in Mumbai. Apart from that, Yogesh fondly known as “Malak” has a generous heart and has helped many needy and aspiring cricketers who have today scaled heights in their careers.
Malak yesterday completed 50 years and on the occasion of his 50th birthday, Malak’s friends and family decided to surprise and acknowledge him in a unique way. Yogesh’s closed ones arranged a birthday bash for him wherein he was gifted a garland made of 50 leather balls and a cricket ground based animated cake to celebrate his half century.

Mumbai: Larsen & Toubro SC held their nerves in the tense closing stages to snatch a thrilling one-run victory against Abhyudaya Bank SC in a Plate Category Group-C match of the 10th Insurance Shield T20 Inter-Office Cricket Tournament, organised by Oriental Insurance under the aegis of MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) and played at the Youths Own Union ground, Cross Maidan.
Sent in to bat first, Larsen & Toubro managed to score 144 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. Opener Kalpesh Yeralkar played a responsible innings and scored 43 runs, while all-rounder Jatin Sethi contributed 34 runs to prop the total. Abhyudaya bowlers Mangesh Shinde (2 for 18), Pradip Kanchan (2 for 26), and Sushil Rane (2 for 34) shared the wickets.
In reply, Abhyudaya Bank batted positively and with Pradip Kanchan batting fluently they looked set to reach the winning target. But after Kanchan’s dismissal for a solid 63 runs, Abhyudaya Bank lost the fight and the match by a very close margin.
In a Group-A match, BEST Arts & SC defeated Canara Bank SC by a huge 82-run margin. Batting first BEST scored 145 for 5 wickets in 20 overs with Devraj Gaikwad 36 runs, Ketan Dhatavkar 28 runs, and Mandar Patil 26 runs contributing to the total. BEST bowlers were a disciplined lot and bowled out Canara Bank for 63 runs in 17.5 overs. Kiran Khanvilkar 4 for 8 runs was the leading wiket-taker while Pravin Pednekar 2 for 9, and Nilesh Karmale 2 for 14 played the supporting roles.
In an Elite Category encounter, hosts Oriental Insurance SC suffered a 77-run defeat at the hands of New India Assurance at the National CC ground, Cross Maidan.

What was the motivation behind conducting this awards function?
A lot of small events happen here and there, Delhi will conduct an event for Delhi Cricketers, Hyderabad will do that for Hyderabad Cricketers, BCCI recently did one awards function at Motera for India U19 Team but no one has executed a grand award function where in promising and young cricketers from Different States can be called up on one stage. Hence, GoChamps decided to conduct this event giving a platform to those young cricketers.
What was the purpose and on what basis were the cricketers selected?
We conducted this awards function under the aegis of Mansi Mistry Foundation. We had invited Mr.Chetan Sharma who is the current senior member of the selection committee and also a former Indian Cricketer. The purpose was to bring these talented cricketers under the eyes of seniors like Chetan Sharma and others because these kids are the future and they need a platform where they are recognized. Now take example of Musheer, he has been consistently performing at all age groups for Mumbai and he is one player to watchout for, similarly alongwith Musheer we selected 11 such promising cricketers.

Can you tell us more about GoChamps Brand?
GoChamps is a sports brand formed under Ascent Group which already owns Flamingo Brand. Flamingo makes post injury supportive products & has been around for more than 2 decades. However, many players shared feedback to make products which they can wear while playing to prevent injuries. That is when we decided to make GoChamps. It’s been 2 years now since we have done a lot of R&D and in 2 years we have made 8 medically certified products.
We all know a shelf life of a Sportsperson is very low, It’s on an average 10 to 12 years, the extra ordinary ones have between 12-20 yrs. In already such small shelf life, there is a fear of getting injured. Once a player gets injured, it’s difficult to recover and I have seen many careers getting over due to injuries including mine! The recovery gets difficult and its time consuming in most cases. Hence, we have decided to introduce injury preventive products which players/athletes can wear it along on the ground to avoid injuries. Mumbai: The 2nd LNCC OMNI Global Invitational Under-22 Invitation Cricket Tournament 2021-2022, organized by Lord Northbrook CC under the aegis of Mumbai Cricket Association, is scheduled to commence from Thursday, April 21.
A total of 20 teams, divided into five groups will be competing for the top honours in this tournament, will be conducted as per the New Model Rules of the Mumbai Cricket Association.
Players born on or after 01 September 1999 and born on or before 31 August 2003 will be eligible to participate in the tournament. However, a maximum four players with lower age, an exemption with a cutoff date of born on or after 01 September 2003 and born on or before 31 August 2006 will be allowed to participate.
All matches will consist of one innings per side, each innings being limited to a maximum of 40 overs. All matches shall be of one day’s scheduled duration. One bowler can bowl maximum 8 overs.

Mumbai: A superb all-round performance by Shoeb Khan, who took 3 wickets for 9 runs and then scored an unbeaten 45 runs was the highlight of Dharamji Morarji CC’s fluent 10-wicket victory against Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in the opening Elite Category Group-B match of the 10th Insurance Shield T20 Inter-Office Cricket Tournament, organised by Oriental Insurance under the aegis of MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) and to be played at the National CC ground, Cross Maidan on Tuesday.
Dharamji Morarji decided to field restricted RBI to 93 for 9 wickets from 20 overs. Shoeb received good support from Prathmesh Belchada who claimed 2 wickets for 17 runs. In reply, Dharamji Morarji easily reached 94 runs without losing a wicket. Openers Shoeb (45 runs, 43-balls, 5x4s) and Lalit Sharma 40 runs (37-balls, 2x4s, 1×6) steered Dharamji to victory.
In the other match, Mumbai Police CC ‘B’ recorded a 4-wicket win against Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL). Mumbai Police bowlers Ajinkya Deshmukh (2 for 12) and Amit Jadhav (2 for 19) restricted HPCL to 107 for 7 wickets in 20 overs. Later, Mumbai Police lost early wickets before number 6 bat Rishi More 31 runs not out and number 7 bat Pradnesh Lad 32 runs helped the policemen snatch a tense win.

Mumbai, April 13, 2022: It has been over two years that the COVID-19 pandemic has constrained social gatherings and restricted many people to a limited area of activity. Most affected by the confinement have been the country’s children and youth, who have found very few avenues, during this time, to carry on a normal life. This created many challenges for them, in terms of physical and mental well-being, sparking many discussions about how to help them reinvigorate themselves and regain the right balance. Many have also been personally impacted by the effects of the pandemic. Bearing this in mind, Thadomal Shahani Centre for Management (TSCFM), a premier management school in India, and part of The Shahani Group of institutions, recently organized The Ignite Cup, a cricket tournament for youth.
Fourteen teams from twelve colleges across Mumbai participated in the tournament, which extended over five days, and was held at the Sambhaji Ground near TSCFM’s Mulund campus. Spectacular performances were witnessed by the players, who turned out with full enthusiasm to embrace the spirit of the game. Team Rising Warriors won the final against Team Powai Panthers. Several players stood out with their scintillating performance, including Khan Mahmood Shabbu and Asaduddin Chaudhry Misbahuddin Safiya, from RJ College, who were adjudged Man of the Series and Best Bowler respectively, and Prasad Satyadeo Yadav, from SM Shetty College, who was declared the Best Batsman.
At the concluding ceremony, Thadomal Shahani Centre for Management also announced a host of scholarships, including a 100% scholarship for youth who have lost either of their parents or the earning member of the family, for enrollment in one of the institute’s vocational programs, namely, PG Diploma in Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI); 4-in-1 Professional Diploma in Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (PDBFSI); Professional Diploma in Digital Marketing; or Certificate in Business English. A 50% scholarship was announced for youth from COVID-affected families for enrollment in one of TSCFM’s postgraduate programs in management, namely the 3-in-1 Management Program (PGDBM) or MBA from UK University (Global MBA).
In addition, all players who participated in The Ignite Cup will be eligible to receive a 60% scholarship for enrollment in one of the vocational programs – PG Diploma in Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI); 4-in-1 Professional Diploma in Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (PDBFSI); Professional Diploma in Digital Marketing; or Certificate in Business English. 10% scholarship for all participants and a 15% scholarship for the tournament winners were also announced for enrollment in the postgraduate programs in management – 3-in-1 Management Program (PGDBM) or MBA from UK University (Global MBA).
Speaking about the tournament, Amit Sharma, COO, The Shahani Group, said, “Over the past two years, we have witnessed many of our own students grapple with the myriad challenges that arose from the pandemic. A multitude of news reports throughout the lockdown has also chronicled the plight of Indian youth as they attempted to keep up with education while also dealing with personal loss, isolation, and physical and mental health issues. A cash prize of INR 21,000 was awarded to The Rising Warriors, along with the Winners’ trophy, while Powai Panthers walked away with INR 11,000 in prize money and the Runners Up trophy. The Man of the Series, Best Bowler, and Best Batsman were also bestowed with trophies.

The match between S.P Group Cricket Academy and Rajhans Sports Academy of RSCA Tri series tournament wherein S.P group won the toss elected to bat first won by 39 runs witnessed some great performances! The winning team had put up a big score of 210 runs in 35 overs at the stake of all their wickets wherein the man of the match Manish Laxman Waghmare had alone contributed 79 runs! The bowling attack of Rajhans Sports Academy was well controlled by Faiz, Pradnesh and Aman to secure 2 wickets each restricting the S.P Group to 210. From the bowlers, spinner Tejas Rajput was the pick of the lot taking 3 wkts with the ball.
The losing opponents could score only 162 runs in 33 overs at the loss of 10 wickets where only Pankaj P could score the highest 48 runs smashing 5 fours and 1 six! The bowling attack of S.P group was equally good as their bowlers Nirbhay Singh, Jayesh and Raj Patil took 2 wickets each climbing to the top!
On April 17, Umelmaan Cricket Club faced off against Sainath Cricket Club at Vasai in the semi-final of the late Dayanand Mhapankar Smruti Chashak. This is an MCA-affiliated cricket tournament.
Batting first, Umelmaan Cricket Club piled up a daunting score of 4-190 in 20 overs, thanks to Chinmay Mohite, who top-scored with a blistering 66 off 45 balls. Mohite, who opened the batting, hammered seven boundaries and two sixes. On the other hand, Mayur Mangela was the pick of the bowlers for Sainath Cricket Club. Mangela scalped 2-39 in three overs.
In reply, Sainath Cricket Club fought hard as they piled up 8-188 in 20 overs. They lost the match by just two runs. In this nail-biting run chase, opening batter Vishal Dhagaonlar starred with the bat. Dhagaonkar muscled 44 runs off 25 balls. For Umelmaan Cricket Club, Kanak Kini and Dhiraj Raut wreaked havoc with the ball. The duo struck with 3-31 and 3-24, respectively.
Chinmay Mohite was the top performer of the match. Mohite steered his team, Umelmaan Cricket Club, to the finals of the late Dayanand Mhapankar Smruti Chashak, an MCA-affiliated cricket tournament.

On April 17, Stylo Cricketers and Madhukar G. Vartak Mem. S. C. clashed against each other during the Kanga League Knockout Tournament. Madhukar G. Vartak Mem. S. C. won the toss and elected to bat first.
Batting first, Madhukar G. Vartak Mem. S. C. were bundled out cheaply for 80 in 24.5 overs, thanks to Brijesh Sahani, who wreaked havoc with the ball. Sahani, a right arm opening medium pace bowler, rattled the opposition with his breathtaking figures of 6-22. He is an attacking speedster who clocks in at speeds of 130-135 kph. On the other hand, Madhukar G. Vartak Mem. S. C. had an off day with the bat as none of the batters looked in shape.
In reply, Stylo Cricketers made light work of the run chase as they achieved the total in 22.1 overs winning the match by six wickets. Ravi Yadav led the run chase from the front with a steady innings of 32. On the other hand, Madhukar G. Vartak Mem. S. C.’s bowlers looked listless as they failed to tame Stylo Cricketers.
Stylo Cricketers’ Brijesh Sahani was the top performer of the match. Sahani is popularly known as “Arrow Boy” since 2015 when a freak accident forced him to take a break from cricket. A teenager then, Sahani was practicing at the VPM Sports Complex in Dahisar when an arrow shot by an archer, who was practising there, hit Sahani in his head. The accident took place on January 16, 2015. Sahani’s teammates took him to the hospital immediately and thankfully the neurosurgeons were successfully able to remove the arrow from his head. It has been indeed incredible that Sahani was able to resume playing in the second innings.
