In an eventful turn, Dadar Parsee Colony defeated the Sporting Union Club in the Sontosh Kumar Ghosh Trophy Organized by Sporting Union Club and Kalyandas Memorial Sports Foundation AJINKYA NAIK, SURAJ SAMAT, SANJAY NAIK, KALYANDAS MEMORIAL SPORTS FOUNDATION. DPC were in a commanding position after the end of their first innings. With 249 on board, DPC were comfortably ahead but an incredible partnership between Ayush Makhwana and Shravan Mhatre brought the Sporting Union Club back in the game. Regardless of their efforts, Anshul Moraje’s incredible spell post lunch negated any margin. He took 6 crucial and quick wickets giving away only 16 runs. With a domino affect, the Sporting Union collapsed and DPC advanced to the next round.

The deadly duo of Rohan Karandikar and Harsh Aghav put up a mammoth partnership of 348 in the Sontosh Kumar Ghosh Trophy Organized by Sporting Union Club and Kalyandas Memorial Sports Foundation AJINKYA NAIK, SURAJ SAMAT, SANJAY NAIK. Batting first, the Vengsarkar CA found themselves 2 down early in the innings but instead of anchoring, the duo of Karandikar and Aghav had other plans. A counterattack was launched by the pair of them propelling the total to a whopping 456 in mere 62.5 overs. To rub salts in the wounds, Payyade were charged with 40 penalty runs for slow over rate. 

The bowling was as impressive as the batting as Payyade were bowled out for just 134. Agastya Bangera scalped 6 while Darsh picked up the remaining 4. With this momentous effort, Dilip Vengsarkar CA qualify for the Semi-Finals.

In the Sontosh Kumar Ghosh Trophy Organized by Sporting Union Club and Kalyandas Memorial Sports Foundation AJINKYA NAIK, SURAJ SAMAT, SANJAY NAIK, KALYANDAS MEMORIAL SPORTS FOUNDATION produced another fine match winning innings from Jaineel Nanda. Police Gymkhana bundled up Shantibhai CC for 159 but were struggling to find their feet as well. A heroic innings from Jaineel Nanda made sure Police Gymkhana got over the line by the skin of their teeth. Contributing to more than 50% of the team’s total runs, Nanda’s innings aided Police Gymkhana qualify to the semi finals.

Gay Cavelliers CC were outplayed by Sportsfield CC in the Sontosh Kumar Ghosh Trophy Organized by Sporting Union Club and Kalyandas Memorial Sports Foundation AJINKYA NAIK, SURAJ SAMAT, SANJAY NAIK, KALYANDAS MEMORIAL SPORTS FOUNDATION . In the quarter finals of the tournament, Sportsfield CC scored a subpar score of 137 but their bowling department brought back the game as the Gay Cavelliers were bowled out for just 75. Shukla’s 6-fer were in vain. The second innings was much better as Hrishikesh Chavan hammered an astonishing 128 for the Sportsfield scoring a total of 280. The second innings for the Gay Cavelleries were a grim encounter as they were half a side down for just 91 runs in an attempt to chase down the mammoth target. Chirag Modak was adjudged as the Man Of The Match as he purchased 9 wickets in the game.

The oldest tournament in Mumbai, Purshottam Shield will begin from the the first weekend of November 2022. Well known for its traditional format of 70-overs per side lasting just a day and a half, this year it seems the Mumbai Cricket Association have taken a different stance. The 106th Purshottam shield will be a one day white ball contest between 28 clubs i.e A & B division clubs of Mumbai.

Previously, there were limited opportunities as the red ball tournament was a knock out competition however this season, there will be 7 groups with 4 teams each. This way every team is guaranteed at least 3 games. With the Vijay Hazare Trophy on the horizon, the Purshottam Shield is expected to act as an audition for gritty Mumbai cricketers who wish to represent the state.

A pivotal first innings for the Vengsarkar Team proved crucial as MIG were bowled out for just 81. An easy target to surpass, Omkar Patankar held one end to score 69 as they took a comfortable lead. An impressive second innings surge was in vain as the writing were already on the walls in the first innings.

Scoring an emphatic 109 not out in the first innings, he put Payyade in a commanding position despite Aarav Malhotra’s 5 wicket haul. Working wonders with the ball too, Vansh purchsed 4 wickets as Gamdevi were bundled up for 208 only.

In the Quarter Finals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali, Mumbai had a close encounter with Saurashtra. The combination of Sairaj Patil, Shreyas Iyer and Shivam Dube aided the former champions across the line. 

Batting first, Saurashtra managed to set a competitive target of 166 in 20 overs. Initially Mumbai were in a good position but Perak Mankad turned the game upside down by hammering 61 in mere 25 deliveries. From Mumbai, the pick of the bowlers being Mohit Avasti bowled an incredible spell picking up 2 wickets with an impressive economy of under 6. Tushar Deshpande purchased 3 wickets as well.  

As the chase began, Mumbai lost 3 wickets under 8 overs. It was Shreyas Iyer (40 off 30) and Sairaj Patil’s (31 off 26) which revived the game for Mumbai. After an astonishing partnership of 63, Patil and Iyer fell in succession. The all-rounder duo of Shivam Dube and Aman Khan scored runs at an elevated strike rate. Khan faced just 6 balls but a quick 14 runs off his bat helped the run chase while Shivam Dube batted till the end staying not out with 25 runs to his name off 13 balls. 

Mumbai chased down the total with just 3 balls in and 2 wickets in hand. They will now face Vidarbha in a Maharashtra Derby in the Semi Finals of SMAT on 3rd November.

Hosted by the Jolly Friends Sports Club, Ageas Federal and Z-Cricket went head to head in a T-20 affair. The former obliterating the latter by a 125 runs.

Batting first, the Ageas Federal scored a whopping 268 for the loss of 3 wickets in just 20 overs. Opener Siddhesh Gavande provided a flying start as he scored 70 in just 39 balls. The star of the match, Vicky Patil entered the ground when the first wicket fell. It took him only 52 balls to hit an impressive 117. With 14 fours and 6 sixes to his name, Patil surely didn’t spare a bowler. 

With the pressure on Z-Cricket since the beginning,  it seems the mammoth target was too much too handle and were restricted to only 143 by the end of their 20 overs losing 7 wickets. 

Vicky was rightly adjudged as Player of the Match for his splendid innings.
