Just three years ago, Yash Chawde was striving in the skating rink. He was doing exceptionally well at state and national tournaments. Owing to an unclear future in skating, his father Shravan decided to put hi into cricket. On Friday, Yash made his father proud by making a grand statement on the cricket field.
Yash (508*; 178b, 81×4, 18×6) slammed an unbeaten 508 runs and took his team to 714 for no loss on Friday. The right-hander Chawde created a record of highest individual score in limited overs format in inter-school cricket tournaments across India.
Courtesy Chawde’s knock, Saraswati Vidyalaya also notched up a record total in 40 overs. Later, they bundled out Siddheshwar Vidyalaya for 9 runs in 5 overs in the Nagpur leg of Mumbai Indians Junior Itner School U-14 cricket tournament at Jhelelal Institute of technology ground.
The 13-year-old Chawde is the second batter after Sri Lanka’s Chirath Selleperuma to score 500+ runs in limited overs cricket. Selleperuma had scored 553 not out in an under-15 interschool tournament in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka, in August 2022, noted statistician Mohandar Menon told TOI.
“According to my records, Chawde is only the 10th batter to make a score of 500+ across all formats and age groups. Out of 10, five batters in the list are Indians. They are Pranav Dhanawade (1009*), Priyanshu Moliya (556*), Prithvi Shaw (546), Dady Havewala (515) and Yash Chawde (508*)” said Menon.
Chawde, who played 178 balls and hit 81 boundaries and 18 sixes, and his partner Tilak Wakode (127 off 97b) were also involved in a record opening wicket partnership. “Yash started playing at the age of 11 after he left skating.” said Yash’s father, Shravan, who is a mid-day meal contractor.
Saraswati Vidyalaya’s current supervisor Ravi Kulkarni had to say this “He is disciplined and has good cricketing acumen. When he stands on the field, his body language makes him stand out. When he bats, it looks like he is “lambey race ka ghoda.” The right hander Chawde has scored more than 1000 runs for Saraswati Vidyalaya this season with two centuries in the U-16 VCA tournament. He is already in VCA camp and has been scoring consistently.

Playing in Mumbai is as competitive as it can get, especially for batsmen. With numerous batsmen scoring heavily, one name stands out firmly in the crowd, Sidhaant Aadhhathrao. With a sublime season so far, Sidhaant has impressed everyone with his batsmanship as he attempts to break into the Mumbai Ranji Trophy Team. So far, the Mumbai Premier League player has come close to his goal by being the Vijay Hazare Probables in 2021.

Aaddhhathrao plays for the New Hind Cricket Club in Matunga which is one of the A division clubs in Mumbai. He has been a consistent performer for the past years but the 2022-23 season has been surreal for the batter. Since the Kanga League, Sidhaant has played batted in 9 out of 10 games, with 576 runs to his name, he averages 64 in A division club games with 2 fifties and 2 tons, one of them being the destructive innings of 193 against PJ Hindu Gymkhana.
The New Hind batter had a decent run in the infamous Times Shield Tournament as well. Playing for Mafatlal in C Division, Sidhaant has bashed 326 runs in 3 games. In his 5 innings, he has went passed the 50 mark thrice, missed out on a century by two runs once and has also scored an unbeaten hundred against Mumbai Division. Aadhhathrao has proved to be an asset for every team he has represented.

My goal is to represent Mumbai in all formats of the game. After this season, I definitely feel that I’m one step closer to it and hope to build on and get even better from here. Currently, I’m enjoying how I’m batting but I’ll keep working hard since it is what I believe a very fierce competition for a spot in the Ranji Team. Hopefully, I’ll reap the rewards soon.
Sidhaanth Aadhhathrao
With almost a 1000 runs in the season already across the top divisions itself, the former Triumph Knights player has definitely established himself as a force to reckon with in the Mumbai circuit. Soon enough, Sidhhaanth sees himself dawning the white jersey with the lion crest on his chest in the near future.
