The third edition of the Ajit Ghosh Memorial Trophy (T20 Women’s Cricket Tournament)
was completed on November 18. Under the aegis of the Mumbai Cricket Association, Sporting Union Club and Kalyandas Memorial Sports Foundation organised this tournament. Sportsfield Cricket Club and Mumbai Police Gymkhana played the finals at the Shivaji Park Gymkhana.
Batting first, Mumbai Police Gymkhana posted 100/7 in 20 overs. Opening batter Kshama Patekar top-scored with 39 off 38, including four boundaries. Patekar put together 66 runs with her opening partner Shrushti Naik (26), to provide an excellent start to her team. However, Samruddhi Rawool of Sportsfield Cricket Club wreaked havoc with the ball as she scalped 19/3 in four overs. The wily off-spinner hit the right straps to yield rich dividends.
In response, Sportsfield Cricket Club made light work of the run chase as they overhauled the target in just 15.3 overs. They won the match by nine wickets. India player Punam Raut led the run chase from the front with a 40-ball 45, including six boundaries. Raut stitched an 88-run opening partnership with Aachal Valanju (44 not out) to take her team to a comfortable position. On the other hand, Sheral Rozario was the lone wicket-taker for Mumbai Police Gymkhana.
MIG CC emerged victorious against Mumbai Police Gymkhana by a huge margin of 155. Mumbai Police won the toss and elected to bowl first. Unfortunately this didn’t favor them as MIG went on to set a total of 358 in 45 overs losing just 3 wickets. Atharva Ankolekar and Kaushal Valsangkar led the charge as they both brought up centuries, Ankolekar scoring 116 as the latter scored 110. Pragnesh Kanpillewar supported them well by contributing 64.
Mumbai Police Gymkhana had limited answers as they were bundled up in the 37th over itself at 203. Shrikant Limbole’s 59 was committed but in vain. MIG now qualify for the Semi Finals of the Purshottam Shield

Parel Sporting convincingly defeated Sind CC in the quarter finals of the Purshottam Shield. After winning the toss, Parel SC elected to set a target. In 45 overs, they managed to score a fighting total of 255 losing 7 wickets in the process. Ashutosh Ghagre scored 75 while his partner contributed 54. Chasing a modest total, Sind CC had contributions all over their batting cards but nothing substantial. Khan Awais Naushad was the highest scorer with just 37. Parel SC bowlers restricted the Sind batsmen and bowled them out for just 162 in 26 overs. Anurag Singh and Vinit Dhulap bowled incredible spells as they picked up 3 wickets each. Ultimately Parel SC won the game by 93 runs.
Victory CC defeated the mighty Parsee Gymkhana in the quarter finals of the Purshottam Shield. Victory CC set a total of 306 in 45 overs. Yash Nahar and Shashwad Jagtap both notched up crucial half centuries together. With a competitive total to defend, Parsee Gymkhana went off with the chase. Nikhil Patil scored 64 as Vaibhav Kalamkar scored 66. But unfortunately their efforts were in vain. Parsee Gymkhana were bowled out for 280 in the 44th over. Victory CC won the game by 26 runs and secured their place in the semi finals.

The Purshottam Shield produced a high voltage quarter finals between Parkophene Cricketers and Dadar Parsee Colony. After winning the toss, DPC elected to chase which in hindsight was not the right decision as Parkophene hammered the DPC bowlers at more than 10 runs per over. Parkophene scored a total of 482 in 45 over losing just 6 wickets. Ex-International player Tanmay Mishra scored an emphatic 159 as his teammate Shreeraj Gharat hammered 144. Apart from this mammoth partnership, Prasad Pawar notched up a quick fire and an unbeaten 88 at the back end of the innings.

Glorious CC entered the field and took over the reins of batting. The team scored 115/8 in 18 overs. Shraddha Shetty scored a tremendous half century up the order. She was well supported by Mithali Mhatre who scored 39 runs taking the team to a competitive total.
As the run chase began, Sporting Club Thane found themselves losing timely wickets. Sporting Club Thane closed the match with a score of 103/6. Mithale Mhatre contributed with the ball as well and picked up 2 wickets alongside Samruddhi Ghare for Glorious CC. Ultimately, Glorious CC successfully defended the target by 12 runs. For her half century, Shraddha Shetty was awarded the Woman of the Match.

Payyade SC elected to bat first and scored a competitive total of 104/8 in 17 overs. Tanisha Gaikwad scored 27 while Samruddhi Ghare and Janhavi Nigade picked up 2 wickets each. With a target to defend, the Payyade SC bowlers didn’t leave any stone unturned. Mahi Thakkar and Akshara Pillai picked up 2 wickets each with an incredible economy. In a sleek manner, Payyade SC emerged victorious over Glorious CC by 13 runs. Mahi Thakkar was rightfully adjudged as the Woman of the Match for her match winning spell.

Vijay Cricket Club elected to bat first ad they entered the field of Shivaji Park Gymkhana. The team scored 96 runs at the loss of 10 wickets in 19.2 overs. Riva Chaudhari from Vijay CC hit half a century with a score of 56 runs but the lone warrior had no support. The Bowlers exhibited exceptional performance as Reshma Naik, Fatima Jaffer, and Samruddhi Rawool picked up 2 wickets each.
In the run chase, Punam Raut scored 41* runs and Shaheen Abdulla scored 38 runs. and helped Sports Field CC claim victory by 8 wickets. The Sports field Cricket Club secured the win at the loss of 2 wickets in 14.5 overs. For her exceptional spell of 2/16 in 4 overs, Fatima Jaffer was awarded as the Woman of the Match.

The 3rd edition of Ajit Ghosh Memorial Trophy Women’s T20 Cricket Tournament under the Aegis of Mumbai Cricket Association organized by Sporting Union Club and Kalyandas Memorial Sports Foundation witnessed rivalry between Dahisar SC and Sportsfield CC at Mahim Juvenile. Dahisar SC elected to bat first but were restricted to a subpar 66. Losing 8 wickets in the process, no batsmen was able to counter the bowling of Sports Field CC. Samruddhi Rawool bowled an exceptional spell of 2/13 which ultimately awarded her the Woman of the Match. Sports Field CCchased down the target at the loss of just 3 wickets in 11.1 overs in the. Kritika Krishnakumar from Sportsfield CC scored 28 winning the game smoothly.

Cricketers from Police Gymkhana elected to bat as they entered the Shivaji Park Gymkhana field. The team made a score of 109/7 in 17 overs. Nidhi Buley scored 35 runs for Police Gymkhana. Riddhi Katecha was the pick of the bowlers forPayyade SC as she picked up 2 wickets. The Payyade SC girls got close to the target but where short by 8 runs in the end. Sheral Rozario and Manasi Bodke picked up 2 wickets each. All rounder Nidhi Buley was honoured as the Woman of the Match.
