As a cricketer you probably play a lot of tournaments and matches but there are only a few tournaments which get etched onto cricketer’s memory. One such tournament which has succeeded in creating a lasting impression is “The Capital Corporate League T20 Cricket League” organized jointly by Fairplay Sports Management & Capital group under the aegis of Mumbai Cricket Association.

This tournament saw participation from leading corporate houses (as many as 108 teams) in Mumbai with the likes of Sony, Toyota, Axis Bank, Deutsche Bank, Tata, Vodafone, Idea etc. This tournament was unique in quite a few ways. For starters, the tournament participation fee was meager INR 5000/- which was a refundable deposit,  INR 2000/- cash prizes for every man of the match, INR 25,000/- for best batsman, bowler and all rounder each, maximum cash prize of INR 250,000/- to winning team from top division.  It also gave an opportunity for corporate teams from lower divisions to play on one of the best venues in Mumbai – BKC, Wankhede Stadium, MIG etc.

They say all good things have to come to an end and it ended with bang! The award ceremony was held at the club house of MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association), Wankhede Stadium. The atmosphere was buzzing with all local cricketers from various backgrounds and it was compared to an ICC award ceremony. In fact few IPL players from the participating team were also present in the award ceremony. There were lights, camera, food and action throughout the function. Speaking to CricketGraph, Mr. Abhijit Ghosh from Fairplay Sports Management who organized the event said “The most important unit in this entire event was the Capital Group which entrusted faith and full support from the beginning. I also would like to thank all committee members of MCA especially Mr. Ravi Sawant, Dr. PV Shetty and Nitin Dalal for allowing us to conduct this tournament smoothly. We saw maximum participation and a super positive feedback from all the teams. Next year we would like to make it even bigger with more teams and a possible live telecast on T.V.”

Here are some players & teams who made it to the top of Capital League!

Mumbai has been a major force in Indian Cricket. No wonder they are the Ranji trophy champs on  40 occasions and also produced many great cricketers making the city proud of its achievements in Cricket. What could be the reasons of this great  achievement  by Mumbai. Amongst many, to play cricket in Mumbai, you do not require a ground. They play on roads and gullies, and in rain on the roads, Mohallas, and in small vacant plot. Yes, of course the space in between 2 buildings which has been one place that has seen many underarm matches played with great zeal and enthusiasm.
From confined to mostly playing underarm cricket in buildings,  few of the societies have gone further by utilising the huge space available not just to play but to gather and bond together as a unit.
One such society (Whispering Palms) in Kandivali, with 5 buildings, 17 wings, 1500 flats and 6000 residents have made full use of their space. They have taken cricket to new heights at societies and have shown you can make the game large. Thus took the birth of YPL (Yuva Premier league) last year and teams being formed on auction basis.
While the success of last year was a stepping stone, this year the tournament is expected to be more entertaining with 8  teams to be formed. The owners are allowed to keep 2 players of their choice and the rest to be bided(Total of 140 players registered as of now).
To be Played in day and night with tennis ball, colourful outfit, music and fanfare, YPL 2015 would be a 2 day affair on April 18th and 19th. The best part about this event is the funds raised to be utilized for social causes.
If a tournament has to be more successful, it has to be the presence of sponsors. Well, Soy Milk has arrived on the scene and will giving out  kookaburra balls signed by Former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee to every man of the match.
Also what this cricket event has done is to brought  the entire Whispering Palms under one roof. Yes something missing in many of the societies especially in this modern era and times where in many of them in many societies not even knowing much about their other members. Truly a great initiative by Mr.Paresh Shetty and his team who have set the ball rolling. We too are waiting for the action to begin wherein nails will be bitten and fingers kept crossed by many. Awaiting for April 18th 2015.

KSG superiors lived upto their reputation this time too while chasing a total of 160. They lost only 1 wicket in the long chase, courtesy Gaurang Parkeh.  gaurang parekh

They say form is temporary and class is permanent. Same can be said of Gaurang Parekh from KSG superiors team in the ongoing Kapole T20 cricket tournament. He seemed to be in some sort of hurry right from the start hitting 10 sixes and 8 Fours. Total of 160 was chased in only 12.3 overs. Had KSG superiors batters batted for the entire 20 overs, they could have easily scored in excess of 250 runs!

Scoring a century while chasing is no ordinary feat but doing that at a strike rate of 240 is PHENOMENAL. Gaurang P surely seems to be a man to watch out for in Kapole T20. He was unanimously nominated as Gaurang Parekh Man of the Match for the second time in this tournament .

Come Sunday and one finds ways and means of spending time and enjoying the day. On that day and away from office, one gives time to their families and near and dear ones to share their smiles and happiness. But at times as an individual spending time on a cricket ground and enjoying a game of cricket  adds flavour to life. Nokia MoM smashtress

Two Corporate teams (Nokia and NFC)met on a cricket field at the 4th Corporate Cricket league,March 15th, 2015,at New Delhi for a T20 game and to test their cricketing skills.

Nokia won the toss and to make use of the conditions in terms of moisture on the pitch decided to bowl first. NFC were off to a very positive start with the top 3 batsman Harsh 27 runs (2 boundaries), Babbal with 31 with (4 boundaries) and Manish top scoring with 42 runs (3 boundaries and 1 six). They often say good start is the most important factor for any side posing a good total. Well NFC had a good start but Abhishek of Nokia had other ideas. He picked up wickets at regular intervals with a 3 wickets for 19 runs. Five of NFC batsman were run out. NFC innings folded at 151 in their allotted 20 overs with extras contributing second best with 32. A competitive total – one must say!Nokia logo

Nokia too had their problems but at their top order and with half side down with the score reading at 67, with Harsh and Devender doing the damage for NFC by picking 2 wickets each. In 20 overs version of the game, one good partnership puts things on track and Puneet 54 N.O (4 fours and one six) and Ravi 31 (4 fours) did the same. They put on 82 for the sixth wicket ( a huge one) and took the game away from NFC. Boundaries at regular intervals and rotation of the strike by Puneet and Harsh gave NFC bowlers no chance of coming back in the game and in the end Nokia emerged winners by 4 wickets. Puneet was named the Man of the Match.  smashtress logo

Certainly Team Nokia had reasons to smile and share their cricketing moments of the day with their families when they went back home. I am sure they might have celebrated the day too.
