They generally are seated in a chair with a table in front of them. They are the one’s who are often asked about the facts and figures of the match. They hold the key in the proceedings and results of a match. They keep track of what’s happening on the ground during a match. They are the scorers where all eyes are glued towards them in a tense situation of a match.
Most of the scorers one comes across are from the younger generation. One such scorer who made his debut as scorer is Vicky Kenia way back in 2005. Most of the beginning begins with inspiration. Vicky too got inspired from his friend Mayur Dholakia who was a scorer and its 10 years he is still in this profession. Till date he has covered more than 100 matches in Mumbai. While speaking to Vicky who said its not easy as one thinks. A good scorer needs immense concentration, should be fast in calculations, and should have co-ordinating abilities. A tense match or situation brings puts to test and brings out the best in any scorer. Vicky has covered many of the corporate and community matches in Mumbai.
The most difficult situation for any scorer is when one and all surround his table and keep on asking about the numbers. This is where a scorer might make mistake. But this is where one must learn and have the ability to handle it. One of the key factors for being a good scorer is you need to be good in multitasking right from co-ordinating with Umpires, players, commentators and organisers. Certainly he has the ability and we wish him all the best !

Mr Jwala Singh, the founder of Jwala Foundation who runs Mumbai Cricket Academy once happened to be at Azad Maidan. While taking a stroll with his friend he, happened to visit one of the nets where he noticed a little boy practising. Quiet impressed as to the way he batted, Jwala Singh took interest in him and wanted to check about more about him. This is where talent met opportunity.

He is Yashasvi Jaiswal who just came to meet his uncle in Mumbai along with his parents 3 years back. While his parents went back, Yashasvi started to live in a tent in Azad maidan as he did not have accommodation facility in Mumbai. Mr. Jwala Singh met his father and assured of Yashasvi’s needs would be taken care, it was no looking back for the youngster. He began his career playing for Anjuman Islam Urdu school scoring 47 runs and took 5 wickets with his leg spin.
The flood gates were opened. He grew from strength to strength and in his second match itself scored 319 Not out and took 13 wickets against Raja Shivaji Vidyalaya in Giles shield. This feat has been recorded at Limca Books of Record and till today nobody has achieved this feat.
The third match proved that his earlier achievement was not a one time act. He scored 202 and took 12 wickets. Yes, Yashasvi had arrived.
Playing for Vero Cup scored 168 runs during selection of Mumbai under 14. He was eager to enter the bigger arena. While playing his first match at senior level at No 8 he scored 39 runs and took 1 wicket playing against well known players. His second match saw him score 22 runs and taking 3 wickets where he showed no doubts and fear.
This year Playing at Worli cup he has scored 3 consecutive centuries and has a haul of 9 wickets in 4 matches.
In Harris shield this year he has performances of 33 runs and 5 wickets in first match, 68 runs and 10 wickets in 2nd match, 155 NO and 4 wickets in third match, while in semi finals its 186 runs. In Giles shield he has scored century in all 5 matches which is a record.
The most notable feature of his achievements is he achieves big once he gets in and is hungry to perform every time he walks on the ground. His desire to learn and to excel is what makes him as one of the best talents. His mentor and coach Mr.Jwala Singh did mentioned that Yashasvi wants to work hard for the next 10 years and for him to establish at the bigger level. One step at a time is what he plans to move forward with. Talent alone is not enough, its your desire to succeed and to work towards it is what one needs to make it big. Yashasvi has it all. He was also recently felicitated by Sports Minister of Maharashtra – Mr. Vinod Tawade.

We wish all the teams best of luck for these matches!!!
They say when you are not playing the game any more, one best thing you may do is to give it to others of what you know.
Subhash Sarmalkar cricket Academy started in April 2010 by Mr. Sarmalkar at M.E.T sports ground, Bandra, with the purpose of pushing all aspects of cricket who were and are part of the Academy.
Speaking to Mr . Sarmalkar, as young as 6 year old to youngest at 48 are learning more about the game in his academy. Yes a 48 year cricketer is as young as any other cricketer where the game has never put age as an barrier.
Today the academy has about 70 budding and upcoming talents who one day would like to make it big. These are school & college students and others.
Talking about making it big, a proud Mr. Sarmalkar mentioned how Ms. Jemima Rodrigues made it to the Indian, West Zone and Mumbai team. She has remained unbeaten in most of her knocks.
Another talent who went to the next level was Manas Raikar who played for Mumbai Under 14 and Under 16.
Truly Mr. Sarmalkar’s vast Kanga league experience playing in A division for 10 years and his stints with University is paying dividends. We wish him and his academy all the best for the future.
It’s often said that there is a certain age limit to do anything. As you progress in life, you leave behind an opportunity to do something, which, in perception at least, could have been done at that point in time and not later. Consider sports. In older times, sportsmen, especially cricketers used to play till the age of around 50. The international record is held by W Rhodes of England who played his last test match at an age of 52 years. Surprised? Going by the record books, most of the cricketers of his generation played till a similar age. But the same number for current generation of cricketers is dropping to 40 or even mid-30s. Once a person enters his 30s, there is a psychological age factor that blocks him to play professionally, let alone international cricket, especially when a large number of youngsters are there to take his spot.
The above age factor does not bother Mr. Bhadresh Gandhi, President – Friends Premiere League. In his words, “Cricket is a game. If someone is passionate about it, he should play it. There is no age limit for reading and studying. Same goes with cricket. I am surprised cricketers retire before they turn 40. They continuously play for 15-20 years and then they hang their boots forever. According to me, a person passionate for cricket should play till the day he feels he is fit. Age is just a number. Anyone who has left cricket at a younger age due to some reason can and should play at a later age by giving some time to his body and he will be fit to play and pursue his passion.”

Standing by his words, Mr. Gandhi and his friends started Friends Premier League (FPL)in 2009, following the lines of Indian Premiere League (IPL). But unlike the mega event, FPL is not a profit making business. The motive is to provide those people an opportunity to play cricket on professional lines, which could not play it earlier in their lives. This also helps people to stay fit and healthy as they prepare themselves for a 4-5 months long weekend tournament.
It all began in 2009-10, when the first edition was organized with 6 participating teams. It started in November’09 and ended in March ’10. Since then, it is being organized every year, with participating teams increased to 8 in 2nd edition and 10 in 4th edition onward. It recently concluded the 6th edition in March 2015.
As a tradition, a yearly get-together takes place soon after the final match of the tournament, where all teams gather to celebrate and awards are given. Generally, trophies for best batsman, best bowler and top 5 teams are distributed. It is a celebration to honor everyone who is a part of FPL. As a rule, no cash prizes are awarded to anyone. Apart from the sponsorship, the games are organized on an equal sharing basis from all teams.
The organizers of FPL are optimistic about its future. With plans to raise more sponsorship, the number of teams may be increased to 12 in the next edition. Day-Night matches do not seem a distant possibility now. The focus of the league remains to promote sportsman spirit and harmony among the playing members and giving chance to people in the age group of 35-50 to come and play.
Friends Premiere League is an attempt to provide a platform to all the passionate people who believe that the game should be played with harmony, with friendliness and team spirit. Winning is important, but not at the cost of spirit of the game.

They arrived, they played, they dominated, they won and they put their name on the Dreamz Corporate Trophy for elite group at Sachivalaya. It was a day where they could do nothing wrong. Yes, such was Yes Bank dominance at the plate division final.
Good players save their best for the best. Rahul Jain (61 runs) and Ritesh Singh (73 runs) did the same for the finals against Hindustan Uniliver Limited. They met at the 22 yards at the fall of 1st wicket and dictated terms on HUL Bowlers. HUL went clueless as to when they would get the second wicket.Rahul and Ritesh put on 131 runs and to put the issue almost out of reach for HUL. But Alok, Sachin, Prashant and Prasad shared a wicket each to stop Yes Bank at 165 in 20 overs. A good total but not huge.
It was now the turn of Yes Bank bowlers to rub it in. While Siddesh and Harshal took 2 wickets reach, Rajat, Rahul, Vaibhav and Ashish shared 1 each to make a wicket feast for Yes bank. Perfect Bowling unit to make their team proud.

Rajesh 35 runs for Hindustan Uniliver was the only saving grace for his team as his knock went in vain . HUL innings folded at 81 runs. Yes Bank won by 84 runs.
Ritesh’s knock was enough for him to earn the Man of the Match of Yes Bank but entire unit from Yes Bank deserves a pat on their shoulders.
Yes bank team will share the fond memories of the match with their colleagues in office, HUL too will take a few positives and come back strongly next year.

For a while, I wondered as to what and how to analyse about this epic battle. The Semi Final clash between Star India and Rave Technology playing at Masters Cup edition 4 at Vengsarkar academy was a match with both sides not willing to see their names on the sorry side. Yes, it turned to be a cliffhanger onMarch 28th, 2015.
Rave Technology chose to bat after winning the toss and posted 165 in 20 overs. Mayur 41 (6 boundaries & 1 six),Manish’s 26 with 2 sixes, Vikrant 24 NO with 2 sixes and Niranjan 16 NO with a six and four ensured their side had enough on the board. Star India bowlers tried their best and R. Naik was the pick with 2 wickets and Manish kumar and Vikrant Kini shared a wicket each.
Rave Technology bowlers gave their team a upper hand in their bowling show and at one stage Star India were 61 for 4. Rave Technology had their nose ahead at this stage. But Star India middle order rose to the occasion. They say good players are the ones who do not take pressure, they give pressure. Thats what Rajesh Naik did with his knock of 42 NO with 3 boundaries & 1 six.and along with R. Dhotre (37 runs) with 2 boundaries put on 67 runs for the 6th wicket. With B. Singh contributing 23 with 3 hits to the fence, Rave Technology bowlers were not the ones who were going to give up . vikrant with 2 wickets and 1 each by Abhishek, Niranjan, and kunal ensured Star India were not allowed to cross the line. Both teams were hanging at 165. It was heart stopping stuff.

It went to the bowl outs to decide the winner. And Star Tv held on to their nerves to win in the bowl out by 2 against Rave technologies at 1.
While one can understand what both teams had gone through the day, my hands are still trembling.Salute both the teams.

In the finals of Dreamz Trophy T-20, Shoppers Stop won the toss and elected to bat first against Godrej. It seemed like a bad decision since Shoppers Stop batters lost wickets at regular intervals and managing a paltry of 89 runs for 10 wickets in 17.1 overs.
Godrej bowlers especially Dhawal bowled his heart out and finished with 4 overs 22 runs and 3 wickets. Mohit too was exceptional and finished with 4 overs 14 runs and 3 wickets. Akshay and Shreyansh picked up two wickets each. It was the incredible effort by Godrej bowlers to restrict the opposition to such a low total in the all important final match.
It seemed like an easy target to chase for Godrej batsmen. Mohit Mishra was the top scorer with 26 runs in 25 balls. Dhawal scored 21 off 10 balls. Godrej chased the target in 13.2 overs with 7 wickets in hand.
Man of the match was Dhawal Pawaskar for picking up 3 wickets and scoring runs.

Only the best cricket teams lock horns in the finals and this was set to be one epic battle between two professional outfits. It was the grand finale of Milan Corporate Cup between Reliance Ltd and Total Securities at Cross Madian on 28th March 2015. Total Securities won the toss and without hesitation decided to bat first. It is usually seen that teams with a strong batting side prefer to bat first in such finals. And it seemed like a wise decision.
Total securities opening batsmen Deven Joshi and Jayesh Thakkar looked in complete command of their innings, respecting good balls and severely punishing loose deliveries. Total securities lost their first wicket at 61, wherein Jayesh was caught and bowled by Chetan Suvarana. Deven Joshi continued with this aggressive batting on the other end hitting fours and sixes at regular intervals. At one stage Total securities were poised for a bigger target however Reliance restricted it to 172. Deven Joshi looked in tremendous form scoring 93 off only in 47 balls. He hit 11 fours and 4 sixes.
Reliance batting side never seemed in control and this could have been because of the big target and pressure of chasing such big targets always gets to the nerves of any batting line up. Reliance kept loosing wickets at a regular intervals with most of the batsmen failing to reach double digits. Opener bowler Jay Sachdev bowled an immaculate line and length to pick up 4 wickets in his 4 overs. In the end Reliance got out for 98 runs loosing by a huge margin of 74 runs. Anthony Nadar and Sanmesh Waghmare picked up 2 wickets each.
