In the semifinal of Milan Corporate Tournament Plate Division, Nomura captain Kanaiya Patel won the toss and opted to field first. The decision proved to be correct till the time his team was in the field. But all the effort in the field was nullified by some disappointing batting performance as the team failed to chase 134 which by no means is a difficult score to chase in the shortest format of the game.
RMPL opener Abdul Khan struck a sparkling 46 ball 53 with supporting hands from Roger Mackwan’s 16 (12 balls, 2×4) and Srinath Dange’s 20 (19 balls, 1×4) as the team scored 134 runs at the end of 20 overs. Nomura’s Anshul Garg delivered an inspired spell in which he took 3 wicket giving away just 10 runs in his quota of 4 overs. Prateek and Abrez shared a wicket each.
With a good day in the field, Nomura would have fancied their chances of chasing a
modest total. But a combined bowling effort from RMPL and slow batting from their batsmen prevented them from winning a match that was theirs to win. Anshul Garg top scored with 35 as rest of the batting fell like nine pins and Nomura ran out of overs and batsmen to cross the line. As many as 7 bowlers were used by RMPL and 6 of them managed a wicket at least. How’s that for teamwork! Skipper Roger and Dinesh More managed a couple of wicket each.
With this, RMPL are through to the finals of the tournament while Nomura’s journey ends here. Abdul R. Khan bagged the man of the match for his excellent innings.
Brief Scores: RMPL: 134 all out in 20 overs (Khan 53, Dange 20, Garg 3/10)
Nomura: 96/8 in 20 overs (Garg 35, Roger 2/23, More 2/13)

Two of the strongest teams of the tournament were up against each other. Both were ousted in semi-final. Both had already qualified for the groups for the next edition. These two teams belonged to the institutions where cricket is not just a game. It’s a matter of pride. There were a lot of emotions as one of the captains was playing his last Inter College match.
So it would be an appropriate assumption that everything was at stake, despite the match not being the final. So was the attitude and body language of each and every player involved. To win was not a choice, it was the only option. To Khalsa, it was their shocking semi-final defeat in the hands of Shradhanand a couple of days back. To SGGSCC, it was to give a perfect farewell to their inspiring captain TusharKhattar. Unfortunately, one had to be foregone at the expense of other.
SGGSCC captain won the toss for the third time in a row and decided to put runs on the board. He was about to ponder over his decision in the very first over itself when opener Aprameya was out for a duck. But Sameer Rajput and ParthMadaan not only steadied the ship for SGGSCC but were unseparated for next 30 overs for a whopping 147 run stand. An injury to Sameer forced captain Tushar to enter the ground for his last Inter College innings. It did not last for long as Khalsa fast bowler Anuj broke his middle stump when he was on 3. Parth top scored with 84 as the innings eventually ended at 185 for the loss of 5 wickets in their quota of 35 overs. Anuj and Vikas shared 2 wickets each on a flat batting track.

Considering the strong top order of Khalsa, SGGSCC could not take a sigh of relief even after scoring a competitive total. But AkshitGoel gave them that relief by snapping opener Aditya leg before on the second ball of the innings. But after that it was Khalsa all over. They had partnerships for every wicket with the highest being 66 for third wicket between opener Hiten and Mohit. Hiten was particularly brutal in his scintillating knock of 75 from just 53 balls with 9 fours and a solitary six. He virtually took the game away from SGGSCC by maintaining a run rate of more than 6 throughout the innings. Vikas and Manpreet completed the formalities with a partnership of 52 in just above 6 overs. Vasu Goel picked 2 wickets while Tushar and Akshit shared a wicket each.
Overall it was a good game of cricket with both teams playing in harmony. SGGSCC skipper TusharKhattar could not get a deserved farewell win but he will always be remembered as a great captain and motivator for his team. His teammates giving him a guard of honor was the least they could have done for him on his last match.

It was a day of Hindustan Times Media at Central Maidan, Thane on 9th April’2015 to clutch the victory against Sankalpan Architect by 7 runs in the Final Match of “Thane Vaibhav Summer Inter Office “C” Division Cricket Tournament – 2015”. The final of “C” Division was played between Hindustan Times Media (H.T.) and Sankalpan Architect (S.A.).
S.A. elected to Field first after winning the toss and bowled out H.T. at 152 runs in 26 overs. H.T. expected to have a good start like in their previous games, but Samrat Nakhwa of S.A. gave a breakthrough for his team on the 3rd ball of the innings by taking wicket of opener Siddhant P. Conversely, other opener of H.T. Rohan Pawar, played a rock-hard innings with Abhijit Madhavi. They gave a quick good start for H.T. of 66 runs in just 8.2 overs. Rohan who is recognized as a Star Emerging Player smashed a half century (52 runs) in 55 balls in which he punched 8 fours and 1 massive Six! Ronit R. from S.A. broke this partnership in 9th over and then the batting of H.T. collapsed at 152 runs with the fall of all wickets in 26 Over. H.T. could manage the target of 152 with the help of 34 run partnership of 10th wicket between Kavaldeep Singh (37 runs in 45 balls – 2×4 & 3×6) and Manohar G. The complete credit of restricting H.T. to 152 runs; goes to Spin bowling attack of S.A., Ronit R. and Eashan D. Ronit’s spell in the match ended with 7 overs in which he took 4 wickets by giving 31 runs and Eashan’s spell too ended with 7 overs in which he conceded 1 maiden and took 4 wickets by giving just 30 runs and taking a big wicket of Rohan P. Out of 10, 5 batsmen of H.T. could not open their account of score. The credit goes to a sincere bowling attack of S.A!
(Rohan P. of H.T. who scored 52 Runs in 55 balls – 8×4 + 1×6)
While chasing a target of 153, S.A. lost the 1st wicket at 26, after which they could not survive in front of the bowling attack of H.T. H.T. bowlers gave a good fight back and bowled out S.A. to 145. Kavaldeep Singh (Right Arm Medium Pace) who bowled extremely tight line took 4 wickets in 7 overs by giving only 19 runs in which he bowled 2 maiden overs. Kavaldeep was equally supported by Abhijit Madhavi (3.4-0-20-2) & Sagar Khatri (7-0-24-3). The turning point for H.T. was the catch of Abhijit A. (scored 33 runs) taken by Rohan P. at Long On. When Abhijit got out, S.A. was in need of 30 runs with 3 wkts. in hand and 10 overs left. It was completely a team effort by H.T. to win this final!!!!
The MCA registered “C” division tournament was played between 8 teams with Knock Out Stages. The all matches (35 overs each) were played at Central Maidan, Thane. Presently the matches of “A” & “B” divisions are in progress and the prize distribution ceremony for all 3 divisions is expected to be held together on 29th April’2015.

Knockouts.Groups – Semi-final. Both teams had reached this far after months of effort, crushing and knocking out their opponents. It was a test of grit. It was a test of character. Everybody knew their game. But this game’s outcome would decide who has an upper hand. Skill was never a problem. Temperament was. That’s where Aryabhatta boys edged out SGGSCC in an all-important encounter of DU Inter College.
To say it was a bowler’s show would not be an overstatement. Both teams were well balanced with excellent batting lineups and superb fielders. But what stood out as the difference between the two was their bowling. That being said, surprisingly enough the losing team registered two 5 wicket hauls in the same innings that ended in only 28.3 overs. That tells us the dominance of ball over the bat throughout the match
SGGSCC skipper Tushar won the toss and sent his opponents to bat first. Aryabhatta openers provided an excellent start to the innings with Himanshu Sharma scoring a whirlwind 31 from only 16 balls, clearing the fence thrice in the process. His partner Nitish top scored with 42 off 54 balls. But after both the openers lost their wickets, Aryabhatta kept losing wickets at regular intervals and folded for just 140 inside 29 overs. SGGSCC bowlers Krishna and Tushar shared the honors in bowling, capturing 5 wickets each.
Even though SGGSCC bowled out Aryabhatta, 140 were never going to be an easy chase against a strong bowling unit of Aryabhatta. It was the same Aryabhatta team that shot SSCBS out for 76 runs earlier in the tournament. This time they went a step ahead on the big occasion. Only three of SGGSCC batsmen were able to cross double digits as the innings folded for paltry 63 in 20 overs. ParthMadaan top scored with 20. It was a combined bowling effort with Yogesh and Shivank sharing 3 wickets each.
On one hand, its curtains for SGGSCC who played splendidly during the whole tournament, Aryabhatta have everything to play for in the grand finale scheduled later in the week.

Every budding cricketer hopes to make it big. Especially so when they are recognised of their talent and performances, Here’s Mr. Jwala Singh who came to Mumbai in 1995 to make a name for himself and to make it big. Speaking to Jwala Singh who said one needs the burning desire and the will to be there. He did well with his school Shardashram and also with Mumbai Junior team. Was also a Part of India Under 17 School team and also had a stint with Tripura Under 22 team. He gave it all for cricket but moving further remained a dream for him. Also gave a try at MRF Pace foundation with a injured shoulder and despite injury gave his best with will power.

Winning toss is the first important and crucial thing in a match although its not in one’s control. But when the captain calls it right he and his team has to justify the decision. Total Securities bowlers had a merry time and made first use of the wicket in their match against Indusind Bank on 4th April, 2015 at Government Law and all the 6 bowlers had Indusind bank batsmen on the backfoot right from the word go. Bipin More’s 26 runs and Vishal Tondwalkar’s 19 NO was absolutely not enough to stop an rampaging Total Securities Bowlers. Chetan’s three wickets and two each by Bhavik, Sachin and one by Antony ensured that Total Securities would not be chasing a huge target. Indusind Bank were stopped at 102 runs.
Jayesh Thakker 42 Not out and Antony Nadar’s unbeaten 26 made lightwork of Indusind’s attack with the only exceptional bowling spell by Sushant for his two wickets. Yogesh managed to get one. Total Securities reached the target in 16.2 overs.
Jayesh’s knock made him the Man of the Match, but the match belonged to the bowlers of Total Securities. While most of the teams do generally have good batsman, its delightful and pleasing to have a complete bowling unit. Certainly Total Securities have got a balanced side and for the shorter version of the game if you have good bowlers who can make it count, its an icing on the cake. Congratulations Total Securities!

In what was a virtual knockout match, SGGSCC held their nerves and defeated Sri Venkateswara College by 8 runs to enter the semi-finals of DU Inter College tournament. With this win, they also confirmed a berth in the group stage of the next edition.
SGGSCC captain Tushar Khattar won the toss and opted to bat first. It turned out to be a nightmarish decision early in the innings as SVC bowlers had half their team back in the hut with only 15 runs on the board in the fourth over. The chief destructor was Vikas Yadav who claimed 4 of the first 5 wickets.
Middle order batsmen Dhruv Gola &NeelashMungali then stitched a partnership of 54 runs which provided a much needed stability to the innings. Some late fireworks from Vasu Goel ensured that SGGSCC had a decent total to defend. The innings eventually ended for 166 runs inside 34 overs. Dhruv top scored with 36. Neelash and Vikas chipped in with handy 27 and 25* respectively.
SVC batsmen did not apply themselves early on and were 3 down with only 18 on the board. Anmol Patial played a splendid innings of 44 and KaranvirGogia remained not out on 28 but that was not enough to sail them through to the semi-finals. SGGSCC bowlers bowled superbly and kept the SVC batsmen in control. NeeleshMungali dried up the runs by giving away only 24 runs in his 9 overs and scalping 2 wickets.

Taking no credit away from the SGGSCC bowlers, SVC had a great chance to overhaul the target but they made a simple target difficult by letting the asking rate jump at a time when acceleration was required. Losing wickets at regular intervals didn’t help either. The most bizarre of all was the run out of Sartaj Singh when things were under control.
In the last ball of 34th over, there was a bit of drama as SVC batsman KaranvirGogia pulled a full toss from Neelesh for a boundary but the waist high no ball was not called by the square leg umpire. SVC players asked for it but the umpire did not reverse his decision.
With this loss, it’s the end of the journey for Sri Venkateswara College in this edition but SGGSCC have their task cut out as their next match is definitely going to be difficult than this one. One mistake and it could be curtains for them as well.

The game of cricket is not just about the players. There are couple of men on the ground who control proceedings, make decisions, and ensure that the proceedings are smooth.
It wont be wrong to say they are the judges on the ground. Without the umpires its not possible to play a cricket match.
If you have played the game and want to give it back to the game, one such way is to officiate. So did Mr. Nawdeep Mishra who began his umpiring career way back in the year 2000. 15 years and on, he is still going strong on his job. Till date he has officiated in over 450 matches in India and abroad.
He is a MCA panel umpire and officiates in corporate or community matches also ONLY if there are NO MCA matches.
He recently spent 6 months in Nairobi, Kenya on a office assignment and also officiated in Super leagues over there. Also was an umpire in the U-19 Kenya V/s. Pakistan match there. Also officiated at matches in Bahrain, Oman and Qatar in Senior division matches.
He drew his inspiration from his mentors and senior umpires Mr. Ganesh Iyer and Mr. M.R.Singh, and since Mr. Mishra was familiar with the laws of the game ,that helped him a lot. One needs to focus and concentrate 100% which is a huge challenge no matter how senior you become as an umpire. You need to be well versed with the 42 laws of cricket and in order to do this, Mr. Mishra suggests that upcoming umpires should read and understand laws very well for them to become a good umpire.
Mr. Mishra’s experience is there for the taking. For all those who want to make a mark in umpiring, can follow his footsteps. He has shown us the way.
