The T20 KNIGHTS organized by ONEWORLD OF SPORTS is the first and only corporate cricket tournament played under lights giving the teams a chance to play T20 matches in a setting generally seen only on TV and in international quality grounds. The 1st edition of the tournament kicked off in late February 2015 with 6 teams competing for a chance to be crowned the KNIGHTS – Capital First, Johnson & Johnson, Motilal Oswal, Rave Technologies, IDFC & Richmond Group. After 6 weeks of non-stop action, J&J and Motilal Oswal had managed to setup a mouth watering final which everyone hoped would produce a match worthy of it’s stature.
And no one who was at the ground yesterday, left disappointed – though one must say that for a brief half an hour preceding the scheduled time, the ground had been soaked in sudden downpour which had caught all of Mumbai unawares and unprepared. Fortunately due to some quick work by the ground staff who pulled out pitch covers, not much damage was done once the showers receded – the umpires duly made a pitch inspection and due to a 30 minute delay, decided to reduce the match to a 17 over affair.
J&J who had been put into bat might have felt hard done by the rain gods and Motilal could not be blamed if they sang the paeans of mother nature – a decent wicket aided by some moisture would surely give the bowlers an edge under the lights. However such things are generally the stuff that sports commentators and analysts thrive on – cricketers who have to face the music on the field often sing to a different tune. On this day, Abhishek Angane from J&J stepped up to the plate to face the first delivery and make this match all his own. For 15 overs from that delivery, one was witness to the most brutal display of power batting – scoringat a pace which would put even Sehwag to shame, Abhishek plundered 11 boundaries and 8 sixes – scoring 113 runs off 51 deliveries – conceding just 10 dot balls. In the shadow of such power hitting the rest of the J&J batting simply had to just stand on one side and watch – Motilal at one stage actually captured 3 wickets 16 balls – but No.5 Sheikh stabilized the loose end allowing Abhishek free rein. The score at the end of regulation time was 185/4 and Motilal Oswal facing a massive task to try and win this title.
Motilal immediately found themselves on the backfoot as that man again – Abhishek Angane – not satisfied with his batting efforts – ran in to deliver the 2ndover and snapped up Khaire and Uttekar off successive deliveries to leave Motilal re-assessing all plans with score reading 16/2. Deepak and Jinny however dropped anchor and gradually re-built the innings from there to bring the target under 100 at the halfway stage (score 88/3 in 9 overs). However trying to force the pace, Jinny stepped out off the last ball before drinks and was stumped by Sanket – a crucial wicket at the most inopportune moment for Motilal. 98 runs of 8 overs with 7 wickets in hand and a betting person would be giving long odds to Motilal but once again they found a new hero in Mandar Poipkar, a blitzkrieg effort of 49 off just 23 deliveries and suddenly the equation was not so improbable after all. The J&J fielders were testy and nervous – nothing exemplified this more than a difficult catch at long on which the fielder not only misjudged but also sent the ball soaring over the ropes for a 6. As the scores galloped the noise from the Motilal camp became a cacophony but there was still one final twist left to the match. Just when the match seemed to be slipping from J&J’s grasp they managed to strike hard and fast – M Salvi bowled a fullish one which Deepak misjudged and was bowled with the score on 128. Followed by 2 quick wickets in the 14th over of Amit Dassani the captain and Darshit Zaveri (Motilal’s first match centurion) out for a duck and 3rdwicket of Vishal Shelar in the 15th over and Motilal was surely looking down the barrel with score at 143/7 in the 15th over and 43 runs to get in 14 deliveries. Mandar made a valiant effort including 3 huge sixes which offered some hope but a required rate of 3 runs per delivery was always going to be too much. Motilal eventually closed at 166/8 in 17 overs having made a valiant effort but always losing wickets at crucial moments and always looking at a mountain never a hill.
J&J were crowned the first KNIGHTS of the 2014-15 season while Motilal promised to be back the next time.
The man of the finals was an easy decision – Abhishek Angane (J&J) 113(51b) and 2/33.
Batsman of the Tournament – Mandar Poipkar (Motilal Oswal) – 147 runs in 4 completed innings

Bowler of the Tournament – M Salvi (J&J) – 7 wickets in 3 innings

Rarely one would see this level of reoccurrence in a cricket match in consecutive years and that too in the final of the same tournament and between the same two teams. What’s more! The same bowler picking up a five wicket haul and single handedly ensuring his team’s title victory. It was literally a repeat of 2014 finals.
Riding on second consecutive five-for from Abhishek Vats, separated by a year and two finals, Swami Shradhanand College successfully defended their DU Inter College title against Aryabhatta College. He was my man of the match for his superb bowling display. He created havoc in the early part of Aryabhatta’s innings, from which they were unable to come out till the very end.
The venue was NSIT, Dwarka. This ground was quite big when compared with other DU venues. As it rained the previous night, the weather turned windy, making the toss all the more important. The pitch had lot to offer in the morning. Shradhanand were lucky this time and expectedly, opted to field first. Both teams matched each other man by man so it was really difficult to predict a winner before the toss.
It was on Aryabhatta’s batsmen to see out the initial overs and build their innings. Exactly the opposite happened. The fiery opening spells from Shradhanand new ball bowlers Abhishek Vats and Raunaq Dabas had half the batting back in the hut when the scoreboard read 32. Aryabhatta camp was down and out when Shivank (38 runs, 56 balls, 1×4, 1×6) with supporting hands from Manish (10 runs, 40 balls) and PulkitNarang (26 runs, 36 balls, 2×4) bailed them out by dealing in singles and doubles. Aryabhatta’sinnings ended for 117 runs in the 35th over. Abhishek Vats took a five wicket haul, while Raunaq and Aakarshit Gomez shared a couple of wickets each.
The writing was very much on the wall after the first innings. But Aryabhatta boys were a tough nut to crack and Shradhanand were very well aware of this fact. Throughout the tournament they have been really difficult to get away. They blew away SGGSCC for 63 in the semi-finals. They did have the confidence to at least make a match out of their low score and avenge the defeat of 2014. And the way they bowled, it was of no surprise to anyone that despite their low total, the match entered the last 5 overs.

Shradhanand batsmen seemed in no hurry to overhaul the target. But Aryabhatta captain bowled an inspired spell, and had Shradhanand on back foot with 5 down for 64 in 18th over. But after that they had loosened the grip as Shamsher Yadav (27 runs) and Deepak Khatri (35 runs, 35 balls, 3×4, 1×6) milked the bowlers and got their team closer to the target. Deepak finished the game in style with a six over mid-wicket of the bowling of Shivank. Pulkit, Rajesh and Yogesh shared 2 wickets each.
Aryabhatta’s Journey:
Group Stage: Defeated SSCBS, Zakhir Hussain, SGTB Khalsa
Semifinal: Defeated SGGSCC
Shradhanand’s Journey:
Group Stage: Defeated SGGSCC, Venkateswara, Ambedkar
Semifinal: Defeated SGTB Khalsa
Brief Scores:
Aryabhatta: 117 all out in 34.1 overs (Shivank 38, Pulkit 26, Vats 5/32)
Shradhanand: 119/6 in 30.2 overs (Deepak 35, Shamsher 27, Yogesh 2/26, Pulkit 2/28)

The season 5 of the Jolly Premier League 2015 had already kicked off last week and the teams met yet again to play the league and final matches. What added the spice to the tournament was the lush green ground surrounded by various trees, railway, and of course the gymkhana on one side. If this was not enough, it was telecast LIVE in Rajesh Hathway Cable across Mumbai. 5 matches were played to decide the semi finals spot to be played on April 12th and also the finals on the same day.
Final Match Report
Akash Seth’s brilliant knock of 35 from just 23 balls set the tone of the match as Orange Spartans defeated Sanghavi XI in the final of Jolly Premier League held at Ghatkopar Jolly Gymkhana. He was fittingly adjudged man of the match for his match winning knock that included 6 hits to the fence.
Sanghavi XI won the toss and chose to bat first in 10 overs a side contest. Batsmen are generally not expected to settle in an innings of just 60 balls. Only 2 batsmen made major contributions in Sanghavi’s innings as they scored 87 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Opener Nishank scored 29 off 21 balls with 2 fours and a six and kept the scoreboard ticking. But it was no. 3 Aditya who really took the charge as he hammered Spartans bowlers for 41 runs in just 20 balls with 3 hits over the boundary rope. The nest highest contribution was of extras that amounted to 10. Rest of the batting just fell like nine pins. Spartans bowler Jitesh grabbed 3 wickets giving away just 5 runs in his quota of 2 overs. Excellent figures by T-10 standrards.

The target of 88 was very much achievable and opener Akash showed the way with 35. Niraj and Kishan scored 16 each as Orange Spartans overhauled the target in the last over with 4 wickets and 4 balls to spare. Sanghavi bowler Jinesh picked up 2 wickets but could not prevent his team from losing the game and the trophy.
Brief Scores: Sanghavi XI: 87/8 in 10 overs (Aditya 41, Nishank 29, Jitesh 2/5)
Orange Spartans: 90/6 in 9.2 overs (Akash 35, Niraj 16, Kishan 16, Jinesh 2/22)

Star India and Accenture Consulting faced off for the Championship Title rights in the finals of the T20 Master’s Cup Edition 4 organized by ONEWORLD of SPORTS. The T20 Master’s Cup series of tournaments are one of the most prestigious cricket series for Corporates in Mumbai with a history dating back to 2009 and featuring some of the best cricketing grounds in the city. The 4th edition of the 2014-15 series saw 12 teams – Walt Disney , Media on, Deutsche bank, IDFC, Exim bank, Rave Tech, Axis risk consulting , Motilal Oswal , Richmond , DWS, Star and Accenture and after some tough and exciting cricket in both the league and knockout rounds, Accenture and Star India were the final 2 standing. The finals were held at the scenic Dilip Vengsarkar Foundation Cricket Academy at Mahul.
What a cracker of a match. An expected finale finish. Just when you think that the game is tilting towards one team, the balance shifts and is not restored till the third last ball of the match is bowled, which is a wide! And that is how Star TV won the match and the Mastercup edition 4. This was a match for brave hearts. The number of impact players in both sides and “never-say-die” attitude is what made it a perfect finish to the tournament.
Accenture went to bat first and recovered remarkably from a slow start to end with a very healthy 154 on the board in their allotted 20 overs losing 7 batsmen in the process. Most of the top and middle order batsmen contributed to the score but it required a Mukesh special to provide a much needed boost to Accenture innings. Mukesh hammered Star TV bowlers for 39 runs in just 20 balls with three hits over the fence. Opener Siddharth scored a valuable 36. Star TV bowler Pritish picked up two wickets whereas Manish, Naik and Randhir shared a wicket each.

After restricting Accenture to a modest total, Star TV went in with a strategy of saving the wickets early on and attack in the second half of the chase. However, Accenture had other plans. Star lost a wicket each on the first ball of 4,5,6 and 7th overs and were left reeling at 35/4 with little hope of saving the match and lifting the cup. However things changed after the drinks for Star as Balvinder and Pritish clobbered 32 runs in the next 3 overs. Balvinder was caught out for an excellent 35 off just 20 balls but not before he had injected a new life into the match.
Chants of “arrey bhaiya chootey lagan” and “ganpati bappa morya” were getting louder in the Star camp as only 55 were required off 46 balls.
It was down to 15 of 12 and then 9 of 6 and suddenly the match had somehow conspired to build a pressure cooker situation with only the 2 umpires in the center displaying a serene calm. With 4 runs off off the first 3 deliveries, 5 was required off the next 3 when a routine coverdrive somehow managed to elude a diving Accenture fielder and find the boundary ropes. 1 run, 2 deliveries and 2 wickets as Nilesh from Accenture perhaps hoped for a magical 2 wickets – alas the delivery itself was declared a wide as Nilesh put everything into the delivery but missed the line.

It was the opening match of DGRS cricket challenge cup played between Raheja and Dindoshi Sports Club (DSC), wherein DSC won the toss and elected to bat first. What happened after the toss was unimaginable ! The imposing batsman from DSC, Ajay Mahale left everyone awestruck. He scored 105* in just 47 balls scoring fours and sixes at will and hitting the ball at every corner of the ground. Pradeep also joined Ajay in the attack and scored a quickfire 40* off 13 balls. Ajay and Pradeep recorded a successful partnership of 62 in 22 balls to end the innings at a massive total of 198 in 20 overs.

With such huge totals to chase the batting side either crumbles or emerges out on the winning side. One would expect DSC team to be a bit complacent however that wasnt the case and a disciplined bowling by Nilesh P and Sameer placed DSC on the winning side.
The day belonged to Ajay Mahale and everyone bowed to his powerful performance.
Brief Scores

DSC – 198/5 in 20 overs; Ajay Mahale – 105* (47), Pradeep 40*(13)
Raheja Team :- 110 / all out ; Nilesh P – (4-16-1) and Sameer (4-35-3)

Match report as discussed with Dinesh Mhatre
It was an overall team effort as well with both batsmen and bowlers chipping in individually to contribute to the victory.
CMI won the toss and chose to bat first. The opening stand lasted for mere 3 balls as Yatin Shinde failed to protect his wickets against Ravish. But it was the excellent 80 run stand between Girish and Abhijit in approx. 9 overs that restored the momentum of the innings. CMI batsmen maintained a good run rate throughout and eventually scored 154 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Anup and Rohan also chipped in with quick fire 33 and 22 respectively. Extras also amounted to 22. Indus Tower bowler Kiran snapped 2 wickets in his quota of 4 overs.
The total was competitive but achievable. But Indus Towers could not keep up with the tempo and ran out of overs in their chase that required a run rate of just below 8. Opener Ravish top scored with 27 and Johnson chipped in with 25 but lack of support from rest of the batting did them in. CMI bowlers did a commendable job in restricting the opposition to 120. Abhijit and Nishantpicked 2 wickets each. As many as four other bowlers shared a wicket each.
Abhijit Babardesai was adjudged man of the match for his superlative efforts with both bat and ball.
Brief Scores: CMI: 154/7 in 20 overs (Abhijit 38, Girish 37, Kiran 2/26)
Indus Towers: 120/8 in 20 overs (Ravish 27, Johnson 25, Abhijit 2/24, Nishant 2/15)
