West Zone and North Zone locked horns against each other at Ranchi in the on-going women’sU-19 inter-zonal two day tournament. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, West Zone was bundled out for a paltry 149 in 59.5 overs. Renuka Chaudhari (53) and Tejal Hasabnis (54) were the only two batswomen to have scored majority of the runs. Harleen Deol rattled the West Zone batting line-up with a five wicket haul and received good backing from Vandana Chaturvedi (3-38) and Komalpreet Kour (2-11).

In response, North Zone scored 210 in 76.3 overs, taking the first innings lead of 61 runs. After shining with the ball, Harleen Deol (47) came out strong with the bat, as she top scored for her team. Tejal Hasabnis swinged her arm to pick up 4-36 in 25.3 overs.

In the second innings, when West Zone trailed by 61 runs, it was important for them to not lose wickets.  Yastika Bhatia (43*) and Jemimah Rodrigues (45) just did what the doctor had ordered for and provided West Zone with a solid start. The two-day play ended with West Zone scoring 101-1 in 39 overs in their second innings. North Zone grabbed 3 points, thanks to their first innings lead and West Zone had to settle with 1 point.

SS Travels faced Kotak Mahindra Bank on 23rd Jan, in the on-going Milan T20 Mega Corporate Cricket League, organized by Mr. Niranjan Jana and is being played in Mumbai. Kotak Mahindra won the toss and elected to bat first. They went off to a flyer as the openers Nishikant (46 runs off 31 balls) and Rugved (71 runs off 40 balls) played brilliantly and gave a great start to the team. Kotak Mahindra scored a massive 218-5 in their full quota of 20 overs.

In response, SS Travels were done and dusted for 121 runs in 18.2 overs, thus losing the match by 97 runs. Sameer Rane (25 runs off 30 balls) fought hard, but had no backing from rest of the batting line-up. Vikki was the pick of the bowlers for Kotak, finishing with 3-27 in his four overs. Rugved was adjudges as the Man of the Match for his match winning knock of 71 runs.

Naaptol and HDFC Life had an encounter on 23rd Jan in a T20 match of the on-going Milan T20 Mega Corporate Cricket League, organized by Mr. Niranjan Jana and is being played in Mumbai. Naaptol won the toss and elected to field first. HDFC Life, who was put in to bat, scored a defendable 158-10 in 19.3 overs. Thomson (32 runs off 18 balls) was the highest run-getter for HDFC and was well-supported by cameos from Sachin (26 runs off 24 balls) and Mateen (26 runs off 15 balls). Pravin was the best bowler for Naptool bagging 3-24.

In reply, Naptool played well for their 149, however fell short by just nine runs. Half century by Moeez Khan (50 runs off 43 balls) went in vain as he didn’t receive much support from rest of the batsmen. Shrikant bowled well and ended with figures of 4-21 in his full quota of four overs. His splendid bowling effort was awarded with the Man of the Match prize.

ZA Cricket Academy locked horns against Notorious on 23rd Jan, in a T20 match of the 5th Corporate Cricket League in Delhi, organized by Smashtrees. Winning the toss and putting ZA Cricket Academy to bat first, a formidable total of 232-5 was posted on board in 20 overs. The ZA Academy batsmen had a wonderful day at awesome, especially Lalit who scored a quick fire 70 off just 40 balls. Shadab (51*) and Mukun (36) also contributed with the bat. There was not much for Notorious bowlers as they were hammered all-round the park. Saurav was the pick of the bowlers accounting for two wickets.

Chasing a daunting target of 233 was always going to be tough. Notorious failed to put up a good show and were bundles out for a paltry 103 in 13.2 overs, losing the match by a mammoth margin of 129 runs. Gaurav (20) and Madhav (19) got the required starts, but failed to capitalize on the same. Picking up 3-20 in his three overs, Rahul was the best bowler for ZA Cricket Academy. Lalit was bestowed with the Man of the Match award for his brilliant knock of 70 runs.

CEX and HUL faced off against each other on 23rd Jan in Mumbai in the on-going Dreamz Trophy T20 cricket tournament. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, CEX posted run a ball total of 120 runs in their full quota of 20 overs. Nikhil Tanna was the star performer for CEX scoring 33 runs and received good support from Zulkarnain Shaikh (24). Jatin Khurana picked up 2-12 in his four overs, thereby restricting CEX for 120 runs.

Chasing a modest target of 121 runs, HUL tumbled down for 98 in 18.1 overs, thus losing the match by 22 runs. Rajesh Powar (26) was the lone fighter in HUL’s innings. After playing his role with the bat, Nikhil Tanna shined with the ball as he picked up 3-18 in his four overs. Zulkarnain Shaikh and Deep Shah also accounted for two wickets apiece. At the end of the play, Nikhil Tanna was honoured with the Man of the Match award for his all-round performance.

On 23rd Jan, Reliance took on Wockhardt at Shree Lad ground (Azad Maidan) in Dreamz Trophy 40 overs cricket tournament match. Winning the toss and asking Reliance to bat first, Wockhardt seemed to have invited trouble for themselves. Reliance openers Sunil Somrajan and Amrut Shetye gave a good solid start to Reliance. Sunil Somrajan played a blistering knock of 103 runs off 70 balls, while Amrut Shetye scored a well-constructed half century (59 runs off 68 balls). Reliance put on board 204 runs in 38 overs and were granted 30 runs as Wockhardt bowled two overs short, taking their score to 234-5.

In response, Wockhardt were bowled out for 124 in 26.5 overs, thereby losing the match by 110 runs. Sandesh Amrute was the pick of the bowlers for Reliance, grabbing four wickets for 26 runs in his six overs. Sunil Somrajan was awarded the Man of the Match prize for his match winning knock of 103 runs.

Sony Multiscreen media (MSM) faced Godrej on 23rd Jan at St. Xavier’s ground (Azad) in a match of the on-going Dreamz Trophy T40 Overs Cricket Tournament 2015-16. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Sony MSM posted a handsome total of 310-7 in their full quota of 40 overs. Riding on Jigar Soni’s wonderful innings of 85 runs which came of just 62 balls and a quick fire half century from Ajay Singh (56 runs off 33 balls), Sony MSM could cross the 300-run mark. There was not much to cheer for Godrej bowlers as they were hammered all-round the park. Pratik Doshi and Kundan were the pick of the bowlers, picking up two wickets a piece.

Chasing a daunting target, it was necessary for Godrej to start off well. However Sony MSM bowlers bowled exceedingly well to bundle out Godrej for a paltry 80 in mere 19.5 overs. Dhaval Pawaskar (25) was the top scorer for Godrej. Godrej batsmen had no answers for Anand Surve’s mystery bowling as he finished off with 7-21 in his 8 overs. His hat-trick rattled the Godrej batting line-up and Anand received good support from Omkar Gangan (3-8). Sony MSM won the match by a huge margin of 230 runs. Anand Surve was adjudged as the Man of the Match for his splendid bowling effort.

Sultan Sports locked horns against Dronacharya Foundation in the fourth T20 Pool B match at Delhi in New Year Cup 2016. Batting first, Sultan Sports posted on board a daunting total of 156-4 in their full quota of 20 overs, courtesy Sachin’s splendid innings of 61 runs. Chandan (28) and Pradeep (20) too chipped in for Sultan Sports. Radhey Sham was the pick of the bowlers for Dronacharya grabbing two wickets.

In response, Dronacharya was bundled out for 129 in 17.3 overs, thus losing the match by 27 runs. After shining with the ball, Radhey Sham played a good knock of 28 runs, however it went in vain as none of the other batsmen could contribute to the score. Ravinder Brij picked up four wickets giving away just six runs, thereby stealing the match from Dronacharya. Prince was the other bowler who picked up a couple of wickets.

Rajput Gymkhana faced Dronacharya Foundation in the third T20 match of Pool B in New Year Cup 2016, played at Delhi. Batting first, Rajput Gymkhana was done and dusted for a paltry 97 in 17 overs. Dronacharya bowlers bowled a disciplined line and length, not allowing Rajput Gymkhana batsmen to score freely. Vivek (40) was the lone fighter in Rajput Gymkhana’s batting line-up, with no other batsmen contributing to the score. Satyam and Lakshay of Dronacharya Foundation grabbed one wicket apiece.

Chasing 98 runs was a cake walk for Dronacharya batsmen. They finished off the game in style by chasing down the target in 16 overs, keeping six wickets in hand. Maahvir (24) and Ikhlaq (23) batted well together to see their team home. Tushar (2-22) and Aryaman (2-21) were the pick of the bowlers for Rajput Gymkhana, however their efforts went in vain as Dronacharya had the last laugh.

In the second T20 match of Pool B of the New Year Cup 2016, played at Delhi, Young Strikers faced Dronacharya Foundation. Young Strikers put on board a formidable 134-4 in 20 overs, courtesy Sukhman Mori’s (34) batting performance. Gaurav Kataria (22) and Chetan (15) also contributed with the bat to take their team to a decent total.  There was not much for the Dronacharya bowlers, apart from Arun and Arpit, who picked up one wicket apiece.

Later in the day, Dronacharya Foundation could manage 124-7, falling short by eight runs. Haroon Akhtar’s splendid half century (53) went in vain as his team lost the match. After contributing with the bat, Chetan shined with the ball, as he picked up four wickets giving away just 20 runs. Young Strikers won the second match on the trot, riding on Chetan’s all-round performance.
