Hindustan Unilever locked horns against HDFC Bank on 30th Jan in the on-going Dreamz T20 cricket tournament in Mumbai. HUL won the toss and elected to field first. It was a good decision by HUL as they restricted HDFC Bank for a paltry 134 in their full quota of 20 overs. Dhanesh top scored for HDFC with 31 runs, and received good support from Rakesh (26) and Lawrence (24). Mario Fernandez was the pick of the bowlers for HUL as he picked up 2-14 in his four overs.

In response, HUL chased down the target comfortably in just 16.5 overs and registered a comprehensive victory by 10 wickets. The openers Mario Fernandez (51) and Sachin (72) played beautifully well to take their team home. HDFC bowlers failed to strike even once in the match.

Mario Fernandez was awarded with the Man of the Match prize for his match winning all-round performance.

 

Zycus Infotech clashed against BASF Sports Club on 30th Jan in the on-going Dreamz T20 cricket tournament in Mumbai. Zycus won the toss and elected to field first. It was a good decision by Zycus as they bundled out BASF for a paltry 104 in just 14.5 overs. Dinesh top scored for BASF with 39 runs, however he had no company from his fellow batsmen. Bhupendra rattled the BASF batting and finished off with 6-29 in his four overs.

In reply, it was a cake walk for Zycus as they chased down the target in 17.2 overs, keeping seven wickets in hand. Alok scored a brilliant half century and remained unbeaten to take his team home. There was not much for the BASF bowlers, apart from Nishikant who picked up 2-21 in his four overs.

Bhupendra was bestowed with the Man of the Match award for his fantastic bowling performance.

Central Zone locked horns against West Zone on 29th Jan at JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi on the final day of the Women’s U-19 Inter-Zonal two day tournament. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Central Zone put on board 187 runs, thanks to some excellent batting efforts of Ekta (53), Yashi Pandey (43*) and Disha Kasat (36). Jaya Mohite was the pick of the bowlers as she grabbed 4-46 in 30.5 overs.

In response, West Zone tumbled down for a paltry 133, courtesy Tanu Kala’s (4-34) wonderful bowling performance. She received good support from Rashi Kanojia who finished off with the figures of 3-47 in 25 overs. West Zone batswomen got off to starts but failed to capitalize. Vrushali Bhagat and Renuka Chaudhari top scored for West Zone with 24 runs apiece.

Coming in to bat in the second innings, sitting on a useful lead of 54 runs, Central Zone scored 68-3 at the close of play.

Central Zone bagged 3 points on the basis of the first innings lead and West Zone had to settle for 1 point.

 

South Zone faced East Zone on 29th Jan at JSCA Oval Ground, Ranchi on the final day of the Women’s U-19 Inter-Zonal two day tournament. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, South Zone posted 229 runs on boards, thanks to brilliant batting performance in the middle order. South Zone skipper Prathyusha (50) and Sanjula Naik (86) played exceedingly well. Their grit and determination saw South Zone crossing the 200 run mark in the first innings. Tanushree Sarkar was the pick of the bowlers as she grabbed 4-59 in 21.5 overs.

In reply, East Zone was bundled out for a paltry 135, courtesy Sanjula Naik’s (4-10) fabulous bowling efforts. Her all-round performance helped South Zone take the first innings lead. Anjali Singh was the top scorer for East Zone with 42 runs.

Coming in to bat in the second innings, sitting on a handsome lead of 94 runs, South Zone declared its innings for 51-3, setting up a target of 146 runs for East Zone. The match ended in a draw as East Zone managed to score 31-3 at the close of play.

South Zone bagged 3 points on the basis of the first innings lead and East Zone had to settle for 1 point.

 

Sultan Sports locked horns against Young Strikers in the final match of New Year Cup 2016 at Rajput Gymkhana Cricket Ground, Khera Garhi, Delhi. Batting first, Sultan Sports posted a defendable target of 185-9 in 35 overs. Devashish Anand’s brilliant half century (51 runs) accompanied with skipper Brij Bhushan’s knock of 41 runs helped Sultan Sports cross the 180-run mark. Ankit, Ajay and Rohit picked up two wickets apiece for the Young Strikers.

In reply, Young Strikers had to chase the total scoring slightly over a 5-runs in an over. Ankit was the top scorer for Young Strikers as he made a brilliant 60. Gourav Kataria was the other batsman who chipped in scoring 35 runs. Sultan Sports bowled well and restricted Young Strikers to 174-8, thus losing the match by 11 runs. Ubed Khan bowled a magical spell as he grabbed 4-25 in his seven overs. Sultan Sports had outperformed Young Strikers and went on to win the New Year Cup tournament. Ubed Khan was awarded with the Man of the Match prize for his excellent bowling efforts. Brij Bhushan of Sultan Sports was bestowed with the Man of the Series award.

The other honours that were rendered were; best bowler to Khushnood Ziya, best fielder Vimal Routela, best batsman Gourav Kataria and best player Ankit.

DTDC locked horns against Weatherford on 23rd Jan at Hindustan Construction ground in the on-going Kurukshetra Cup T20 tournament, organized by Beyond Infinity, a company formed by two brothers Piyush Rai and Devashish Rai, who are passionate about this sport. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, DTDC scored a mammoth 196-5 in 20 overs, courtesy the magnificent performances of Manager Gupta (65 runs off 45 balls) and Abhishek Tiwari (100 runs off 50 balls). Abhishek was simply a treat to watch as he smashed the Weatherford bowlers all-round the park, hitting 13 boundaries and three sixes in his century. Prabhas Thakur was the best Weatherford bowler picking up 4-30 in his four overs.

Chasing a daunting target of 197 runs was always going to be tough. Though the openers Akshay Upasane (46 runs off 37 balls) and Satyaprakash (30 runs off 23 balls) provided a solid start to Weatherford’s innings, the target was just too steep to achieve. Weatherford was restricted to 140-9 in 20 overs, thus losing the match by 56 runs. Vishwadeep Jadhav and Virendra Yadav shined with the ball as they grabbed three wickets apiece. The star performer of the match Abhishek Tiwari was honoured with the Man of the Match award for his fabulous innings of 100 runs.

 

Digital Broadcasting played against Sodexo on 26th Jan at Young Muslim Sports Club in the on-going Kurukshetra Cup T20 tournament, organized by Beyond Infinity, a company formed by two brothers Piyush Rai and Devashish Rai, who are passionate about this sport. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Digital Broadcasting tumbled down for 102 runs in 19.3 overs. Opening bat Jatin Sharma was the highest scorer for Digital Broadcasting with 39 runs. A bizarre running between the wickets saw five run outs in Digital Broadcasting’s innings. Karan Bhujabal was the pick of the bowlers grabbing 3-25 in his four overs.

103 runs was an easy chase and Sodexo made sure that they chased down this target comfortably. Opening batsman Amit Sawant (32*) and middle order bat Karan Bhujabal (17*) made sure that there were no hiccups in the chase. They achieved the target in just 11.4 overs, keeping eight wickets in hand. Karan Bhujabal was honoured with the Man of the Match award for his match winning all-round performance.

 

On 23rd Jan, Arbuda Agrochemicals clashed against Weatherford at Hindustan Construction ground in the on-going Kurukshetra Cup T20 tournament, organized by Beyond Infinity, a company formed by two brothers Piyush Rai and Devashish Rai, who are passionate about this sport. Arbuda won the toss and elected to bat first. They put on board a daunting total of 165-7 in 20 overs, courtesy Anand Sharma’s composed knock of 33 runs in 31 balls. He received good support from Imran Khan (19*) and Vishweshwar Singh (18) who chipped in with the bat. Chetan Dighe was the pick of the bowlers for Weatherford grabbing 3-17 in his four overs.

In reply, Weatherford was bundled out for a paltry 73 in 15.3 overs. Sandeep Jathar was the lone fighter and remained unbeaten on 31. None of the other Weatherford batsmen could get off to a start. Sajid Shaikh, Vishweshwar Singh and Mukesh Patel rattled the Weatherford batting picking up two wickets apiece.  Vishweshwar Singh was awarded with the Man of the Match prize for his match winning all-round performance.

Arbuda Agrochemicals locked horns against Axis Bank at Young Muslim Sports Club in the on-going Kurukshetra Cup T20 tournament, organized by Beyond Infinity, a company formed by two brothers Piyush Rai and Devashish Rai, who are passionate about this sport. Arbuda won the toss and elected to bat first. They put on board a mammoth 196-7 in 20 overs, courtesy Lalit Sharma’s fantastic knock of 71 runs in 51 balls. He received good support from Sagar Shah, who chipped in with a quick fire 41 off just 31 balls. Rohit Dubey was the pick of the bowlers for Axis accounting for 3-17 in his three overs.

Chasing 197 runs was a Herculean task. Arbuda with its disciplined bowling performance restricted Axis to a paltry 125-8 in 20 overs, thus winning the match by 71 runs. Pratap Kawadi top scored for Axis with 38 runs. Sajid Shaikh was the best bowler for Arbuda as he struck 3- 28 in his four overs. Lalit Sharma was awarded with the Man of the Match prize for his match winning knock of 71 runs.

Vinayak Marine Services and Indiacast clashed on 24th Jan at Vengsarkar Academy, Mahul in the on-going Master’s Cup T20 tournament, organized by Oneworld Corp. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Vinayak Marine Services put on board 161-3 in their full quota of 20 overs. Viraj played an innings of his life as he scored 90 runs off just 62 balls, hitting 11 boundaries and two sixes. Gaurav Nikam was the best bowler for Indiacast as he grabbed 2-38 in his four overs.

Chasing 162 runs was going to be a daunting task, but a solid middle ordering batting performance by India came to its rescue. Wicket-keeper batsman Zaid (36), Gaurav Nikam (33*) and Abhay (35) contributed well with the bat to see their team home. Indiacast chased down the target easily in 18.2 overs, keeping five wickets in hand. Gaurav Nikam of Indiacast was bestowed with the Man of the Match award for his brilliant all-round performance.
