Mumbai faced Baroda on 3rd Feb at Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy, BKC, in the on-going Women’s Cricket U-23 Zonal League One Day tournament. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Mumbai posted a formidable total of 231-8 in 50 overs, courtesy twin half centuries scored by Humaira Kazi (64) and Shweta Haranhalli (57). Both these batswomen played some aggressive cricket, piercing the gaps with spectacular precision. Gayatri Naik and Nancy Patel were the pick of the bowlers for Baroda grabbing couple of wickets apiece.

Chasing 232 runs in 50 overs was not going to be a cake walk and Mumbai bowlers did just what the doctor had asked for. They bundled out Baroda for 145 in 41.1 overs, thus winning the match comprehensively by 86 runs. Palak Patel (51) and Tarannum Pathan (48) played well but failed to take their team home. It was an all-round effort from Mumbai, with Manali Dakshini and Fatima Jaffer picking up two wickets each.

Mumbai will face Maharashtra in their next encounter on 6th Feb at Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy, BKC.

 

Mumbai girls locked horns against Saurashtra on 2nd Feb at Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana, Kandivli, Mumbai, in the on-going West Zone U-23 cricket tournament. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Mumbai posted a defendable total of 189 in 50 overs, thanks to a brilliant half century scored by the opening bat Hemali Borwankar (57). She received good support from Vrushali Bhagat (43) and Sayali Satghare (30), who chipped in for Mumbai. Tanya Rao and Pooja Nimavat picked up couple of wickets apiece for Saurashtra.

In reply, Saurashtra was bundled out for a paltry 81 in 33.4 overs, thus losing the match by a huge margin of 108 runs. Saurashtra skipper Bhakti shastri remained unbeaten on 41, however she was the lone fighter for the team. Manali Dakshini (2-24) and Sayali Satghare (2-17) rattled the Saurashtra top order and received good backing from Jemimah Rodrigues (3-7) towards the end.

VFCL locked horns against Highflyers on 31st Jan 2016 at Yashwant Nagar Ground, Mumbai, in the on-going Friends Premiere League (FPL) T20 tournament. VFCL won the toss and asked Highflyers to bat first. Niranjan Tungare was the star performer for Highflyers as he scored a brilliant 76 off just 47 balls, hitting five boundaries and three maximums. He received good support from Bharat Singh who played well for his 34. Rishabh Singh was the pick of the bowlers for VFCL as he finished off with the figures of 3-23 in his three overs.

In response, VFCL was restricted to 150-8 in 20 overs, courtesy Chandan Jha’s splendid bowling efforts of 3-30 in four overs. Arsalan Shaikh top scored with 62 runs off just 48 balls, however his half century went in vain, as his team fell short of15 runs.

Niranjan Tungare was bestowed with the Man of the Match award for his match winning knock of 76 runs.

TC Challengers faced off Chintamani on 30th Jan 2016 at Yashwant Nagar ground, Mumbai, in the on-going Friends Premiere League (FPL) T20 competition. Batting first, TC Challengers posted a formidable 173-9 in their full quota of 20 overs. Kaushal Modi was the star performer for Challengers as he scored a quick-fire 65 off just 38 balls, hitting seven boundaries and three sixes. Rojer (31) and Ganesh Patil (24) chipped in with the bat for their team. Mihir Shah was the pick of the bowlers for Chintamani as he grabbed four wickets.

In reply, Challengers restricted Chintamani 163-7 in 20 overs, thus falling short of 10 runs. Sundaresan’s half century (56) at the top of the order went in vain as his team could not chase the target successfully. Gautam Patkar (48) was the other batsman who played well for Chintamani. Rojer shined with the ball as well for Challengers as he accounted for three wickets.

Kaushal Modi was awarded with the Man of the Match prize for his match-winning knock of 65 runs.

Subsea Pro faced World Sports Academy at Parsee Cyclist, Mumbai on 30th Jan 2016, in the on-going Shiraz-E-Hind Tournament, organized by Mariya Sports. World Sports won the toss and elected to field first. An ordinary bowling effort by World Sports saw Subsea putting a challenging 149-8 in 20 overs. Adith was the best batsman for Subsea scoring 33 runs off just 29 balls. Omprakash also played well for his 26. Yuvraj Lad shined with the ball as he picked up 3-23 in his four overs.

Chasing 150 runs was not going to be easy. Subsea bowled extremely well to bundle out World Sports for a paltry 94 in 17.3 overs, winning the match by a handsome margin of 55 runs. Opening bat Praveen Singh batted nicely for his 20 runs, but was not supported by the rest of the line-up. Laxman Kumbhar and Anupam Tyagi rattled the World Sports batting, grabbing three wickets apiece.

Anupam Tyagi was presented with the Man of the Match award for his disciplined bowling performance (3-21 in four overs).

Kapol Cricket Club faced Mahindra & Mahindra FES on 30th Jan 2016 in the on-going Mega Corporate T20 League at Youth Own Union Plot 7, Mumbai. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Kapol posted a formidable 177-5 in their full quota of 20 overs, courtesy a scintillating batting performance from Ankit Gandhi. Gandhi remained unbeaten on 113 which came off just 74 balls. He smashed 10 boundaries and four sixes in his innings. Jitendra Mandavkar was the pick of the bowlers for Mahindra as he finished off with the figures of 2-34 in his four overs.

178 runs was a daunting target. It was important for Mahindra to get off to a good start. Though there was not a single big knock, a few small knocks helped Mahindra to chase down the target with one ball to spare. Mahindra scored 180-9 in 19.5 overs. Raju More top-scored for his team with a quickfire 42 which came off just 29 balls. Shobhit Mathuria, Nayan Mehta and Sagar Chandarana grabbed couple of wickets apiece.

Raju More was awarded the Man of the Match prize for his all-round performance (42 runs and 1 wicket).

ZA Cricket Club and Headstrong met on 30th Jan 2016, in a T20 match of the 5th Corporate Cricket League in Delhi, organized by Smashtrees. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, ZA Cricket Club posted a mammoth 206-6 in 20 overs. Zia-ul-Haq (68) and Avneet (80) played exceptionally well to take their team past the 200-run mark. They smashed the Headstrong bowlers all-round the park and had a great day at office. In the high scoring innings of ZA, Anil managed to pick up 2-38 in his four overs.

207 runs was a mountain chase. Apart from the opening bat Shafiq (37), none of the Headstrong batsman looked in good shape. After shining with the bat, Avneet rolled his arm over and to his and his team’s delight grabbed 6-26 in 3.5 overs. It was Avneet’s day and he won the match for his team. Sonu and Sachin were the other bowlers among wickets, who picket a couple apiece.

Avneet was honoured with the Man of the Match award for his mind-blowing all-round performance (80 runs and 6 wickets).

 

 

All Cargo clashed against Akkuments Sports Club on 30th Jan 2016 in the on-going Milan 40 overs Cricket Tournament match at Oval Maidan, Mumbai. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, All Cargo was bundled out for 192 in 38.5 overs. Opening bat Vishwas Shinde played a brilliant knock of 81 runs and the All Cargo batting revolved around him. Amish Dabholkar (22) and Hitesh Joshi (20*) chipped in with the bat as well. Aditya Nikam was the pick of the bowlers for Akkuments as he finished off with the figures of 3-26 in his 7.5 overs.

Chasing 193 runs was a Herculean task. Akkuments succumbed to the pressure and tumbled down for a paltry 90 runs, thus losing the match by a huge margin of 102 runs. Umer Syed (3-19) and Umang Sheth (3-27) rattled the Akkuments batting line-up. None of the batsmen could get off to starts and it was a batting collapse at Oval.

HUS Films Pvt. Ltd. locked horns against Abbott Sports Club at Parsee Cyclist, Mumbai on 30th Jan 2016, in the on-going Shiraz-E-Hind Tournament, organized by Mariya Sports. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, HUS Films was bundled out for 139 in 18.4 overs. Opening bat Siddhesh Mayekar (29) top scored for his team and received good support from Azim Dayatar (27) and Hitesh Singh (21). Sandesh Bhoir was the best bowler for Abbott as he picked up 2-22 in his four overs.

In reply, Abbott could just manage 112-9 in 20 overs. Ajit Sonawane played well for his 31 runs, but the other Abbott batsmen failed to contribute. A disciplined bowling effort by HUS Films helped them restrict Abbott to 112 thus winning the match by 27 runs. Roshan, Azim Dayatar and Hitesh Singh grabbed two wickets apiece to rattle the Abbott batting line-up.

Azim Dayatar was awarded with the Man of the Match prize for his match winning all-round performance (27 runs and 2 wickets).

 

IPCA clashed against Abhyudaya Bank on 30th Jan in the on-going Dreamz Trophy 40 overs cricket tournament in Mumbai. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Abhyudaya managed to score 199-8 in 40 overs. Opening bat Satish Rane was the highest run-getter with 31 runs. Yogesh Dhumal was the pick of the bowlers for IPCA as he grabbed 2-9 in two overs.

Chasing 200 runs seemed just too easy for IPCA looking at the way they batted. Sujit Sawant played a magnificent knock of 66 runs which came of just 64 balls. He remained unbeaten and saw his team through. Nitin Sawant (39), Yogesh Dhumal (32) and Harshal Padwal (28) chipped in with the bat for IPCA. They chased down the target in just 35.2 overs, winning the match by five wickets.

Sujit Sawant was honoured with the Man of the Match award for his match winning knock.
