SS Travels thrashed AN Lions last week in what turned out to be a one sided affair in Mumbai during the JD Sports Club Corporate T20 Cricket Tournament. Jitendra Deshmukh, who was a player first, then coach and umpire is the man behind this tournament. He has different feathers to his cricketing cap.

Swapnil Rawat played well for his 65 off just 44 balls and was instrumental in taking his team to a respectable score of 143 in 20 overs. However he did not get enough support from the rest of the batting line-up. Sachin Kurmi was the pick of the bowlers for SS Travels, picking up 3-28 in four overs. Jaydeep and Sumit too rolled their arms over to grab two wickets apiece. Kurmi was consistent and accurate throughout his spell, not allowing the batsmen to take him on.

In reply, it was just too easy for SS Travels as the top three batsmen took them home. Opening bat Sameer Rane top scored with a brilliant 61 off 41 cherries and remained unbeaten at the end of the innings. Coming in at no.3, Sachin Kurmi played a classic knock of 42 runs off 39 balls to see his team through. Not only with the ball but also with the bat, Kurmi contributed in his team’s success. SS Travels chased down the target in 15.5 overs, winning the match by nine wickets.

Sachin Kurmi (3-28 in 4 overs and 42 not out off 39 balls) was declared as the Man of the Match prize for his outstanding all-round efforts.

Mediacom outperformed Citi Bank on 9th March in the semi-final of Dreamz T20 Cricket Tournament at Azad Maidan, Mumbai. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Citi Bank posted a defendable 141-9 in 20 overs. Opening pair of Sandesh and Hasnain gave a solid start to the innings, contributing 39 runs each. However the middle order collapsed like a back of cards, with no major contributions from any of the batsmen. Rajiv, Latesh and Amol bowled well in tandem to grab couple of wickets apiece.

Chasing 142 runs in a semi-final could have been otherwise tricky, if opening bat Ketan Karnik would not have provided a good start. Having lost the other opener Sachin cheaply for just 2 runs, Ketan (87) and Sahil (38*) shouldered the responsibility well to take their team home. Ketan batted exceptionally well and played some eye-popping cricketing shots. His innings was peppered with 15 boundaries. Karnik was a treat to watch. There was nothing much for Citi bowlers apart from Shravan and Amar who accounted for one scalp each. Mediacom chased down the target in just 17 overs, keeping eight wickets in hand.

Ketan Karnik (87 runs off 57 balls) was honoured with the Man of the Match for his wonderful batting performance.

Just 12 years of age, Ayush Jethwa is already achieved many a milestones in his small but successful cricketing career. Recently he played a couple of high profile tournaments namely CPCC which is organized by Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), and Giles Shield, which is an inter-school cricket tournament for the schools in Mumbai.

This southpaw batsman had a prolific record in both these tournaments. Ayush represented Payyade Sports Club in CPCC tournament and also won the prestigious U-14 Best Batsman award for his terrific performance (187 runs). Jethwa was a star performer in Giles Shield as well. He played for his school SVIS. Some of his best scores in Giles Shield were 102 not out off just 60 balls and 115 runs. He scored tons and tons of runs, which included 11 fifties and a couple of centuries, one of which was against Manav Vidya Mandir. If you look at his performance for this year, he has scored a mammoth 1425 runs off just 25 matches. He is truly a run machine you can say.

Not only does he let his bat do all the talking, but also when he is handed the ball, he can make any batsmen quiet. Ayush picked up 25 wickets in as many matches, which proves that he is pretty handy with the ball as well.

Child prodigy Ayush Jethwa is an upcoming talent and certainly has a long way to go in game of Cricket. Let us hope that Ayush shines as bright as the star at the highest level and makes Mumbai proud.

It was completely a one sided affair at Young Muslims Cricket Ground, Mumbai on 12th March when DHFL took on HDIL during the JD Sports Club Corporate T20 Cricket Tournament. Jitendra Deshmukh, who was a player first, then coach and umpire is the man behind this tournament. He has different feathers to his cricketing cap.

Batting first, DHFL posted a mammoth 201-2 in 20 overs, courtesy a brilliant knock from Rohan Dsouza (100 not out of 61 balls). He was ruthless and smacked the bowlers all-round the park. In his century, he slammed 14 boundaries and a six. Rohan was a complete entertainment package was a treat to the eyes. Shiva Konar who came in at no.3 scored a wonderful 69 off just 46 balls, hitting 10 boundaries and a six. Towards the end, Sandeep Godiyal played a cameo, with 22 runs (two boundaries and as many sixes) off mere 9 cherries. Ajay Nalawade and Rakesh accounted for one scalp each.

It was not going to be easy for HDIL to chase such a mountain-like target. They were done and dusted for a humble 82 in 14.4 overs. Kiran (22) and Jitendra (20) were the only two players to score in double digit. Dipesh and Nilay were the wreckers-in-chief, picking up three wickets apiece. DHFL registered a comprehensive win of 119 runs over HDIL.

It was a cracker of a contest between Dindhoshi Sports Club and ICC on 7th March at Chereshwar Cricket Ground, Mumbai during the DSC Challenge Cup T20 match. Batting first, Dindhoshi posted a formidable 164-6 in their full quota of 20 overs, thanks to opening bat Sanjay Jadhav (46 runs off 37 balls) and no.3 batsman Aman (50 runs off 40 balls). Both these batsmen played well to help their team put up a challenging target. ICC was outstanding in the field as they accounted for four run outs. Balwant Vyas and Naushad picked up one wicket each.

In reply, ICC fought hard and their efforts paid off when they chased down the target in 19.4 overs, winning the nail biting contest match by three wickets. Amol Kangane was terrific with the bat as he amassed 53 runs off just 36 balls, hitting eight boundaries. He remained unbeaten and saw his team home. Opening bat Jayesh Waghmare (43 runs off 30 balls) provided the right kind of start to the run chase. It was a fantastic batting performance from ICC, which made the run chase look so easy. After shinning with the ball, Balwant Vyas contributed useful 18 runs off 17 cherries with the willow. Aman was the pick of the bowlers picking up 2-32 in his four overs.

Balwant Vyas (18 runs and 1-18 in 3 overs) was declared as the Man of the Match for his all-round efforts.

GEBS had a disappointing outing on 12th March when they faced ICICI Bank during the JD Sports Club Corporate T20 Challenge Cricket Tournament at Young Muslim’s Cricket Ground, Mumbai. Jitendra Deshmukh, who was a player first, then coach and umpire is the man behind this tournament. He has different feathers to his cricketing cap.

Batting first, GEBS was done and dusted for a paltry 58 in 15.2 overs. ICICI was brilliant with the ball, courtesy Abhishek and Kuldeep’s fantastic bowling efforts. Both these players accounted for two scalps each. There was nothing much in GEBS batting, apart from Rohan Chaughule (12) and Bins Neyyoth (10), being the only two to score in double digit.

It was a cake walk chase for ICICI Bank as they won the match comfortably in just 9.3 overs keeping nine wickets in hand. Sankalp Pednekar remained unbeaten on 36 off 25 balls and found able ally in Yatin (18). The openers formed a strong partnership and set the tone of the match. Pednekar was a batting delight as he blistered four boundaries and two sixes in his wonderful innings.

Sankalp Pednekar (36 runs off 25 balls) was declared as the Man of the Match for his match winning knock.
