Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Kutchi Lohana posted a strong target of 196 runs against Halai Lohana on 2nd April at Payyade Cricket Ground, Mumbai in the semi-final match of Kapol Premiere League. The openers Darshan Ruparel () and Yatish Ganatra () were wonderful and provided a handsome start to their team’s batting. Ganatra played one of his best innings as he blistered a 50-ball 100, smacking nine boundaries and five sixes. He struck at an attacking strike rate of 200 and was a splendid spectacle. Harshit Savani was the pick of the bowlers picking up 3-22 in his four overs.
Halai Lohana gave a tough fight as they finished off with 162-9 in 20 overs. They lost the match by 33 runs. Milan Rughani (43 runs off 26 balls) and Manan Thakkar (55 runs off 32 balls) played some fantastic knocks but failed to take their team home. Vishal Ruparel was the star bowler, grabbing 3-17 in four overs. Jignesh Katira and Mukesh Thakkar picked up two wickets apiece.
Yatish Ganatra (100 runs off 50 balls) was awarded with the Man of the Match prize for his scintillating century.
It was a low scoring quarter final match at Vengsarkar Academy, Mumbai, on 2nd April between Trafigura and Motilal Oswal during the T20 Master’s Cup 2015-16 Edition 5. Batting first, Trafigura was restricted to a modest 118-7 in 20 overs. Motilal Oswal bowlers bowled well in tandem, with Deepak Chalke, Mandar and Prakash being the wiocket-takers for their team. All of them ended with two wickets each. Anil Bhalala, who remained unbeaten on 59 runs off 54 balls was the lone fighter for Trafigura.
Motilal Oswal chased down the target easily in 16.3 overs, winning the match by five wickets. Opening bat Jinny Raphael (63 runs off 52 balls) was simply fantastic with the bat. Jinny provided a solid start to the run chase, scoring more than half of the runs. His innings composed of seven boundaries and a six was a treat to watch. Kishor Jog, Anil Bhalala and Bakul Shah picked up one wicket each.

Batting first, Deutsche bank posted a daunting 181-6 in their full quota of 20 overs against KPMG on 2nd April at Vengsarkar Academy, Mumbai, during the quarter final of T20 Master’s Cup 2015-16 Edition 5. Middle order bat Vinit (58 runs off 37 balls), hitting five boundaries and two sixes. He was exceptional with the bat and was a treat to watch. Unfortunately, Vinit was run out which put an end to his splendid innings. Nirav and Sagar were the pick of the bowlers, picking up couple of wickets apiece.
KPMG fought well to post 166-6 in 20 overs, falling shy of just 15 runs. Openers Raja Hudda (47) and Bharat (26) provided solid start to KPMG’s innings. Though Harsh (34) and Kunal (26) made some useful contributions in the middle order, KPMG failed to achieve the target. Anil Julka shined with the ball grabbing 3-32 in his four-over spell.
Vinit (58 runs off 37 balls) was bestowed with the Man of the Match award for his match-winning knock.
Abbott posted a daunting 201-10 in 27.4 overs against Raptakos on 2nd April at John Bright, Mumbai during the E-Merck Shield, organized under the aegis of Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). Coming in at no.8, Reetesh Shetty played a gem of an innings when he scored 55 runs off just 38 cherries, smacking nine boundaries. Shetty was a spectator’s delight as he played some good looking cricketing shots throughout his entertaining knock. Right arm medium fast bowler Ganesh Chandane was the pick of the bowlers, picking up 3-36 in his 6.4 overs.
In reply, Raptakos made a mess of the run chase as they were done and dusted for a humble 108 in 26.3 overs, losing the match by a big margin of 93 runs. Sabaji Angane top scored with 23 runs off 48 balls. Praveen Singh shined with the ball as he grabbed 3-10 in his 2.2 overs. Sandesh Bhoir and Sandeep Gedam also joined in the party by picking up two wickets each. Reetesh Shetty, who had played his role with the bat, rolled his arm over to pick up 1-14 in his 2.1 overs.
Reetesh Shetty (55 runs off 38 balls and 1-14 in 2.1 overs) was declared as the Man of the Match for his brilliant all-round performance.

Welspun posted a daunting 192-9 in their full quota of 20 overs against IL&FS on 3rd April at Vengsarkar Academy, Oval, Mumbai during the T20 Master’s Cup 2015-16 Edition 6. Chirag Baxani was brilliant with the bat as he cruised to a scintillating 55-run coming off just 27 balls. He smacked 11 boundaries in his entertaining knock. Vijay Mangalur (37 runs off 25 balls) gave him good company in the middle order. It was not an ideal bowling performance from IL&FS, apart from Niket who managed to pick up 2-39 in four overs.
In reply, IL&FS was done and dusted for a paltry 71 in just 10.3 overs, thus losing the match by a mammoth margin of 121 runs. Devendar top scored with 18 runs off 15 balls, hitting four boundaries. Nilesh Kalamhe was the pick of the bowlers picking up 3-13 in two overs.
Chirag Baxani (55 runs off 27 balls) was declared as the Man of the Match for his match-winning knock.
IL&FS had quite an ordinary day with the bat against Syntel when they were done and dusted for a modest 129 in 18.5 overs on 2nd April at Western Railway Sports Ground, Mumbai during the Woods T20 Bowled Out Corporate Cricket Tournament. Apart from the middle order bat Prashant Bhosle (37 runs off 28 balls), none of the IL&FS batsmen looked in shape. Albert was exceptional with the ball as he accounted for 4-25 in his four overs.
Vijay Shivpuram (70 not out off 41 balls) single-handedly won the match for Syntel as his team chased down the target in just 13.3 overs, winning the game by six wickets. Shivpuram was a treat to watch as he played some good-looking cricketing shots in his match-winning knock. Ganesh Pawar contributed 24 runs off 18 cherries and played well alongwith Vijay. Sameer picked up 2-27 in his four overs.

On 3rd April, Kipril Pvt Ltd locked horns against HDFC Bank in Mumbai during the Woods T20 Bowled Out Corporate Cricket Tournament. Batting first, Kipril posted a challenging 151-8 in their full quota of 20 overs. Coming in the lower middle order Akash Sheth (17 runs off 25 balls) and Jaysingh Dhaliwal (75 not out off 37 balls) played some wonderful knocks to help their team post a respectable total. Jaysingh was a treat to watch as he smacked the ball all-round the park. He scored at a strike rate of over 200 and was lethal on the bowlers. Prathamesh and Nishant were the pick of the bowlers picking up two wickets each.
HDFC managed to put up a strong fight but were bundled out against the run of play for 141 in 19.3 overs, falling short of just 10 runs. Opening bat Darshan top scored with 35 runs off 38 balls but his efforts went in vain as none of his team-mates gave him company in the run chase. Anand Thakkar shined with the ball as he grabbed 4-28 in his four overs. Jaysingh also rolled his arm over to pick up 2-35 in his four overs.
Jaysingh Dhaliwal (75 not out off 37 balls and 2-35 in 4 overs) was bestowed with the Man of the Match prize for his scintillating all-round performance.
Kwality Sports Club posted a daunting total of 389-6 in 45 overs against Surve Sports on 6th April at Central Maidan, Thane. Vaibhav Mali left the spectators speechless with his fantastic batting performance as he cruised to a blistering 174 runs, smacking 15 sixes and nine boundaries. It was a magical batting display and Vaibhav was just unstoppable on the day. Mali was undoubtedly the star of the day and was shining bright and big for his team. Kiran Arothe (51) and Nitin Shenoy (35) were the other batters who chipped in useful contributions. Pratap and Kundan picked up two wickets each.
Surve Sports was no match to the power packed batting of Kwality, as they were cheaply bundled out for a paltry 131 in 21 overs, losing the match by a mammoth margin of 258 runs. Shantanu Phanse’s well-made half century went in vain as none of the other batsmen could chip in. Tushar Shilotre (24) was the other batsman, who looked good, but could not capitalize on his start. Vaibhav Mali was not yet done for the day, as he came back into the game with a splendid five wicket haul. Mali finished off with excellent figures of 5-3 in three overs. He bowled consistently in right areas for which he was rewarded with as many as five wickets. Darshan Dyante grabbed three wickets as well.
Vaibhav Mali (174 runs and 5-3 in 3 overs) was honoured with the Man of the Match award for his mind-blowing all-round performance.
Since the last eight years, summer vacation of the school-going kids has become synonymous with the Indian Premiere League (IPL). This year too, the IPL will kick start from the second week of April. The young cricket lovers see their favourite players on the big screen and dream of seeing themselves on the same platform somewhere down the line. Monty Desai, who has been working closely with one of the best IPL teams; Rajasthan Royals for seven years, has decided to come up with somewhat similar concept, which will help this budding talent to realize their dreams. The name of the tournament is Little Champs League, which will be played by U-14 boys during the April-May period.
Desai, who is also the first Indian to be an ECB Level 3 Coach, organized this tournament last year as well. Six teams participated and they played 30-over matches, donning coloured jerseys. 14 players were required to be on field during the play as recommended by the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar to MCA. MIG, GSC, Venus Sports Academy, Naman Payyade, Parekhone and RXCA, the invitational team from Bangalore, participated last year. Rahul Dravid’s son Samit Dravid was a part of RXCA team. Every team played 10-12 matches amongst themselves. MIG was the best team winning all 10 matches.
Sachin Tendulkar, Amit Dani, Dr.PV Shetty, Rahul Dravid are all the well-wishers of this novel concept Dravid was there at the ground to see two of the matches. Some of the IPL players like Sagar Trivedi, Harvinder Saran and Pradeep Sahoo witnessed the final match in 2015.
Just like any other international match, every game that was played in the Little Champs League was followed by a formal post-match presentation, which meant that the Man of the Match award was given to the match winner. Also the best player from the losing team was felicitated by the Man of the Match, which was something unique but a great gesture.
Little Champs League is a serious cricket tournament where the boys play some intense cricket. Last year, four boys who played this tourney graduated to play for the Mumbai U-14 team, which is the biggest reward any aspiring Mumbai player would get at that age.
After the sweet success of last year, this year, Little Champs League has already garnered tremendous response, with 15 teams wanting to participate. However the organizers had to restrict the number to 10. The new teams are: Praveen Amre Cricket Academy Mahim Juvenile, Aditya Birla Cricket Academy, Sanjeevani Cricket Club Bandra, Shivaji Park Gymkhana and Aarey Bhaskar Club. This year there are 10 teams and each team will have 20 players. Rahul Dravid has extended his hand of support so we will get to see Jr. Dravid and his team from Banglore playing the League. New venues have been added to the existing list. They are Shivaji Park Gymkhana, Parsee Gymkhana, Aarey Bhaskar, Mahim Juvenile and Payyade Gymkhana.
This tournament is surely going to be the talk of the town as there will be a big number of matches that will played on good and competitive pitches, the match scores will be available online, the name of Top Players will be published and to top it all there will be a Fantasy League as well.
This tournament is organized by SportsLife Performance Managment Private Limited based in Mumbai. People associated with this tournament are Lashkariya Group and Venus Sports Academy, who have stood like a pillar last year as well. Other supporters are Swiss Wraps and Daddy’s Army Cricket Team.
