Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Reliance General Insurance posted a respectable 149-9 in 20 overs against VCC in Mumbai on 24th April during Friendship T20 Tournament. Middle order bat Anupam top scored with run a ball 30, hitting three boundaries. Ashwin (22), Prasad (21) and Robin (24) chipped in with the bat for Reliance. Ritesh was excellent with the ball as he picked up a five-wicket haul. He finished off with the figures of 5-26 in his four overs.
VCC had a disappointing day with the bat as they were bundled out for a paltry 90 in 19.2 overs, losing the match by 59 runs. Ashwin Pawar and Sarvesh complimented each other in the bowling depart, picking up couple of wickets apiece. Earlier in the day, Pawar had shined with the ball and then he was back in action with the ball. Vinod top scored with 21 runs off 16 balls.
Ashwin Pawar (22 runs off 22 balls and 2-9 in 3.2 overs) was awarded with the Man of the Match prize for his excellent all-round performance.
It was a nail biting contest at Azad Maidan, Mumbai on 16th April when Tata AIG locked horns against Learningmate in Dreamz T20 match. Batting first, Tata AIG posted a competitive total of 161-6 in 20 overs. Riding on Prashant Pawar’s (67 runs off 42 balls) batting heroics, Tata AIG managed to put a good show with the bat. Abhishek Kale (33 runs off 20 balls) and Sudesh Singh (23 runs off 18 balls) contributed with the willow for their team. Sanket, Mahesh and Kaushal bowled well in tandem and accounted for two scalps each.
Learningmate gave a tough fight but in the end fell shy of just six runs as they were restricted to 155-7 in 20 overs. Middle order bat Swapneel top scored with 48 runs but failed to take his team through. Nagesh Kadam was fantastic with the ball as he grabbed 4-27 in his four overs. Kadam was right on the money and asked many questions to the batsmen for which they had no answers.

Batting first, Reliance posted a challenging 153-10 in 20 overs against SOTC on 16th April at Fort Vijay, Mumbai in the Dreamz T20 match. Coming in at no.3, Mayuresh top scored with a quick fire 52 coming off just 32 balls. He stood like a pillar and the Reliance batting revolved around him. Mayuresh was a delight to watch. Riyaz, Rahil and Chetan picked up two wickets apiece.
In reply, SOTC was done and dusted for 123 in 19.4 overs, losing the match by 30 runs. Dnyaneshwar was the wrecker-in-chief as he finished off with the brilliant figures of 4-15 in his miserly spell of four overs. Rahul gave him good company, picking up 2-23 in his three overs. Opening bat Rahil played exceptionally well for his 55 off 47 deliveries but his efforts went in vain as the rest of the batting line-up failed to click as a unit.
Mayuresh (52 runs off 32 balls) was declared as the Man of the Match for his wonderful batting efforts.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Akumentis posted a daunting 375-7 in their full quota of 45 overs against Wockhardt on 23rd April at Navroz, Mumbai during the E-Merck Shield Cricket Tournament. Riding on opening bat Raju Samala’s (103 runs off 86 balls) fantastic century, Akumentis could manage to put up a huge score on board. Samala was aggressive in his intent, smacking six boundaries and a six in his delightful knock. Pradnesh Shinde (62 runs off 55 balls) and Ashish More (56 runs off 42 balls) too shined with the willow scoring half centuries. Wockhardt bowlers had a tough day and apart from Krishna Kumar (2-39 in 9 overs) none of the other bowlers looked penetrating.
In reply, Wockhardt was bundled out for a paltry 93 in 19.4 overs, losing the match by a huge margin of 282 runs. Aditya Nikam was the pick of the bowlers, picking up 4-25 in his six overs. After shinning with the bat, Raju Samala rolled his arm over to pick up 2-7 in his brief spell of three overs. Wockhardt had a disappointing day with the bat. Apart from opening bat, Krishna Kumar (32 runs off 27 balls), rest of the batting line-up showed no resistance and looked listless.

Rizvi Springfield locked horns against Albarkaat Malik English School at Sassanian Cricket Club, Mumbai, in the final match of Harris Shield organized by Mumbai School Sports Association, starting 19th April.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Rizvi was done and dusted for 210 in 72.1 overs. Harsh Tripathi was the ‘Wall’ for Rizvi as he scored a patient 32 off 126 balls. Tripathi was at the crease for a mammoth 159 minutes. Yashasvi Jaiswal (32 runs off 53 balls) and Shubham Varma (33 runs off 47 balls) were the other major contributors with the willow. Albarkaat’s bowling was led by Rajesh Sardar, who finished off with a five wicket haul. Rajesh had excellent figures of 29-14-68-5 in the first innings.
In reply, Albarkaat was bundled out for a paltry 163 in 63.4, thus lagging behind by 47 runs. Rehan Khan (37 runs off 94 balls) and Aasim Shaikh (30 runs off 70 balls) played well but failed to take the first innings lead for their team. Rizvi’s bowling attack was a disciplined one and was duly rewarded. Shreyans Bogar was the best bowler as he accounted for 7-56 in 27.4 overs, including 10 maidens.
In the second innings, Rizvi put up 159 runs on board in 43.5 overs, thus setting up a target of 206 runs for Albarkaat. Shoaib Siddique (56 runs off 80balls) scored a wonderful half century and contributed the lion’s share to Rizvi’s total. Meer Rizvi, an off-break bowler picked up 6-49 in 14.4 overs.
Albarkaat would have been more than happy with the way things went in the second innings. Faiz Rathod (50 runs off 99 balls) and Altamash Khan (36 runs off 84 balls) looked in good touch and the hopes of winning started mounting in Albarkaat’s dressing room. At one stage, Albarkaat needed 38 runs to win with one wicket in hand. The pressure got to them as they fell short of 17 runs. Shreyans Bogar was back in action with the ball picking up 4-78 in 28 overs, with Yashasvi Jaiswal grabbing 4-43 in 15 overs.

Brad Murphy an ex Kolkata Knight Riders’ assistant coach from Australia conducted a fielding and wicket keeping session.
Close to 40 kids were enriched by the sessions and picked up really useful drills and skills. The session was held at Don Bosco cricket ground, Matunga and Brad was assisted by 4 young Australian cricketers.
Automotive Cricket Club locked horns against MET Sports Club on 16th April in the grand final of Milan Mega Corporate T20 tournament at Cross Maidan, Mumbai. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Automotive posted a challenging total of 155-9 in their full quota of 20 overs. It was a fantastic batting effort by the full team as all the players chipped with small but useful contributions. Opening bat Sachin top scored with 21 runs off 19 balls, smacking three boundaries. Aniket was the pick of the bowlers for MET, grabbing 3-25 in his three overs.
It was a nail biting finish to the final as MET played extremely well to put up 149-9 in 20 overs, falling short by just 6 runs. Opening bat Harish (38 runs off 33 balls) and middle order bat Vinit (30 not out off 19 balls) were the star performers with the bat, but they failed to take their team through. Laxman, Chetan and Apurva bowled well in tandem to account for two scalps each. Laxman (20 runs off 12 balls), who had earlier played his part with the bat, was in action with the ball, helping his team to clinch the Milan Mega Corporate T20 trophy.
Laxman (20 runs off 12 balls and 2-24 in 4 overs) was awarded with the Man of the Match prize for his brilliant all-round efforts. Dipesh Golam and Rakesh Kamble were declared as the Best Batsman and Best Bowler of the tournament respectively.
Omni marines had a disappointing day with the bat as they were bundled out for a paltry 73 in 17.4 overs against Mahindra Logistics on 9th April at Shivaji Park, Mumbai during the Kurukshetra T20 Cricket Tournament. Apart from Rupesh Popeta (21 runs off 23 balls) and Raj Chaugule (19 runs off 22 balls), rest of the Omni Marines’ batting looked listless. Ashutosh Ghagre and Ketan Kharat were brilliant with the ball, picking up three wickets apiece. Kharat was a miser in giving away runs as he allowed just nine runs off him. He bowled in the right areas, not allowing the batsmen to take him on.
Though the target of 74 does not seem to be a steep one, Omni Marines did not lose hope. They bowled well to grab seven wickets of Mahindra Logistics. Mahindra chased down the target in 12.4 overs, winning the match by three wickets. Coming in at no.3, Chetan Chaudhari steadied the batting ship of Mahindra with a good knock of 22 runs coming off just 18 balls. He hit one boundary and one six in his innings. Anand Kumbhar (17 runs off 18 balls), Ashutosh Ghagre (11 not out off 11 balls) and Narayan Sawant (10 runs off 6 balls) ensured that their team was safe. Jawad Sheikh was the wrecker-in-chief as he finished off with excellent figures of 4-17 in his 3.4 overs.
Ketan Kharat (3-9 in 4 overs) was declared as the Man of the Match for his brilliant bowling display.
2nd edition of Friendship T20 Trophy started on a good note for host Friends Cricket Club and Datamatics team. Both these teams are well placed towards the Semi’s. FCC are at top place in Group-B with 4 points in the pocket winning two consecutive matches. Datamatics are at top place in Group-A with 2 points since they played and won one match till now.

In Group-A, still many group matches are balance, so it’s difficult at this stage to say about who will qualify for Semi’s. However in Group-B, the situation is quite interesting. The fight to qualify for Semi’s is majorly between CCD, SHM and FCC. All these three teams are looking forward to play their last league match. For CCD & SHM it will be a Do or Die match to stay in tournament. To keep at top of the table FCC also must be ready with their game plans.

To quench the thirst of cricket in the wake of Mumbai’s summer heat, Yuva Premiere League (YPL) has made its way to the middle, starting 22nd April. The YPL follows the IPL model when it comes to the auctioning of players and their retention. Every team is given a corpus of Rs.10 crore (virtual money) which is used to buy players. There is a systematic bidding that takes place for every player and the team that bids the highest gets the player. YPL was a big hit last year. This year there are eight teams that will be locking horns against each other to win the coveted YPL title. Here is a quick insight into the teams of YPL:
Badshah: Amit Jain is one of the owners of the team. This year they have retained one of the best performers of last season, Aditya Dagga. Dagga was bought for Rs.30 lakhs last year and this year he was worth Rs.35 lakhs. The other players to watch out for in Badshah are Aniket Patil and Sahyog. Patil is a genuine all-rounder who is purchased for a whopping Rs.2.7 crore, while Sahyog, a right arm medium pace bowler was valued at Rs.1.7 crore. This year the team would like to play to their strengths, which means that they will make full use of their fast bowlers, who will generate lot of pace and bounce from the wicket. “Khiladi is the team that can give us a tough competition, says Amit Jain.
Baazigar: Rohit Agarwal is the happy owner of the winning team of the last year; Baazigar. “This year as well we have a balanced team and we hope to defend our YPL title”, averred Rohit. Mohit Padwal and Shubham Tare, both of them being fantastic all-rounders were retained for a combined sum of Rs.2.8 crore. Rishabh Talwar, who is the new addition to the Baazigar outfit will be a player to watch out for. Talwar is quick with the ball and more than decent with the bat. “We have done our home-work well and have studied each player carefully”, added Agarwal.
Dabbangg: Finishing off at no.3 position last year, Dabbangg owner Girish Ahuja is confident of his team’s performance ahead of this year’s YPL. Pallav Bansal and Mishra ji are the two players that have been retained by the team for a decent amount of Rs.30 lakhs and Rs.40 lakhs respectively. Both these players are medium pace bowlers. Saurabh Gupta, who was the Man of the Series last year, will serve Dabbangg this year. Gupta, who is worth a mammoth sum of Rs.2.8 crore, is a perfect all-rounder that any team would like to have. He picked up 10 wickets and scored tons of runs last season.
“This year we have made a strategic auction, keeping in mind team composition, which will help us to perform better”, reiterated Girish Ahuja, one of the owners of team.
Sikanders: Mr.Avadhani is one of the owners of the team. Sikanders have retained two players; Kashyap, all-rounder and Amogh, a left arm medium pace bowlers. Both these players were retained at a combined cost of Rs.3.2 crore. “The other teams need to watch for Rajeev, who is a southpaw and Paresh, a right hand batsman, who if gets going can tear apart any bowling attack”, said Avadhani. According to the owner, last year champions; Baazigar is the toughest team to beat.
Khiladis: “Our team is a fresh looking one as we have not retained any of the players, instead, the three of us, who are the owners of Khiladis will be on the field to play”, exclaimed Rajesh Ahuja, one of the owners. Milind and Daniel are the two players to watch out for. They are genuine all-rounders and match winners in true sense. Milind was bought for Rs.1.6 crore, while Daniel, who is the most expensive player in the team was purchased at a daunting amount of Rs.1.7 crore. The winners of YPL 2014, Khiladis will look to come out all guns blazing in this year’s YPL.
