Jalal Shaikh is the head coach of Nerul Gymkhana Cricket Academy, New Bombay and has also being trained in Level O and Level 1 coaching of MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) and NCA (National Cricket Academy). He also conducts summer camps under the aegis of MCA for U-14, U-16, U-17 and U-19 boys. He has a done MCA Summer Camp from last 8 years. And now he has a Observer.
Various players have scaled greater heights, courtesy Jalal’s solid cricket coaching ability. Pratik Desai played Ranji Trophy for Maharashtra, Amit Kadam played at U-14, U-16 and U-19 levels for Mumbai, Jahangir Ansari played for Mumbai at U-14 and U-16 and Malcom Montories who was a part of Maharashtra’s U-16, U-19, U-23 finds himself in the Ranji team probables.
Jalal has been an opening batsman and an off spinner, since last 38 years he has been playing good cricket. He has represented his school Chabildas High School, Mumbai at Harris and Giles Shield levels. Later he played for Siddharth College, followed by All India University level cricket for Mumbai University in 1984. He has played loads of ‘A’ Division matches for different clubs of Mumbai; National Cricket Club, Parsee Cyclist Cricket Club, Islam Gymkhana, Parsee Gymkhana, Worli Cricket Club and Star Cricket Club. He was in the probables of Mumbai team and has played district level cricket from Raigad in the year 1982. For the last 24 years, Shaikh has been playing Times Shield for Dharamsi Morarji and Dena Bank in ‘B’ Division.
His outstanding bowling and batting efforts have been recognized several times in his cricketing career. He was awarded as the Best Bowler and Best Batsman in one of the Times Shield tournaments, Mayor’s award from the first citizen of New Bombay. Jalal has not only showcased his cricketing talent in India, but also overseas in countries like United Kingdom and Nepal.
Jalal has been an inspiring personality and has been the role model for many young and budding cricketers of Mumbai.

Amit Jadhav is the Head coach at Dilip Vengsarkar Academy, CPCC, Navi Mumbai Police Cricket, Ghatkopar Jolly Gymkhana, Cricket India Academy and Indoor Cricket Academy, BKC, Mumbai. He is a certified coach and has successfully completed Level A course Conducted by BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). Jadhav has also done a Cricket India Academy course of Australia.
He has been the Head coach at CPCC for two years for U-14 and U-16 boys. Also Jadhav was the coach for a year at Cricket India Academy. He was an integral part of MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) summer camps at U-16 level for five years and U-19 level for a year.
He has also extended his coaching for MCA selection tournaments such as Varroc Cup U-14, Payyade Trophy U-16 and Sportstar U-19. At present, he is coaching at Vengsarkar Academy. He has been a part of the academy for the last eight years. Amit has also trained Mumbai U-19 boys and New Bombay Police cricket team.
“I enjoy coaching young talent. Honing their batting, bowling and fielding skills is a part of my job”, explains Amit Jadhav.
His efforts have paid off brilliantly which is evident from the fact that his team has won the Varroc Cup, Payyade Trophy, as well as CPCC tournament (won by Vengsarkar Cricket Academy). The Police cricket team saw itself going up the ladder and now falls in D division of Times Shield. His students; Sachin Katkar, Aditya Mandre, Jahangir Ansari, Rohit Kambli and Aryan Malik have reached better levels in cricket.
As a player, Amit used to be a right hand middle order batsmen, slow bowler and an electrifying fielder.
He started playing the sport since 1990 when he was just 12 years of age. He represented his school IES Matunga for two years, later he played for D.G.Ruparel College and won the Best Cricketer of the year award in 1994. After his college, he got the opportunity to participate in Times Shield. He played for Sungrace Mafatlal (A division) and then for Akbar Travels (the team moved from C division to A division) for five years. Not only in Mumbai, but also in Goa, Amit Jadhav made his mark by playing Salgaonkar Trophy for three years. When he started working, he played the Bank Shield, representing IDBI Bank. He won Man of the Match and Best Batsman award multiple times in five years from 2000 to 2005.
Amit was active when it came to club level cricket. He was a part of several clubs like New Hind, Apollo CC, Star CC, Victory CC and PJ Hindu Gymkhana. Currently he is playing for John Bright CC. Jadhav has left an impression in Kanga League as well by bagging the highest run getter award twice.
Amit Jadhav has not only been a great player on the field but also a wonderful coach for the young and budding talent of Mumbai. Let’s hope that he continues his valuable service to the sport. Jwala Singh, who has been given the mandate to form a cricket team to represent a team from India has already shortlisted 7-8 world class cricketers throughout India and now seeks 3 more players from Mumbai.

Having topped at the MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) Level O Coaching exam in 2016, Rajiv Mehra, is one of the youngest to have got the coveted opportunities to coach the Mumbai U-16 Probables. Rajiv has worked with Bhavana Sports and Cricket academy, Chembur and Pacers’ Academy, Churchgate.
The 28 year old is a right hand batsman and right arm leg spinner. Mehra had represented Mumbai U-22. Currently he is playing for Jain Irrigation System Ltd. in ‘A’ division of Times Shield and Victory Cricket Club in ‘A’ division of Kanga League. For the last eight years, Rajiv has consistently been the second highest run scorer in Kanga League in the year 2013. In addition to this, to hone his leg spinning skills, he attended All-India leg spinners’ camp at CCI in 2004.
He is also a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) from American College for Sports Medicine (ACSM). He has also conducted off-season training camp for kids, the primary focus being fitness, strength and skills. Mehra adds value to his coaching by undertaking mental training activities and discussing about former Mumbai cricketers and the beautiful history of Mumbai cricket. Under his able guidance, Maneet Panchal has been selected in Mumbai U-14 probables.
Rajiv Mehra has another feather to his cap; he has done a TV show with former English captain Paul Collingwood on Neo Sports. Apart from cricketers, he also trains National level Table Tennis players for physical fitness in SantaCruz, Mumbai.
What does a cricketer do in off season – especially when its raining everywhere with grounds covered with mud and water ? Few may think of relaxing completely for the entire off season or joining a local gym.
This young and budding woman cricketer has already made her way to the probables list of one of the most coveted cricket teams of India; Mumbai. Born on 25th January 2005, Palak Pratik Dharamshi is just 11 years old and has been selected for the U-16 Probables of MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association). She is a bowling all-rounder; a right arm medium pace bowler and a middle order batswoman. She is one of the youngest players among the 20 probables that are selected from across Thane, Mumbai as well as Palghar and Dahanu.
This girl from Mulund has been coached in Pravin Tambe Cricket Academy since the last
two years, an academy started by Pravin Tambe, a veteran leg spinner, who came into limelight for his fabulous performance in IPL for Rajasthan Royals. Apart from Tambe, Nitin Madhvi, Nilesh and Sandeep have been the others behind the success of this youngster.
In the month of May, Palak was selected to play for MCA during a summer camp. Every Saturday and Sunday, the off season camp is conducted under the able guidance of Sanjay Gaitonde and Sangeeta Kamat at MCA Academy, Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai. Pratik Dharamshi, Palak’s father, says, “Palak is an extremely hard working girl and her efforts have paid off. She used to attend the summer camp at 7am in Shivaji Park, Dadar, Mumbai and after some extensive practice sessions, she would play matches”.
Currently Palak is studying in the sixth grade in Shri Shri Ravishankar Vidyamandir School Mulund, Mumbai. She has many years to hone her skills and make her mark in the field of cricket. Pralhad Nakhwa is one of the eminent personalities in Thane, when it comes to cricket and his sheer love for the sport. Pralhad played cricket at club level and corporate level for many years and has many fond memories.
He represented Bank of India for 14 years, and served the bank till 2008. He also played for Bharat Cricket Club, Shivaji Park for as long as 25 years. Apart from these, Pralhad formed an integral part of Koli Combined Cricket XI for 12 years and Sporting Club Committee, Thane for another 15 years. Nakhwa was an opening batsman and a safe wicket-keeper during his playing days.
Once he hung his boots, Nakhwa accepted different responsibilities and strived to develop the sport in and around Thane. He was the President of Bharat Cricket Club for four years, Jt. Hon. Secretary of Koli Combined Cricket XI for a decade, co-organizer of Thane Vaibhav Inter-Office Cricket Tournament for 14 years and Managing Committee member of Shri Anand Bharat Vyayamshala, Thane for 20 years. Pralhad has many feathers to his cricketing hat and has made useful contributions to the sport.
Where there is cricket, there is media. Pralhad did not leave any stone unturned as he tried his hand at reporting as well. He worked as a freelance reporter for 25 years. Also he was the Press Box in-charge of six Ranji Trophy games that were played at Dadoji Konddev Stadium, Thane. He was a part of the team of Asmita Vahini during 2011 World Cup which was won by India.
Pralhad Nakhwa has donned different roles at different stages of life and is indeed one of the finest examples to emulate for all those who love the game of cricket.
