In an A division match between National Cricket Club (NCC) against the Greater Mumbai Police Sports Club (GMPSC) in the ongoing Kanga Cricket Tournament, the spectators witnessed highlight of fall of wickets.

Pushkaraj Chavan the left arm orthodox spinner ran havoc in the batting order of GMPSC, picking up 7 wickets.

The first victim was Sunil Patil who was batting sensibly but gave a return catch while driving to Pushkaraj Chavan and from that point on, there was no turning back for him. “Since I picked up the first wicket on the second ball of my first over, it gave me a lot of confidence in the beginning itself. The wicket was slightly damp which also helped my bowling” said Pushkaraj while speaking to CricketGraph

Pushkaraj was scheduled to bowl a bit later in the day since the fast bowlers too were bowling well however a last minute decision by skipper Omkar resulted in the ball being thrown to Pushkaraj and the rest is history.

He bowled 11 overs giving away only 20 runs and bowling unbelievable 6 maiden overs.

“Out of all the 7 wickets, my favorite were 2 wickets which were caught in the gully. The best part was both the batsmen played a solid defense shot but still the ball caught the outside edge”

The match was ended in a draw but it ensured good compilation of wickets in both teams.

Santosh Shinde the opening swing bowler from GMPSC too picked up 6 wickets of NCC. His favorite wicket was that of hitting the middle stump of Arun Yadav with a deadly in swinger.

M.C.A (www.mumbaicricket.com) regularly conducts Scoring exams for aspiring scorers which are later absorbed by the M.C.A for their matches. This piece of write up is an effort to help aspiring scorers have a closer look at the over all process. People turning up for the scoring and umpiring exams are usually those who wish to stay close to the game.
The latest scoring classes were conducted by M.C.A around 20th June 2016 at the Wankhade Stadium wherein the first day saw almost 130 participants attend the class. The numbers however declined over the course of time. The scoring exam form is charged a meagerly Rs.260/- and the lectures are conducted over 10 days from Mon- Friday from 6 PM – 8.30 PM. Topics covered in the lectures include rules, laws or cricket, scoring method (box and linear method), difficulties faced by scorers etc.
The scoring exam is split into theory and practical both of 50 marks each. Practical exam for scorers gets interesting wherein the panel does a running commentary of any random game and each scorer is asked to record it on the scoresheets. Students scoring above 80% are marked as passed and others would have to re-appear. And btw- 80% attendance is mandatory, so it cannot be taken lightly and it helps to filter out students serious about scoring.
If the student is marked as passed, he or she would get a call from the M.C.A office to check on the availability for local matches. For the initial matches, the students are accompanied by senior scorers and gradually they are asked to score on their own.
The M.C.A website has published the list of scorers on their website. These scorers appeared in the June 2016 batch. – http://mumbaicricket.com/mca/news.php?PageIndex=1084

After years of persistence and hard work, Modern English School, Chembur, will finally play its first ever leather ball cricket tournament this year, thanks to Subramaniam (fondly called as Subbu), former student of the school and now a full time cricket coach. “Since the time I was a student of Modern English School, it was always my dream to see my Alma mater competing in a leather ball cricket tournament”, averred Subbu. Though a little late in the day, Subbu has made his dream a reality and now his school will participate first in the DSO (District Sports Office) Cricket Tournament that is played by a large number of schools in Mumbai followed by Giles Shield.

Subbu who is the coach of the team is excited and rearing to see the school represent the tournaments at U-14 and U-16 level. The selection has already been done and a bunch of 30 boys is selected; 15 each for U-14 and U-16. CIWA ground hosted the selection trials, and Subbu along with Ashok Kadam finalized the squads. The players also got a chance to interact with Pravin Tambe, one of the most talked about bowlers from the IPL, when he rendered a motivational speech.

The training sessions begin in the first week of October. The energy in the Modern English School camp is at the highest peak and the players are ready to play some serious cricket. “My aim is to develop a very good cricket team at the competitive level”, added Subbu.

Subbu’s love for cricket and ofcourse his Alma mater can be clearly seen from the tremendous efforts that he has put in to get the school boys together to play professional cricket. The cherry on the cake is Subbu has received strong support from Kalyana Sundaram, the President of the school, who took over the reins just a couple of years back. Sundaram said, “The school was not much into sports before, but now since we have Subbu by our side, we are participating in cricket tournaments. I believe that sports is an essential part of curriculum as it helps develop leadership qualities among the students”.

Cricketgraph.com wishes Subbu and Modern English School all the very best for their debut tournament.
