The PJ Hindu Gymkhana at Marine Lines witnessed a wonderful match between Dadar Union Sporting Club and P.J Hindu Gymkhana. The pitch was slight tilted in favor of the bowlers and that made P.J Hindu team to field first after winning the toss. The match was settled for 42 overs per side as the game was halted in between due to wet pitch.

Dadar Union followed one simple strategy and that was to counter attack and not allow the bowlers to take any batsman for granted. Skipper Akshay Darekar(63) and Sairaj Patil(57) were good with the bat chipping in with crucial half centuries. However, the man of the moment was Bhupen Lalwani who scored a match winning century. Right handed aggressive opener Bhupen scored an aggressive 117 off just 115 balls which was laced with 12 amazing boundaries & 2 big sixes. It was Bhupen’s 117 which set the tone for Dadar to make a big score of 302/9 in 43 overs.

Chasing 303 in 42 overs, PJ Hindu Gymkhana were off to a good start but could not capitalize their good start till the end as they were all out in just 37.5 overs. V Bhillare(53) and Gabbawala(48) kept the hopes alive but the team faltered after these two players lost wickets. Right arm leg spinner Khizar did his job with the ball which Bhupen did with the bat. Khizar Dafedar destroyed the batting line up taking a magical 6/33 for his side.

PJ Hindu Gymkhana were all out for 243 runs and Dadar Union won the match by 59 runs. Khizar Dafedar and Bhupen lalwani were adjudged man of the match for their respective heroics and Dadar Union will move ahead in the tournament with a lot of confidence.

It was a competitive encounter between two exciting teams namely United CC and Evergreen Sports club at Mumbai Police Gymkhana cricket ground (Marine Lines). Winning the toss, Evergreen elected to bat first with an aim of capitalizing and making a decent score in 25 overs.

Evergreen Sports club scored 108/6 in 25 overs. The opposition bowlers performed well with the ball not allowing the batsman to score freely. Right arm medium pacer Siddharth Kevat (2/13) and Prithvi Salian(2/25) were excellent with the ball taking 2 wickets each. It was a low scoring match as the pitch was tricky for the batsman to score. Chasing 108, it was an easy chase for the opposition as they won the match comfortably by 5 wickets.

United lost three quick wickets but it was their right handed aggressive batsman Pratham Sid who scored a match defining 35 off just 36 balls taking his team out of trouble. Pratham smashed 5 fours and was responsible to bring back the positive momentum for United CC. United completed the chase in just 20 overs though they were under pressure at the start when they lost quick wickets within the first 5 overs.

Head Coach Mr. Subramaniam sir , Ashok sir & assistant coach Gaurav Kurkute of Achievers cricket academy must be proud seeing their boys perform so well. All in all it was a good day for United CC and Pratham Sid was adjudged ‘man of the match’ for his match saving cameo.

What a wonderful start for Team Akumentis in Thane Vaibhav Inter Office Cricket Tournament. It was the 1st match of the tournament between Akumentis and Mukund in Central Maidan Cricket Ground, Thane. Akumentis were fielding first with an aim of restricting them under 220 in 35 overs.

They succeeded in their quest as Mukund scored 205 in 35 overs. Ashish from Mukund was the pick of the batsman scoring a good 92. The bowlers did a great job and especially Raju Shamla who took 2/30 with his brilliant bowling. Chasing a target at almost 6 runs per over is not that easy but it’s not impossible either. Team Akumentis showed what they are capable of winning the match by 9 wickets and 9.4 overs to spare. Once again it was Raju Shamla contributing with the bat too. Opener Raju and Rohit More stitched a match winning partnership of 196 runs which sealed the match for Mukund. Raju Shamla scored a devastating 82 ball 115 laced with 13 boundaries and 3 glorious sixes.

Raju Shamla was adjudged ‘man of the match’ for his exceptional all round performance. Peelu sir who has been umpiring since last 50 years swears by the fact that “Thane Vaibhav’ is one of the most disciplined tournaments he has seen n his career.

The match was won by Akumentis effortlessly and special guests like Tournament editor Milind Bhallal & Nikhil Bhallal, Vikas Sonadkar,  Rajendra Mayekar, Thane Bhushan’s  Sadanand Bhise & Krishnakumar Koli,  Pradeep paranjape, Vijay Koli and Mukund Sathdhare were there to enjoy the first match of the tournament. We are sure they must have enjoyed the game too.

Team Akumentis is certainly off to a good start in the tournament & they will be a team to watch out for in the coming matches.

Musheer Khan , son of Naushad Khan and younger brother of Sarfaraz Khan (from the RCB team) is poised for a triple century! He is currently at 240* playing for Mumbai Cricket Association against Baroda Cricket association.

This is Mumbai’s first match in the ongoing West Zone Under 14 cricket tournament.

Musheer Khan has so far played a sensible knock scoring only in fours , as many as 32 fours.

Mumbai team is safely placed at 486/2 on end of day one.

It would be interesting to see if Musheer Khan goes on to score triple century.

It was the crucial knockout match between Worli sports club and Palghar Dahanu Taluka in the Padmakar Talim Shield Cricket Tournament. It was a tricky pitch with some dew as well as some dry grass keeping both the teams guessing. However, Palghar team had won the toss and elected to field first making the most of the dew and restricting Worli sports club to a low total.

Batting first, Worli did some exceptional batting to score 359/7 in 45 overs. Skipper Kunal Mathure (who has also represented team Mumbai) scored 78 along with Nikhil Jadhav and Harshad Terwankar scoring 73 and 45* respectively. However, the man of the moment for Worli was their right handed opener Viraj Gamare who has made the opening slot his own. Viraj kept the scorecard ticking right from the first ball and scored a brilliant stroke laden 85 off just 70 balls. Gamare smashed 2 big sixes and 7 boundaries out of which backfoot cover drive was his favorite. Viraj did get a life where he was saved from a easy run-out. Gamare dominated the spinners and was quite comfortable against them in his 70 ball stay.

Chasing 360 in 45 overs is very very tough and especially against a solid bowling line up of Worli. Palghar team managed to reach only 264/8 in 45 overs and Worli won the match by 113 runs. Right handed Utkarsh from Palghar played a gem of a knock (107*) but he hardly got any support from the rest of the batsman. Right arm medium pacer Abhishek hatkar was excellent with the ball and maintained great line and length. He was the pick of the bowlers along with Sumit and Harshad terwankar who also chipped in with 2 wickets each.

It was a great team perfomance and Viraj Gamare was adjudged “man of the match” for his aggressive 85 at the top of the order. Their next match is against the powerful Shivaji Park Gymkhana and they will hope to carry their positive momentum against them.

It was a head to head encounter between two equally strong teams at the DY Patil stadium namely Reliance vs D.Y Patil ‘B’ Both the teams are considered to be strong because both the teams are blessed to have national level and IPL level players in their side.

D.Y Patil ‘B’ elected to field first after winning the toss. They wanted to restrict the opposition to a low score and chase the target as the pitch was decent for batting. However, Reliance posted a very competitive total of 176/5 in 20 overs. T20 specialist Pravin Tambe was again the pick of the bowlers taking 2/20 in 4 overs. Reliance lost their openers early but the middle order did a very good batting to take their team to a decent score. Left-handed Rishabh Pant who has already developed quite a reputation as a clean and hard hitter once again showed his batting prowess smashing a half century off just 23 balls. Rishabh smashed 5 glorious boundaries and 4 clean sixes which lifted the team’s run rate manifold. Yogesh Nagar was also very good with the bat scoring 53 off 36 balls.

Chasing 177, it was a bad day in the office for

D.Y Patil ‘B’ as they were all out for just 102 runs. Kulwant singh and Yuzvendra chahal destroyed the batting line up of D.Y with 7 wickets together. Chahal who has already made his presence felt at the national level and in the IPL showed what he can do with the ball. Yuzi took 4/13 with his legbreak googlies and did not allow the opposition batsman to settle.

Reliance 1 won the match by 74 runs and they will be moving ahead in the tournament with a lot of confidence and positive momentum by their side.

What is this boy up to & what does he eat daily? 4 double centuries in the same tournament, one should surely have an insane amount of talent to achieve this feat. Ved’s hunger for runs is just not getting over. In fact it’s just increasing and increasing day by day. In no time this 14 year old kid is creating waves in the cricketing circles with such a dream run of batting in the Giles Shield tournament.

Though Ved is yet to verify this but we are damn sure this is going to be a world record (scoring 4 double hundreds in one single tournament) also (scoring 4 double hundred within a span of just 2 months) & (facing maximum number of balls in the tournament)

A quick 172, 209 off 117, 224* off 252 balls, 214 off 198 and 236 off 264 are the series of his scores and please don’t get shocked, this is true. This time the victim of Ved’s magical batting was Rizvi Springfield where the talented right hander was super composed and looked like a boss while batting. Hardly did any bowler was able to inflict any trouble and Ved showed his mettle and class all over again with a well crafted 236 off just 264 balls. This knock was more rigorous compared to his earlier ones and he did a lot of hard work as he smashed only 27 fours and scored rest of the runs toiling hard between the wickets & Yeah this double hundred was against a very tough opponent(Rizvi) who have a strong bowling attack too.

It was because of Ved’s marathon innings, IES VN sule team won the match against a strong opponent like Rizvi Springfield by 37 runs. Vedprakash is creating ripples in the cricketing world and he has certainly slotted himself into the big league names (young talents to look out for in the coming future) of cricket at such a small age. It is just a matter of time we will get to see him soon in the Indian colors if he keeps his form and fitness consistent as and when he grows up.

It was an exciting knockout match between Sankalpan and SSA Strikers in the AT20 tournament. The wicket of vengsarkar cricket ground at mahul, was slow and Sankalpan wanted to bowl first to make the most of the slow pitch and get a low score to chase.

Luckily things went their way as SS Strikers batted first after winning the toss. Things weren’t as hunky dory for Strikers as they were all out for just 122/7 in 20 overs. The openers of SSA lost their wickets early and so did the rest of the batsman who came and scored 20’s but could not covert their starts into substantial scores. Ronith Ramesh bowled well for his 2/21(4) and so did N pophale and Antapurkar who took a wicket each. Samrat was also economical with the ball giving away just 22 runs in 4 overs.

Samrat Nakhwa (Sankalpan Team) Man of the match 50 runs in 45 balls 7 fours

Chasing 123, it was almost a cakewalk for Sankalpan. Openers Samrat Nakwa and J mistry gave a good start to develop the positive momentum. Though Mistry lost his wicket at 18, solid opener Samrat Nakhwa scored a brilliant 50 off just 45 balls to take his team to a comfortable victory. Samrat scored runs freely in all the parts of the ground and smashed 7 classy boundaries in his 45 ball stay in the crease.  Sankalpan finished of the chase comfortably in just 19 overs and 7 wickets to spare with Ronith finishing the remaining work for Sankalpan scoring an unbeaten 21.

Opener Samrat’s 45 ball 50 set the tone for a comfortable victory for his team and he was rightly adjudged man of the match for his great performance. We certainly wish Samrat’s good form continues in the tournament and takes Sankalpan towards lifting the trophy.
