It was a head to head encounter between two equally strong teams at the DY Patil stadium namely Reliance vs D.Y Patil ‘B’ Both the teams are considered to be strong because both the teams are blessed to have national level and IPL level players in their side.

D.Y Patil ‘B’ elected to field first after winning the toss. They wanted to restrict the opposition to a low score and chase the target as the pitch was decent for batting. However, Reliance posted a very competitive total of 176/5 in 20 overs. T20 specialist Pravin Tambe was again the pick of the bowlers taking 2/20 in 4 overs. Reliance lost their openers early but the middle order did a very good batting to take their team to a decent score. Left-handed Rishabh Pant who has already developed quite a reputation as a clean and hard hitter once again showed his batting prowess smashing a half century off just 23 balls. Rishabh smashed 5 glorious boundaries and 4 clean sixes which lifted the team’s run rate manifold. Yogesh Nagar was also very good with the bat scoring 53 off 36 balls.

Chasing 177, it was a bad day in the office for

D.Y Patil ‘B’ as they were all out for just 102 runs. Kulwant singh and Yuzvendra chahal destroyed the batting line up of D.Y with 7 wickets together. Chahal who has already made his presence felt at the national level and in the IPL showed what he can do with the ball. Yuzi took 4/13 with his legbreak googlies and did not allow the opposition batsman to settle.

Reliance 1 won the match by 74 runs and they will be moving ahead in the tournament with a lot of confidence and positive momentum by their side.

What is this boy up to & what does he eat daily? 4 double centuries in the same tournament, one should surely have an insane amount of talent to achieve this feat. Ved’s hunger for runs is just not getting over. In fact it’s just increasing and increasing day by day. In no time this 14 year old kid is creating waves in the cricketing circles with such a dream run of batting in the Giles Shield tournament.

Though Ved is yet to verify this but we are damn sure this is going to be a world record (scoring 4 double hundreds in one single tournament) also (scoring 4 double hundred within a span of just 2 months) & (facing maximum number of balls in the tournament)

A quick 172, 209 off 117, 224* off 252 balls, 214 off 198 and 236 off 264 are the series of his scores and please don’t get shocked, this is true. This time the victim of Ved’s magical batting was Rizvi Springfield where the talented right hander was super composed and looked like a boss while batting. Hardly did any bowler was able to inflict any trouble and Ved showed his mettle and class all over again with a well crafted 236 off just 264 balls. This knock was more rigorous compared to his earlier ones and he did a lot of hard work as he smashed only 27 fours and scored rest of the runs toiling hard between the wickets & Yeah this double hundred was against a very tough opponent(Rizvi) who have a strong bowling attack too.

It was because of Ved’s marathon innings, IES VN sule team won the match against a strong opponent like Rizvi Springfield by 37 runs. Vedprakash is creating ripples in the cricketing world and he has certainly slotted himself into the big league names (young talents to look out for in the coming future) of cricket at such a small age. It is just a matter of time we will get to see him soon in the Indian colors if he keeps his form and fitness consistent as and when he grows up.

It was an exciting knockout match between Sankalpan and SSA Strikers in the AT20 tournament. The wicket of vengsarkar cricket ground at mahul, was slow and Sankalpan wanted to bowl first to make the most of the slow pitch and get a low score to chase.

Luckily things went their way as SS Strikers batted first after winning the toss. Things weren’t as hunky dory for Strikers as they were all out for just 122/7 in 20 overs. The openers of SSA lost their wickets early and so did the rest of the batsman who came and scored 20’s but could not covert their starts into substantial scores. Ronith Ramesh bowled well for his 2/21(4) and so did N pophale and Antapurkar who took a wicket each. Samrat was also economical with the ball giving away just 22 runs in 4 overs.

Chasing 123, it was almost a cakewalk for Sankalpan. Openers Samrat Nakwa and J mistry gave a good start to develop the positive momentum. Though Mistry lost his wicket at 18, solid opener Samrat Nakhwa scored a brilliant 50 off just 45 balls to take his team to a comfortable victory. Samrat scored runs freely in all the parts of the ground and smashed 7 classy boundaries in his 45 ball stay in the crease.  Sankalpan finished of the chase comfortably in just 19 overs and 7 wickets to spare with Ronith finishing the remaining work for Sankalpan scoring an unbeaten 21.

Opener Samrat’s 45 ball 50 set the tone for a comfortable victory for his team and he was rightly adjudged man of the match for his great performance. We certainly wish Samrat’s good form continues in the tournament and takes Sankalpan towards lifting the trophy.

It was the all important quarter final match between BPCL and CAG of the 13th DY patil Cup Tournament. The match was equally crucial for both the teams as a win would take them ahead into the semis. BPCL Captain Bhavin Thakkar who found due in the pitch elected to bowl first as it would help the bowlers and they could chase the target comfortably in the 2nd innings.

CAG team made 140/7 in 20 overs, thanks to some good bowling by BPCL bowlers, none of the batsman were able to cross the 40 run mark & eventually partnerships were not created either. National player Pragyan Ojha bowled wonderfully well for his 2/14 in 4 overs. IPL star Sandeep Sharma was also in the side bowling 0/30 in 3 overs while Dhanraj Sharma & Rishi Arothe both chipped in with 2 wickets each.

Chasing 141, BPCL were also in a tricky situation at 69/5 until right handed Rahul tripathi came and finished off the game in style. Rahul scored a brilliant 53 off just 36 balls to steer his team to 141/5 and winning the match by 5wickets. Tripathi’s brazen half century included 4 fours and 3 sixes and he played at a strike rate of almost 150 all the time. Yes, this is the same Rahul Tripathi who recently smashed a record six sixes in six balls & scored 47 runs off 14 balls for Deccan Gymkhana has certainly become a dangerous prospect with the bat & he looks like a complete IPL or Big Bash material for sure.

BPCL won the match comfortably by 5 wickets and 3balls to spare & Rahul was rightly adjudged “man of the match” for his match winning unbeaten half century. Rahul & the whole team would surely be all prepped up for their semis for sure!

It was an exciting league match at Oval Maidan between two equally competitive teams i.e Lintas vs DSP Blackrock in the Milan T20 tournament. DSP elected to field first after winning the toss as chasing (low or moderate score) on a wet track would give them an advantage(as the pitch would dry a little later on)

While skipper Nakul and Vaibhav tyagi fell early, it was the aggressive right handed opener Varun Sabharwal who sailed the boat ahead. The aggressive opener smashed a quickfire and a mature knock of 73 coming off just 63 balls. Varun who is a free-flowing batsman kept his calm till the first half of the innings but soon opened his arms after 10 overs. His 73 included 8 boundaries and most of them were smashed in the later part of his innings. As skipper Nakul shared with Cricketgraph “Varun has been a consistent performer, we always give him the license to play freely, varun would be relieved himself to finally convert his good 30’s and 40’s into a good score after quite a few matches”

Lintas managed to score 144 /5 in 20 overs, DSP Blackrock were restricted to just 101 all out due to some great bowling by the opposition. Shailesh snapped 2 wickets in his 1st over, though he gave away a few runs later on. Jai kirti was the pick of the bowlers taking 2/10 in his 3 overs. Varun also contributed wonderfully with his right arm medium pace giving away just 8 runs in 3 overs and also taking a wicket.

Lintas won the match by 43 runs and Varun Sabharwal was adjudged ‘man of the match”.  We are sure Varun and the whole team will have positive momentum by their side in the next matches of the tournament.

It was truly a revolutionary team effort exhibited by TCC in the Friends Premier League tournament. Opener Pramod celebrated his comeback with a swashbuckling innings of 43 off just 26 balls. He played at a strike rate of 165 and smashed two sixes & 4 boundaries. Pramod got able support by his opening partner Upendra Yadav with his solid 30 runs off just 25 balls. The partnership created the strong foundation for big score with 76 runs coming off the first 7 overs followed by a quick fire of 25 from Ganesh Patil which boosted the team morale to achieve the target of 200+

Upendra played a crucial hand towards his team;s win and this time he also decided to show his bowling prowess. Upendra was completely sensational with the ball scalping 4/10 in 4 overs. Palu Gadvi performance was also worth taking notice as he gave vital breakthroughs during the powerplay.

Above all, It was Tejas Rathore who took the hearts away with his breath taking performance. Tejas scored an aggressive 84 and smashed all the bowlers with authority. He was completely entertaining throughout his stay at the crease. 7 sixes are surely a testimonial on how entertaining and destructive Tejas was.

Man of the match - TC Challengers

Tejas was rightly adjudged man of the match for his brilliant batting. Opposition (Team Pitchers) also exhibited great positive intent in the game and really fought hard. They took on TCC with conviction & competitive spirit. They did not give up as even they scored their first 50 runs within the first 6 overs. They lost 2 quick wickets but Gaurang & Prashant not just exhibited fearless batting performance but also did not give away wicket to keep the hopes alive in the competition. The turning point was the wickets of Gaurang and Prashant in quick succession when the score on the board was 102/5. It was after that, pitches could not get going & they lost the run chase against TCC. But that hardly takes away the fact that It was one of the most competitive matches of the tournament.

Let’s wish more and more fun continues in the tournament. Also let’s wish more and more such exciting and entertaining encounters keep on happening in the FPL tournament.

HAPPY CRICKET & LET THE ENTERTAINMENT CONTINUE…..

It was the last league match of the tournament at cross maidan between SVIS and IES Bandra. What’s more interesting was both the teams are tied up with equal points in the table and a win would push them into the semis. So it was important for both the teams to win this match.

Mihir Gawade (Swami Vivekanand School Team) 5 wkts
Mihir Gawade (Swami Vivekanand School Team) 5 wkts

IES Bandra won the toss and elected to bat first. They managed to post just 219/10 which was not a huge score to defend. The top order of the Bandra team did not shine much but it was the middle order and especially Chinmay Kanakia who scored 73. From SVIS, Right arm off-spinner Mihir Gawade once again bowled really well and took 5/72 in 22 overs. SVIS in reply made 356/6 in 80 overs. Once again it was the little genius Ayush Jethwa(scored 117* in the previous match) bringing up a swashbuckling ton to enthrall his team and the spectators. Left-handed Ayush scored a magnificent 156 off just 142 balls. Ayush kept his innings always at a strike rate above 110 and he smashed 22 glorious boundaries in it.

Ayush did clean batting and smashed shots with tremendous power and class. It is said that the batsman who are power- hitters are usually pinch hitters (like Afridi or Pollard) and classy batsman are never powerful hitters(like dravid or laxman), they are always the defensive or calmer ones. But what sets Ayush apart is, he possesses both power and class which makes him all the more unique.

SVIS won the match and are qualified to play in the semi-finals. Their semi-final will be against Al-barkaat kurla and they will certainly move ahead with a lot of positive momentum in the semis.

It was the 3rd match between CAG and Mumbai Police at the University ground in Mumbai. While CAG was confident and in a positive momentum after winning the first two matches it was important for Mumbai police to win the match as they are yet to win any matches in the tournament.

Though CAG lost the toss, they took the full benefit of batting first as they posted a healthy score of 200/4 in 20 overs. While Swapnil was out for 4, Bravesh played a wonderful knock of 56 coming of just 41 balls. The highlight of the CAG innings was the aggressive right handed batsman from Punjab named Himanshu Chawla. Himanshu scored a brisk 31 ball 57 & completely dominated the bowlers. He created a good partnership with Bravesh and also upped the run rate for CAG team. Himanshu’s 57 included 6 fours and 2 straight sixes & he was completely entertaining for the spectators. Ankur Jhulia and Ankit Sharma played aggressive cricket too down the order to propel the team’s total to 200.

Chasing 201, Mumbai police gave a tough fight & fought hard. Mumbai police scored 172/7 in 20 overs, thanks to some great bowling by the CAG bowlers the opposition fell short of 28 runs & lost the game. Talented Harsh Tank scored a solid 47 ball 56 for Mumbai. CAG Skipper Ankit Sharma also bowled well for his 2/31 in 4 overs. Ankit Sharma who is a left arm spinner also plays in IPL for Pune warriors while Ritu Raj singh was also excellent with the ball taking 3/14 in 4 overs.

CAG won their 3rd consecutive match with Himanshu Chawla being adjudged “man of the match” CAG team will go ahead with a lot of positive momentum in their next match against BPCL.
