Payyade and Navroz CC faced each other for the group B league match at Aquaria Ground in Borivali. Both the teams are considered to be equally strong and a competitive encounter was the call of the day. Payyade elected to bat first after winning the toss as the conditions looked favorable for batting and they have a good bowling line up too.
Payyade were off to a jerky start as they lost their 1st wicket before posting any runs on the board. It was however their no.3 batsman, right handed Sumeet Singh who scored a fantastic 76 off just 66 balls. Singh’s knock included 8 glorious boundaries and 2 perfect sixes which set the tone for Payyade Innings. It was also some excellent late onslaught by Meet Mayekar(23* off 17) and Varad Vaze(21* off 10) who upped the run rate together for Payyade(Payyade reached 202/6 in 25 overs). Sanskar panaskar was the pick of the bowlers for Navroz scalping 3/26 in his 5overs.
Chasing 203, Navroz CC felt the pressure of batting second as they managed only 109/9 in 25 overs. Advait Lotlikar was the pick of the bowlers and bowled exceeding well taking important breakthroughs with his 3/17 in 5 overs. Meet Mayekar who scored a brisk 23* also took 3 catches and made one run out with his amazing fielding.
It was a good performance overall by the boys and each player contributed well in their victory of 77 runs against Navroz. Sumit Singh was adjudged ‘man of the match’ for his fluent 76 at the top of the order. With a memorable win in the league round, Payyade will certainly advance in the tournament with a lot of confidence.
It was the nerve wracking knockout match between Thane Police and Hafele India at Central Maidan in Thane. It was a good batting pitch and Thane Police elected to bat first after winning the toss.
It was a confusing start for Thane as one of their openers followed by the next five batsman did not even cross 20’s but another opener Saidesh Bhagat scored a gutsy 72 off just 67 balls. It was some down the order slogging and match saving knocks by Abhijit More (61) and Prashant Suryavanshi (60) which changed the match big time. Left-handed Prashant smashed his 60 off just 40 balls and smashed 4 big sixes in it too. Prashant was outright aggressive and played with confidence. His partnership with Abhijit who played equally well took their team total to 292/7 in 35 overs.
Chasing 293 at 8.35 runs per over is always a tough chase & Hafele were all out for a paltry 109 in 18.3 overs. Prashant Suryavanshi was the pick of the bowlers taking 5/33 in his 6.3 overs. Namdev Shinde also bowled well for his 3/32 in 5 overs.
Thane Poilce won the match by a huge margin of 183 runs and all-rounder Prashant Suryavanshi was adjudged man of the match for his heroics, Looking at the form he is in, Prashant will surely be a player which future opponents needs to be afraid of.
It was the all important knock-out match between Rizvi Jr. College vs Dr. Ambedkar College at Sunder C.C ground, Cross Maidan in Mumbai. The pitch was wet and looked ideal for bowlers to make the most of the pitch conditions. Hence, Ambedkar elected to bowl first after winning the toss.
Rizvi team are known for their strong batting line up & once again they lived up to their expectations. Openers Sagar and Varun scored 56 & 44 respectively followed by followed by 40 & 66 by Ashutosh & Abhilash. However, their pick of the batsman was Atharva Ankolekar and Avishkar Kolambe who scored 95* and 60 respectively. Atharva smashed some stunning shots and displayed a lot of exuberance at the crease. The best part about Rizvi’s innings was each and every batsman did their job and everyone gave good starts with the bat which is a rare happening. Satyak Patel also smashed a quickfire 38 off just 14 balls coming down the order.
Chasing 467, RIZVI did a good job with the ball too as they restricted Ambedkar to a very low total and won the match by a big margin . Left arm spinner Satyak patel bowled a magical spell of 5 overs. 1 run, 4 maidens and 3wkts which was nothing short of stunning. Medium pacer Manas Rajkar also did a good job with the ball.
Rizvi won the match by a big margin and Atharva Ankolekar was adjudged man of the match for his superb and timely knock of 95.
It was the 2nd league match of the Bhaskar Memorial Tournament between P.J Gymkhana & Jolly Brothers CC at the PJ Gymkhana ground, Mumbai. Both the teams are known to be strong and an exciting competition was bound to happen between the two sides. PJ Gymkhana won the toss and elected to bat first as the batting conditions looked fair enough to make a big target.
Opening the innings, Krish and Harsh Tathare set the tone for the innings as they stitched a partnership of 85 runs at the top of the order. While krish scored a gutsy 41, it was their right handed opener Harsh who steadied the ship for his team with a brilliant 61. Harsh faced 64 deliveries for his calm and composed 61 and smashed only 2 boundaries in it. Only 2 fours in his 61 itself showed the amount of hard work and stamina put by Tathare at the crease. More than that, Harsh showed a brilliant composure and patience for his age which was all but appreciation worthy. Skipper Nutan Goel who came 1 down also scored freely & looked good for his quick 39. PJ Gymkhana reached a defining total of 159/2 in 20 overs.
Chasing 160 at 8 runs per over, Jolly Brothers CC fought till the end and gave the best fight possible. Quite evident from the fact that they lost by a narrow margin of only 4 runs. Opener Aditya Pabalkar scored a brilliant 65 ball 79 and stayed till the end. In fact it was Aditya’s partnership with Shubham(31) which at one point was looking good enough to turn the game in their favor. However, the talented Harsh showed immense talent with the ball too as he picked 2/18 & also broke the crucial partnership taking Shubham’s wicket too! Other bowlers like Ganesh Patankar, Vedant Deshmukh & Arnav Patil also did their job & succeeded in containing the batsman.
PJ Hindu Gymkhana won the match in their home pitch and ‘man of the match’ Harsh once again showed how much talented he is both with the bat as well as with the ball. Harsh has scored heavily this season and has also bowled well, we certainly wish his good form continues as he has many more milestones to achieve.

It was the nail biting knock-out match of the Thane Vaibhav Inter office tournament between two competitive teams namely PWD vs Material Organisation in Dadoji Kondadev Stadium, Thane. PWD elected to bat first after winning the toss as it was a good batting track & they wanted to capitalize on the condition.
However, things weren’t as hunky dory as they may have expected as PWD was all out for just 168 runs in 34 overs. Umesh Rathod (35) was the only one who crossed the 30 run mark as none of the batsman were able to convert their 10’s and 20’s to something substantial. Left arm spin bowler Mangesh Jadhav took 3/35 in his 7 overs and was the pick of the bowlers. Jadhav contained the batsman and also gave breakthroughs when they were needed. Chasing 169 in35 overs, it was almost like a cakewalk for the Material team as they won the match comfortably by 7 wickets and 11.4 overs to spare.
No.4 batsman Kunjan Thakur remained unbeaten on 42* off 56 balls and chased the score in style. However, it was their opener Vishnu Bhaidkar who scored a match winning 69 off just 71 balls. Vishnu was composed and looked solid in his 71 ball stay at the crease where he smashed 8 glorious boundaries and did equally good running between the wickets. It was a big win for Material Organisation & opener Vishnu was adjudged ‘man of the match’ for his fantastic knock.
Looking at the current form Vishnu and his whole team is in, they will be a tough nut to crack for the opponents in the coming matches of the tournament.
Advancing from the league round, it was the super six match between Devils United & Corporate Strikers at Elf Oval ground in Mumbai in Netmagic Premier League 2017 Cricket Tournament. Corporate strikers which are considered a strong team in the tournament loss the toss and Devils United elected to bat first in order to capitalize the situation and make the most of the batting track.
Corporate strikers managed 79/5 in 10 overs with their all-rounder Ganesh Sawant being the top scorer with 22*. Ganesh remained unbeaten and upped the rate in the last slog overs of the game. Uday was the pick of the bowlers taking 2/11 in his 2 overs followed by Sachin Patil 2/17(2) & Sumit G’s 1/11 in 2 overs. Chasing 80 runs in 10 overs, Devils United won the match by 9 wickets. But it was not a comfortable victory for them as they were at one point stuck at only 35-40 runs in 6 overs. It was some sloppy fielding & late onslaught by the Devils United batsman & especially Sushil kumar Gupta who scored a match winning 40*off just 22 balls. His 40* was outright entertaining to watch and included 4 fours and 2 big sixes towards long on to enthrall the spectators.
Devils united won the match by a comfortable margin of 9 wickets and all-rounder Sushil Gupta was adjudged ‘man of the match’ for his brilliant performance. Devils united defeated a strong team like Corporate strikers and they qualify for the next stage i.e semi finals (20-20 over) stage of the tournament & looking at their current form, they certainly look favorites to win the tournament too!
It was the 10 over league encounter between TCS & Sony Pictures at Air India Ground, Mumbai. TCS won the toss and elected to bat first as it was a good batting track and it would help them post a big target.
However, things weren’t as hunky dory as they may have expected as TCS lost 3 early wickets within the first 10 runs and they were struggling at one point. But TCS eventually played well in the slog overs and posted a great total of 101/7 in 10 overs with the help of powerplay (where the tally of runs are doubled from what they are scored in the powerplay overs) . No.5 & 6 Pratik S and Pinkesh played crucial cameos of 31*(22) and 19(13) which took their team total to cross the 100 run mark. C Mungekar was the pick of the bowlers taking 2/14 in 2 overs followed by 2/21 by Prathamesh. Chasing 102, Sony Pictures finished the match in style as they had 2 overs to spare despite such a big target.
V Pandey scored a flashy 22 ball 38 but it was their other opener Pratik Patil who played a gem of a knock and stayed till the end finishing the game in style. Pratik Patil scored a brilliant 50* coming off just 24 balls. At a strike rate of above 200, he smashed 3 fours and 4 big sixes to enthrall the spectators. Pratik took the onus on his shoulders in the absence of their regular opener Vipin Chaurasia & did his job to perfection.
Sony team won the match by 9 wickets and 2 overs to spare & opener Pratik Patil was adjudged man of the match in Tata Motors Corporate Cricket Championship 2017 for his swashbuckling 50*. Looking at the way he and his whole team are playing, Sony will surely be a team to lookout for as and when the tournament advances.
It was the semi-final match between KSG warriors & Super Kings at the Payyade Cricket Ground (Kandivali) in Mumbai. Super Kings from SRK won the toss & elected to field first as they found wicket suitable for bowlers & they have good bowling line up too.
KSG Warriors who did batting first did good job with the bat as they scored 319/9 in 40 overs. It was 8 runs per over and that was quite commendable by warriors. Almost all the batsman scored 20’s and 40’s but it was their middle order batsman Sitanshu Parekh who scored an aggressive 52 ball 97. Coming in at no.7 he changed the entire game single handedly with his effortless batting. Sitanshu consistently played at a strike of above 190 and he smashed 8 fours and 5 big sixes in his 52 ball stay at the crease. Sitanshu who scored most of his runs straight did maximum hitting in the last 5 overs which helped his team cross the 300 run mark. Jatin Mehta 3/25 and Mittal Dalal 3/57 were the pick of the bowlers for Warriors.
Chasing 320 in 40 overs is very tough & Warriors did felt the difficulty. But there was no denying the fact that they gave an extremely tough fight as they were all out for 265 in 37 overs. Had any of their batsman stayed a little more at the crease till 40 overs, things could have turned in their favor too. Sitanshu who already scored 97 with the bat also took 2/37 in his 5 overs along with 2 catches & it was a complete all round performance by him.
“Man of the match” Sitanshu who had cancelled his tour just to play in the semis will surely be feeling that it was worth it as he made his team win the match with his all- round show & we certainly wish they win the finals too!
It was the nail biting semis of the Khichadia Khar Tournament between Rizvi Springfield Bandra & Yashodham High School Goregoan at Khar Gymkhana in Mumbai. Rizvi who boasts of a strong batting line up elected to bat first after winning the toss.
Rizvi lived up to their expectations as a good batting team as they scored 278/9 in 45 overs. At one moment they did appear to be in some trouble but eventually their middle order sailed them out of trouble. Down the order it was their no.5 and & no.7 Aditya Dev and Ranbeer Yadav who came as saviors for their side as they scored 84 & 74* respectively. Both the right handers clobbered the bowlers and sailed their team to a highly commendable total of 278 in 45 overs. They rotated the strike and kept the scorecard ticking & also created a good partnership where in they targeted almost every bowlers at will. From Yashodham it was their right arm off spinner Jugraj Mehta who bowled brilliantly for his 4/96 followed by right arm medium pacer Usama chaudhary who took 3/25.
In reply, Yashodham high school was all out for a paltry 87 in 24 overs. Right arm leg spinner Yashasvi Jaiswal once again showed his bowling prowess as he scalped 5 crucial wickets which broke the opposition’s momentum. Yashashvi bowled a brilliant spell of 5/32 in his 9 overs and Rizvi won the match by a big margin of 191 runs & skipper Jaiswal was adjudged man of the match.
With such a big win in the semis, Rizvi will be in a great mindset when they enter the finals & we certainly wish that they win the tournament.
