It was the all important Semi-finals of the Kurla bapat tournament between Prabhu jolly young cricketers & Canara Vijay at National CC ground, Cross maidan in Mumbai. Winning the toss, Canara Vijay CC elected to bat first and make the most of the pitch conditions to give a big target to team Prabhu Jolly Young Cricketers.
However, things did not go in their favor as the openers failed to give a start to Canara Vijay team and so did the middle order who failed to convert their 20’s. Eventually Canara Vijay team was all out for 122 in 19.3 overs with MAS KAZI being the leading run scorer scoring a fighting 34 off 40 balls. Left arm spinner Vijendra Yadav was the ultimate destroyer for Canara Vijay as he bowled a fantastic spell with bowling figures of 6/22 in 3.3 overs. Vinjendra bamboozled the batsman with his spin & kept on taking wickets without allowing any batsman to settle at the crease. Yadav also got some good support from their skipper Ajinkya Balkate who came up with bowling figures of 1/29 in 4 overs. Rahman Siddique & Birendra Rawat also chipped in with a wicket each.
Chasing 123 is an easy task for most of the teams now and such was the case with Prabhu Jolly Young Cricketers as they won the match by 8 wkts and 5.4 overs to spare. Skipper Ajinkya Balkate brought up a match winning half century (56* off 44 balls) playing the role of finisher for his team. Right-handed Ajinkya smashed 8 fours & 2 sixes & looked very solid and confident at the crease.
Prabhu Jolly Young Cricketers won the match & Vijendra Yadav and Ajinkya Balkate were surely the man of the match for their brilliant individual performances. Looking at the form the whole team & these two players are in, the finals will be worth watching!

One is the Sri Lankan Legend Chaminda Vaas who needs no introduction. A veteran of 111 Tests, 322 ODI’s & a tally of 655 wickets, these figures tells it all. On the other hand is our very own mumbaikar Wasim Jaffer, the man who has scored 2 double centuries for India in Test Cricket (including one against arch rival Pakistan). A man who is no less than an iconic figure of India in first class cricket. In fact he is a bigger name in first class cricket than many International Indian Icons as he has amassed over 17,000 runs & 51 centuries in first class cricket. The good news is both these veterans are coming together to coach boys in Mumbai & it can’t get better than this!
Jwala Sports Foundation is launching a new cricket coaching programme in association with Brain 4Sports in Mumbai known as “Centre of Excellence for Cricket”. The boys from U-14 & U-16 will get selected by Jwala Sports Foundation to get trained under the stint of Wasim Jaffer & Chaminda Vaas for a period of two weeks.
These will be full day camps for its entire duration and all the aspects of cricket right from the art of Fast Bowling, Batting, Fielding Skills, Match Temperament, Fitness & Training, Cricket Psychology & Mental Toughness will be covered. It’s basically a complete A to Z cricket coaching camp under the excellent Guidance of these two international cricketers. These two weeks can completely revamp a player as far as his cricketing skills or cricketing aspirations are concerned & such opportunities doesn’t come everyday for sure.
Some Important Pointers-
- Players between the age 12 to 21 can participate in the form of 4 groups starting from u-12, u-14, u-16, u-18 and u-21
- The 1st round of selection has been completed at Oval Maidan on 27th february between 9am to 3om.
- 70 Kids have been selected so far and will undergo the next steps/procedures for the final selection
- Overall between 60 to 75 kids will be selected for this program but the number has been increased from 75 to 90 because of the great response it has received.
- The next round of selection trial will be conducted in the 1st week of April (The dates will come out soon!)
- All the selected players will get a special uniform, & there will daily practice under the stint of Wasim Jaffer & Chaminda Vaas between 9am to 3pm along with breakfast and lunch facilities.
- Vinayak Samant, Prashant Shetty & Santosh Shinde will be the sub-coaches under Wasim Jaffer & Chaminda Vaas.
- All the players will get a participation certificate on the completion of program signed & approved by Wasim Jaffer & Chaminda Vaas.
- Jwala Singh (the director of Mumbai Cricket Club -MCC & Brain 4Sports) is responsible for this wonderful initiative which is a first of its kind in India. Jwala Singh is also regarded as one of the top coaches in the city, so overall it’s going to be a once in a lifetime exposure for kids.
Dronacharya Award winner and a cricket coach of top class, Chandrashekhar Karmalkar has already made a strong mark in cricket coaching fraternity. The 44-year old resident of Thane started his cricket academy way back in 2003 by the name Kwality Sports Club. Karmalkar imparts cricket training at Dadoji Konddev stadium, Thane, five days a week (Monday – Friday) from 7am to 9am. The practice sessions are on for all 12 months round the year, with off-season training being undertaken in June – September.

A right hand opening batsman and a right arm off spin bowler, Chandrashekhar started playing cricket right from his school days when he represented New English School, Thane, in inter-school cricket tournaments. His solid performances at the school level, was rewarded with a berth in Mumbai U-15 team which was captained by the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar in 1988. After completing his schooling, the all-rounder went on to play at inter-collegiate level for R.Jhunjhunwala College, Ghatkopar. For a decade (1991 – 2001), Karmalkar played Kanga league matches for different clubs. Not only with bat and ball, but also behind the stumps he made some useful contributions. He represented various Thane clubs like Golden Star, Royal Cricket Club, Thane Friends, Morning Cricket Club and Sporting Club. At the district level, Karmalkar played multiple tournaments like Shatkar Trophy, Sport Star Trophy and RCF Trophy, to name a few.
For over a decade, Chandrashekhar Karmalkar has been associated with coaching. He has produced many a great players that have gone on to play for Mumbai at different age groups. Vaibhav Mali played for Mumbai U-19 and was in the probables of U-23. He is currently playing for Air India. Jaydeep Pardeshi is another player who made it big. Jaydeep played for Mumbai at U-14, U-16, U-19 and U-23 levels. He also played for Mumbai University and got selected for NCA and ZCA camp. Arun Yadav played for Rest of India and Haryana U-19. Currently he is playing A division matches. Donning Mumbai’s lion crest on his chest, Hemant Buchade excelled in cricket, as he made it to the U-23 team, thanks to Chandrashekhar Karmalkar.
Apart from the physically abled players, Karmalkar has trained the special talents like Mayuresh Sansare and Atul Khukale. Sansare represented the Indian team in 2015 for the five-nation physically challenged cricket tournament, whereas both these players were selected to play for Mumbai in the West Zone Tournament for physically challenged.
Chandrashekhar has been associated with Piramal Enterprises since 2007 and has helped the corporate team win many a competitions At the hands of Anand Piramal, Executive Director of Piramal Realty, Chandrashekhar Karmalkar was bestowed with Dronacharya award in 2012. Semi-Finals are always much awaited & it was the all important semi-final game of the Liberal Shield Tournament between Dilip Vengsarkar’s XI & Elphinstone at Elphinstone Cricket Ground, Azad Maidan, Mumbai. Elphinstone won the toss & elected to bat first with an aim of making a big score and put Vengsarkar’s XI under pressure.
Things weren’t as hunky dory for Elphinstone as they did not get a good start from their openers and neither did their middle order fired the way they may have wanted to. Elphinstone managed to reach only 112/6 in 20 overs with Ayush being the leading run scorer with a gutsy 38. He lacked support from the other end & hardly any batsman were able to cross the two digit mark which kept their total limited to just 112. Each & every bowler did their job perfectly as everyone scalped a wicket each. Rohan Bane was the most economical of the lot taking 1/14 in his 3 overs.
Chasing 113 was a mere cakewalk for Vengsarkar’s XI as they won the match by 5 wkts and 3.5 overs to spare. Manish Bhogale who had taken a wicket with his left arm spin also contributed well at the middle order sealing the chase for his side with an unbeaten 39* off just 20 balls. Right-handed batsman Manish just came in and smacked the bowlers at will scoring at a strike rate of almost 200 & helping his team win the semi-finals.
It was a good day in the office for Dilip Vengsarkar’s XI and Manish Bhogale was adjudged ‘man of the match’ for his all-round performance. Looking at the good performance by the Vengsarkar boys, their finals against Sangam CC at Karnataka SC ground will be a match to look out for. It was the 2nd round knock-out match between two strong teams namely Parsee Gymkhana & Sind Sports Club at the Parsee Gymkhana Ground, in Marine Lines Mumbai. Parsee Gymkhana who have a strong batting line up elected to put the opposition under pressure and bowl first and restrict them to a low score.
Batting first, SSC were not off to the best starts as both their openers Khushal shah & Harsh Tank lost their wickets early. However, there was some respite as their no.3 batsman Puneet Tripathi scored a sublime 82 off just 102 balls. Puneet looked hardly affected by any of the bowlers & was quite solid and confident at the crease. Puneet smashed 9 fours & 2 sixes in his 102 ball stay at the crease & also created a good partnership with Parthiv Mehta who also scored a valiant half century (51, 5 fours)) off 95 balls. Their skipper Raunaq Sharma was leading from the front with bowling figures of 4/56 in his 15.3 overs. Right arm leg spinner Raunaq bowled really well and also got good support from Bhavin desai and Manish Rao who took 2 wickets each. SSC were all out for 274 in 67.3 overs and gave a decent target for Parsee Gymkhana to chase.
Chasing 275, Parsee Gymkhana were at one struggling with 4 wickets down under 50 runs including their in-form opener Bravish Shetty who did not open his account with the bat. However, Raunaq still had that mojo inside him and did not gave up till the very end. It was definitely one of the best knocks of the tournament as their skipper at no.5 went on to score a blazing 158 off just 138 balls. Raunaq Sharma was outright entertaining and smashing the ball with authority which included 14 glorious fours and 7 big sixes to infuse life back to their chase. However, Raunaq gave away his wicket at the last moment when only 18 runs were needed & they lost the match by just 8 runs. Had he got some support from the other end, this could well have been one of the best chases in the recent times. Right arm medium pacer Arvind Patel was the pick of the bowlers taking 7/61 in 17.4 overs. Arvind was very effective with the ball & kept on taking wickets at regular intervals including the crucial wickets of the opposition skipper Raunaq Sharma who was batting on 158.
Arvind Patel completed playing the match despite he losing a dear member of his family while the match was on. His father encouraged him to complete the match & he certainly gave his best despite all the drawbacks. His performance is certainly a dedication towards his loved ones & the one whom he lost.
Sind Sports Club won the match by 7 runs and players Raunaq Sharma, Arvind Patel and Puneet Tripathi were collectively adjudged ‘man of the match’ for their brilliant individual performances. All in all, it was a great match which held everybody’s nerves till the end & Cricketgraph wishes all the three players and both the teams to keep performing in the same way.
Islam Gymkhana & Parkophene Cricket Club faced each other for a crucial encounter at the D.P.Z Ground, Matunga in Mumbai. Team Parkophene won the toss & elected to bat first and make the most of the pitch conditions to post a big total on the board.
Parkophene openers gave a good start with both the batsman Jiniv Joshi & Swapnil Salvi scoring 37 (37) & 33(13) respectively. No.3 and no.4 batsman lost their wickets early but Parag Khanapurkar came in and scored a fluent 85 off just 87 balls. Parag smashed 11 fours & 2 sixes and also stitched a good partnership with Prasad Pawar who scored a gutsy 62 off 76 balls (9 fours). Right arm spinner Salman Khan bowled an excellent spell & took a five wicket haul. Salman Khan succeeded in troubling the batman unlike the other bowlers & came up with a great bowling spell of 5/136 in 27 overs. Jay Dave also bowled well supporting him with 2/30 in his 7 overs. Team Parkophene was all out for 343 in 66 overs and gave a competitive target to chase.
Chasing 344, as people say ‘Some Talents are breed & nurtured in the same house” as Khizer Dafedar’s brother Hashir Dafedar also came up with a great century scoring a fighting knock of 113 off 170 balls. Right handed Hashir smashed 15 fours in his classy knock but he lacked strong support from the other end where Tabish Ansari, Abdul Aziz & Sanket Jadhav were the only one who scored 44, 40 & 39 respectively. As Hashir shared with Cricketgraph ‘the pitch was tough to bat on and they had lost 3 wkts for only 9 runs, however Hashir & Aziz stitched a 108 run partnership but that was not enough. Add to it, their spinner Rajesh Powar (who has represented India ‘A’) was bowling really well & hardly allowed any batsman to play a cover drive. Sufyan Rehmani & Parag were also bowling well containing the batsman and also taking wickets in tandem. Hashir was out on 94 the last time & felt the nervous 90’s but he went on to complete a century though in a losing cause.
It was an amazing job by the bowlers and eventually Islam Gymkhana managed to reach 257/8 in 70 overs handing over a victory by 86 runs to Team Parkophene. It was a good match overall where players gave their best & let’s wish the good form of everybody continues for a long long time.
It was the all important finals of the Masters Cup which all the teams of the tournament were waiting for at Elf Vengsarkar Academy, Oval, Mumbai. RIKA GLOBAL & RAVE technology, both the teams had fought hard to reach at this juncture & it was a do or die finals for both the teams. Rave Technology won the toss & elected to bat first & put RIKA under pressure by restricting them to a low score.
Batting first, Prakash Patil & Aakash Patil gave a decent start to the innings. Prakash was out for 22 off just 11 balls but the other Patil remained solid at the other end and went on to score a 57 ball 72 for his team. Right-handed opener Aakash Patil came up with a perfect knock when it was needed from him at the right time as he scored his 72 runs at a strike rate of 126. Aakash smashed 9 glorious boundaries and a big six and kept the scorecard ticking. The rest of the batsman could not convert their 10’s & 20”s like Aakash & eventually Rika managed to reach a respectable & competitive score of 170/7 in 20 overs. Mihir was the pick of the bowlers with bowling figures of 3/37 in 4 overs followed by a wicket each for Paras, Anoop, R Jain & R Priyank.
Chasing 174 at almost 8 runs per over, Rave Technologies succumbed to the good bowling and pressure of chasing in the finals as they were all out for 123/10 in 19.2 overs. R Aaraf was the pick of the bowlers taking 3/8 in his 3 overs and get best bowler of the tournament followed by 3/31 by T Shubham. Aakash Patil who scored 72 also took a wicket to make it a complete all-round performance.
RIKA GLOBAL won the finals by 47 runs & Aakash Patil was rightly adjudged ‘man of the match’ for his 57 ball 72 & a wicket. Cricketgraph congratulates Aakash on his splendid performance & also wishes RIKA Global all the luck for a great future ahead.
It was the all important Quarter-finals between Kotak & HPE at Kamat Cricket Ground (Shivaji Park) Dadar, Mumbai. Kotak who have a strong batting line up decided to make the most of the conditions and elected to field first & restrict them to a low score.
Their decision to bowl first did pay dividends as HPE managed to reach only 117/9 in 20 overs. The bowlers did a good job in containing the batsman & also kept on taking wickets at regular intervals. Left arm spinner Sagar Khatri was the pick of the bowlers taking 4/13 in his 4 overs followed by Vikram Shah who also bowled well with bowling figures of 3/17 in 4 overs. Both the bowlers were taking wickets in tandem & effectively played the role of ‘destroyers in chief’ for HPE team. Ravi was the only shining hope for HPE where he scored a 44 ball 40 and helped his team reach at least 117.
Chasing 118, Kotak won the match in the most fashionable way as they finished the chase in just 13.2 overs with a loss of just 1 wicket. Right handed opening batsman Rugved Chaudhary wrecked havoc over the opposition as he remained unbeaten in his 47 ball blazing knock of 81*. Rugved played at a strike rate of 180+ & smashed 14 glorious boundaries in it. It was for sure a perfect captain’s knock which handed over his team a win by 9 wkts.
It was a good quarter finals for Kotak where Sagar and Vikram bowled well while skipper Rugved finished the chase in style. Rugved Chaudhary was adjudged ‘man of the match’ too for his match winning knock. Considering the form Rugved and his whole team is in, they will certainly be a tough competition for the opposition in the semi-finals.
It was a crucial league encounter between New Hind Sports Club & ABIS Rizvi S.C at Navroze Cricket Ground, Mumbai. Both the teams are strong & an exciting competition was bound to happen. NHSC won the toss & elected to bowl first and make the most of the conditions.
Batting first, Rizvi were not off to the best starts as their 1st four batsman were out under 50 runs & it looked the decision of bowling first was correct by NHSC until the next two batsman Ali & Mohit Tanwar arrived at the crease. Both the batsman stitched a 100+ match winning partnership to rescue their team out of trouble. R Ali scored a fluent 66 while the dashing Mohit Tanwar scored a magnificent 69* coming off just 41 balls. Right-handed Mohit smacked 6 fours and 2 huge sixes in his counter attacking knock and remained unbeaten till the end. Infact It was because of his presence at the crease the team managed to reach 189/5 in 20 overs. Atharva was the pick of the bowlers taking 4/37 but he lacked support from the other bowlers which resulted in a big total.
Chasing 190, the opposition team NHSC were all out for a paltry 82 in 17.3 overs and handed over a big margin victory to ABIS Rizvi by 108 runs. Samad Shaikh was the pick of the bowlers taking 3 wkts and he got good support from the other bowlers too. JPV Reality & Hurricanes faced other for an important league encounter at Payyade Cricket Ground in Kandivali. Winning the toss, (KSG Stars) JPV Reality elected to bat first since the pitch was dry & particularly good to bat on which would help them post a decent target on the board & keep Hurricanes under pressure.
Batting first, JPV did a fairly good job scoring 162/11 in 20 overs. Though opener Parashar was out for 1, it was their right handed opener Dushyant Doshi who scored a solid half century at the top of the order laying the foundation for JPV’s innings. Dushyant Doshi scored an aggressive 59 off just 48 balls & smashed 6 fours & a six at a strike rate of almost 123. Umang Shah scored a good 28 ball 33 but it was the late onslaught by Shitanshu Parekh who scored a 14 ball 36(4 fours and 2 sixes) which took his team’s total to 162 in 20 overs. Manan Mehta was bowling really & was the pick of the bowlers with bowling figures of 3/22 in 3 overs followed by 3/37 by Parth Mathuria and 2 wkts for Dhruv Doshi.
Chasing 163, Hurricanes for Acry Organics were not off to a great start with their openers Manan & Rakesh Mehta out for 19 & 0 respectively. However, it was their no.8 & no.9 batman Akash Bhuta and Karan Mehta who ignited some hopes for Hurricanes as both the players gave their best down the order stitching a great 60+ partnership & scoring 30*(20) & 27*(22) respectively. Umang Sheth was the pick of the bowlers taking 2/15 in 3 overs followed by a wicket each for Shitanshu, Nirav, krunal, Harshil & Vipul.
KSG Stars from JPV Reality won the match by 16 runs & Dushyant Doshi was adjudged ‘man of the match’ for his superb knock at the top of the order. Cricketgraph wishes Dushyant & his whole team all the luck for the matches to come.
