Mitsui Shoji T20 Tournament is turning out to be intense & eventful as it reached its 7th day on 11.05.17 where the powerful Bandra boys clashed with the promising Thane Marathas in the 1st match of the day while Ghatkopar jets faced Shivaji Park Warriors in the evening.
In the 1st match which was held at Sachivalay Ground in Mumbai, Thane Marathas won the toss & elected to bat first. They weren’t aware that it wasn’t the best of the days in the office as they were skittled out for just 70/10 in 13.3 overs. It was a great team perfomance where every bowler chipped in with wickets while Shashikant Kadam was the best of the lot taking 2/7 in 2overs. Chasing a small target of 71, Thane did not allow them to win easily before taking away their 5wkts. Eventually, Bandra Heroes chased down the score in 9.4 overs where Shasikant Kadam was declared ‘man of the match’. Bandra boys also gave some rest to their in-form opener Aman Khan as he did not open the innings, in fact he came 5 down hitting the winning runs with Shams Maulani.
The 2nd match was again not a high scoring one where Ghatkopar jets after smartly electing to field first restricted Shivaji Park Warriors to 103/9 in 15overs. Left-arm spinner Puneet Tripathy came up with one of the best & economical figures of the tournament so far giving away only 4runs & taking 4wkts in his 3 overs. Yash Dicholkar also bowled well taking 3/18 in his 3overs. Chasing 104 at less than 6runs per over, Ghatkopar Jets won the match by 10wkts & chased down the score in mere 10.1 overs. Opener Aktar Shaikh smashed a brilliant 78* off just 44balls which included 7fours & 5 big sixes to complete the match single handedly with his opening partner Kushal (22*) to win the match in style. Ghatkopar won the match & opener Aktar was declared ‘man of the match’ for his splendid knock.
The tournament is certainly getting intense & the teams are giving their best to enter the play-offs & lift the trophy. Cricketgraph congratulates both the winning teams for their win while wishes luck to all the teams for more intense entertaining encounters in the coming days.

Kimati Sports, one of the leading manufacturers of leather cricket balls in India, in collaboration, with Cricketgraph, launched Corporate Bowler Award this February to recognize the bowling talent in the corporate sphere. The award is bestowed on the best bowler of the week, based on the performance in the corporate cricket leagues. The winner is awarded with attractive prizes which include a certificate of appreciation and a BCCI approved Kimati leather cricket ball.
A match which took everyone by surprise because earlier there used to be a time when players would take 7 or 8wkt haul in tests but bowlers like Sujith are just proving how T20 is changing at an intense level. Just few days ago we got a shocker from Rudra who scored a 200 in a T20 & now comes Sujith who takes a 7wkt haul in a T20 game.
Held at Parsee Cyclists Ground in Mumbai, Tech Mahindra won the toss & elected to bat first. However it wasn’t the best of the performances with the bat as they managed to put only 133/7 on the board. Hardly any batsman was able to convert his start apart from Yash Divan who was the leading scorer smashing a very solid looking 50 off just 44balls (5fours). The bowlers did a really good job with Altamash ahmed being the pick of the bowlers taking 3/17 in 4 overs followed by 2wkts for Ritesh Vaity.
Chasing 134 is an achievable task 8 out of 10 times but who knew Tech Mahindra’s left arm spinner Sujith Matthew was in a completely different zone in that match. 4wkts in a T20 was good, 5wkt haul is simply magical in a T20 but have you heard of a 7wkt haul in T20s?
So before we reveal his figures, we want to suggest the readers not to get shocked or not believe this bowling figures as Sujith Matthew took 7wkts in 4overs giving just 4runs. That’s not all, what stunned everyone around was his 3rd over where he took a mesmerizing 5wkts in 5balls where all of them were clean bowled one after one. Sujith certainly finished the game in just one over as Alexion Business Services was all out for just 89/10.
With this perfomance, Sujith also surpasses Ajanta Mendis & Rangana herath’s record of best bowling figures in a T20 of 6/8 & 5/3 respectively (considering all the levels of T20). Cricketgraph heartily congratulates Sujith Matthew for this exceptional perfomance & it certainly proves once & for all how much untapped talent India has in every nook and corner of our nation.
It was a low-scoring match indeed but sometimes even low scoring matches are interesting and one such match was between CMI & Clear Trip at the Zoroastrian ground in Mumbai. Clear Trip won the toss & elected to field first to restrict the opposition to a low total & put CMI under pressure.
Their decision to bowl first did prove to be a smart one as Clear Trip managed to restrict CMI for just 136/10 in 19.4 overs. Right-handed opener Mayur Rane was the only one who looked solid for his stay at the crease as he scored a composed 42 off 32balls which included 5fours. Apart from him Omkar also looked good scoring 29 off just 24 at no.3. Shaoor & Prabhat bowled really well taking 3wkts each followed by 2wkts for Shakir & 1wkt for Faiyaz. The bowlers did a really good job where they bowled in the right areas and kept on taking wickets at regular intervals.
Chasing 137 in a T20 game is most of the times achievable but CMI bounced back with the ball while Clear Trip could not replicate the good perfomance with the bat which they did with the ball as they were all out for 131/10 in 19.3overs. Vinit was the pick of the bowlers with bowling figures of 3/23 followed by 2wkts each for Nishant & skipper Rupesh Shinde. Mayur also chipped in with a wicket with his off-spin.
The match remained interesting till the end & CMI won by a margin of just 5runs. All-rounder Mayur Rane was declared ‘man of the match’ for his all-round show while the rest of the bowlers also did a great job. It was a complete team perfomance from both the sides & cricketgraph congratulates and also wishes luck to continue playing good brand of cricket in the future too.
