This was a match where numerous records were created on the way and sixes were hit like batting practice! The openers were in a different zone altogether as they took the match away single handedly from the opposition. Played between Reefit Gym Warriors and Friends Cricket Club, FCC won the toss and elected to field first.

Little did they knew on what was about to come as openers Manoj bedi & Ankit Thakran scored a record opening partnership in a T20 match of 289runs. Yes you heard it right! In a 20 over match, the openers scored 289runs together in mere 117balls. 24fours and 17sixes were smashed and it was a clean one sided entertainment from both the openers. What’s more Ankit Thakran scored one of the fastest tons in a T20 match in Delhi as he scored 158* off 63balls reminding us of the onslaught done by Mccullum in the 1st edition of the IPL. Manoj Bedi also scored a breath taking ton scoring 101 off 56 balls. It was these 2 openers which helped their team cross the 300run mark in a T20 match only for the 2nd time in Delhi while only 3rd time in India. Not a single bowler was spared by ankit and manoj as they kept on hitting the ball as if there was no tomorrow!

In reply, FCC were bundled out for 159runs in 20 overs even though their opener Jay did raised some hopes with his 14ball 41. All-rounder Manoj bedi was the star bowler too as he scalped 4/37 in 4 overs to help his team win the match. RGW won the match by a big margin of 143runs and Ankit Thakran was declared ‘man of the match’ while Manoj Bedi also won everyone’s hearts with his all-round heroics.

Batting first. Eleven Stars made 110/9 in 20 overs which is a below par score in a T20 match. Hardly any batsman was able to make an impact with the bat which led to their downfall. From the bowling side, Sourav Kataria was the pick of the bowlers coming up with match winning bowling figures of 5/14 in 4 overs(1maiden). Sourav bowled in the right areas and kept on bowling consistently to bowl an economic spell as well as taking wickets at the right time. Kunwar Raj also gave a good support with the ball as he took 2wkts too.

Chasing 111, openers Bharat Bhushan (24 off 13) and Anuj Rasganiya(27 off 19) gave a good start where half the job was done by the openers. RDX chased down the score in just 14.5 overs and won the match by 3wkts and 5.1 overs to spare. It was a dominating win by the experienced RDX boys and Sourav Kataria was declared ‘man of the match”. Played at the Young Zorastrian Ground, the Dreamz T20 Tournament has finally begun where a host of talented teams and players come together to showcase their passion towards cricket. Played between Tata AIA and Chronos Tech Solutions, Tata AIA won the toss and elected to bowl first considering the vulnerable pitch and weather conditions.

Their decision to bowl first was spot on as they reduced Chronos to just 117 in 19.4 overs. Nikhil Pingulkar was the highest scorer with a 22 while the rest of the batsman also chipped in with starts but could not convert it.  From the bowling side, Pravin D was the pick of the bowlers taking 3/20 in 4 overs.

However, Chronos Tech Solutions gave an excellent comeback with the ball and most importantly their fast bowler Imtiyaz Khan. Imtiyaz Khan literally ran through the batting line up of Tata AIA as he came up with match winning bowling figures of 5/18 in 4 overs. 5wkts in a T20 match is always commendable and Imtiyaz just did that bowling in the right areas. Aliasgar Badami of Souvenir Cricket Club was responsible for putting the Kamath Memorial batsmen in the state of conundrum, thanks to his uncanny ability to spin the ball. Many questions were asked by Aliasgar, but hardly any were answered by the listless Kamath Memorial batting line-up. The left arm spinner finished off with magical figures of 6-7 in 6.3 overs, which included three maiden overs. The batting order collapsed like a pack of cards handing an easy win to Souvenir Cricket Club. Badami rightly bagged the Kimati Bowler of the Week award for his excellent bowling display at Bombay High Court Sports Club during the Kanga league match.

Kimati Sports, one of the leading manufacturers of leather cricket balls in India, in collaboration, with Cricketgraph, launched Corporate/Club Bowler Award this February to recognize the bowling talent in the corporate/club sphere. The award will be bestowed on the best bowler of the week, based on the performance in the corporate/club cricket leagues. Beginning February 2017, the best bowler will be awarded with attractive prizes which include a certificate of appreciation and a Kimati leather cricket ball.

The panel of judges had a tough decision to make as the other two contenders; left arm spinner Jas Lalan of Jolly Cricketers and right arm off spinner Vinayak Pillai of Wellington Cricket Club, both accounting for seven scalps, in their respective Kanga league games, were fighting hard for the Kimati Corporate/Club Bowler of the Week Award.

Kimati Corporate/Club Bowler Award will come back next week with a new winner, till then Cricketgraph and Kimati wishes you all the very best.

On winning the toss, simply one elected to field first with an aim of restricting the opposition to a low total.

Batting first, RGW managed to score 149/10 in 19.5 overs which is a fairly decent total to defend. Openers Rahul (33 off 23) & Hitesh (45 off 46) gave an excellent start but most of the batsman below them could not convert the good start given by the openers. From the bowling side, Manish Verma was the pick of the bowlers coming up with impressive bowling figures of 3/22 in 4 overs followed by 2wkts for Farhan. Manish bowled really well in the right areas which helped him to take wickets as well as remain economical in his spell of 4 overs.

Their 1st  match of the day was against RN Podar school at the Parsee Cyclists ground wherein RN Podar surprisingly elected to bat first after winning the toss. Two things India has in abundance when it comes to cricket is millions of loyal fans for Cricket and a deep wealth of cricketing talent present in every remote corners of India. In that way, India has always been rich as time and again gems are found from the most humble backgrounds of India and this is what makes Cricket all the more special in our country and one such gem was found in the DSO U-14 tournament called Vineet Vanikar.

Played at the Azad Maidan, it was a match between two promising young teams namely Rustomjee School and Gokuldham school where in Rustomjee boys won the toss and elected to bat first in order to make a big total and capitalize the situation. At one point things looked good too till the time Rustomjee were 15 for no loss and all of a sudden came this mystery spinner Vinit Vanikar onto his 3rd over which completely changed the game in a span of just 7balls.Vineet bamboozled the batsman with his confusing leg spin as he took 6wkts in 7balls (wkt, wide, wkt, wkt, wkt, wkt, wkt.). Vineet took 5wkts in 5balls along with a hat-trick reminding us of Lasith Malinga who achieved that feat of 5wkts in 5balls vs South Africa in 2007 World Cup. Rustomjee School were all out for just 28runs due to that one over which made a huge dent into their innings.

With just 29runs to win, the score was chased under 5 overs by Gokuldham openers Ronit Thakur and Khush Jain which helped their team win the match by 10wkts. It was a commendable win but it was their right-arm leg spinner Vineet Vanikar who was definitely the ‘man of the moment’ . His perfomance was the definately the best in the match. Cricketgraph congratulates Vineet while wishes luck to all the boys for a great cricketing season ahead.

CRICKETGRAPH

Yes the rankings are finally out and started! Cricketgraph Rankings received a fabulous response from the cricketing community back then when we started in the early 2017. We went through a 3 month halt due to the rainy season where hardly any matches or tournaments are playerd but we are back with the September Rankings. Harsha Bhogle once said that scoring even 30 or 40 runs in Kanga is equivalent to 70 or 80 runs as the wickets are vulnerable, wet and tough to bat on. The ball bounces, skids and spins unvariably during Kanga which is started during the rainy season and hence batting is very tough.

As always our rankings are unbiased, deeply researched, verified and then we go through the final process of shortlisting.

The Top 5 Knocks in Mumbai for the month of September 2017 are-

  1. Siddhesh Lad (RHB)- 100 off 135balls, A Div, Payyade SC vs Shivaji Park Gymkhana

siddhesh lad

The prolific run getter in the Mumbai cricketing circles, young lad Siddhesh Lad once again came up with an impressive ton in the Kanga League which was full of composure and solid cricketing shots as he scored 100 off 135balls(8fours and 2sixes) at a strike rate of 74. The match was ended in a draw but it was Siddhesh’s ton which became the highlight perfomance of the match.

  1. Swapnil Pradhan (RHB)- 101 off 156balls, A Div Sind SC vs MIG CC

swapnil pradhan

Right-Handed Swapnil’s solid ton which came off 156 balls was full of maturity and class. On bad, wet and tough tracks, facing 156balls and scoring a ton is itself a task. Swapnil just did that against Sind Sports Club. The match was declared drawn but Swapnil was surely the best performer of the match.

  1. Manager Gupta (RHB)- 100* off 72balls, Sainath Sports Club vs United Cricketers

manager gupta

Played at the cross Maidan, Sainath Sports Club elected to field first after winning the toss. Batting first, United Cricketers were all out for just 45 while Sainath SC made 140/2 declare in just 20 overs in their 1st innings. It was all because of Manager Gupta’s swashbuckling ton of 100* which came off mere 72 deliveries which changed the game. United Cricketers were again all out for 38/10 and Sainath SC won the match outright.

  1. Prathamesh Pawar– 108 off 79balls, Muslim United SC vs National CC

prathmesh pawar

When scoring even a half century is considered commendable in Kanga, middle order bat Prathamesh Pawar came up with a 79ball 108 to completely change the script of the game. Right-handed Prathamesh smashed  13fours and 6sixes to dominate the National CC bowlers. The match ended in a draw but it was Pawar’s fiery knock which raised eyebrows!

  1. Jayant Satghare– 100 off 49balls, Mangrol CC

jayant sathghare

Finally at no.1 is this experienced batsman Jayant Satghare who went on to score the fastest ton of Kanga League 2017. Right handed Jayant Satghare scored 100 off just 49balls. At a strike rate above 200, Jayant smashed 10fours and 8sixes which eventually helped his team Bluestar win the match on 1st innings. Jayant’s knock was definitely amongst the best in Mumbai for the month of September and so were the other 4talented players who impressed the cricketing fraternity with their tons.
