Played at the Venus, Malad, it was a match between two young and promising teams namely Kurla SC and Apollo CC where in Apollo CC won the toss and elected to bowl first in order to restrict the opposition to a low total.

Made to bat first, Kurla SC scored a healthy total of 248/all out in 83.2 overs where in the top order failed to contribute but the lower middle order did the job. Rohil Jadhav scored a 33 at no.7 but it was Viraj Kavle at no.8 who resurrected the innings back with a valiant 84 off 141balls. It was his useful contribution down the order which helped them cross the 200run mark. Off spinner Siddhant Valankar was the pick of the bowlers taking 4/31 while Nestor Naronha chipped in with 3wkts.

In reply, Apollo CC failed to make a big score as they were all out for just 122runs in 57.2 overs. The primary destroyer in chief was their left arm spinner Omkar Karandikar who bowled an excellent spell of 6/41 in 19.2 overs which completely changed the game in their favor. Omkar has been in a excellent form with the ball and certainly looks promising for the bigger things. Kurla SC won the match on 1st innings and it was certainly omkar’s bowling which remained the highlight perfomance of the match. Played at the Khar Gymkhana on 29th October 2017, it was a match between Regal CC and Khar Gymkhana boys where in Regal CC won the toss and elected to bowl first as the wicket was good to bowl at.

Batting first, Khar Gymkhana did a decent job of notching up 239/8 before they declared their innings after batting for 42.5 overs to get some results. The main reason for Khar Gymkhana to cross the 200 run mark was their right handed aggressive opener Priyank Shetty who scored 111 off just 125balls.. With 18fours and a six, Priyank made sure that the scoreboard kept on ticking at a healthy run rate as he also played at a good strike rate of 89. Apart from him, Sahil Kukreja also did a good job down the order chipping in with an important half century. From the bowling side, Slow left arm spinner Bharat Meher was the lone warrior as he bowled a fantastic spell of 6/61 in 13.5 overs. Bharat as always kept on troubling the batsman with his good line and length along with his confusing spin.

In reply, Regal CC scored 188/9 in 41 overs before the end of the game’s play where in the match was declared drawn. It was a neck to neck match where Khar bowlers fell just one wicket short of what could have been a win for their team. The bowlers did a good job especially Anirudha Mainkar who took 4/61 in 12 overs. The match was declared drawn but it was definitely Priyank’s attacking ton which caught everyone’s attention.

Played at the New Hind Sports Club, Dadkar Maidan, it was a match between two big teams Payyade SC and New Hind SC where in New Hind won the toss and elected to bowl first in order to restrict the opposition to a low total.

However, Payyade SC batted really well scoring 307runs in their 1st innings in 65.4 overs. Attacking opener Harsh Tank took on the bowlers from the word ‘go’ as he counter attacked everyone en route his 186 coming off just 174balls. Right-handed Harsh smashed 15fours and 7sixes while equally did good running between the wickets. In fact it was Harsh’s batting which helped them score 300+ or else the rest of the batsman just managed to score in their 20’s and 30’s. Parikshit Valsangkar bowled well taking 4/80 in 20 overs.

In reply, New Hind were all out for just 203 runs in 56.3 overs. Even though the top 3 failed, Bhavin Thakkar at no.4 scored 81* off 135balls to keep the hopes alive. Bhavin lacked support from the other end or they could have managed to atleast draw the match. Kalpesh Sawant and Rohan Raje were the pick of the bowlers taking 4 & 3wkts respectively. Payyade SC won the match by 104 runs on 1st innings and Harsh Tank’s batting was definitely an eye opener to the cricketing circles that he has a appetite for scoring big as this was not the 1st instance where he scored big.

It was the all important finals between two teams who have fought their way hard to reach the ultimate face off namely Al-Barkat MMI & Rizvi Springfield High school at the cross maidan where in Al Barkat boys won the toss and elected to bat first in order to make a big total and put the opposition under pressure.

Batting first, Al Barkat scored a decent 97/4 in 15 overs which is defendable though a score of 110+ could have done no harm! Opener Shadak Khan was the highest scorer as he scored 46 off just 28balls (2fours, 2sixes) to steer his team to atleast 90+ . Saad Sheik bowled well taking 2wkts while the rest of the bowlers also did a fairly decent job.

Chasing 98 at 6runs+ per over, opener Faizan Rabbani from Rizvi Springfield took the responsibility of chasing on his shoulders as he scored a match winning 60* off just 42balls(7fours, 2sixes) which helped his team chase down the score successfully. Faizan played confidently and anchored his team’s chase as they won the match comfortably by 8wkts and 8balls to spare while Faizan was declared ‘player of the match’. The police shield tournament witnessed an excellent perfomance right on its opening day as Prashant Bhoir ran through the entire batting line up with his fast bowling. Played between MIG CC and DY Patil at the National CC, cross maidan, DY Patil won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Made to bat first, DY were spot on with their decision as they restricted MIG CC to just 112 runs in 32.4overs. The entire top order failed to give a good start with Siddarth Chitnis at no.5 and Sahil madhgaonkar at no.9 top scored with 36 & 39 respectively. Right arm fast bowler Prashant Bhoir was excellent in his line and length as he came up with match winning bowling figures of 5/29 in 9 overs. Prashant hit the deck hard and generated consistent pace to trouble the batsman while experienced bowler Pravin Tambe chipped in with 3/22 in 7.4 overs.

In reply, DY Patil scored 114/5 in 27.3overs and chased down the score comfortably. DY Patil won the match by 5wkts and it was definitely pacer Prashant Bhoir whose bowling remained the highlight perfomance of the match. Since many years, Police Shield Tournament is conducted annually and this has turned out to be one of the most respected and high profile tournaments of Mumbai. Over the years, we have got to see numerous performances and numerous talents coming out from this tournament. The teams are top notch, the competition is intense and all eyes are on your perfomance when you are participating in this tournament.

In fact the Police Shield Tournament has become a breeding ground for professional talented cricketers as they whole heartedly get an opportunity to showcase their talent. The opening ceremony was conducted today on 28th october at the Mumbai Police Gymkhana as the tournament kickstarted under various esteemed guests of the Mumbai police including the (ACP) Assistant commissioner of police and various other dignitaries showering their presence.

 

Some bowling spells come once in a blue moon, like Pathan’s hat trick against Pakistan or Malinga’s 4wkts in 4balls or Chaminda Vaas’s 8/19 vs Zimbabwe or Kumble’s all 10wkts in an innings vs Pakistan. Well, It would be an exaggeration to compare this perfomance with those international ones but what Sail did against Sporting CC was nothing short of awe inspiring which took everyone’s attention.

Held at the Payyade Sports Club in Kandivali, Sporting CC won the toss and elected to bat first to put PDTSA under pressure. However, Sporting CC were bundled out for just 123runs in 53.3 overs where in Soham Pawar top scored with 34. Sail Dawane and Adwait Palsule were the pick of the bowlers taking 3wkts each. In reply, PDTSA were bundled out for 95runs in their 1st innings where in Dhir Thakker and Soham Pawar were the pick of the bowlers with 4/13 and 3/14 respectively.

In the 2nd innings, Little did they knew on the storm which was about to come as PDTSA restricted Sporting CC to just 90/all out in 38.1 overs. The bowler who was responsible for that damage was PDTSA’s left arm spinner Sail Dawane who went through the entire batting order of Sporting CC as he came up with stunning bowling figures of 8/17 in 10.1 overs (4maidens). Chinaman Sail bowled in the right areas and kept on troubling the batsman with his consistent spin which reaped him rewards. PDTSA successfully chased down the score as they scored 119/6 in 26.4 overs and won the match by 4wkts. Ayush Vaity (34) and Sail Dawane(34*) were the top scorers. PDTSA won the match but it was Sail with his 11wkt haul and an unbeaten 34* who will remain the standout performer in the match. Played at the Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana in Mumbai, two teams full of young prodigies namely Sachin Tendulkar XI and Sunil Gavaskar XI clashed against each other where in Sunil Gavaskar XI won the toss and elected to bat first in order to make a big score and put the opposition under pressure.

Batting first, Sunil Gavaskar XI were skittled out for just 130/10 in 48.4 overs. Left-arm spinner Sahil Shetty and Kanak Kini were the pick of the bowlers with 4/18 and 3/25 respectively. Sachin Tendulkar XI on the other had were also bundled out for just 98 runs in 50.2 overs where in prolific run scorer of this year Vedprakash jaiswal once again stamped his authority scoring more than half of the runs with a gritty 48. Left-arm spinner Musheer Khan made full use of the pitch as he scalped a terrific 5wkt haul coming up with excellent bowling figures of 5/15. Musheer bowled really well and he is certainly growing leaps and bounds as a proper all rounder.

Gavaskar XI in the 2nd innings fought back as they scored 246/7 declare in 86 overs. Left-handed Skipper Pragnesh Kanpillewar scored a captain’s innings as he scored a match winning 76 off 130balls which included 10fours and a six. As Pragnesh shared with Cricketgraph “the wicket was slow and ball was turning, initially ball was not coming on to the bat…..but after staying on the pitch for some time…we adapted to the situation” Tanmay Bhuram and Musheer Khan also gave important contributions with the bat as they scored 42 and 40 respectively. Gavaskar boys did an equally good job with the ball too in the 2nd innings as they restricted Tendulkar’s XI to 175/10 in 63 overs and won the match by 103runs. Right-arm leg break bowler Satyam Chaudhary once again proved his talent with the ball as he bagged 6/53 in 17overs. Satyam has evolved as a bowler in the last one year and you can certainly see that he is made for the bigger things in the time to come while Yash Jathar supported well taking 4/37. Satyam also had the same thing to say like his skipper when he spoke to Cricketgraph “ that the wicket was slow and the ball was not turning initially but after some time the ball started turning, the wicket later on was definately more in the favor of the batsman
