Bravish has over the years proved his capabilities with the bat, he has the right amount of patience, aggression, power and resilience which are all crucial in the making of a world class batsman. In the match played between Reliance and A.G (L&R) at the MB Union cross maidan, A.G won the toss and elected to field first with an aim of restricting the opposition to a low total.

However, it wasn’t the best of the decisions as Reliance were all out for just 200runs in 63.2 overs with Sachin and Aditya top scoring 32 & 40 respectively. Off Spinner Jeff Perreira bowled a tremendous bowling spell of 6/37 in 19.2 overs which did the maximum damage. Jeff bowled in excellent line and length as he bowled in the right areas taking wickets at regular intervals which reaped good results for him as well as his team.

In reply, A.G (L&R) displayed their might with the bat as they scored a mammoth 641/8 in 148 overs. Openers Srujan and all-rounder Jeff gave a terrific start with their half centuries while Bravish who came in at no.3 made full use of the positive momemtum left behind by the openers. Right-handed Bravish scored a flashy 214 off just 170balls smashing 25fours and 6sixes to take on the bowlers. Bravish’s batting was a pure treat to the eyes as he played some amazing cricketing shots en-route his aggressive double ton. Nikhil Patil who came just below Bravish also scored an impressive 105 to support bravish. Kunal Mathure who came in at no.7 scored an impressive unbeaten 101* as he solidified the middle order with his elegant batting. A.G(L&R) won the match handsomely on 1st innings and it was definitely Bravish who stood out. Jeff’s all-round show, Nikhil and Kunal’s tons were also equally commendable!

We hardly come across wicket-keeper batsmen who are equally consistent with the bat as wicket-keeping is itself a tough job. You need to be on your toes all the time, you have to jump, dive, stay flexible and alert throughout the duration of the match. Hence, a lot of physical and mental energy gets dedicated to these skills alone that you can’t expect a keeper to score big runs or play consistently at an average at which Dhoni plays which is a rarity for keepers. Hence, when you see a 22yr old keeper scoring a mammoth score of 279, there has to be some special talent!

Mairaj Khan who took 7/52 and while also scored a crucial 68 at the middle order

Yogesh Dicholkar who took 3/99 while also scored an unbeaten 100*

The amount of patience, resilience and consistency at which Akash played was simply impressive and this is not the 1st time he has impressed the cricketing community as a genuine wicket keeper batsman with such classy knocks. Mairaj and Yogesh’s all round perfomance and Ninad’s supporting 152 were also equally commendable in the match.

Played at the Union Cricket Academy Ground,  it was a match between two promising teams namely KC Gandhi and SHA Rais High school where in S.H.A Rais won the toss and elected to bat first with an aim of making a big 1st innings total.

However, they were in for a surprise as KC Gandhi bowlers restricted them to just 73runs all out in 23.4 overs where in their no.3 Aves top scored with a fighting 34. All-rounders Jaycool Girase and Akash Singh bowled really well as they took 2 & 3wkts each. Atharva also bowled taking 2wkts. While Jaycool’s bowling figures read 2/8 in 4overs, Off- Spinner Aakash came up with stunning bowling figures of 3/2 in 3overs (1maiden). It was a collectively tight bowling which helped them to restrict the opposition to a low total.

Chasing a total of 73 was a mere formality for KC Gandhi boys as the star bowlers of KC in this match also did their job with the bat too. Jaycool and Akash chased down the score in mere 9 overs with Jaycool remaining unbeaten on 31* off 27balls (4fours) while Akash remaining 41* off mere 30deliveries (7fours, 1six). KC Gandhi school won the match in a commanding manner by 10wkts & it was definitely these two boys Jaycool and Akash who stood out with their all-round perfomance.

Dangerous openers are always a threat to the opposition as they can create a good momentum at the start of the innings if batting first or they can change the game single handedly in their team’s favor if they are chasing. Right handed opener Ateet Agarwal was one such example who literally took on the bowlers right from the start helping his team post a big total.

Played at the National CC, Cross Maidan, Nomura Nitros and Infinity took on each other where in Nomura won the toss and elected to bat first. Batting first, they got off to a terrific start with the help of their opener Ateet as he went on to score 98 off mere 59 deliveries (13fours). Ateet’s knock was a mixture of aggression and patience as he also did good running between the wickets. Ateet fell just 2runs short of a deserving ton while Humaid Sheikh was the 2nd highest scorer with 41*(26b) taking their team total to a healthy 212/3 in 20 overs.

Chasing a mammoth total of 213 at almost 11runs per over, Infiniti must have felt the pressure of chasing as they managed to score only 97/7 in 20 overs against the tight bowling of Nomura bowlers. All the bowlers did an impressive job but it was Gautam Gupta was the pick of the bowlers with impressive bowling figures of 3/7 in 3 overs (1maiden). Nomura Nitros won the match by 115runs and Ateet Agarwal was rightly declared ‘man of the match’ for his match winning 98 off 59balls.

Cricket Coaching methods and pattern.

How we look at today’s cricket and its coaching pattern or style.

There are few aspects of the game, we could stick to one for its brief understanding. So I have chosen batting randomly.

The world right now witnesses 6 top world class batters as per my knowledge and understanding. No discrimination or bias judgement it solely relying on my years of playing and coaching experiences.

Just to make the point clear the batsman we are talking about are Virat Kohli, Joe Root, Faf Du plessis, Steve Smith, Kane Williamson and Dinesh Chandimal.

I know quite a few won’t go with my best 6, let me clear that this article is not about whose the best batsmen in the world.

The point we would be discussing here is that all the batters quoted above are quite different in the way they perform the art of batting. They all are quite successful and different in their approach, pattern, style in which they bat.

So what would be the best way for a youngster to learn the art of batting, whom does he follow. Some might say pick the one close to the way the learner plays or has modelled his game as per his role model.

All the coaching manuals and courses aren’t close to any of the above mentioned players. What they have been learning at their academies or institutions would differ to their role models style or pattern of playing.

What’s the solution earlier we planned to set a course which could have a base of coaching all the players in a similar way and then we explained them that all the players are different and have their unique way to perform his skills.

The courses have been twisted and tilted as per the requirement of the institutions and not based on research.
If a batsman would score plenty of runs that season everyone would give his example and ask others to copy his style or pattern of playing.

What would be an ideal coaching manual, how would it help the youngsters to develop into a independent thinking cricketer or athlete. The role of the coaches would keep changing from a beginner, amateur to professional.

Hope the current governing body could develop something where the module is based more on understanding and awareness programme as this sports need constant changes as per the requirement of each ball the batter faces.

On a serious note what’s happening in today’s coaching is more to do with personal pattern and experience of individual players who have turned coaches.

What we can learn from the above mentioned players top 6 players is that they all are aggressive and wants to win matches for their teams.
They have leadership qualities and their own system to improvise, what works best for them.

We need to develop a system which will enhance the individual growth and leadership qualities. Whether they are batters or bowlers.

What I feel is there has to be a basic guidance about any skills involve in the game related to balance and stability, moving onto transfer of weight. Then comes the surface on which they would be playing or performing the skill. Example the pace and bounce of the wicket. Specific pattern to play different format of the game. (Test, ODI,T20)
Attitude or mentality to approach towards any format of the game.i.e. Mental part of the game(courage and confidence)

There should be few patterns and rules to develop cricketers at different stages of their career.
Primary or beginners, Amateur and professionals or we could put it as age cricketer, club cricketer and state or national level cricketers.

The whole idea is not to criticise the current coaching pattern or system, but to think over what we have been doing and how much practically is it helping us develop the game of cricket or cricketers.

All the sports around the world has gone through various changes not just in playing but also the way it’s been coached.

Coming back to batting could we initiate some research and draw a plan to simplify the coaching methods.
Teach them the skills and differentiate between the talent and hardworking players.
There are no odd players out there everyone has worked out the best system which works for him from Mr Chanderpaul to Mr Amla.

This article is more for awareness and understanding for coaches, players , parents and institutions to take a note about the changes happening in the game.
The dynamics of the games have changed from 180 to 360 degree. So we can’t stay with our earlier fundamentals and basics.

While Ayush needs no introduction as far as his cricketing skills and cricketing journey is concerned. One of the most prolific all-rounders in the Mumbai cricketing circuit continued to pitch his form in the Giles Shield too where the opponents got a taste of his class while on the other Anish More displayed some exceptional batting skills as he also went on to make an aggressive double ton which helped his team give a tough fight.

Played between Parle Tilak Vidya Mandir and Swami Vivekanand International School at the Islam Gymkhana Ground. Parle Tilak won the toss and elected to bat first since the wicket was good to bat on. Opening the innings with the little genius Sanskar, Anish went on to score a fabulous double hundred which was full of great cricketing shots and a great degree of resilience. Opener Anish anchored the innings till the end as he remained unbeaten scoring 211* off just 237 deliveries which included 38 boundaries. Right-handed Anish also got a good partner in talented Ayan Pathan with whom he stitched a great partnership of 247runs. Ayan fell just 3runs short of a deserving ton as he was dismissed on 97 off 174balls (15fours). But the damage was already done as these two took their team total to a healthy 372/3 in 87 overs.

Defending a total of 372, PTVA definitely had the upper hand but SVIS had its trump card in Ayush who showed the opposition why his wicket is so crucial and how dangerous he can be. Even though the openers fell early, Ayush came in at no.3 and went on to score a marathon innings of 242 off just 202balls. Usually, most of the teams fail to chase such a big total or look for a draw but Ayush took on the bowlers with sheer dominance as he smashed 36fours en-route his swashbuckling double ton. Apart from him, Ayush Vartak also chipped in with a half century helping their team chase down the total successfully. SVIS won the match by 5wkts and Ayush who scored his 1st double ton engineered the victory for his team.
