The Men’s Inaugural President’s Cup 2023 was underway on the 11th of February 2023. The tournament was organised across all club divisions to provide opportunities for players in the metropolitan’s vicinity. Played at Karnataka SC in the Cross maidan, Pandurangwai CC and Rajasthan SC competed in a thrilling low scoring game as the former managed to prevail with a thin margin over its competitor.

After winning the toss, Rajasthan SC elected to chase as Pandurangwadi padded up but their innings lasted for just 17.1 overs as they were bowled out for just 88 runs on board. Roshan Pal high-scored with 29 runs as there minor contributions. It was safe to say, the bowler’s enjoyed their time with the ball. Ganesh Alwe claimed 3 wickets in 4 overs as Pratik Yadav, Prasad Singote and Yash Kripal picked up 2 wicket each. With a splendid group effort, Rajasthan SC had a massive advantage by end of the first innings.

Rajasthan SC set out to chase 89 in 20 overs but the Pandurangwadi bowler’s were committed to turn the tides their way. As the run chase began, Rajsthan SC lost timely wickets as half the side was down for 60 by the 12th over but with just 29 runs more to get, the game was still tilted towards them. Soon the Pandurangwadi were about to turn the game upside down. Subodh Chhabria and Pratik Mayekar were brought into the attack later in the game. Just when things were looking good for Rajasthan, Chhabria and Mayekar started taking wickets one by one in the second half of the run chase. Ultimately, Rajasthan SC lost their spare 5 wickets for just 15 runs as they were bowled out for 75 in the 17th over.

The Pandurangwadi bowlers managed to keep things tight throughout despite the batters scoring at a decent rate. Pratik Mayekar’s 2 overs created carnage as he picked up 3 wickets and gave away just 3 runs at a crucial stage but the pick of the bowlers was the leggie Subodh Chhabria who claimed 4 wickets in 3 overs conceding just 5 runs. Apart from them, Jitesh Tank, Atul Chavan and Nayan Jadhav bowled tight spells to contain the batsmen.

Ultimately, Pandurangwadi won a low scoring thriller by just 13 runs.

Mumbai, February 10: Mumbai Blasters cruised to a fluent 6-wicket win against Mumbai Unicorns in a third round match of the Mumbai Cricket Association organized President Cup women’s T20 cricket tournament, played at the Wankhede Stadium, Churchgate.

Deciding to bat first Mumbai Unicorns batswomen failed to get going and were dismissed for just 89 runs in 19.3 overs. Disciplined bowling performance from Mumbai Blasters off-spinners Janhvi Kate who claimed 3 wickets for 9 runs and Himja Patil who took 2 wickets for 13 runs restricted the opposition to a low total.

Later, steady batting from Tanisha Gaikwad 28 runs and Hurley Gala 20 runs ensured Mumbai Blasters surpassed the winning target reaching a total of 93 for 4 wickets in 17.2 overs.

In the second match, Mumbai Thunders clinched their third consecutive win defeating Mumbai Warriors by 20 runs. A solid batting effort from Simran Shaikh who top-scored with 74 runs propelled Mumbai Thunders to a fighting total of 141 for 5 wickets from their 20 overs. Simran’s 54-ball innings was studded with 12 hits to the boundary ropes and a solitary six. Humaria Kazi added 25 runs to the scoreboard. Kshama Patekar 2 for 23 and Jagravi Pawar 2 for 30 were the two impressive Mumbai Warriors bowlers.

In response, Mumbai Warriors managed to reach 121 for 8 wickets from their quota of 20 overs. Sharvi Save 26 runs, Saloni Kushte 24 runs and Mansi Patil 20 runs tried to keep Warriors in the chase, but they fell short of the target. Niyati Jagtap claimed 3 wickets for 19 runs which helped secure their 20 runs victory.

Mumbai: Parsee Gymkhana sailed into the semi-finals defeating hosts Bombay Gymkhana by seven wickets in first round match of the Bombay Gymkhana Ltd. organized Nirlon-R.F.S.-Talyarkhan Memorial Invitation Cricket Tournament 2022-2023 and played at the Bombay Gymkhana ground, late Thursday night.

Former champions Parsee Gymkhana electing to field first, bowled well to restrict Bombay Gymkhana to a reasonable total of 131 all out in 20 overs. The Bombay Gymkhana innings was boosted, courtesy the composed half century effort from Pranav Kela who scored a 43-ball 52 runs with five boundaries. Ashay Dubey was the next best batsman who made a contribution of 21 runs. Parsee Gymkhana’s Sagar Udesh 3 for 19, Shams Mulani 2 for 23 were the main bowlers who claimed most of the wickets.

Chasing a modest target for victory, Parsee Gymkhana lost the top three batsmen before cruising past the finish line making 134 for the loss of 3 wickets in 16.5 overs. Parsee Gymkhana opening bat Kevin D’Almeida scored 33 runs, Aditya Tare chipped in with 24 runs and Sachin Yadav remained unbeaten on 33 runs to steer the team to the 7-wicket victory and a place in the semi-finals.

In the penultimate round, Parsee Gymkhana will meet the winners of the match to be played between last year’s runners-up MIG Colts and Islam Gymkhana.

Mumbai: P.J. Hindu Gymkhana were a disciplined lot and kept their cool as they picked up crucial wickets at opportune moments which helped to snatch a tight 18-run victory against a fighting Mumbai Police Gymkhana in a thrilling first round match of the Bombay Gymkhana Ltd. organized Nirlon-R.F.S.-Talyarkhan Memorial Invitation Cricket Tournament 2022-2023 and played at the Bombay Gymkhana ground.

Sent in to bat, Hindu Gymkhana posted a substantial total of 211 runs for 6 wickets from their quota of 20 overs. Left-handed middle order bat Vinayak Bhoir propped the inning with a cracking 37-ball unbeaten 62 runs which included eight boundaries and one solid six. Bhoir was ably supported by Yogesh Dongare 34 runs (18balls, 1x4s, 3x6s) to swell the total. Sangram Bhalekar (3 for 28) and Ravindra Solanki (2 for 26) were the successful Mumbai Police bowlers.

Chasing a mammoth target to win, Mumbai Police put up a good fight but fell short as they could only manage to score 193 for 8 wickets from 20 overs.

Mumbai Police started in whirlwind fashion with opening bat Eknath Kerkar smashing the first balls to the ropes, but when he slashed at the next delivery from medium pacer Aishwarya Surve he was out to a spectacular catch by a diving Vishwajit Jagdale in the gully. Hindu Gymkhana claimed two more wickets to leave Mumbai Police tottering at 31 for 3 inside the third over.

Thereafter, Sagar Mishra 71 runs (46-balls, 6x4s, 3x6s), Swapnil Kulaye 56 runs (39-balls, 8x4s) were rock solid and put the innings back on track and were associated in a 122-run partnership for the fourth wicket, and which raised their hopes of overhauling the winning target. Hindu Gymkhana bowlers stayed focused and were rewarded with wickets at regular intervals which restricted their rivals and to clinch a worthy victory. Junaid Khan (3 for 29) and Rahul Sawant (3 for 33) were responsible for getting the Mumbai Police wickets.

Mumbai, February 9: An impressive all-round performance from Vrushali Bhagat was the highlight of Mumbai Thunders facile 45-run victory over Mumbai Blasters in a second round match of the Mumbai Cricket Association organized President Cup women’s T20 cricket tournament, played at the Wankhede Stadium, Churchgate.

Batting lower down the order Vrushali played a responsible knock scoring 44 runs from 30 balls which contained 5 superb hits to the boundary ropes. Besides Vrsuhali some of the other batswomen failed to convert the starts into big scores and their innings closed at 114 for 6 wickets from their quota of 20 overs. Blasters blowers Janhhvi Kate (2 for 16) and Sayali Satghare (2 for 23) got the wickets.

In reply, Mumbai Blasters batters were unable to stay focused and lost wickets at regular intervals and were dismissed for a measly 69 runs in 18.3 overs. Opener Riya Chaudhari showed some solidity with the bat and was the top-scorer with 29 runs. The remaining batswomen were unable to negotiate the rival bowlers and gave away their wickets very cheaply. The pick of the Thunders bowling was Humaira Kazi (3 for 4), Niyati Jagtap (3 for 18) and Vrushali Bhagat (2 for 6) which helped seal their big win and second in the tournament.

In another match, Mumbai Warriors charged to a 9-wicket win against Mumbai Unicorns.

Batting first, Mumbai Unicorns were bundled out for a meager 67 runs in 18.1 overs. Later, Mumbai Warriors easily reached the winning target making 71 runs for the loss of one wicket in 10.3 overs. Sanika Chalke scored an unbeaten 38 runs.

Mumbai: Solid unbeaten batting performances from Anand Bais 75 not out and Akash Anand 49 not out powered defending champions Cricket Club of India (CCI) to a comfortable 9-wicket win against Nirlon SC (Sponsors XI) in a first round match on the opening day of the Bombay Gymkhana Ltd. organized Nirlon-R.F.S. Talyarkhan Memorial Invitation Cricket Tournament 2022-2023.

CCI electing to field first dismissed Nirlon for 138 in 19.4 overs. The steady batting from Sourabh Singh 44 runs and Dev Patel 39 runs lifted the Nirlon innings. CCI bowlers Prathamesh Dake (3/21), Parikshit Valsangkar (2/18) and Badre Alam (2/23) were responsible for taking the wickets.

In response, CCI suffered an early setback when opener Ayush Zimre was dismissed caught behind off Nipun Panchal in the second over and with just 14 runs on the board. However, thereafter, the two CCI batters got down to business and played some powerful shots all over the park and with an unbroken 125 run partnership for the second wicket, quickly ensured their team crossed the finish line making 139 for the loss of one wickets in just 11 overs.

Bais was aggressive throughout and his hurricane knock came from just 32 balls with an equal number of six hits to the ropes and over the ropes. Anand was solid during his 31-ball knock which included seven boundaries and one six.

Mumbai, February 8: Mumbai Thunders charged past Mumbai Unicorns by recording a thumping 88-run win in a first round match of the Mumbai Cricket Association organized MCA President’s Cup women’s T20 cricket tournament, played at the Wankhede Stadium, Churchgate. The captains of the four participating teams were motivated to do well as MCA President Amol Kale greeted them ahead of the MCA President’s Cup women’s T20 cricket tournament.

Batting first, Thunders amassed a challenging total of 136 for the loss of four wickets. Simran Shaikh 29 runs, Vrushali Bhagat 28 runs, Humairaa Kazi 28 runs and Tushi Shah 20 runs contributed to the total. In replay, Mumbai Unicorns batters failed miserably and were bowled out for a measly 48 runs in 15 overs and surrendered the match to Thunders by a huge margin.

In the second match, Mumbai Warriors snatched a close 19 runs victory against Mumbai Blasters. Batting first Warriors scored 143 for 5 wickets from 20 overs. Middle-order batswoman Sarvi Save was unbeaten on 44 runs and all-rounder Fatima Jaffer scored 28 runs. Later, Mumbai Blasters were restricted to a 124 for 8 wickets in their 20 overs. Opener Riya Chaudhari was the only batter to make a solid 61 runs which went in vain as there was no support from the other batswomen and the innings fell short of the target. Nirmiti Rane (3/22) and Fatima Jaffer (2/14) picked up the wickets.

Vedant Gore packed a punch with a stellar 245 off 115 against Cricket Mantra Jr during the MD Memorial Cup U14 Cricket Tournament in Mumbai. Gore, the captain of Abhay Cricket Club, led from the front and steered his side to a massive 280-run win.

Batting first, Abhay Cricket Club piled up a mammoth 363/5 in 36 overs. Vedant Gore dazzled with the bat with a scintillating double century. He struck 34 boundaries and 12 sixes, batting at number three. On the other hand, Raivath Yadav and captain Arjun Kadam were the most successful bowlers for Cricket Mantra Jr with two wickets apiece.

In reply, Cricket Mantra Jr were bundled out cheaply for 83 in 21.1 overs. Shlojk Deshmukh top-scored with 19 off 28, including a couple of boundaries for Cricket Mantra Jr. With the ball, it was again Vedant Gore who wreaked havoc, picking up 34/6 in eight overs. Gore bowled a couple of maiden overs too.
Vedant Gore won the player of the match award for his brilliant all-round performance.

Uday Kolambe of Tata Power had a brilliant outing with the bat against Bombay Mercantile Bank during the Times Shield. 

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Tata Power posted 214/7 in 38 overs. Uday Kolambe, batting at number four, top-scored with a 50-ball 63, including seven hits to the fence. Akhand Singh chipped in with a 75-ball 58 for Tata Power. 

In reply, Bombay Mercantile Bank were restricted to 182/6 in 38 overs and lost the match by 32 runs. Mohammad Adil fought hard for his 67. However, his effort went in vain as his team could not cross the line. On the other hand, Uday Kolambe was the pick of the bowlers for Tata Power as he claimed 34/2 in eight overs.

Sarang Sports Invitational Cricket Tournament is set to start from the 17th February 2023. Organized by Sarang Sports Event Management, the tournament is made for the U-15 boys category and will be contested at Shivaji Park in Dadar and Oval Maidan at Churchgate.

The tournament will host 8 teams, divided in 2 groups of 4. The teams are as follows:

Group A:
1. Bhosale Cricket Academy
2. SVIS Borivali- A
3. Bravo Cricket Academy
4. G.P.C.C

Group B:
1. VS Cricket Academy
2. RBCA
3. SVIS Borivali – B
4. Our’s Cricket Academy

Every team will play a minimum of 3 games as the top 2 from every group will qualify for the semi-finals.

The tournament is scheduled to initiate on 17th February and will conclude under a month’s time on the 14th of March 2023.

AUCTIONS
