Mumbai: Shivaji Park Gymkhana’s opening batsman Siddhant Singh’s stroke-filled 65-ball century knock 105 runs (15×4,2×6) went in vain as a determined Mumbai Police City Riders produced a solid fight and snatched a tense 3-run victory in the eight and concluding round match of the Mumbai Cricket Club (MCC) and Jwala Sports Foundation (JSF) organized MitsuiShoji T20 Cricket League (Season 9), played at the Police Gymkhana ground, Marine Drive on Tuesday.

Opting to field first, the Shivaji Park bowlers were unable to contain the Mumbai Police batsmen who batted freely and went on to amass a massive total of 194 for 2 wickets from their 20 overs. Opener Aakarshit Gomel top-scored with a solid innings of 84 (56-balls, 4×4,7×6) while Sagar Mishra 50 runs (32-balls, 4×4,3×6) and Tanmay Mayekar 40 runs (24-balls, 4×4,3×6) helped swell the Mumbai Police total. Later, Shivaji Park Warriors started the chase in a positive fashion with Siddhant Singh leading the way with a solid knock. Jayesh Pokhre 39 runs (28-balls, 5×4,1×6) and Puneet Tripathi 21 runs kept Warriors hopes alive, but the Mumbai Police players stayed calm and did well to restrict the opponents to 191 for 5 from their 20 overs.

In the last league match, Bandra Heroes defeated Thane Marathas by 8 runs. Batting first Bandra Heroes scored 191 for 8 wickets in 20 overs and then managed to restrict Thane Marathas to 183 for 6 wickets in 20 overs.

Shivaji Park Warriors who suffered their first defeat stayed at the top with 14 points while Mumbai Police who registered their fifth successive win finished in second position with 10 points followed by Ghatkopar Jets with 8 points. Thane Marathas and Bandra Heroes both tallied identical 4 points each, but the latter with a better run quotient claimed the fourth position, while Bandra Heroes finished in the fifth place. The top four teams advanced to the semi-finals.

In a one-sided contest, Sahgal Cricket Club began with a victory in the 48th All India Goswami Ganesh Dutt Cricket Tournament. The tournament between Sahgal Cricket Club and Players Academy kicked off today to boost the enthusiasm of the players. Chief guests Shri Pawan Gulati, Treasurer of DDCA, Shri Rajan Manchanda, Secretary of DDCA, Shri Ashok Sharma, Director of DDCA, Manish Agarwal, President of Roshanara Club, and Shri Kimti Lal, Director of Kimti Sports, graced the inauguration of the tournament, enhancing the grandeur and excitement of the players.

Players Academy won the toss and opted to bowl first. Mohit Ahlawat’s explosive batting scored an unbeaten 145 runs (81 balls), accompanied by Deepak Khatri’s 64 runs (32 balls), Laksh Thareja’s 58 runs (45 balls), and captain Mohammad Sultan Ansari’s 56 runs (37 balls). With their contributions, the team set a target of 392 runs in 40 overs.

From Players Academy, Naman Gupta took 2 wickets, giving away 64 runs in 7 overs.

From Players Academy, Vedansh Siotia scored 102 runs off 85 balls, well-supported by Aryan Gaur with 82 runs off 69 balls. However, they fell short by 120 runs from the target, managing to score only 272 runs.

Aayush Nilesh Warankar emerged as the highest scorer for CCI with a gritty knock of 22 runs off 39 deliveries. Despite his efforts, the rest of the batting lineup struggled to find their rhythm against the disciplined bowling attack of U-13 Home Ground.

Yuvraj Merchant was the standout performer with the ball for U-13 Home Ground, claiming two wickets for 31 runs in his four-over spell. His accurate line and length troubled the CCI batsmen and created pressure on them throughout the innings. Merchant’s ability to extract movement off the pitch proved to be crucial in restricting the opposition to a modest total.

In pursuit of 95 runs to secure victory, U-13 Home Ground displayed a dominant performance, reaching the target without losing a single wicket. Shaan Doshi led the charge with an impressive unbeaten knock of 58 runs off 53 balls, including eight boundaries. Doshi’s elegant stroke play and impeccable timing left the CCI bowlers searching for answers.

Partnering with Doshi was Ahaan Sharma, who provided a steady contribution with the bat.
