Remember that Historic test between India and Sri Lanka in 1997 at the R Premdasa Stadium in Colombo? Yes the same match where the then power Lankans posted the highest ever total in Test history amassing 952runs in a single innings for the loss of 6wkts with the dangerous Jayasuriya smashing 340 along with 2nd innings craftsmen Roshan Mahanama hitting 225 off a record 561 deliveries. A 576run stand between them was also a record etched forever!

Well a similar story happened at the local level in Delhi cricket where in Tomar Cricket Academy headed by Sanjay Tomar took on the New Heroes Club where in Tomar Cricket Academy won the toss and elected to bat first. Little did they knew that this will be a day which will bring them in news all over as they amassed a 1st innings team total of 958/8dec in 155overs batting first. Simant Rawat opening the innings went on to score a breath taking 281 off mere 273balls smashing 46fours and 2sixes. Though he got good support but that was not the end of the show. Talented Mayank Pal who came at no.4 took the breath away as he was solid as a war tank completely indestructible smashing a mammoth 342* off 355balls laced with 60fours and 3sixes. What’s more! Mayank also stitched a 500+ runs stand for 4th wicket with Simant which took the game away from New Heroes. If you think that was it, still hold on your seatbelts as Devashish who came at no.8 gave the finishing touch with a timely 192 off 219balls while stitching another 8th wicket partnership of around 180 runs which took Tomar Cricket Academy to one of the highest totals registered in Delhi Local Cricket. None of the bowlers could ruffle the feathers of Mayank as he kept on batting till the end covering every corner of the ground with grace while Simant and Devashish were equally impressive.

New Heroes Club in return were 63/3 before the one-off Friendship Test series ended in a draw. This has to be one of the highlight matches of2018 with a superlative unbeaten triple ton by Mayank Pal (342*) followed by excellent batting by Simant Rawat (281) and Devashish (192).

Credit also goes to coach Sanjay Tomar and his academy where he guides and works hard on players to extract the best perfomances out of them.

Just fresh from one of the fastest triple hundreds of Baroda a few days ago, Paramveer Ghelani-the little genius continues his stellar form in the U/14 2day D.K Gaekwad Tournament and this time it was Shreyas Academy this time which had to face the batting wraith of the little dynamo Paramveer Ghelani.

Played between DSCA & Shreyas Academy at the 1 Cricket Ground, Vadodara, Shreyas Academy won the toss and elected to field first despite knowing the fact that DSCA have a very solid and strong batting line up. DSCA batting first made a healthy total of 368/8dec in 68overs which is a very good 1st innings total. Left-handed opener Paramveer Ghelani who is in smashing form continued his form from where he left behind a few days ago as he went on to score a dominating 195 off 207balls. Paramveer once again took total control of his team’s innings playing confidently at a strike rate of almost 95.00 while also hitting 38boundaries. The rest of the batsman chipped in but could not convert the starts.

On the other hand, Shreyas Academy is struggling at 36/5 before it was stumps (Day end) on Day 1 got over. DSCA seems to be in command and looks all set for a yet another dominating win on the back of Paramveer’s massive ton.

May is the penultimate month of Cricket in Indian and especially in Mumbai. After a grueling season which begins from January itself, May is the 5th and the last month of the cricketing season with major MCA and non MCA tournaments getting over. Hence there are a lot of matches which are played in this month with over 400 recognized matches played in Mumbai for the month of May 2018. Hence, if a player makes it into the top 5, that is definitely a big deal worth an accolade!

Here are the Top 5 Knocks in Mumbai Cricket for the month of May ’18

Joint 5th– Aditya Anand (RHB) 169*-Kalpesh Koli Tournament ‘18

Played at the New Hind SC, Dadkar Maidan, it was a match between U/16 Azad team and U/16 Shivaji Park, we just got a glimpse of one rising talent in the name of Aditya Anand from the Azad team.

After batting first, U/16 Azad Maidan team scored a massive total of 379/4 declare and the major reason for such a big total was their right handed opener Aditya Anand. Aditya gave a flying start going to score a composed yet dominating 169* off 203deliveries which had 27fours and a six to take the game away from the opposition. Aditya took on almost every bowlers and looked thoroughly impressive anchoring the innings till the very end.

U/16 Shivaji Park were in return skittled out for 170runs all out in 1st innings while struggling at 37/5 in their 2nd innings after a follow on.It was a dominating win for the U/16 Azad Maidan team and both the Aditya’s are grabbing attention in the cricketing community.

5th– Roneet Thakkur (RHB) 193 -MCA U/14 Selection Tournament ‘18

Roneet Thakur is one such name who has taken the Mumbai Cricket by storm. Just fresh from a ton and a fifer in the same match, he was not done yet and continues to impress the selectors without a doubt not only as a player to get selected but the one who can lead from the front too. Played at the Young Zorastrian CC, Azad Maidan, two really good teams U/14 Goregaon and U/14 Dombivali took on each other where in U/14 Goregaon Team won the toss and elected to bat first on the back of their strong batting depth.

Opening the innings,  Awais Khan engaged in solid batting strengthning the top order game for Goregaon as he went on to score a elegant 129 off 193balls laced with 15fours while stitched a mammoth 279run stand with Skipper Roneet Thakur for the 4th wicket which changed the game in their favor. Both the boys batted like Laxman and Dravid while skipper Roneet hardly wasted any time at the crease scoring a scintillating 193 off mere 215balls at a strike rate of almost 90 laced with 26fours and a six. Roneet has time and again proved that he is here for the bigger things in cricket as he looks very promising at such a young age. Both the boys took the team total to a healthy 383/8dec in 81 overs.

In reply, U/14 Dombivali team were all out for 114runs where in U/14 Goregaon team won the match on 1st innings while skipper Roneet once again left behind his mark.

4th– Aditya Rawat(RHB) 203-U14 Total Cup ‘18

Played between Sachin Tendulkar XI and Sunil Gavaskar XI which are two really promising teams, Gavaskar XI won the toss and elected to field first with an aim of restricting the opposition to a low total.

Little did they knew that SRT XI has a player who is in smashing form in the past few tournaments and he just continued his purple patch from where he left behind. Aditya Rawat who was in the news recently for scoring a half century as well as bagging 5wkts in the same match continued to impress as this time he went on to score a marathon knock of 201* off 290 deliveries. SRT XI reached 328/4 before they declared with Aditya smashing 65% of the team runs. What’s more he dodged the bowlers with ease while gave proper treatment to the loose deliveries smashing around 35boundaries in his impressive double century.

Sunil Gavaskar XI on the other hand scored 246/7 in 79 overs as the match resulted in a draw but there were definitely some positives with most importantly Aditya once again impressing one and all with his confident batting.

3rd– Vedant Gadia(LHB) 203*- U/16 Kalpesh Koli Tournament ‘18

Played at the Sainath Sports Club, U/16 Goregaon Team and U/16 Dahanu+PDTSA+Chinchani took on each other where in U/16 Goregaon Team won the toss and elected to bat first as Goregaon team has a very balanced and strong batting line up.

Batting first, Goregaon team notched up 326/1d in 73.5overs as openers Vedanta Gadia and Moksh Vanjari (82) gave a flying start with a 244run opening stand. On the other hand Vedant went on to convert his good start into a swashbuckling double ton smashing 203* off 228balls. Vedant as always looked supremely confident and dominating hitting 34boundaries and covering almost every corner of the ground with his wide range of strokes.  Vedant has been piling runs heavily this season and he is definitely one of the most promising openers right now in U/16 category of Mumbai cricket.

U/16 Dahanu+PDTSA+Chinchani team were all out for 118 and then 97 in the 2nd innings as U/16 Goregaon team won the match outright on the back of Vedant’s double ton

2nd-Vaibhav Kalamkar(RHB) 160- Semi-finals of U/19 Naren Tamhane Tournament ‘18

To perform under pressure and in high intense semi-finals where the pressure is definitely more than the regular games is commendable and that’s the reason U/19 GSC skipper Vaibhav Kalamkar made it into this list.

U/19 GSC techinally could have suffered a batting collapse as only 66runs can be accounted for the 9batsman in the playing XI with remaining runs scored by skipper Vaibhav Kalamkar and solid opener Rishikesh Kulkarni. Rishikesh opening the innings gave a déjà vu’ of former England opener Mike Atherton who would irritate the bowlers by fighting at the crease for long time. Rishikesh dodged the bowlers and engaged in solid cricket which is rare nowadays as he scored 91* off 230balls (8fours) remaining till the end. On the other hand, Skipper Vaibhav Kalamkar confidently counter attacked scoring an elegant 160 off 206balls laced with 13fours and 3sixes at a healthy strike rate of 78.00 while also stitching a 211run stand with Rishikesh taking GSC towards a total of 311 in 94.2 overs.

On the other hand Chimaji Appa Vasai were all out for 135runs as U/19 GSC team won the semis on the back of brilliant batting by Vaibhav.

AND FINALLY THE NO.1

1st– Mohit Tanwar(RHB) 142 in finals-U/14 Summer Vacation Tournament Finals ‘18

Delivering in the finals and standing out as a player is not something everyone can do but Mohit who has batted consistently this season continued to impress in the high intensity finals too as led from the front as the premier batsman of the SRT Team.

SRT team winning the toss batted first notching up 233/10 in 72.1overs. Raj desmukh opening the innings once again scored a classy 50 off mere 44balls giving a positive start to the team while also engaged in a good stand with Mohit Tanwar who came at no.3. It was basically a batting collapse as apart from Raj and Mohit, only 41runs were accounted between 9players. Mohit who came in at no.3 once again played a dazzling innings smashing a superlative 142 off 151balls laced with 14fours and 2sixes. Mohit as usual kept on playing his natural game and kept the scoreboard ticking despite wickets being lost from the other end

Defending a moderate total of 234, SRT boys did a fantastic job of restricting Kalyan+Bhiwandi team to just 169runs as SRT team lifted the title with pride on the back of Mohit’s match winning ton.

U14 SRT team win the finals and win the MCA U14 Summer Vacation Tournament and it was definitely because of great co-ordination amongst the boys with consistent good cricket being played. Mohit Tanwar stole the show in the finals while has a great run scorer in whichever tournaments he has played so far.

Held at the Alembic-Cricket 1 Ground in Vadodara on 7th of June, it was a match between Yogi C.A and DSCA where in DSCA won the toss and elected bowl first considering the rainy conditions which can make pitch favorable for the bowlers.

Their decision to bowl first was quite spot with Yogi CA getting bundled out for mere 72runs in their 1st innings. All-rounder Paramveer Ghelani with 2/14 and Ashutosh with 2/10 were the pick of the bowlers as they bowled really tight hardly giving any room to the batsman to score runs freely while also taking wickets at regular intervals.

Paramveer who took 4wkts and then scored 303* off just 183balls

Yogi CA in return were hardly aware on what kind of storm was about to hit them as Paramveer who took 4wkts opened the innings and blasted every bowler for runs. Left-handed Paramveer counter-attacked each and every bowler covering almost every corner of the ground with his adventurous batting as he went on to score a swashbuckling 303* off just 183balls. His opening partner Prithvi also gave good support with a solid 51. Paramveer played at a strike rate of 166.00 and treated a test match like a T20 smashing 48fours and a six in bowler friendly conditions which took his team total to 444/5declare.

Yogi CA were again all out for 113 runs in their 2nd innings with Irfan Shaikh bagging 4wkts as DSCA won the match by an innings and 259runs with a large part of credit going to this talented little genius who is now making headlines in Gujarat and all over!

Played between Tanmay XI and D.C.A Dombivali at the premier colony, it was an exciting clash between two promising teams where in DCA won the toss and elected to bat first as the wicket looked good to bat on.

DCA batting first did a commendable job as they notched up 107/5 in 10overs which is a very good total to defend. DCA batsman treated the loose balls properly and smashed those occasional boundaries in every over taking the team total to cross the 100run mark. As many as 10 bowlers bowled an over each and it was good to see everyone getting an opportunity to ball.

Karan Sonawale

Made to chase 108 at almost 11runs per over, Karan Sonawale who has impressed one and all in various MCA and non MCA Tournaments this season continued his batting exploits as he single handedly demolished the bowlers of DCA smashing a brilliant 70* off mere 24balls. Karan who smashed 6fours and 5sixes literally dominated smashing almost every ball out of the boundary line in his entertaining cricket wherein he helped his team Tanmay XI win the match by 8wkts with Rohan(22) and Nitin(17) chipping in apart from him.

Tanmay XI won the match in a dominating fashion by 8wkts and it was all thanks to ‘man of the match’ Karan Sonawale’s batting exploits.

Abbott won the toss and notched up a very decent score of 165/4 in 18overs after batting first which is definately a very defendable score. Once again the openers failed to provide a flying start but it was their in-form Ishan just fresh from a ton in the semi-finals continuing his purple patch as he went on to score a stroke filled 81 off mere 48balls. Even in the finals, he was looking all set for a century smashing the bowlers with dominance hitting 11fours and 2sixes in his quick 81. All-rounder Shantanu also gave a helping hand with 23 along with Sandesh Bhoir giving a finishing touch scoring 31* off 19balls.

Sandesh who took 4wkts

Defending 165, the pressure was more on Disney to bat at more than 9runs per over till the end. However, they gave an excellent fight and it was definitely a hard fought finals where in Hitesh Kolwankar 60 off 34 (9fours.1 six) and Vikas Shinde 49* off 27 (4fours, 2sixes) almost turned the tables in Disney’s favor. However, the match which remained a thriller till the last ball fell into the luck of Abbott’s favor as they won the match by a mere one run. The bowlers did a good job with Sandesh Agare being the pick of the bowlers coming up with 4/28 in 4overs to dent Disney’s batting line up.4.
