October was a month where the cricketing season kickstarts at its peak, there are numerous tournaments and numerous matches across Mumbai. Hence, to make it into the top 5 is certainly a commendable feat considering these 5 knocks stood out from a minimum of 300+ performances in the month of October.
Here are the top 5
5. Pragnesh Kanpillewar (LHB)-155 (113 balls), Mahindra Shield Tournament’ 18

His team Vijay Merchant XI in reply to Vijay Manjrekar’s 1st innings managed to score 335 runs as Pragnesh Kanpillewar once again showed his resistance and solid batting technique going on to score a match winning 155 off mere 113 balls scoring half of the team runs himself. It was an innings of pure belligerence in a test format as he smashed 21 fours and 6 sixes to push his team towards a healthy total.
It was on the basis of his brilliant 155, Vijay Merchant XI had won the match on 1st innings lead.
4. Dhanraj Shinde (RHB)- 101* (47 balls), Kanga League ’18

We always knew scoring in Kanga is difficult and especially those hundreds which are a daunting task. Then comes players who amaze you by not only scoring hundreds but smashing them in style with pure dominance. Dhanraj Shinde just broke this year’s fastest Kanga ton record which was earlier held by Rakesh Naik who scored in 57 balls.
Amar CC batting first declared their innings on 167/8 with Harshad Rawle top scoring with a gritty 76. New Amrit CC on the other hand were off to a good start with Dhanraj who come at no.5 continuing the good start left by the openers. Right handed Dhanraj was in the acceleration mode from ball 1 as he thrashed the bowlers everywhere in every corner of the ground smashing as many as 11 sixes and 5 fours dealing only in boundaries. Dhanraj not only smashed the fastest ton but also achieved one more record of most sixes in an innings in Kanga ’18.
New Amrit CC were 203/5 as they won the match on 1st innings on the back of Dhanraj’s blazing ton.
3. Prasad Pawar (RHB)- 115* (126 balls), Semi-Finals of Police Shield ’18 while Chasing

Into the all important semi-finals of the prestigious Police Shield Tournament, it was a high pressure game for MIG CC and Parkophene Cricketers. MIG CC entered the game as favorites because of their in- form batting line up as well as their team’s overall progress this season. However, the talented team of Parkophene Cricketers ensured that a tough fight be given and change the cards in the all important semis.
Chasing 256 against the powerful MIG, Parkophene were 78/4 at one point and chasing it down appeared certainly difficult. However things changed when Prasad Pawar who came at no.6 scored his 2nd ton of the tournament. It was indeed one of the crucial tons while chasing as he scored 115* off 126 Balls (9 fours, 2 sixes) helping Parkophene Cricketers win the match by 5 wkts. Prasad soaked the pressure well as he kept his calm while kept the scoreboard ticking helping his team reach the finals.
2. Rudra Dhanday (RHB)- 203 (193 balls), Police Shield Tournament ‘18

In many ways Rudra Dhanday has attributes much like our Hitman Rohit Sharma. There is no stopping once Rohit gets going and the same applies to Rudra too as far his batting style is concerned. Rudra who once scored a double hundred in T20 has showed over the last few seasons his penchant for scoring big knocks and this time he showed it in the Police Shield with a thumping double ton.
MCA Colts batting first notched up a massive total of 416/6 in 70overs and maximum credit to their opener Rudra who almost scored half of the runs. Opening the innings, right handed Rudra tore apart the bowlers with his aggressive batting as he went on to score a double hundred like a boss. Rudra scored 203 off off 193balls smashing 25fours and 2sixes while also did good running between the wickets keeping his calm when required
In reply Islam Gymkhana were all out for 202runs as MCA Colts snapped a massive win by 214runs on the back of Rudra’s double ton.
& FINALLY THE NO.1
1. Bhupen Lalwani (RHB)- 191 (319 balls), Shalini Bhalekar Tournament ‘18

Well it was a tough choice between Rudra and Bhupen but Bhupen made it to the top spot not only because his knock of 191 came at a time when hardly any batsman from his team were able to score runs, it was also because of his consistent performance with 432 runs at an average of 108.00 in the Shalini Bhalekar Tournament. Bhupen also batted twice from start to end opening the innings fighting it out single handedly scoring almost half of the team runs.
In the match between Jehangir Pithawala and Hemang Waigankar XI at Wankhede Stadium, Bhupen played a yet another special innings at a ground where every cricketer has a dream to score a hundred and raise the bat with pride. Bhupen not only stitched a132 run stand with Jay Bista opening the innings. He converted his good start into a majestic 191 off 319 balls laced with 13 fours and 6 sixes. An innings which was a mixture of perfect temperament facing more than 50 overs alone as well as brute hitting which had 6 sixes in it taking his team to 419/10 in 119 overs.
Played between 14 Shantibhai Seth and U14 Dahisar Youngsters at the Shivaji Park Dadar, Shantibhai CC after being made to bat first were all out for 63 runs as their batting line up collapsed on the back of excellent bowling by Dahisar Youngster’s off-spinner Umar Khan.

Umar with his impressive off-spin came up with amazing bowling figures of 8/18 in 15 overs with 7 maidens. Umar was simply spot on with the ball and troubled the batsman to the hilt. Umar who was also awarded by Hindustan Times as on one of the promising bowlers continues to impress one and all. In return, Dahisar Youngsters declared their innings on 88/7 as they are now having an upper hand in the match.
For Bluestar CC, Omakr and Anuj were certainly the Kuldeep and Jadeja of their team as both the left arm spinners successfully defended their team total of mere 138 runs. Bluetstar CC after electing to bat first were bundled out for just 138 runs with skipper Vishal Bhilare fighting it out with a crucial 67*off 82 balls (9 fours) at no.5. It was a perfect captain’s knock as his fifty helped the team from not getting all out under 100 runs.

Now it was the time for their bowlers to come up with something special vs Kurla SC and that’s when Omkar and Anuj came into the scene. Left-arm Spinner Anuj Bhosale came up with bowling figures of 5/59 in 12 overs while his partner Omkar who is also one promising left arm spinner came up with 4/22 in 5 overs as Kurla SC were all out for 131 runs in a thriller of a match.
Bluestar CC won the match on 1st innings lead of 7 runs while it was Vishal, Omkar and Anuj being the standout performers in the match.
In the match which was held between Singhania School and JBCL at the Shivaji Park, Dadar. Singhania School after opting to bat first did an excellent job posting a mammoth total of 234/0 in 20 overs. It’s a rare occurrence when openers bat unbeaten right from the start to end as Aarush and Puranjay just entertained the crowd batting for the entire 20 overs together.
Both the young kids stitched an epic 234 run stand in 120 balls with both of them bringing up their centuries. Aarush Patankar scored 104* in mere 61 balls (11 fours) while Puranjay Sawant scored 107* off 62 balls (11 fours). Both the boys took on the bowlers with authority while also did good running between the wickets. It was on the back of their solid batting, JBCL managed only 56 runs as Singhania School won the match by 178 runs.
Played at the Mahim Juveniles, Shivaji Park, Vijay Cricket Club batting first batted really well posting a decent total of 212/4 before they declared their innings. Youngster Rahul Kesari opening the innings was the highest scorer for his team scoring a solid hundred. Rahul smashed 106 off 123 balls (12 fours) as he pushed his team towards a 200+ total with ease. Rahul displayed good temperament and smashed some really impressive shots en-route his hundred. Apart from him, Chinmay Mohite chipped in with 46 runs.
Marwari CC in reply scored 137/6 before the end of the game’s play where the match ended in a draw. Even though no results came out, Rahul’s ton remained the highlight performance of the match.
We all have been in doubt at least once in our life when we talk about nutrition and a basic question
regarding the quality & quantity of protein that should be eaten by an individual to gain muscle or
increase performance or just to maintain healthy fitness levels.
In this article I will answer these questions not only of fitness enthusiasts but sportsmen’s as well.
Lets look at these one by one.
1) How much protein do I need ?

This is a very common question which goes around all corners of fitness facility and looking
at the popularity of the question there are different narratives as well.
I recommend you to just follow this basic guideline which I am about to share based on
scientific studies and not a bro tip which you get everyday from self-proclaimed nutrition
experts.
The human body absorbs certain amount of protein depending on physical activity as well as
environmental conditions (more protein must be consumed in cold weathers).
Follow this simple equation:-
1) Upper limit (for highly active individual)
1.7 grams of protein X Bodyweight = Required amount of protein (in grams)
2) Lower limit (for average individual)
1.2 grams of protein X Bodyweight = Required amount of protein (in grams)
Multiply 1.2 to 1.7 grams of protein into your bodyweight. The result you get is the amount
of protein (in grams) that you will need every day.
2) Do I need to buy whey protein ?

Have you ever felt like a trainer forces you to take whey protein?
Well, some do have a selfish agenda while others speculate your need for protein looking at
your physical activity & intensity of your workouts.
Whey protein is the fastest absorbing protein which you can get in the market. However, caution must be taken while buying a whey protein tub as India is famous for duplicity in protein supplement. I will tell you from where and which brand of supplement you should buy in another article as I would refrain from doing publicity of brands which would make this article look more like brand promotion and less educational.
If you are exercising regularly from the last 3 to 6 months then yes, you need at least 1 scoop of whey protein after your workout. Also consider whey protein as more of a food in powder form rather than considering it a supplement. Whey helps you recover faster hence making you strong and athletic.
3) Which is the Best Source of Protein ?

When we talk about quality of protein everything boils down to the number of Essential
Amino Acids (EAA’s) that food contains. Biological value of protein matters when considering
its quality. The more biological value of protein the richer it is in EAA’s.
| Quality of Proteins | Protein Source | Bio Value |
| 1st Class (Complete Proteins) | White Egg
Milk|Whey Paneer/Casein |
104
91 104/88 |
| Chicken, Fish, Meat
Egg Whites |
80-85
75-77 |
|
| 2nd Class (Incomplete Proteins) | Soya
Dals |
35 |
4) I am a vegetarian, Where do I get my protein from?

Vegetarian food is less calorically dense ( not considering unhealthy sweets & fried foods)
compared to non-vegetarian food. Therefore, the first thumb rule is consume the same
amount calories as your non-vegetarian buddy who is looking to achieve the same goal.
Secondly, I would recommend is having 2 scoops of whey protein (one in breakfast & one
after workout) to cope up with the daily required amount of protein. Thirdly, consider eating
eggs as it is vegetarian protein proven by scientific research (the eggs we eat are not fertile
hence they have no life). There are many more ways that a vegetarian can achieve his
desired performance all he has to do is consult a fitness coach/trainer who can keep a
record of how the body reacts to different vegetarian foods.
Played between Sanjeevani Cricket Academy and BCA, SCA winning the toss batted first scoring a healthy total of 259/3 in 40 overs. Arsh Krishnater opening the innings scored a very solid looking 114 off 125 balls (15 fours, 2 sixes) which set the tone for SCA’s innings. Apart from him, Krish (43) and Parth (60*) pushing the team to a decent total.
In reply, BCA lost the game while chasing falling short of 39 runs despite a fighting ton by Aditya who scored 101 opening the innings.

SCA dominated well on the back of their solid batting while Arsh was impressive with the way he batted. Even in the recently held match of Gokuldham High School vs Swami Vivekananda International School (Kandivali):-Gokuldham high school won by 50 runs with Arsh Krishnater being man of the match for his brillaint 84*in the Poinsur Gymkhana tournament.
A nail biting finish to an outstanding match. Put into bat HUL lost mario on the first ball. Sujay and Vijay steadied the innings to some extent and then we lost Vijay as well. Alok Rajesh and bagul and Prasad chipped with their small contribution, but batting class was displayed by Sujay who ensured HUL were cruising at a steady 7 run rate till the end. Sujay made a classy 70 with few of them going out of the ground for 6 as well. HUL made 136.
Being Cross Maidan, the ground is small and 136 was just a par score. This needed some good bowling. TATA AIG lost their 1st wicket in the first over of bagul inswinger. Mario as usual was tight with his line and length and kept getting wickets in every over. They were 4 down for 37 in 7 overs. 1st and 2nd change was brought in with Alok and Varun, though bowled good but went for few runs and wicket less. They lost couple of wickets in between but also had couple of good partnerships in between. Match which was almost in HUl control started drifting a little towards last 5/6 overs when it was almost reachable for them. Match boiled down to 36 in 4 when Nilesh and Sujay were bowling and both bowled pretty tight.
Went down to 17 in 2 and Nilesh bowled the 19th. One six plus few couple of them got them to 11 and it was 6 in 6. It was getting tense with emotions running high at both sides. We decided to fo with experience and mario decided to bowl the last over. I call it magical over. They had 3 wickets in hand. Still people cannot figure out Mario’s ball. 1st ball dot, 2nd ball bowled, 3rd ball nick and 2 runs. They needed 4 of 3. 4th ball bowled, 5th ball again nick and Sujay in the nick of the time saved and gave 2. Last ball 2 required and bowled! HUL wins by 1 run. We had a stand out batting display from Sujay and a outstanding bowling effort by mario. Both deserved the MOM, but for his crucial wickets at the right time Mario gets the well deserved mom.

U14 SPG batting first at Shivaji Ground were in a strong position declaring their innings at 342/4 in 78 overs. Opening the innings, captain Raj Desmukh played a scintillating knock of 88 runs in mere 77 balls (12 fours, 1 six) which set the positive tone for the innings. The talented Shubham Shinde who came at no.3 capitalized on the good start left behind their skipper as he scored an anchoring knock of 108*(185 balls). Shubham toiled hard between the wickets smashing only 6 boundaries while displayed rock solid technique and resistance at the crease. He also got good support from Pratik Konkar (60 runs) as SPG declared their innings with a defendable total on the board.
Mahim Juvenile in return suffered a severe collapse as they were all out by 50 runs. All thanks to the duo of SPG’s medium pacers Likhit Kadam and Palav Dandekar. Likhit was spot on with the ball coming up with envious bowling figures of 6/13 in 9.5 overs while Palav bagged 4 wkts for 11 runs helping SPG win by a massive margin of 292 runs.
Nikhil Patil who had scored a brilliant 114 a few weeks ago and has been amongst the runs this season continues to be a pillar for Parsee Gymkhana’s middle order.
