Apart from Ambish Shah (16) and Shamit Desai (18), none of the other batsmen looked in good shape.

Chasing 130, which is neither a small target nor a big score, could have been tricky but opening bat Abdul Latheef ensured that he set a strong foundation for the batsmen to follow. Latheef scored a delightful 40 off 39 balls that was laced with six boundaries and a six. Abdul stitched a solid partnership of 67 runs in 59 balls with Shams Lakhani (15) right at the top of the order. The inaugural match of Zooter International School Dad’s Tournament was played between Utpal Warrior and Mount Litera on Saturday at Air India Sports Club, Santacruz, Mumbai. The encounter between the two sides turned out to be a lopsided affair as Utpal Warrior got the better of Mount Litera in no time. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Mount Litera had a sub-par day at office as the team was sent packing for a parsimonious score of 73 in 17.4 overs. Shreepad Khedekar was the only batsman to score a double digit, with rest of the batting line-up collapsing like a pack of cards. Left arm spinner Vishal Mervana, who is a Financial Consultant, was the wrecker-in-chief as he rolled his arm over to pick up 3-14 in his four overs. Mervana bowled a disciplined line and length and yielded rich dividends out of the wicket.

Utpal Warrior did not get off to the best of starts as they lost Krishna Rana on the very first ball of the innings. The other opening bat Minesh Shah (21 not out) ensured that he played the anchor role and batted through to see his side home. Though wickets kept falling at the other end Shah stood his ground to chase down the target. Kaustav Ganguly and Shreepad Khedekar scalped two wickets each. In the end, Utpal Warrior completed the game in 10.4 overs, winning by five wickets.

Vishal Mervana was awarded as the Man of the Match for his match winning bowling performance. Mervana expressed, “As a kid I used to play cricket, but getting a chance to enjoy the sport in your mid life is rare. Thanks to Zooter for organizing such a wonderful tournament for dads where people like me who are ardent lovers of the sport get an opportunity to express themselves in the field. I am delighted with my performance as well as my team’s performance that helped us win the match today. The wicket was good to bowl and our fielders backed the bowlers pretty well. All in all it was a fabulous team effort”.

Toyota handed over a big defeat to Yes Bank on Saturday when the two sides locked horns against each other at MIG Bandra, Mumbai.  Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Yes Bank put up a lack luster show as they were bundled out for a miserly 90 in 17.5 overs. Rajesh Pal top scored with 20 runs but the batting collapse did no good for Yes Bank. With the ball, Jaishal Wadiyal ripped apart Yes Bank as he finished off with 3-19 in his four overs. Wadiyal bowled in good areas consistently and yielded rich dividends. Rahil Shaikh and Lalit Holebadi chipped in couple of wickets apiece.

Chasing a paltry 91 was always going to be cake walk and Toyota did the needful in just 8.4 overs, winning the match by nine wickets. Though Toyota did not get off to a good start, losing Pankaj Jaiswal on the very first ball of the innings, Aziz Shaikh (56 not out) and Dinesh Pawar (36 not out) made sure there were no hiccups in the chase. Shaikh and Pawar played some delightful looking strokes and took their side home comfortably. Rajat Mehta was the lone wicket-taker for Yes Bank.

Aziz Shaikh was bestowed with the Man of the Match for his stellar batting display that guided his team to an easy win. Shaikh averred, “The ball was nicely coming on the bat and the wicket was also good to bat on. Sometimes chasing a small target can be tricket but we applied ourselves well today. It was a lopsided affair between Automotive and Indusind on Saturday at MIG Bandra, Mumbai.  Winning the toss and electing to field first, Automotive restricted Indusind to a paltry 64-8 in 20 overs, courtesy their disciplined bowling and excellent fielding. Out of the eight wickets, three were run outs which show that Automotive were alert and lightning quick on the field. Sushant Waje was the pick of the bowlers accounting for 2-8 in his three overs. Waje bowled in tight areas not allowing the batsmen to score freely off him. Milind Bholanekar top scored with 14 as Indusind has a terrible day with the bat.

Chasing a meager 65, Automotive finished off the game in style in 9.1 overs, winning the match by eight wickets. Azhar Ansari (20 not out) and Sarthak Gangavane (26 not out) completed the formalities. Ansari and Gangavane looked in fine touch and ensured that they saw their team home. First with the bat and then with the ball, Bholanekar could not be left out of the game. He scalped 2-28 in his three overs, however the score was too less for the Indusind bowlers to defend.

Sarthak Gangavane was awarded with the Man of the Match for his unbeaten knock of 26 in 17 balls and a fantastic run out. “Though we were chasing an easy target, we lost two quick wickets. It was important for me to be out there in the middle and ease the nerves in the dressing room.
