In all its glory, Mumbai’s Own Cricket Awards was concluded successfully on 20th Feburuary evening at the Mithibai College. Many awardees from the 1st Edition are today playing in IPL and National team and we certainly wish and hope the 2nd Edition will also have many faces which will be making waves in 2020. The 2nd Edition Awards Function had invitees ranging from experienced BCCI umpires to coaches, from School Principals to State as well as National level cricketers gracing the awards function adding the silver lining to the event.
The Jury which consisted of Umesh Patwal (Nepal National Team Batting Consultant), Sangeeta Kamat (MCA Women’s Selector) and Ajay Kadam (Former MCA Selector and BCCI Level 1 Coach) who brainstormed their way to decide the winners across 6 categories.
Let’s take a look at the Winners of the College Category-
BEST BATSMAN IN COLLEGE CATEGORY-
Winner- BHUPEN LALWANI (Winner of College Category)
As he said on the stage while accepting the award- “I have really worked hard to reach the stage at which I am playing and there is certainly no short cut for success”& we can’t agree more to accept that Bhupen has toiled hard to reach where he has. Bhupen amassed 1040 runs in 19 Innings including 7 tons in last 4 months to become one of the best Mumbai batsman at present in the U23 Category. He also played for Mumbai university in All India Inter University Level while he was the top scorer in the “Under-23 Shalini Bhalekar Trophy 2018-2019” with 432 runs at an envious batting average & a best score of 191.
In the U23 COL. C.K. NAYUDU TROPHY 2018-2019 (State Level Tournament) he scored a total of 608 runs in 9 Matches (14 innings) which had 3 tons with a best score of 167. Bhupen was in top 6 in BCCI’s Ranking of highest centuries List in U23 Players in India and Top (highest) from the Mumbai Team. His consistent run scoring spree also got him selected in the Mumbai Ranji Trophy squad this year.
1st Runner up- Pragnesh Kanpillewar from Rizvi College Team – 1st Runner up -Total = 1221 runs in 24 innings (Including 2 double centuries, 5 centuries and 3 half centuries)
2nd Runner up- Arman Jaffer from Rizvi College Team- 2nd Runner up- Total = 790 runs in 12 Innings (one triple century, 1 Century and 3 half centuries)

WINNER-Arjun Tendulkar-(From Dhirubhai Ambani College Team) with a total of 47 wkts in 20 Innings and 236 runs in 14 Innings.
Arjun was the top wicket-taker in Under-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy (State level tournament) where he bagged 15 Wkts in 8 Matches (Best 5/30 against Gujarat) and 29 runs in 3 Matches (Best 18 runs against Karnataka)
Arjun was also the 2nd highest wicket-taker in “Under-19 K.C. Mahindra Shield Selection Tournament 2018-2019 “where he took 10 Wkts in 3 Innings. Apart from that Arjun was the 3rd bowler in Top Wicket-takers in “Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy 2018-2019”(State level tournament) from Mumbai U19 Team with a total of 22 wkts in 9 innings.

Most Popular Player Award- Siddharth Mhatre from Ramniranjan Jhunjhunwala College (Ghatkopar West) Team
Votes – 522 Votes
Siddarth won the most popular award in the college category amassing a total of 522 votes surpassing his contemparies. Siddarth scored 230 runs in 4 innings at an average of 57.50 and strike rate of 76.41 in the Mahindra Shield which included a crucial ton in the virtual finals.

Popularly now known as the hitman in the School Cricket Category in Mumbai. Suryansh from the day he scored his fastest triple tona few years back has been scoring runs consistently. Suryansh this season scored an impressive 804 runs in 9 innings & 8 wkts in 5 innings.

This year champion in Harris shield Inter school U16 boys Cricket Tournament and this year best Player of the tournament (score 120 runs and 15 wickets in 4 Matches ) in Harris shield tournament Himanshu is also playing under 16 Vijay Merchant trophy (state level tournament) for Mumbai team where he has performed all round with 216 runs in 6 innings (5 Matches) & 21 Wkts in 7 innings (5 Matches) becoming the top-wicket taker in this tournament (for Mumbai U16 Team)

Most Popular Player Award-Ayush Vartak from SVIS Borivali
Ayush Vartak who has been a reckoning force with the bat won theMost Popular Player in School Category with 520 votes. He won the Most Popular Category by a considerable margin surpassing numerous strong contenders. He surpassed Jash Ganiga’s 519 votes to become the winner by a margin of just one vote. Ayush came into the limelight overnight after he scored a brilliant double hundred that too in a high intensity finals of the U14 CPCC Tournament in 2018.
Based on all round performance of all rounder Yogesh Renjala, SRs seal semifinals berth in EPL Edition 2. Clinical performance from SRs in Bowling, Batting and Fielding strangulated General Mills from ball 1 of match and they never came out of pressure applied by SRs bowlers. Young Comrade CC after electing to bat first on DY Patil, Nerul managed to score 350/10 in 76.2 overs. Mayuresh Tandel who has 298 runs in 3 innings once again proved to be the rescueman for his team. Mayuresh who had scored 161 in Purshottam Shield for his team this season when no batsman was able to score more than 40 once again repeated such an innings top scoring with 155 in 172 balls at no.4. Mayuresh smashed 15 fours and 3 sixes at a healthy strike rate while Viraj Krishna (53) brought his 2nd back to back half century at no.6.
DY Patil with 2/18 at one point had given the positive momentum to the opposite team but the rock solid Subbu ensured he guided his team towards a sparkling win. Just fresh from a hundred last week in the same tournament, Subramaniam Doraswamy once again played a match winning knock of 160*off 183 balls (25 fours). Subbu had a partnership of 134 runs with Shashank Singh (77 runs) for the 3rd wicket and a unbeaten 169* run stand with Yogesh Pawar (81*) for the 6th wicket as DY Patil crossed the victory line in 66.1 overs entering the semi-finals of the tournament.
MIG who have become one of the most powerful teams in Mumbai Cricket in the last 2 years are certainly living upto their reputation of having a formidable batting line up along with an effective bowling unit.
Opting to bat first on their home ground, MIG amassed a massive 565/9 in 90 overs. The openers Swapnil and Pratik Dabholkar (54) gave a flying start of 102 runs while opener Swapnil Pradhan went on to score a massive 179 off 183 balls (24 fours). Swapnil who scored 252* in Times Shield this season continues to score big hundreds.
Kevin who came at no.3 scored an aggressive 91 (15 fours, 2 sixes) while stitched a 142 run stand with Sumit Ghadigaonkar. Sumit coming at no.4 scored a well crafted 118 off 123 balls (12 fours, 1 six) as MIG were in complete control of their innings. Skipper Pragnesh who is known for his batting this time was the pick of the bowlers taking 6 wkts even though he leaked a few runs giving 157 runs in 24.5 overs.
Parel SC in reply were all out for 247 runs with every batsman chipping in with starts but not able to convert their 20’s and 30’s. Srujan Athawale (63) and Pranay Pawar (61) scored valiant half centuries but that didn’t seem to be enough for the chase as MIG won the match by 318 runs.
Abbott after being made to bat first at Sunder CC, Cross Maidan managed to score 271/6 in 45 overs. It was a decent start by the top order but it was Abbott’s Mr.Reliable Ishan Mithbavkar coming up with an unbeaten 102* off 83 balls.
Ishan who is known for his aggressive cricket played his natural game taking a mere 82 balls laced with 10 fours and 5 sixes which pushed his team towards a healthy total.
Abhyudaya Co-Op Bank in reply managed to score only 207 runs thanks to a match winning bowling spell by Abbott’s prime bowler Shantanu Chaudhary. Shantanu’s bang on bowling with figures of 5/33 in 9 overs proved to be too heavy for the opposition as it helped Abbott win the match by 71 runs.
Mumbai: Jasan Shethia was the star performer with the ball as hosts Sanjeevani Cricket Academy ‘B’ defeated Nerul Gymkhana by 25 runs in the Reliance Health Insurance Sanjeevani Cricket Academy U-13 T-21 Cricket tournament played at the Saffire ground in Bhakti Park, Wadala. Put in to bat, SCA ‘B’ scored 150/6 as Atharva Dalvi (32 off 25), Neev Hinduja (20 off 23) and Veer Kapoor with a steady unbeaten knock of 20 in 26 balls chipped in with useful knocks. Nerul Gymkhana’s bowlers were guilty of conceding 54 extras that helped SCA ‘B’ to reach the 150-run mark.
In response, Nerul Gymkhana were bowled out for 125 in 20.3 overs as SCA B’s Jasan Shethia bowled an economic and wicket-taking spell of 4 for 16 in 4.3 overs that helped his team secure a win. For Nerul Gymkhana, Vidhwan Kawle (33 off 32) and Arya Anshate (24 off 19) tried their best, but couldn’t take their team to the required target.
Brief Scores: SCA ‘B’ 150 for 6 (Atharva Dalvi 32, Neev Hinduja 20, Veer Kapoor 20*, Aditya Singh 2/27) beat Nerul Gymkhana 125 all out in 20.3 overs (Vidhwan Kawle 33, Arya Anshate 24, Jasan Shethia 4/18) by 25 runs.

If this guy’s batting eccentrics in IPL last year weren’t enough, he comes up with a yet another exceptional knock proving once again how dangerous he can be with the willow. The 24 yr old in his latest match vs Sikkim entertained one and all with some brilliant power hitting.
Mumbai team after opting to bat first at Emerald High School Ground, Indore amassed a big total of 258/4 in 20 overs. Shreyas coming at no.3 when Mumbai were reeling at 22/2 took his team to 235/3 in the next 13.3 overs of his stay at the crease. Shreyas went on to score 147 runs facing a mere 55 deliveries which had 15 sixes and 7 fours at a strike rate of 267.77. Suryakumar coming at no.5 batted in his usual style lending the finishing touch with a 33 ball 63*
Sikkim chasing such a big total were all out for 104 runs with Shardul Thakkur’s 2/13 in 4 overs proved to be quite an effective spell as Mumbai won the match by 154 runs.
For the records, apart from being one of the fastest T20 tons, this also happens to be the highest score alongwith highest number of sixes by an Indian batsman in T20 Cricket surpassing Risabh Pant’s record of 128* and 12 sixes.
Tournaments like these are always a great platform to unearth the hidden cricketing talents and one such boy who is impressing one and all with his batting has been Aniket Singh from Don Bosco Cricket Academy.
In the match vs Young National CC, Don Bosco School electing to bat first at Cross Maidan notched up 319/3 in 35 overs. Aniket opening the innings went on to score a swashbuckling 164* batting till the end facing mere 114 balls which had 26 fours and 2 sixes. Aniket also stitched a brilliant 196 run stand with Naman Jawhar for 3rd wicket who also scored an impressive 103 runs off 74 balls. Young National CC in reply managed to score only 162/6 failing to keep up with the run rate as Don Bosco clinched a big win by 157 runs.
In the 4th match vs Goregaon Sports Club, Don Bosco batting first managed to score 273/6 in 35 overs with opener Aniket once again taking his team towards a healthy total. Aniket this time took only 102 deliveries to score his 140 runs which had 24 boundaries in it. Thanks to some really tight bowling by the Don Bosco bowlers, GSC were bundled out for 83 runs handing over a 190 run win to the Don Bosco team.
Mumbai: Vedant Mayekar was in great rhythm as he bowled a match-winning spell of 4 for 18 in five overs as Achievers Cricket Academy secured a 10-run win over Vasant Vihar High School in the Reliance Health Insurance Sanjeevani Cricket Academy U-13 T-21 Cricket tournament played at the Saffire ground in Bhakti Park, Wadala. Electing to bat first, Achievers CA scored 132 for 4 as their opener Krish Kodal struck a fine 66 in 63 balls and was ably supported by Sanskar Rao who remained unbeaten on a steady 27 in 37 balls.
In response, Vasant Vihar High School were restricted to 122 for six in their quota of 21 overs. Soham Keer and Omkar Lokhande tried their best with knocks of 33 and 26 respectively, but Vedant Mayekar kept picking wickets at regular intervals that helped Achievers CA register a victory and earn crucial points.
