Harish Narvekar’s brilliant unbeaten 83 runs knock powered MET Sports Club to a comprehensive 9-wicket win against Century Rayon Cricket Club in a third round match of the Air India Invitation T20 tournament organized by Air India Western Region and played at the Air India ground, Kalina on Wednesday.

Batting first Century Rayon scored 138 for  9 wickets in 20 overs. Vinay Kene contributed with a half century effort of 53 runs and Servesh Jadhav scored 32 runs to prop their innings. For MET SC  Rakesh Kamble (3/13), Vinish Philips (2/19) and Shadab Usmani (3/23) picked up the wickets.

MET Sports Club easily chased down target thanks to Harish Narvekar’s solid unbeaten innings. Jayant Sathghare added 25 runs to ensure MET SC reached 142 for the loss of just one wicket in 15.3 overs. The Man of the match award went to Harish Narvekar.

Kamath Memorial Cricket Club after opting to bat first were bundled out for 94 runs in just 26.5 overs. Parag Jadhav from Kamath CC was the only one who looked good for his 41 runs. Thanks to Gallant CC’s experienced spinner Mihir Shah who troubled the batsman to the hilt. The left arm spinner had last year taken 3 fifers which also included two back to back fifers in Kanga league as he continues to impress this time coming up with an impressive spell of 5/21 taking crucial wickets at regular intervals.

Gallant CC in reply chased down the score in just 19.1 overs winning the match by 7 wkts. Amar W remained not out on 45* as he steered the chase with ease.

On Saturday, Osian Cricket Club took on Chembur Gymkhana during the GDCL in Mumbai. Winning the toss and electing to bowl first, Chembur Gymkhana was at the receiving end of some extravagant batting display from Osian Cricket Club. Opening batsman Vishal Shah was the performer of the day with the bat as he muscled 58 off 39, smashing 10 boundaries. Coming lower down the order, Viral Somaiya scored a quickfire 30 off  just 16, which included five boundaries and a six. Osian Cricket Club put up a challenging 177-9 in 20 overs. With the ball, Janak Mehta and Suraj Lalwani bowled well in tandem to scalp two wickets apiece. 

In reply, Chembur Gymkhana failed to give a tough fight as the side was bundled out for a paltry 139 in 19.4 overs, falling short of 38 runs. A few of their batsmen got off to starts but failed to capitalize. Suraj Lalwani (22), Prashant Nair (26), Chirag Amin (23), and Sundeep Bhawsar (21) looked good but could not carry along. For Osian Cricket Club, it was Pratik Sheth who wrecked havoc with the ball as he picked up 3-29 in his four overs. Parth Tolia and Aditya Singh accounted for couple of dismissals each, with Vishal Shah and Kaivan Shah managing to scalp solitary wicket apiece.

Sainath Sports Club after opting to bat first at the TVM Cricket ground mustered a total of 179/10 in 42.3 overs with most of the batsman finding it difficult to convert their starts. Ayush Vartak coming at no.3 was the highest scorer hitting a crucial 55 off 57 balls laced with 8 boundaries. From TVM superstars, Azhar with 3/27 in 8.3 overs was the pick of the bowlers.

TVM Superstars in reply were bundled out for 142 runs with only their opener Rishabh Sharma putting up a tough fight with 57 runs. The bowlers did an excellent job keeping the batsman in control and not allowing them to score runs freely as Sainath SC went on to win the finals by 37 runs.

Well Kanga Knockout Tournament has begun and it’s officially the start off-season for the cricketing community as Kanga tournaments are played only during mid April to mid September where no other tournaments are conducted during these 4 months. Also for the uninitiated, Kanga Knockout is a pre-selection tournament for teams to get qualified for the Primary-Dr. HD Memorial Kanga League. Scoring runs in such tournaments does become difficult as and when the off season progresses as the wickets get difficult, grasses grow making it difficult to hit boundaries and rains further makes the pitch wet favoring the bowlers more.

Bombay Union Sports Club after being put to bat first registered a good total of 286/6 in 45 overs. Parth Chandan opened the Kanga season hitting the 1st ton scoring a brilliant 115 runs in 108 balls laced with 9 fours and 5 sixes. It was a knock which had some really good cricketing shots as he pushed the team towards a healthy total. Amit Yadav also lended a helping hand scoring a gritty 57

Pathare Prabhu Cricketers in reply were all out for 161 runs in 35.1 overs. Sushant Torne fought hard scoring 72 runs but lacked support from the other end. Parth who first top scored with the bat was also the pick of the bowlers taking 4/29 with the ball.

KSG Stars after being put to bat first at the Payyade Ground posted a big total of 195/7 in 20 overs. Despite their openers failing to give a flying start, it was the reliable Umang Sheth once again coming good with an aggressive 50 ball 89 (4 fours, 7 sixes). Umang also stitched a crucial stand with Maulik Mehta to bring KSG Stars back into the game. Maulik scored 41 off 23 balls while Parth who came at no.5 scored 26 off 21 balls.

Halai Lohana Mahajan Wadi were off to a good start with opener Harmesh Somaiya (35 off 18 balls) and no.3 batsman Hasit Savani scoring 72 runs off 45 balls. Both the players stitched a quick partnership but the batters below them failed to capitalize as none of them were able to convert their starts. Halai Lohana team did manage to give a tight fight and at one point were even looking favorites but they eventually fell short of 11 runs managing to score 184/8 in their quota of 20 overs.

Deepak Kumar’s brilliant knock of 60 runs was the highlight of Western Railway Traffic SC’s eight-wicket win against GIC Sports Club in a third round match of the Air India Invitation T20 tournament organized by Air India Western Region and played at the Air India ground, Kalina on Tuesday.

GIC Sports Club batting first could muster 109 runs for the loss of 5 wickets from the 20 overs. Jairaj Chitnis top-scored for GIC with 37 runs, while Western Railway bowlers Anuj Bhoir (2/8) and Hitesh Patel (2/12) got the wickets. Western Railway riding on Deepak’s solid innings scored 111 for the loss of just 2 wickets in 15 overs. Deepak was named Man of the match.

Benetton CC after being put to bat first at Central Maidan, Thane amassed a healthy total of 280/8 in 45 overs. Despite a patchy start by the openers, Rupesh Tiwary coming at no.3 scored a solid 64 off 87 balls (9 fours) while the promising Nikhil Patil went on to score a match winning 120 runs off 102 balls (10 fours, 4 sixes). Not only did Nikhil accelerated his team’s innings but also stitched a crucial stand with Rupesh as Benetton reached a more than average total to defend.

Shree Anand Bharti in reply were all out for 167 runs as they could not withstand the tight bowling of Benetton bowlers. Neekunj Karia was the pick of the bowlers taking 4/30 in 6.2 overs with his left arm spin while all-rounder Rupesh Tiwary and Imroz Khan picked up 3 wkts each.

Benetton CC won the match by 113 runs and qualify for the finals of the summer league.

In the previous match of Benetton vs Raj Cricket Academy, Rupesh had came up with match winning bowling figures of 5/28 in 6.5 overs with his off-spinners while in this match he displayed an all-round performance coming in very handy for his team.

Hosts Air India SC (Western Region) clinched a close 4-run victory against Mumbai Fire Brigade in a second round match of the Air India Invitation T20 tournament organized by Air India Western Region and played at the Air India ground, Kalina on Monday.

Batting first Air India managed to score 138 for the loss of five wickets in their innings of 20 overs, with Diwakar Shetty scoring an unbeaten 23 runs. Later Air India bowlers picked wickets at regular intervals to restrict Mumbai Fire Brigade to 134 for nine wickets from the quota of 20 overs. Harish Patil made an unbeaten 36 runs but the Air India bowlers Ruchit Jani (2/13), Aditya Pandey (2/28), Abhishek Patil (2/28) and B.M. Mudaliar (2/41) picked up the wickets to win the match.

Willis Tower Watson (WTW) after opting to bat first at Parsee Cyclists, Azad Maidan managed to reach an average total of 144/8 in 20 overs which is defendable but not a match winning target. Anooj Shetty (35) and Shrinivas Gumalla (25) were the highest scorers while the rest of the batters failed to make a substantial impact. Amit Thakkar with 4/28 in 4 overs was the pick of the bowlers for Finorion Pharma.

Chasing 145, Finorion Pharma were bundled out for mere 57 runs, thanks to some excellent bowling by the WTW bowlers. Devarshi Tambe took 2wkts while conceding mere 3runs in 2 overs, Kalpesh Sawant came up with 3/17 in 4 overs and Shivinder Jamwal came up with 3/12 in 3 overs as Finorion Pharma won the match by 87 runs.
