Islam Gymkhana batting first posted a total of 175/5 in 20 overs which is quite a competitive total to defend. Opener Shoaib Khan gave a good start scoring 41 runs while it was Hashir Dafedar scoring a quick 24 ball 43 which had 3 sixes in it. From the bowlers, Anirudh Mainkar (1/25 in 4) and Santosh Shinde (1/29 in 4) were the pick of the bowlers.
Mumbai Police Gymkhana who were 10/2 at one stage with both the openers out on duck were in a difficult situation at one point. However, a match winning stand of 140 runs in just 86 balls by Mayur Sanap and Shrikant Limbole changed the game in their team’s favor.
Mayur who is in terrific form scored his 3rd consecutive half century hitting 71 off 66 balls (5 fours, 4 sixes) while Shrikant smashed a brutal 81 in 39 balls (14 fours, 1 six) as Mumbai Police Gymkhana won the match by 5wkts and 4 balls to spare.
Star Eleven after opting to bat first posted an average total of 142/7 in 20 overs. Opener Kushal played a solid knock of 53 in 42 balls but the rest of the batsman failed to convert their 10’s and 20’s. Udayan Shukla with 2/13 in 3 overs was the pick of the bowlers while Shams Mulani with 1/29 in 4 overs equally impressive.
Chasing 143, Azad Strikers were off to a flying start with both the openers Udayan Shukla and Aakarshit Gomel giving a flying start. Udayan who was impressive with the ball also smashed a handy 32 in mere 16 balls (6 fours, 1 six) as the chase got easier.
Sumit who came at no.3 scored a quickfire 34 ball 51 while Gomel who is known for his solid batting once again scored a classy 51 off 45 balls (7 fours).
Azad Strikers eventually won the match by 8 wkts and 4 overs to spare.
Played at the PDTSA Ground, VIVA stars after opting to bat first notched up a massive total of 221/5 in 20 overs. Shashikant Kadam opening the innings tore apart the bowlers hitting a powerful knock of 86 in 45 balls which had as many as 7 sixes! Kadam’s opening partner Shikhar also did not spare the bowlers hitting a 19 ball 42 while Bharat P who came at no.3 scored 38 off 17 balls. Most of the bowlers were taken for a beating with fast bowler John Abraham being the pick of the bowlers with 3/44 in 4 overs.
Chasing 222, VIVA stars were looking favorites and the pressure is usually on the team chasing during such situations but the prolific line up of Rising Indians ensured they did not gave up so easily. Hardik Tamore (64 off 45balls) and Arjun Shetty (51 off 27) set up the tone for the chase putting up a strong opening stand.
Tushar Mhapankar coming at no.3 continued the positive momentum left behind by the openers hitting a blazing 47 in just 21 balls. Manan at no.4 and Kalpesh (14* off 7) lended the finishing touch as Rising Indians went on to win a thriller of a chase by 3 wkts and 3 balls to spare reaching the semi-finals of the tournament.
Singhania School after opting to bat first at the Kalyan Wagle Nagar Ground notched up a decent total of 224/6 in 40 overs. Opener Ritvik mohanty was the highest scorer smashing a solid 89 off 101 balls. Ritvik smashed 8 fours and 2 sixes as he took on the bowlers confidently. Aryan Dalal coming at no.3 chipped in with 32 runs. From Vasant Vihar High School, Ayush Parab with 4/56 was the pick of the bowlers.
Defending a total of 225, Vasant Vihar High School were bundled out for 123 runs in 35.2 overs. Off-spinner Anuj Iyer who is the highest wicket taker in the tournament so far continues to trouble the batsman this time coming up with a spell of 4/28 in 7.2 overs being the pick of the bowlers for his team. Anuj picked up wickets on regular intervals not allowing any pairs to stitch a match threatening partnership. Raj Jain also bowled well taking 2 wkts in his 2 overs.
Singhania School won the match by 101 runs and qualify for the all important finals.
Sachin Wagh scored an unbeaten 66 runs to power Hindu Gymkhana to a 8-wicket win against Muslims SC in the opening match of the 70th Nawab Salar Jung Invitation T20 Cricket Tournament 2019.
Riding on captain-cum-opener Sachin Wagh’s splendid unbeaten 66 runs from 31 balls, P.J. Hindu Gymkhana registered an easy eight-wicket win over Muslim Sports Club in the opening match of the 70th Nawab Salar Jung Invitation T20 Cricket Tournament 2019, organised by the Islam Gymkhana under the auspices of the Mumbai Cricket Association, and played at the P.J. Hindu Gymkhana on Friday.
Muslim SC batted first and managed to score 109 as they were bowled out in 20 overs. Mohd. Asif’s 30 runs and Imran Shaikh’s 25 runs were the only batsmen who managed to get some runs and prop the total. Hindu Gymkhana’s left-arm medium pacer Hassan Raza took three wickets for 24 in three overs, while Farhan Kazi chipped in with two wickets, giving away 16 runs in his four-over spell.
In reply, Hindu Gymkhana, though, lost two quick wickets of opener Ankit Revandhar and Sujit Haravi during the chase. But, Sachin put opponents bowling attack under pressure with his superb innings which included three sixes and nine fours. Megh Adhwaryu remained unbeaten on 29 off 18 balls as the hosts reached the target in 11.3 overs.

Young Muslim Sports Club vs Elphinstone CC (Azad Maidan)
Young Muslim Sports Club after opting to bat first posted a total of 179 runs in 43.5 overs. From Elphinstone CC, Wasim and Deewakar chipped in with 2 wkts while it was all-rounder Yuvang Shah top scoring with the bat smashing a solid 50 off 78 balls (4fours).
Defending a low total of 180 runs, the pressure was definitely more on the bowling team but Young Muslim SC did a commendable job of restricting Elphinstone CC to a low total.
All-rounder Yuvang who top scored with the bat was the pick of the bowlers too taking 4/20 in 5.5 overs with his off-spinners. Yuvang also got good support from fellow spinners Yogesh Chaudhary (3/28) and Ramiz (3/30) as Young Muslim Sports Club went on to win the match by 52 runs.
Youth’s Own Union vs Friends Cricketers (Youth’s Own Union, Cross Maidan)
Youth’s Own Union CC after opting to bat first posted a moderate total of 155/10 in 40.1overs. Youth’s Own Union who were 4 down for 9 wkts at one stage got back into game with the help of a gritty half century by Atmaram Dicholkar at no.6. Atmaram scored 53 off 125 balls (5 fours) while Nikhil Manjrekar scored 34 pushing their team towards a somewhat respectable total. Off-spinner Shivam Mishra with 3/17 was the pick of the bowlers.
Friends Cricketers chasing a meagre total of 155 were bundled out for 106 runs. Youth’s Own Union bowlers did a commendable job with left arm spinners Shubham Shewale (3/17) and Karan Gohil (3/26) turning the game with their bowling as Youth’s own union won the match from nowhere by 49 runs.
Vijaychandra Cricket Club & Merry Youngsters, (Oval Maidan)
Vijaychandra CC after opting to bat first were all out for 146 runs in 22.5 overs. Vaishnav Sail with a 66 ball 69 at the middle order was the highest scorer for his team while Yash Kripal who bowls left arm spin was the pick of the bowlers taking 3/50 in 8.5 overs. All-rounder Aakash Patil chipped in with 2/30 in his medium pace.
Chasing 147, Merry Youngsters openers were sent back to the hut quite early but it was the talented Aakash Patil finishing off the chase for his team. Aakash coming at no.3 scored an unbeaten match winning knock of 81* in 96 balls (6 fours) steering his team to a 5 wkt win.
Indian Oil after opting to bat first at the DY Patil stadium mustered a total of 222/10 in 46.1 overs. Apart from opener Paresh Patel’s solid 42 (92b), the rest of the batsman found it difficult to get going. All-rounder Swapnil Singh with 4/41 in 11 overs was the pick of the bowlers while the rest of the bowlers also did a decent job of restricting Indian Oil to a low total.
Chasing 223, DY Patil A were off to a superb start with openers Ruturaj Gaikwad (63 off 27) Anand Singh (43 off 28) putting on 103 runs in just 8.3 overs. Vaidik Murkar coming at no.3 further capitalized on the good start left behind by the openers scoring a classy 57 in 40 balls. Speaking exclusively to Cricketgraph when asked why they were chasing as if it was a T20 game, Vaidik replied “We wanted to finish the game on Day 1 itself” which speaks a lot about the overall confidence the side possesses.
Yogesh Takawale (42* off 27) and Swapnil Singh (14* off 3) finished off the chase in style as DY Patil A won the match by 6wkts and quailify for the finals vs Jain Irrigation.
DY Patil B after opting to bat first at the DY Patil University Ground notched up a total of 277/10 in 86 overs which in DY Standards could have been better. Skipper Subramaniam Doraswamy opening the innings scored a polished knock of 71 runs in 206 balls continuing his from from the last match where he scored a match winning hundred. Harmeet Singh at no.8 scored his 2nd back to back half century this time a quick 54 ball 56 to push DY to a respectable total. Left arm fast bowler Samad Fallah was the pick of the bowlers with 3/34 in his spell of 15 overs.
Jain Irrigation who were off to a patchy start with openers getting our early got back into the game thanks to their no.3 batsman Varun Deshpande.
Varun went on to score a solid 104 off 155 balls (17 fours, 2 sixes). Varun also stitched a crucial partnership with Mansingh Nigade who scored a strokeful 73 in 125 balls (8 fours, 3sixes). Urvesh Patel at no.5 (67* off 58 balls, 11 fours) finished off the game in what was a great win for Jain Irrigation.
The strong DY Patil B team were dethroned by the promising batting line up of Jain Irrigation winning by 6 wkts as they qualify for the A Div finals vs the prolific DY Patil A in the Times Cricket Shield.
A total of 14 teams, including defending champions Parsee Gymkhana, will be competing for the top honours in the 70th Nawab Salar Jung Invitation T20 Cricket Tournament, organised by the Islam Gymkhana under the auspices of the Mumbai Cricket Association, which commences from Friday, April 19, to April 27, 2019.
The format of the event is a direct knockout and all the matches will be played as per the New Model Rules of the Mumbai Cricket Association.
On the opening day on Friday, Combined Cricket Club will take on Young Mohammedan Cricket Club at 10.00am followed by the second match to be played between Muslim Sports Club and P.J. Hindu Gymkhana at 2.00pm at the Hindu Gymkhana ground.
Last year’s champions Parsee Gymkhana have been provided a first round bye and will launch their campaign on April 25 against the winner of the first round match between Bohra Cricketers and Bombay Gymkhana.
It was a close encounter during the GDC when Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) XI faced Bombay Gymkhana on April 11 in Mumbai. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, MCA posted a respectable 149-9 in 20 overs, thanks to some solid performances in the middle order. After losing the opening pair of Ojas Mehta (7) and Yash Ramchandani (0) cheaply, a lot was expected from the MCA middle order. Standing up to the expectations, Jeetinder Diwan (24), Mukund Jalan (30), Vijay Singh (37), and Amit Nayyar (29) contributed well with the bat to take up their side to a decent total. With the ball, Charan Shetty was the pick of the bowlers as he scalped 3-28 in his four overs. Vikrant Rambhia and Shailendra Singh also bowled well to pick up two wickets each.
In reply, Bombay Gymkhana started off the chase on a positive note as the opening pair of Praveen Lekhraj (40) and Sumeir Zaveri (28) stitched a 69-run partnership in 56 balls. However as Zaveri departed, the wickets started to fall in a flurry. It was Amit Nayyar who got into the thick of things as he managed to pick up 4-17 in his three overs. Piyush Patel and Yash Ramchandani were the other bowlers who accounted for one wicket each. In the end, Bombay Gymkhana was reduced to 136-7 in 20 overs, thus falling short of 12 runs.
First with the bat and then with the ball, Amit Nayyar had an wonderful outing and was deservingly awarded as the Man of the Match.
