Mumbai after winning consistently and reaching the all important finals of the U23 Women’s ODI Tournament, it was a time for the final blow vs Bengal team which is known to be a equally competitive opposition.

Mumbai opting to bat first after winning the toss mustered a modest total of 179/10 in 49.1 overs. It was once again Jemimah top scoring for Mumbai with a fighting knock of 55 runs in 70 balls (6 fours, 1 six) while Vrushali Bhagat with 40 runs at no.3 came in handy. All-rounder Manali Dakshini at no.7 scored 29 while the rest of the girls failed to convert their scores. Mumbai team even though have been excellent in most of the departments but one part where they need to work on is their batting. Jemimah has been single handedly scoring half of the team runs in most of the matches while Vrushali and Manali chipping in with starts. The rest of the batters needs to fire and provide support in order to reach big totals in big games. As Sourav Ganguly had said once “You just can’t rely on one or two batsmen/batswoman in cricket no matter how consistent or talented they are”

Bengal team in reply chased down the score in what was a brilliant tough fight by the Mumbai bowlers.  Saniya Raut who is the leading wicket taker in the tournament came up with an excellent spell of 5/34 in 9 overs making it her 3rd five wkt haul in 10 games. All-rounder Deepti from Bengal who took 3 wkts also opened the innings to score an unbeaten 105* pushing Bengal to a 2 wkt win in the finals.

It was a tough fight between two talented teams where in the match witnessed some impressive individual performances. Saniya Raut ended up being the highest wicket taker while Jemimah became the highest run scorer in the tournament.

U23 Mumbai Women’s Team

Nevertheless we are proud of our Mumbai Girls to become the runners up in the tournament. Many players emerged out to be impressive which is nothing but a good sign for the future of Mumbai and Indian cricket.

Some pick of the performers for Mumbai team in the tournament.
