In one of the rare decisions in Kanga, Navroz CC skipper Karan Suriaya elected to bat first at Oval Maidan with an aim to break the jynx that the team which bats first often struggles or loses. However, the history and records of Kanga are so strong, his brave decision fell flat on him as Navroz CC were all out on mere 48 runs in 22.1 overs. Left arm spinner Santosh Dhande bowled an excellent spell of 5/19 in 11 overs with 4 maidens while off-spinner Vishal Addagtala was equally impressive bagging 4 wkts conceding mere 7 runs in 6.1 overs with 2 maidens. Both the spinners teamed up really well while the difference in angles also played a big role as one was left arm spinner while the other one being the right arm spinner.
Taki Team in reply scored 99/9 declaring at 25.4 overs winning the match on 1st innings lead. Navroz CC batted again in the 2nd innings getting all out for 76 runs in 35.2 overs.
Vishal Addagatla again chipped in with 4 wkts taking 4/27 while Santosh Dhande took 2/22. Rupesh Naik also came in chipping with 3 wkts as Taki team dominated Navroz CC with quite some force.
Shivaji Park Gymkhana after being put to bat first at National CC, Cross Maidan made a 1st innings total of 150/10 in 50.3 overs. Even though it was a top order collapse with scoreboard reading 4/23, the middle order consisting of Siddhesh Kinalekar (41), Jayesh Pokhare (27) and Sanket Bhaye (24) somehow pushed their team to a respectable total. Medium Pacer Ravinder Solanki was quite crucial with the ball running through SPG’s top order as he came up with wonderful bowling figures of 5/30 in 11.3 overs with a maiden.
Despite a great bowling performance, National CC could not replicate their good performance in batting as they were bundled out for 103 runs in 26.4 overs. It was a collective performance by the SPG bowlers as they kept it tight taking wickets at regular intervals to help their team win on 1st innings lead.

Tall, well-built left arm fast bowlers are always difficult to face and that was exactly the case between Regent CC and SKP Athletics where left arm medium pacer Kunal Bhavsar dominated upfront with the ball. After putting Regent CC to bat first at Oval Maidan, SKP Athletics restricted them to 152 runs all out in 62.2 overs. The wrecker in chief was SKP’s Kunal Bhavsar who came up with an excellent spell of 6/36 in 18.2 overs with 5 maidens. Kunal was spot on with the ball penetrating into Regent CC’s top and middle order with his consistent line and length.
From Regent CC, it was Patrick Allen scoring a gritty 62 off 115 balls while Badal Shaikh at no.7 scored 49 off 87 balls.
SKP Athletics in reply scored 105/6 in 29 overs with Kunal top scoring with the bat too scoring an aggressive 43 off 32 balls which had 5 lusty blows over the ropes. Coming at no.5, Kunal simply enjoyed his stay at the crease as the match ended in a draw with no results being obtained at the end of the game’s play.
Young Comrade CC batting first at Azad Maidan could muster a total of 171/10 in 63 overs. Opening the innings Suraj Singh batted from start to end staying at the crease for as many as 63 overs. Suraj scored a solid 79* off 178 balls (3 fours) in what was an innings full of resistance, determination and solid technique. Suraj kept on rotating the strike despite wickets falling from the other end. From the bowlers, it was Mumbai Police Gymkhana’s young gun Aman Sheoran impressing one and all with his pace, line and length. The youngster came up with 5/29 in 13 overs which included 7 maidens. What’s more his spell also included a hat-trick where he took 2 wkts in the last two balls of the 2nd over of the game followed by a wicket in the 1st ball of the 3rd over of his spell. With his hat-trick he ran through the top 3 batman of Young Comrade CC. Apart from him, left arm spinner Yogesh Sawant took 4/34 in 16 overs.
20yr old quickster Aman Sheoran speaking with Cricketgraph said: Suraj was batting really well, he was surviving when most of the batters found it difficult. We had an interesting battle, he was dropped in my bowling when he was around 50 runs, next over i hit him on the helmet & he was basically playing me out after that. But overall, it was a good innings & an interesting sort of battle!
Mumbai Police Gymkhana for the loss of 2 wkts batted for 19 overs at the end of the game’s play where the match ended in a draw.
In what was a proper red ball contest, Suraj’s innings in many aspects reminded of England’s Mike Atherton who was known to survive & frustrate the feared pace attacks of South Africa & Australia. Mike in his prime used to be one difficult customer to get out! Suraj now has 3 back to back fifties in Kanga League sitting at no.2 in the top run-getters list. With 221 runs in 4 innings at an average of 73.67, he is certainly one batsman the opposition teams need to prepare for!
Payyade after putting MIG to bat first on their homeground were least affected as they notched up a strong 1st innings total on the board declaring at 220/8 in 50.3 overs. MIG Skipper Kevin who is playing for MIG since many years now continues to show consistency at the top order as he scored a back to back kanga half century. Kevin opening the innings scored a graceful 74 off 121 balls (6 fours, 2 sixes) while Gaurav Jathar who is MIG’s middle order mainstay who often chips in with crucial innings once again showed that middle order slot belongs to him hitting a timely 54 off 63 balls (5 fours, 1 six).
Payyade SC in reply found it difficult to dominate MIG bowlers on their hometrack as they were 6 down for 71 runs before the end of the game’s play where they batted for 29 overs.
Result: The match ended in a draw with no results being obtained.
PJ Hindu Gymkhana batting first on their homeground notched up a healthy total of 215/5 dec in 37.3 overs. Sachin Wagh coming at no.4 top scored for his team hitting a fluent 71 off 65 balls. Sachin who smashed 6 fours and 4 sixes also got decent support from Vishal Bhilare at no.5 who scored 57* off 69 balls (7fours, 2 sixes). It was on the back of their crucial 50’s, PJ Hindu Gymkhana were in a commanding position.
Parel SC in reply were bundled out for 109/10 in 26.5 overs thanks to some tight bowling by the experienced left arm spinners Salil Agharkar (3/39) and Harshal Merchant (4/20) who took 7 wkts between themselves. Receiving a follow on, Parel SC were 58/5 at the end of the game’s play where Salil took another 3 wkts in the 2nd innings taking his tally of wickets in the match to 6.

Parkohene Cricketers after being put to bat first on CCI’s own ground dominated the bowlers quite nicely thanks to some solid batting by Adeeb Usmani & Prasad Pawar. Adeeb who came at no.3 scored a brilliant 90 off 113 balls (5 fours, 4 sixes) while he also stitched a crucial 141 run stand for the 4th wicket with Prasad Pawar who scored 60 off 92 balls. While Adeeb was a mixture of aggression and grace, Prasad displayed some solidity at the middle order pushing Parkophene to a total of 255/8 dec in 59.3 overs. From CCI, all-rounder Sujit Nayak was the pick of the bowlers taking 4/52 in 14 overs.
CCI in reply got only 19 overs to bat before the end of the game’s play where match ended in a draw. Though the match could not extract any result but it was a delight to watch Prasad and Adeeb dominate the opposition on their own track. Wicket-keeper batsman Adeeb with 237 runs at an average of 118.50 so far with 3 consecutive fifties looks in surreal form as he will be a player to watchout for in the upcoming season.
It was a match between two really exciting teams, DY Patil is known for its deep and solid batting line up with experienced players alongwith senior bowlers while Young Mohmeddan CC is known for its young firepower blending with experienced local cricketers.
After being put to bat first on DY Patil’s homeground in Nerul, Young Mohmeddan CC were all out for 141/10 in 41.3 overs. Young Mohmeddan CC who were at one stage 3 down for 5 runs got back into the game with their middle and lower middle order playing some handy cameos. Left-arm spinner Karsh Kothari was the pick of the lot coming up with impressive bowling figures of 6/53 in 16.3 overs.
Bowling alongside experienced bowlers like Arun , PT and Bhoir, 23yr old Karsh certainly made an impact creating a space for himself in the powerful DY team.
DY Patil on the other hand surpassed the 1st innings lead declaring their innings at 143/7 in 33 overs winning the match on 1st innings lead. However, it was the father-son duo of Musheer Khan and Naushad Khan bagging all the 7 wkts between themselves. Musheer who is probably the youngest from both the teams managed to ruffle up the feathers of senior names like Subramaniam Doriaswamy, Kaustub Pawar, Sarvesh Damle amongst others. Musheer was allowed by MCA to play in local matches and he has certainly made a promising comeback in Kanga where he has chipped in with bat as well as with the ball.
Vijay CC after being put to bat first at Cross Maidan managed to put a total of 167/10 in 37.3 overs. Even though most of the batsman succumbed after giving a start, it was their no.3 batsman Chinmay Mohite playing an impressive knock of 62 runs in 71 balls. Chinmay smashed 5 fours while did some healthy running between the wickets to propel his team towards a decent total. From the bowlers, left arm spinner Shailesh Dubli was excellent with the ball coming up with envious bowling figures of 6/53 in 16.3 overs (4 maidens).
Esplanade Liberals CC in reply were bundled out for 73 runs in 26.2 overs thanks to a stunning spell by spinner Akash Dahiya. Conceeding mere 15 runs, Akash came up with a match winning spell of 6 wkts, 15 runs in 11 overs with 2 maidens. Akash did not allow any batsman to settle taking wickets at regular intervals while he was nicely supported by Dhiraj Raut who took 3/36 in 10.2 overs. Taking a follow on Esplanade Liberals batted for 16 overs for the loss of 2wkts in 2nd innings before the match ended with Vijay CC winning the match on 1st innings lead.
