With most of the batters struggling, it was Shashvat Jagtap (41) and Saiprasad Naidu (38) top scoring for Vijay Manjrekar XI. Left arm spinner Aman Manihar was simply spot on with the ball as he continues to prove effective with his wily spin taking 6/52 in 26.1 overs coupled with 12 maidens.

Dattu Phadkar XI in reply could only muster a total of 143 despite a solid 66 by their opener Dasrath Chavan. Dasrath batted for 44 overs facing 134 deliveries but he certainly lacked support from the other end. Left arm quickster Darshan Mangukia was the pick of the lot taking 4/27 with 8 maidens in 17 overs.

Vijay Manjrekar in 2nd innings declared at 246/9 thanks to Jay Jain’s crucial 68 at no.8 giving a target of 282 to Dattu Phadkar XI. Dattu Phadkar XI batted well in the 2nd innings in what seemed like a strong comeback thanks to opener Dasrath Chavan (88* off 146 balls) and Bhargav Patil (87 off 109 balls) stitching a almost match winning 174 run stand for the 5th wicket.  Both the batsman ensured their team did not get all out as they dodged the bowlers with resistance. However, Dattu Phadkar XI were 225/5 in 53 overs at the end of the game’s play where Vijay Manjrekar XI won the match on 1st innings lead.

Aman Manihar

It was a head to head exciting competition with some impressive performances right from Aman’s 10 wkt haul to Dasrath scoring twin fifties & batting for almost 97 overs in the match. Bhargav also played a fantastic known while from the opposition team, Jay Jain & Darshan Mangukia looked impressive.

For SKP athletics, right arm opening batsman Gautam Patkar scored 31 off 59 balls which was the highest score in the whole lineup. After putting Haryana to bat first, Mumbai bowlers gave a spirited performance with Haryana scoring 153/5 in 20 overs which is definitely a competitive total but in no means unachievable for the chasing side. Fast bowler Tushar Deshpande ensured to keep the batsman in check as the youngster came good conceding mere 27 runs for 2 wkts in his spell of 4 overs.

Tushar Deshpande

Chasing 154, the openers put on a quick 26 in the first 3.3 overs before Jay Bista got out for 13 runs. However, in no case was Mumbai put in a situation where they had to worry as skipper Suryakumar Yadav coming at no.3 went all guns blazing smashing a brilliant 81* off 38 balls (11 fours, 3 sixes). Not only are Surya’s knocks special because of the strike rate at which he plays but it becomes all the more pleasurable to watch for the quality and range of shots he displays making him one of the very few batsman of the current generation to have a 360* repertoire of shots. It’s because of his wide range of strokes and his growth in the last 3-4 years, most of the domestic bowlers rate his as a batsman which is difficult to bowl to.

Mumbai eventually chased it down in mere 15.4 overs winning the match by 8 wkts.

The match between Navroz Cricket Club and Lord North Brook Cricket Club was played at Navroz C.C (Azad maidan) on 3rd November. Lord north brook cricket club won the toss and elected to field first.

In response the batting scorecard of Lord North Brook Club had very little to boast of and the team was bowled out at mere 89 runs. In the second innings, Navroz Cricket Club’s could only manage to score 23 runs losing 1 wicket before the day ended.

Result-Match ended in a draw.

Vijay Merchant XI after being put to bat first at MCA, Kandivali notched up an impressive total of 302/10 in 90.5 overs. Left-handed opener Gautam Waghela flourished at the top of the order scoring a solid looking 95 off 153 balls. It was a strokeful innings laced with 14 boundaries while he also showed good temperament towards the fast bowlers.  All-rounder Aayush Zimare at no.6 also contributed with a crucial 64 off 132 balls (7 fours, 1 six) which pushed the team towards a total of 302/10 in 90.5 overs. From the bowlers, left arm spinner Aakash Sharma with 4/45 in 11.3 overs was the pick of the lot.

Khandu Ragnekar XI in reply had their top order batsman Shashvat J and Aadithyan Dev chipping in with 40’s but the batsman below them could not capitalize getting all out for 191 runs in 47.5 overs. It was a collective effort by the bowlers as Jai Choughule (3//46), Aayush Zimare (3/36), Om Padhiyar (2/23) and Umar Khan (2/24) all contributed with wickets.

Aayush Zimare

Vijay Merchant XI in the 2nd innings declared their innings at 171/6 giving a target of 283 runs to which Khandu Ragnekar XI scored 197/4 in reply batting for 61 overs before the end of the game’s play where Vijay Merchant XI were declared winners on the basis of 1st innings lead.

Mumbai team after being put to bat first were off to a decent start with openers putting on 47 runs for the 1st wicket. However, the storm was about to hit Railways which was surely not expected by them by Mumbai’s no.4 hitter Sairaj Patil. Known for his helicopter shots and clean sixes at Mumbai Club and Local level, Sairaj converted his big hitting ability on a bigger platform for the Mumbai team as he thrashed the Railways bowlers for towering sixes.

Mumbai who were silently cruising at 118/2 in 26.3 overs on the back of Bhupen’s solid 52 suddenly got their gears shifted as Sairaj coming at the middle order went on to decimitate the bowlers hitting 8 fours and 5 sixes en-route his match winning 113* off 69 balls. The death overs  were perfectly played by him and wicket keeper Adeeb Usmani who was also impressive in his knock of 49* (31 balls).

Shreyas Gurav

Railways in reply were bundled out for 139 runs in 27 overs thanks to some tight bowling by Shreyas Gurav (4/19 in 8 overs) & Salman Khan (3/53 in 9 overs). It was a commanding win by 180 runs for Mumbai while Sairaj Patil definitely stood out as the highlight performer of the day.

It’s always fun to see your batters chip in with some bowling and especially when they are quite effective with it. Even at international level, we had Sourav Ganguly (132 wkts), Virender Sehwag (136 wkts), Yuvraj Singh (148 wkts), Sachin Tendulkar (200 wkts) all having more than 100 international wickets & 5 wkt hauls to their name.

The very reason that they don’t bowl often ensures that the opposite team is unprepared to face a relatively unknown bowler & icing on the cake becomes that our part timers many a times prove to be quite spot on.  One such case happened just a day back in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy when our Mumbai team’s batting mainstay Siddhesh Lad came in & made life difficult for the Mizoram batters.

After opting to field first, Mizoram were restricted to mere 77 runs all out in 19.3 overs. Siddhesh after being handed over the ball bowled full quota of 4 overs to become the pick of the lot taking 5/13 taking crucial top and middle order wickets. Tushar Deshpande with 2/8 in 2.3 overs also looked dangerous in his limited spell. Looking at some of his wickets, he was completely enjoying his role of being a part timer as for Mumbai it was a cakewalk to chase 77 runs.

Jay Bista

Opener Jay Bista (54* off 25 balls) went all guns blazing with his senior Pro Aditya Tare (22*) as Mumbai team won the match by 10wkts and 8 overs to spare.

Payyade SC opting to bat first at Shivaji Park Gymkhana could muster up only a modest total of 80/9 in 20 overs. Opener Radhika Thakkar top scored with 21 runs while most of the batters struggled. From the bowlers it was Sarika Koli with 2/11 in 3 overs being the pick of the lot.

Defending a low total was obviously going to pose a challenge to the bowlers but Payyade Girls ensured their fighting spirit weighed heavy over the opposition. Amruta Parab bagged 3 wkts conceding mere 2 runs in 2 overs while Nilofer who has been a revelation with the ball this tournament also contributed under pressure coming up with 3/18 in 4 overs as both the bowlers changed the game for Payyade restricting Mumbai Police Gymkhana to 38 all out in 13.2 overs.

With this win by 42 runs, Payyade SC team lift the prestigious title of the Ajit Naik Memorial Trophy.

Kerala Windsor opting to bat first at Khar Gymkhana posted a total of 163/10 in 46.1 overs. Most of the batters gave starts but failed to convert them into 50’s or something more than that. Mohan CC bowlers did a neat job with Rohit Sawant being the pick of the bowlers taking 4/42 in 14 overs while Ramiz Darvesh and Kawaldeep Singh picking two wickets each.

Mohan CC in reply displayed their batting firepower playing in T20 mode declaring their innings after amassing 180/5 in just 20 overs. Opener Ramiz Darvesh went all guns blazing as he went on to plunder the bowling attack right from the beginning smashing 4 fours and 4 sixes enroute his brilliant 51 off 24 balls. Even though he stayed at the crease for just 33 mins but he ensured he created havoc to the bowlers for whatever time he was on the ground.

The positive momentum was further capitalized by all-rounder Rohit Sawant who also played a blinder of a knock hitting an unbeaten 71* off 39 balls (6 fours, 5 sixes). Kerala Windsor batted for 14 overs in the 2nd innings with opener Rohan Punjani (52* off 37 balls) & Sahil Purohit at no.3 scoring 52* off 38 balls giving a fightback in the 2nd innings.

However the game ended in a draw with Mohan CC being declared winners on 1st innings lead. It was an exciting match where the batsman were in T20 mode from both the sides while Ramiz certainly brought up the fastest fifty in Kanga League’19 for this season.

Dahisar Sports Club batting first notched up a healthy total of 202/9 dec in 57 overs for their 1st innings. The top order chipped in well with contributions while it was opener Kaustubh Tathare top scoring in the match with a brilliant 54 runs off 96 balls. From the bowlers, spinner Vikrant Gupta with 4/71 in 22 overs was the pick of the lot.

Kaustubh Tathare

Medium Pacer Abhijit Sarmalkar was the pick of the lot taking 5/24 in 9.1 overs with 2 maidens running through the top and middle order of Star CC while the icing on the cake was provided by the experienced left arm spinner Paras Shah who cleaned up the lower order with the 2nd hat-trick of the season. Paras was equally impressive with the ball taking 3/3 in 8 overs coupled with 5 maidens.

Paras Shah

It was on the back of some excellent bowling by Paras and Abhijit, Dahisar SC team won the match on 1st innings lead.
