Mumbai: Bombay Gymkhana registered a facile 115-run win against Union Cricket Club in a Group-C first round match of the Dr H.D. Kanga Knockout cricket tournament 2023, and played at the Bombay Gymkhana ground, on Sunday.
Chosing to bat after winning the toss, Bombay Gymkhana powered by the half century knocks from Nishad Gabhawala 76 runs and Arjun Baigatkar 57 runs piled up a fighting total of 292 for 9 wickets from their quota of 45 overs. Baliram Pal chipped in with 49 runs, while Union CC bowlers Arun Kelaskar (4/37) and Sandeep Joshi (3/47) were responsible for picking the wickets. In reply, Union CC were dismissed for 177 runs in 34.4 overs. Vivek Samogar waged a lone battle making a valiant 91 runs.
In another match, Bandra Gymkhana posted a thumping 179-run win against Shri Shivaji CC. Bandra Gymkhana batters Jitesh Purabia 95 runs, Deepak Bhogle 58 runs and Mehul Gokani 39 runs helped build a huge total. Later, Bandra Gymkhana bowlers Amit Rathod (3/21 and Bhavik Patel 3/26) broke the Shivaji CC batting and bundled them out 113 runs in 22.3 overs to complete their easy win.

Mumbai, April 28, 2023: After a hiatus of three years, the Mumbai Cricket Club (MCC) and Jwala Sports Foundation (JSF) will resume their annual MitsuiShoji T20 Cricket League. MCC and JSF are keen to organize Season 9 of the Cricket League, which will commence from Monday, May 1, 2023. The final is slated to be played on May 20, 2023.
The MitsuiShoji League was not conducted in the last three years due to the Covid 19 pandemic restrictions and keeping in mind the safety aspects of the young cricketers.
Jwala Singh, founder of the MitsuiShoji Cricket League said, “I am happy to restart this league again as its very close to my heart. When we started this in year 2011 there were no T20 cricket tournaments. But now I am happy to see that there are many new leagues coming up which is really good for Mumbai cricket”.
“This league has always being backed and supported by Mr. Lal Bharwaney, an Indian businessman, based in Korea. He has been associated with this event, since its inception in 2011. Bharwaney is an ardent cricket enthusiast and has played a major role in the conduct of the MitsuiShoji T20 Cricket League.”

Jwala Singh also revealed that the MCC and JSF have from Season 9 decided to honour a media person and a renowned coach. “I am extremely proud to announce that from the Season 9 League, we have instituted a special award to be presented each to a sports journalist and a grassroots level cricket coach. These awards are in recognition of the efforts of the journalists and the coach who really work hard to support grassroots level players. Sadly their efforts always went unnoticed. We all experienced how many where helpless during Covid times and very few people came forward in support, this will be a very small contribution from MCC. The awards will be presented on the final day during the prize distribution function.”
Five teams — Bandra Heroes, Ghatkopar Jets, Mumbai Police City Riders, Shivaji Park Heroes and Thane Marathas, will be competing for the top honours. The initial phase will be a double-leg round-robin league format and the top four teams will qualify for the semi-finals.
The total prize fund for league is approx Rs 2 lakh, including all individual prizes. Every winner of the ‘Man of the Match’ awards will receive Rs 2500 plus gifts.
In the past accomplished cricketers, including Sri Lankan Chaminda Vaas, and Mumbai top-notch players like Wasim Jaffer, Prithvi Shaw, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shivam Dubey, Shams Mulani, Amol Mazumdar, Bhavin Thakker, Vinayak Samant, Vinayak Mane, Arman Jaffer, Hardik Tamore and many established names have been part of the league either as players and/or member of the coaching staff.
The opening ceremony and the first match will be played at the Mumbai Police Gymkhana ground, Marine Drive. Mumbai Police City Riders and Bandra Heroes will clash in the first match. Besides Police Gymkhana ground, matches would also be played at the Oval Maidan and Air India ground, Kalina.
The Grand Finals of the League will be played in presence of legendary fast bowler Chaminda Vaas on 20th May under floodlights at Mumbai Police Gymkhana.
The Mumbai Cricket Club (MCC) along with Jwala Sports Foundation and Mitsui Shoji has always strived hard from the development and promotion of cricket and encouragement of young talented cricketers in the city of Mumbai and the suburban areas of the city. Mumbai, April 30: Buoyed by Krishna Yadav’s unbeaten 106 runs (109-balls, 14×4,1×6) knock Morajee Velji CC registered a thumping 123-run victory over Palanpur CC in a Group-F first round match of the Dr H.D. Kanga Knockout cricket tournament 2023, and played at the LIC ground, Cross Maidan on Sunday.
Electing to bat first, Morajee Velje riding on number 8 bat Yadav who cracked a century and No. 9 bat Harun P who made an unbeaten 37 runs reached a challenging total of 246 for 8 wickets from their 45 overs. Later, Morajee Velji did well to dismiss Palanpur CC for 73 runs in 23.4 overs. Tejas T. claimed 4 wickets for 26 runs and Harsh P. took 2 wickets for just 2 runs.
In a Group-B match, the fine all-round efforts of Shekar Dalvi who picked 5 wickets for 17 runs and opener Bhavik Amlani century innings of 52 runs steer Aarey CC to a comfortable 7 wicket win against Oriental CC.
Earlier, the prestigious Dr H.D. Kanga Knockout cricket tournament 2023 was inaugurated by MCA Secretary Ajinkya Naik, Joint Secretary Deepak Patil along with Rahul Sagar, of Bombay Gymkhana and Nirlon Sports Club and in the presence of MCA Apex Council Members at the Bombay Gymkhana on Sunday morning. A total number of 133 maidan clubs affiliated to MCA are participating in the tournament. The top 16 clubs will qualify to participate in the ‘H’ Division of the Kanga League next season.

Mumbai, April 28: Awais Khan’s splendid all-round showing 3 wickets for 42 runs and cracking knock of 90 runs was the highlight of Sind Sports Club’s convincing 8-wicket win against Navroz Cricket Club in a Group-C league match of the 2nd MCA Under-19 Cricket Tournament organized by Bhama CC in association with Mumbai Cricket Club and played at the Navroz CC ground.
Batting first Navroz CC were bowled out for 186 runs in 27.4 overs. Aditya Jha top-scored with 67 runs while Sind SC bowlers S. Walakar 4 wickets for 29 runs and Awais Khan dismissed the opposition. In response, Sind SC, boosted by Awais solid innings and Harsh Gharsunker 36 runs, comfortably reached 187 runs for 2 wickets in 26.2 overs to complete the win.
Meanwhile, Muslim United recorded their fourth successive win in Group-F as they defeated Crescent CC by 6 wickets. Crescent Cricket Club scored 172 runs for 9 wickets in 35 overs. Atharva Vichare and Parth Mayekar scored 76 and 40 runs respectively to lift the Crescent CC innings while Khush Jain 2 for 27 and Ayan Shaikh 2 for 30 claimed the wickets. Later, Muslim United SC batted confidently and crossed the finish line making 173 runs for 4 wickets in 31 overs. Dhruv Thakkar 60 ensured his team reached the winning target and to complete the win.
In other matches, hosts Bhama CC registered a fluent 56-run win against United Cricketers and John Bright CC carved out a hard-fought 2-run win against Mumbai Cricket Club.

Milton Cricket Club dominated int their first match of the Kanga Knockout at DPC, Matunga against Jaideep Cricket Club. After a crucial toss victory, Milton CC elected to bowl first. Jaideep CC could muster up only 105 runs as they were bowled out in the 26th over. Just two batsman passed the 20-run mark in the first innings. From Milton, Mann Koli bowled an exceptional spell of 6 overs, claiming 4/20 with 2 maidens two his name. He was well supported by Siddhant Welankar who picked up 3 wickets.
A strong bowling effort by Milton in the first innings gave them the upper hand by the end of the first innings. The batsmen took little to no effort while chasing down the target. Chasing just 106, Piyush Shapur hammered and unbeaten 80 off just 48 balls. His innings comprised of 11 fours and 2 sixes. His bombarding innings helped Parth Mayekar rotate strike without pressure.
Ultimately, the target was achieved in just 13 overs without losing a wicket. A dominant display from Milton saw them advance to the next round of the knockout tournament.
Boys CC (B) had a torrid time against Vijay Indap CC in the Aimees Under-14 Cricket Tournament as they were bowled out for just 94 by the 20th over. Aarush Iyer’s spell of 4/14 in 5.4 overs dismantled the batting line up alongside Parshwa Satra (4/25). Despite their best efforts, Boys CC could claim only 4 wickets in the second innings as Vijay Indap CC won the game comfortably.
MTNL faced MSGPCL Sports Club in the MCA Corporate Trophy 2023. MTNL managed to score 216 in 20 overs with a monumental batting effort from the top 4. Sanket Chavan (40* off 35) and Durgesh Deorghekar (41 off 19) finished off the innings in a strong manner as opener Sanket Paralkar was forced to retire hurt after a brisk 38 but Harsh Gharsun at the top of the order hammered a crucial knock off 79 off just 55 balls. His innings comprised of 11 fours and a six.
After a subpar outing the the ball, MSPGCL’s time with the bat was not upto the mark as they were bowled out just 70 by the 17th over. Mihir Jadhav claimed 3 wickets as a commanding bowling effort saw MTNL win by 146 runs.
The MCA Summer Camps for age groups are a stepping stone for every cricketer in Mumbai. With supreme talent to compete with for the off-season MCA Probables, players get a great opportunity to play the selection matches after getting selected for an MCA center. DPC SC locked horns against Mumbai Police Gymkhana. Mumbai Police Gymkhana were bowled out for just 154 in the finals over of the innings. Adarsh Yadav high-scored with 64 runs to his name. Vishal Yadav from DPC claimed 4 wickets in 6.5 overs. A splendid bowling effort saw DPC take control of the game by the end of the first innings.
Tushar Singh kicked off the runchase by scoring a quick fire 63 by him alongwith Harshvardhan (45 off 47) formed a 103-run opening partnership. After their dismissal, Soham Dhumal’s aggressive 34 off just 16 balls secured a dominant victory for DPC by 8 wickets as they chased down the target in just 20 overs.
Dadar Parsee Colony took on DY Patil in the U-19 MCA Tournament. After batting first, DPC posed a commanding total of 214 in just 35 overs. Opener, Harshvardhan Pande scored an enigmatic century off just 96 balls. His 106 comprised of 15 fours and a six. Apart from him, Prem Lengre contributed 47, forming a crucial partnership with Pande. On the bowling side, Asaduddin Choudhary claimed 4 wickets for 38 as Jagdish Ranka took 3 wickets.
As DY Patil set out to chase, they lost timely wickets. Aryan Kumar (3/16) and Mohit Singh (3/27) wrecked the top order as Vishal Yadav’s 4/31 finished off the final few wickets. Ultimately, DPC won comfortably by 83 runs.
