Brothers Club batting first at Matunga Gymkhana posted a total of 238/9 in 47 overs. With most of the players finding it difficult to score more than 20, it was Mithlesh Yadav who showed solid resistance towards the opposition bowlers scoring a brilliant 109 off 133 balls (8 fours, 2 sixes). In numerous Cosmopolitan Matches which were conducted on Sunday, Mithlesh is the only player to score a hundred last weekend. Mithlesh also stitched a 91 run stand with Haresh Dodia (43) who looked good for 64 ball stay at the crease. Spinner Omkar Jadhav with 4/59 in 8 overs was the pick of the lot from Matunga Gymkhana.

Chasing 260, Matunga Gymkhana were all out for 213 runs with opener Adhiraj Dabholkar (59) & Aditay Pandey (42) top scoring for their team. Left arm spinner and all rounder Rakesh Naik brought in his experience as he took 5/32 in 8.3 overs which did the job for his team as Brothers Club won the match by 25 runs.

CHANAWALA CHALLENGERS T-40 TROPHY 2019-20, 11 JANUARY 2020, MUMBAI : – Abbott healthcare Pvt. Ltd (AHPL) VS SOTC Travel Limited (SOTCTL), SOTCTL won the toss and elected to FIELD first. The match was played at Azad Maidan on 11th Jan 2020. The pitch was a bit uneven and damp at the start.

AHPL Opener Shantanu Chuaudhary scored a decent 32 off 39 balls and Devang Acharya also scored a patient 30 off 56 balls. Taking the innings forward and continuing the controlled comprehensive nature of the innings, Ishan Mithbhavkar scored a rigid fifty off 74 balls but the pick of the batsmen was Sunil Lakka who played very aggressively and scored a splendid 63 runs off 32 balls. He provided the important late flourish to the innings. He hit 3 sixes and 5 fours. They scored total of 225 runs in 40 overs in 5 wickets. For SOTCTL, Riyaz Singh picked up 2 wickets.

Chasing a score of 225 runs, SOTCTL scorecard had very little to boast of and the highest scorer was Sachin Sawant who scored 27 runs only. They scored a total of 101 runs only. For AHPL, birthday boy Sunil Lakka who hammered the opposition bowlers earlier also gifted himself a shining figure with the bowl. He captured a wonderful fifer giving only 10 runs in 4 overs. Overall it was a fantastic outing with the ball as well as bat by the AHPL team.

THANE VAIBHAV INTER OFFICE CRICKET TOURNAMENT 2019-20, 9 JANUARY 2020, THANE : After winning the toss, CENTURY REYON decided to put MUMBAI FIRE BRIGADE to BAT first. The match took place at Central Maidan, Thane on 9th Jan 2020.

Openers didn’t have a superb start and at a position Mumbai Fire Brigade were 28 for 2, then No.3 Hanuj Ambhire scored a brilliant century with a mix of early patience and calculated aggression. Hanuj played a very vital knock to ameliorate the innings and he was provided with the strong assistance of Milind Arekar. Milind scored a very diligent 46 runs off 62 balls. Mumbai fire scored 226 runs after the end of 35 overs losing 5 wickets.

Century Reyon didn’t have enough performances to carry out the task. Except Vinay Kene who scored 64 off 76 balls, there were no big inputs from other batsmen. Proving their bowling prowess once again Mumbai fire brigade bowlers Kiran, Rupesh and Adarsh picked up couple of wickets each and it was a great performance with the ball. They also fielded well which has been the newest improvement in their team’s arsenal. They bowled out Century Reyon for 132 runs in 30.1 overs.

RESULT : – Mumbai Fire Brigade won by 94 runs.

Camp Warriors after being put to bat first at Somaiya Cricket Ground posted a more than decent total of 174/3 in 20 overs. Even though they lost both their openers early, it was Sangram Singh scoring a brilliant knock of 93 runs in 63 balls. Sangram played a perfect no.3 knock hitting 11 fours and 3 sixes while anchoring his team towards a respectable total. Apart from him, Nikhil Kothari (27) & Kalpesh Jain (15* off 8) provided handy cameos at the middle order.

It was indeed a tough competition, the kind of games which makes Cricket so interesting, BD Royals till the very last over ensured Camp Warriors remained on their toes as they fell only 6 runs short of winning the semi finals. BD Royals managed to reach 168//7 in 20 overs with opener Kumar Adnani (34 off 18) and Sumeet Gupta (34 off 26) giving flying starts.  Ankit Agarwal down the order did manage to give some jitters with his 9 ball 20*, however the bowlers got the better of the opposition & especially Alpesh Jain who changed the game with his spell of 4/31 in 4 overs with a maiden.

Into the all important finals between Achievers Cricket Academy & Mulund Gymkhana at the MIG Ground, Mulund Gymkhana batting first posted a total of 115/2 in 15 overs. Opener Saif Khan top scored with an aggressive knock of 60 runs for Mulund Gymkhana.

 

Achievers Cricket Academy in reply successfully chased down the total winning the match by 8 wkts. Opener Taukeer Khan top scored with 49 runs of 41 balls while Veer Pandey at no.4 remained unbeaten scoring 21* off 19 balls as Achievers Academy sailed through with ease winning the finals and lifting the prestigious MIG U10 Trophy.

This is the 2nd Year MIG is conducting U10 Tournament and probably the first in Mumbai to conduct U10 Tournament with no entry fees for any participating team. In total 18 teams had participated in this tournament which was conducted between 25th to 27th December.

Young Comrade CC batting first at PJ Hindu Gymkhana, Marine Lines posted a healthy total of 392/6 in 70 overs which in anyday is a good total to defend. After their top order consisting of Suraj Singh (73) & Yogesh Dongare (68) giving a solid start with a 120 run stand for the 2nd wicket, it was Dhruven at no.4 perfectly carrying on the positive momentum. Dhruven went on to hit a counter attacking knock of 113*in just 80 balls as he smashed 17 fours to take on the bowlers with pure domination. Mayuresh Tandel with 47 runs gave good support while Nikhil Jadhav remained 37* at the end of Young Comrade’s innings.

Sind SC on the back of Satyalaksh Jain’s solid 91 off 125 balls (9 fours, 3 sixes) did manage to ruffle up the feathers of the opposition but Sind SC eventually were all out for 274 runs in 51.4 overs. The bowlers did a commendable job with Akram Shaikh and skipper Shamit Shetty bagging 3 wkts each.

 

Young Comrade CC eventually went on to win the match by 118 runs.

SPORTSZONE T20 (JFSC) PUNE CRICKET TOURNAMENT 2019-20, 4th January, 2020, Pune : The semifinal match witnessed the clash between MES cricket club (MESCC) and Soft Hard (SOFTHARD). The match wad conducted at Varrock Vengsarkar cricket ground, Pune on 4th January 2019-20. Jolly friends sports club organized the match.

MESCC won the toss and elected to FIELD first. The wicket had the typical dampness on it for the first few overs and later it improved.

SOFTHARD after 5 overs were 18 for 2. After that Ajit Gawhane and Praful Mankar stitched a partnership of 44 runs, which was followed by a 49 runs partnership between Ajit and Ashok Gaikwad. Ajit Gawhane steadied the innings at the beginning and later upped the tempo. He scored 51 runs off 37 runs. Ashok Gaikwad put in the final punches at the end providing the fiery finish,he scored 43 runs off only 26 runs. Altogether, they scored a total of 145 runs in 20 overs losing

Kartik Pillai of MESCC picked up couple of wickets for 39 runs.

MESCC’s top order failed miserably and at 9.2 overs they were struggling at 66 for 5. Then Rohit Hadake and Avinash Shinde pulled off an amazing win for their team by building an incredible partnership of 82 runs. They played with a positive outlook with calculated shots and they initially relied on taking clinical singles and double. Eventually both of them scored half centuries, Rohit (52 off 40) and Avinash( 52 off 32 ) both ensured their team cross the winning line and secured a place for them in the finals.

RESULTS- MESCC won the match by 5 wickets.

Utpal Warriors opting to bat first at Somaiya Cricket Ground posted a total of 136/4 in 20 overs which in many cases is easy to chase and sometimes it’s quite tricky too! After a decent opening start by Jinen Shah and Ravi Kapoor, it was Kalpesh Mehta at no.4 top scoring with 41* off 37 balls (3 fours), Kalpesh as always has proved to be the Mr.Dependable for his team as he time and again comes up with crucial knocks. From the bowlers, Mittal Joshi with 2/22 was the pick of the lot.

Super Strikers in reply could not chase down a not so threatening total on the boards as bowlers of Utpal Warriors did a commendable job.  Raj Gogate’s 31 was the only score which could pose some trouble as most of the batters found it difficult to get going.

The match turned out to be a last over thriller but Utpal Warriors got the better of the opposition as they restricted Super Strikers to 127/all out in 20 overs. Vishal Merwana was spot on with bowling figures of 3/21 in 4 overs while Shakti Kapoor with 3/19 in 4 overs was equally impressive.

Bhatnagar Sports & Cultural Foundation batting first at Parsee Gymkhana posted a very healthy total of 341/8 in 70 overs. With a dismal top order start with scoreboard reading 33/3, it was Yash Salunke and Dhanraj Shinde at no.4 & 5 stitching a game changing stand of 189 runs for the 5th wicket. While Yash displayed a solid composure holding fort en-route his 123* off 191 balls (10 fours), it was the big man Dhanraj Shinde once again showing his hitting capabilities. Dhanraj scored a stunning knock of 135 runs in mere 66 balls which had as many 13 sixes and 7 fours. Dhanraj who scored the fastest Kanga ton last year now adds one more feather to his cap with the fastest hundred in Purshottam Shield Tournament.

Regal CC in reply were all out for 287 runs with Sumedh Kamble (73) and Tushar Armarkar (47*) being the top scorers. Left arm spinner Akshay Darekar also played a crucial role in Bhatnagar’s win by 54 runs as he came up with a spell of 4/75 in 22.4 overs.

Played at the iconic Dadaji Konddev Stadium, Thane, it was Bengal which witnessed a batting collapse after electing to bat first getting all out for just 91 runs in their 1s innings. Fast Bowler Minad Manjrekar with 4/14 in 9 overs alongwith 3 maidens was spitting fire in the early sessions while spinner Shreyas Gurav chipped in with 4/21 in 8.2 overs.

Mumbai in reply posted a gigantic total dominating Bengal bowlers in supreme fashion. After a decent top order start with Aman Khan (49) & Hardik Tamore (41) chipping in with 40’s, it was Agni Chopra at no.4 & Chinmay Sutar at no.6 putting on a massive 343 run stand for the 5th wicket. Left hander Agni Chopra smashed a brilliant 201 off 247 balls (21 fours & 7 sixes) while Chinmay Sutar was at his elegant best hitting a solid 142 off 200 balls laced with 11 fours and 5 sixes as Mumbai posted a 1st innings total of 547/10 in 117 overs.

With a massive 2nd innings trail of 456 runs, Bengal had no chance but to dodge till the game gets over and with a bowling attack which Mumbai had, it was surely going to be difficult for Bengal team to survive. Eventually, Bengal were all out for 81 runs in their 2nd innings with spinner Tanush Kotian bagging an impressive 6/35 in 8 overs as Mumbai won the match by an innings & 375 runs.
