Played between Reliance Sports Club and DTDC Express Ltd, Reliance batting first at Azad Maidan were bundled out for 98 runs in mere 36.4 overs, courtesy a brilliant spell of bowling by Bhavik Patel which reduced the opposition in a two digit total. Bhavik Patel emerged to be the pick of the bowlers coming up with exceptional bowling figures of 5/14 which caused a big dent in Reliance SC’s innings.

The target was easily chased down by DTDC thanks to Sushant Kadam’s brilliant 55* as DTDC wont the game by 6wkts and qualified for the semi finals of the Times Shield tournament.

Played between DTDC and Alcargo at the Youth’s Own Union CC, DTDC after being put to bat first posted a decent total of 243/6 in 45 overs. After a brilliant start by their openers Abhinav Jagtap (43) and Sushant Kadam (54), it was Rakesh Naik at the middle order top scoring with 84 runs in 74 balls.

 

Alcargo in reply were cleaned up for 124 runs, courtesy some tight bowling by Rakesh Naik (4/27 in 8.25 overs) & Bhavik Patel (3/35 in 8 overs). Skipper Kishor Waghela also chipped in with a wicket in his spell of 1/9 in 4 overs as DTDC won the semi final match by 119 runs.

Played between Brothers Club and Young Maharashtra CC at the National CC, Cross Maidan, Brothers Club batting first posted a total of 186/9 dec where in Haresh Dodia at the middle order top scored with 47 runs.

Defending a low total, it was left arm spinner Balwant Dodake who spun a web over Young Maharashtra CC with a fantastic spell of 7/18 in 7.4 overs. Balwant was not only impressive in containing the batsman, he also turned the ball well providing breakthroughs at regular junctures which restricted Young Maharashtra team to 104 runs all out in 29.4 overs helping Brothers Club win the game by 82 runs.

MILAN T20 PINK BALL TOURNAMENT 2019-20, 18 January 2020 Mumbai : Abbott took on Orix India on 18th January 2020 at Cross Maidan. Toss won by Abbott and elected to BAT first.

After being 53-2 in 8.2 overs. Abbott’s No.3 Ishan Mithbavkar and Shantanu Chaudhari built the innings and Shantanu especially was the aggressor and dictated the terms to the opposition. Ishan played the cog in the partnership scoring 53 runs off 43 balls that included 8 fours. Shantanu mustered 9 fours and scored 61 runs off just 37 balls. The end attack was also served by a 12 balls knock of 24 runs off Sunil Lakka’s bat. With a cumulative effort, Abbott reached a score of 183 runs.

Orix India was up for a quality chase but the batting performance was abysmal on the day. With mostly single digit scores, it was difficult for them to fetch the runs and built crucial partnerships. They were bundled out for 86 runs only and in 13.1 overs. For Abbott, Pacer Sandesh Agare and left arm spinner Sandesh bhoir picked up 3-fers each. Abott players were agile on the field and they affected two run outs too.Other bowlers also yielded positive outcomes and overall, the Abbott side was clinical and dominating in their performance.

Played between two big corporate teams namely Datamatics Global and WNS Global Services at the Goregaon Sports Club, Datamatics Global opting to bat first posted a total of 242/8 in 45 overs. Once again it was their young talent Yogesh Shinde who came up with a rescuing knock for his team scoring almost half of the team runs. Opening the innings, Yogesh remained unbeaten till the very end scoring a confident looking 120*off 135 balls laced with 13 boundaries. Yogesh in his previous game had scored 134 vs Food Corporation of India in mere 92 balls.

Thanks to some tight bowling by the Datamatics bowlers, the total was successfully defended with WNS getting all out for 201 runs. Left arm spinner Neeraj Singh with 3/49 was the pick of the lot while Ritesh Palav and Shashank Jadhav bagged 2 wkts a piece. For WNS, it was their opener Ajinkya Patil top scoring with a gritty 54.

If there is one batsman who is making waves in professional cricket, it has to be Hitesh Gujar. Hitesh has been in tremendous form this season and he has scored some thrilling knocks showcasing his dangerous ability with the willow in his hands. Playing for DSP team in the Architects T20 League Season 8, Hitesh began the season with glorious knocks of 27 ball 45 vs  Dynamites followed by a stunning 59 ball 101 vs HAS Challengers. If you think that is enough, well he also smashed a 68 ball 132 a few days back making it the 2nd hundred of the tournament.

Ajit Kalwar who plays for Mahim team in the Shri Barku G Patil T20 league has been one difficult bowler to face this season. His spells of 4/9 in 4 overs with a maiden vs Airoli or his spell of 3/17 in 4 overs vs Tvacha are testimonies of his impressive as well as tight bowling. It is on the basis of his consistent bowling performances in a difficult format like T20 for bowlers that he was awarded the famed Automotive Purple Cap for the month of December’19

The competition was really heavy on who would become the Automotive Most Popular Player in Professional Cricket for the month of Decemeber’19. You can makeout by the fact that the top 3 Contenders had a net accumulation of close to 5000 votes!

However, Sayed Siddiqui seems to be enjoying a lot of popularity in the Professional Cricket Circuit as he became an unmatched winner with 2004 votes to his name! His closest competitor Tausif Khan did fairly well with 1139 votes to his name. Sayed has also been one reliable bowler and his performances for MPA Ithiad XI team in the MCA Thane tournament has been really consistent. Sayed had taken 3/12 in 1.4 overs vs MDF team followed by a miserly spell of 2/20 in 3 overs vs BMPA Team.

The final of the Zooter’s International School Dad’s Tournament 2019-20 was played at the DY Patil Ground in Pune. JNS Jaguars went head to head with UTPAL Warriors for the title. JNS Jaguars won the toss and decided to chase in the final.

Put into bat, UTPAL Warriors managed a mere 115/9 at the end of 20 overs. The Jaguars bowlers bowled to perfect line and length and the UTPAL Warriors batsman never got going. Jairaj Bisht, the right arm fast bowler, took 2/22 from his 4 overs while Atul Ganeriwal took 2/9 from his two overs. The highest scorer for UTPAL Warriors was Asgar Khan who scored 29.

JNS Jaguars needed just 116 runs to win the final and got off to a flying start. Opener Bhaktiyar Irani scored a blistering 54* of 25 balls. His knock included 6 fours and 2 sixes! He was well supported by his opening partner Jay Pandya who scored 35 of 27 balls. This right handed duo scored 77 runs for the first wicket and the Jaguars chased down the target comfortably with 9 overs and 9 wickets to spare.

JNS Jaguars became the crowned Champions of the Zooter’s International School’s Dad’s Tournament. Bhaktiyar Irani was declared “Man of the Match” in the finals now for two years in a row.

Lilavati Hospital after being put to bat first at the Dadaji Konddev Stadium, Thane were all out for a modest total of 106 runs in 24.5 overs. Most of the Lilavati Players found it difficult to convert their starts as Datamatics bowlers proved to be quite spot on.  With 2 wkts each, Yogesh Shinde (2/11) and Shashank Jadhav (2/13) were the pick of the bowlers for Datamatics.

In reply, Datamatics chased down the score in 22.1 overs with Om Keshkamat providing a crucial cameo of 37*off 33 balls (7 fours). Om continued to play his natural game even though wickets were falling from the other end with pressure mounting on the team. Datamatics lost a few quick wickets in between but they eventually won the game by 4 wkts with Om Keshkamat declared “man of the match”

In probably one of the most awaited matches of the Purshottam Shield, two of the strongest and most powerful A Division Clubs took on each other at the iconic DY Patil ground in Nerul. After being put to bat first, DY Patil posted a total of 319/6 in 70 overs powered by a brilliant 181 run stand between opener Sumit Ghadigaonkar and no.3 batsman Srujan Athawale. Sumit scored a handsome knock of 80 runs in 111 balls while it was Srujan top scoring for the team hitting a fluent 109 in 113 balls (9 fours, 7 sixes). At the middle order, it was their reliable Siddarth Chitnis (60) & Subramanian Doraiswamy (42*) providing the finishing touch to DY Patil’s innings. From the bowlers, spinner Vinit Dhulap with 3/81 was the pick of the lot.

MIG who boast of an equally good batting line up were reduced to 205 runs all out on DY’s den spinners Pravin Tambe and Karsh Kothari proved quite heavy on the batters. The amazing combination of veteran Tambe (3/58) with his right arm leg break and the young Karsh Kothari (3/39) with his left arm spin once again worked for DY Patil team as they took 6 wkts between themselves. For MIG, Gaurav Jathar who has been in excellent form this season continued his form with a yet another half century scoring 71 off 97 balls.

DY Patil won the semi-finals by 114 runs and will lock horns with New Hind Sporting Club who defeated Islam Gymkhana by 9 wkts at the Dadkar Maidan on the same day. In the other semi finals, the star player was the experienced Bhavin Thakkar who took 3 wkts conceding just 1 run vs Islam Gymkhana.
