EM’s opener Daiwat Rane and Prathamesh Naik were the pick of the performers. They stitched a partnership of 159 runs in the middle for the 4th wicket and it totally soared the innings total into a higher level. He got the perfect support from Naik who scored a praise worthy innings of 64 runs off 78 balls.Daiwat scored a brilliant 116 off 106 balls and remained not out.EM scored 252 runs in 36 overs but due to slow over rate, they were awarded more 78 runs to the total that ballooned their score to 330. For AHL, Aviraj Mhatre and Harshal Vapilkar picked up 2 wickets each.
AHL’s batting performance was very abysmal, lack of high scorers and partnerships led them to a mere 158 runs in response. They were all out in 39 overs. Rahul Ghodke who played an innings of 42 off 102 balls was the only worthy mention. For EM, left arm spinner Ajay Thorat picked up an impressive figure of 4 for 33 in 4.1 overs. Payyade Sports Club after being put to bat first posted a total of 253/10 in 48.3 overs. It was a decent top order start with opener Hersh Tank and Auti putting on 82 runs together for the 2nd wicket, however the wickets fell a bit quickly post that partnership or else a 300+ total also looked possible at one stage. MPL Player Hersh opening the innings went on to score a brilliant 109 off mere 93 balls laced with 14 fours and 4 sixes. An innings where he was playing his natural game with controlled aggression. From the bowlers, off-spinner Praful Devkate who has a similar bowling action like R Ashwin was quite impressive taking 6/74 in 20.2 overs.

Defending 253, it was Musheer Khan emerging as a trump card for Payyade to trouble the opposition players. Young Musheer post his comeback has taken heaps of wickets for Mumbai in the U16 Circuit and he continues to dazzle this time taking 5/33 in 8.5 overs which also included a hat-trick where he cleaned up the lower order with his wily spin. For Dadar Union, Siddarth Akre was the only shining spot with 66 runs at no.5 while rest of the batters found it difficult to get going getting all out for 116 runs in26.5 overs.

DELOITTE batting scorecard had very little to boast off and the highest scorer for them was opener Tejas Mehta who scored a knock of 37 of 32 balls. Chasing a fairly easy target, the Devadiga team faced some bumps in the form of 3 wickets in the top order but opener Harish Devadiga was skillful enough to seal the deal with vital innings of 30 runs. The 15 extras from Deloitte were very expensive for them in defending such a short score. Devadiga chased down the target in 9.3 overs. Overall, a very comprehensive win for DEVADIGA team.

“I couldn’t have said I am not feeling great and I need to get away from the game”. You never know how that is taken. These things should be of great importance. If you think a player is important enough for Indian cricket, he should be looked after. At the international stage, every player needs that communication and the ability to speak up”- Virat Kohli
This recent statement from Kohli has got mental health in Cricket into the limelight. So as it is said Billions of people and only 11 get selected to represent the country.
It feels like a lot of pressure already. There is tremendous competition in all sports but cricket gets the most because of the passion and the reach of the game in India.
A lot of players approach a sport psychologist to get mentally tougher because even sometimes the smallest things puts a lot of pressure and anxiety in them. Leave performance pressure, the pressure of being selected is the most common stimulus that generates anxiety. That in turn generates performance pressure. It’s not easy to make it large. Not primarily due to “politics” but other demands. As a young cricketer, there a some common demands which can make a player quit the game:
1. Fear of failure due to expectations from the significant people in the young cricketer’s life. Viz., parents, coaches, peers, Significant others.
2. Failure to achieve a certain level at a certain age. “If he/she can do it at my age, why can’t i?”
3. “Need of Achievement” which leads to comparison between academics and cricket, some choose the former due to society pressure or ‘helplessness to deal with the existing pressures in cricket that prevents players from achieving a good level of performance.
4. Striving to stay injury free. One huge injury leads to a poor season and then overlooked by the selectors.
What can the player do?
1. Seek help of the coaches or trusted people in their lives
2. If need be, seek the help of a sport psychologist. They will help you compartmentalise your life and probably guide your through the tougher times
3. Even if you are burned out and want to take a break, do it professionally. Take the help of a psychologist to take the break and also make a comeback with their guidance.
4. Build a circle of trusted people and only believe in their advice/ suggestions. Don’t let others bog you down.
5. Maintain a diary to write your daily experience. Spend at least 10mins at the end of the day to jot down your feelings and thoughts.
