Mumbai: Rizvi Springfield High School Bandra’s bowler Nishit Balla came up with a remarkable bowling performance to set up a comprehensive 10-wicket win for his team against Dhirubhai Ambani International School. Balla bagged a seven-wicket haul to skittle out the opponent team for just 39 runs in 11.2 overs in the U-14 Boys match of the Mumbai Indians Junior Cricket Tournament at Azad Maidan on Saturday.

Besides picking up wickets in a heap Balla kept things tight by giving just eigsht runs in his five overs. Dhirubhai batsmen could never recover from Balla’s regular jolts.

Rizvi chased down the target in just four overs with Awais Khan striking an unbeaten 24 and his opening partner Siddhant Rai remained unbeaten on 10.

In the U-16 Boys match at Azad Maidan, Aarush Patankar’ all-round show led IES New English School, Bandra to a five-wicket win over Don Bosco High School, Matunga.

Patankar first chipped in with two wickets with the ball to help in restricting Bosco to 160 all-out in 38.1 overs. He later struck a defiant 46 in 75 balls to help his School chase down the target in 36.2 overs after losing half of the side.

Mumbai: Gautam Waghela’s brilliant knock of 66 runs powered John Bright CC to a thumping 9-wicket win against New Amrit CC in a second round match of the Kale Cup T20 Cricket Tournament, for C and D Division teams, and played at the Shivaji Park Gymkhana.

Waghela dominated the New Amrit bowlers and scored his runs from just 39 balls with seven boundaries and a solitary six as John Bright easily surpassed the target scoring 113 for just one wicket in 13 overs.

Earlier, New Amrit after deciding to bat first could only manage to reach a score of 110 for 3 wickets in 16 overs. Rohan Tambe top-scored with 44 runs. Waghela won the ‘Man of the match’ award.

In another match, Saurabh Singh’s cracking half century steered Yogi Cricket Club to a 39-run victory against Prabhu Jolly Young Cricketers.

Saurabh scored an exact 50 runs from 32 balls (6×4, 1×6), as Yogi CC made 151 runs for the loss of 8 in the truncated 16 overs innings. All-rounder Meet Desai contributed a 19-ball 26 runs. Prabhu Jolly’s Deep Rawal (2 for 23) was the most successful bowler.

Prabhu Jolly Young Cricketers were unable to chase down the target and were restricted to 112 for 8 wickets in 16 overs. Rohan Jadhav batted solidly scoring 40 runs from just 22 balls (2×4, 2×6), but received no support from the other batsmen. Meet Desai (3 for 19) was the main wicket-taker.

Saurabh Singh was later adjudged Man of the match.

In another match, Wellington CC recorded a 22-run victory against M.V. Sports Club.

Result: Yogi Cricket Club won by 39 runs.

Scoring his maiden T20 hundred is a thing of the past now, Suryakumar Yadav now lights up the tournament with a devastating hundred which was nothing but a nightmare for the DY Patil B Bowlers.

BPCL batting first lost Herwadkar early on and in came Suryakumar stitching a magnanimous partnership with opener Aakarshit Gomel turning the game in no time. Aakarshit smashed a brilliant 101 off mere 49 balls smashing 9 fours and 6 sixes while Suryakumar on the other hand was in such a freakish form that no corner of the ground looked impossible for him taking mere 63 balls to score his unbeaten 143* which had 7 fours and 14 sixes. What’s more both these players also stitched a record 214 run stand for the 2nd wicket which pushed BPCL to a massive total of 260/4 in 20 overs.

DY Patil B in reply were all out for 160 runs with opener Srujan Athawale scoring a quick 17 ball 40 for his team. From the bowlers, Shivam Malhotra with 3/27 was the pick of the lot for BPCL as they won the match by 100 runs.

From scoring a hundred in his Ranji Debut to beginning the DY Patil T20 with a 14 ball 30, Gomel has showed many sides of himself. This 49 ball 100 not stamps that Gomel is a player who can shift gears according to the formats proving to be equally effective in the white ball format too.

Mumbai: Swami Vivekanand International School (SVIS), Borivali maintained its dominance with convincing 196 runs win over Anjuman Islam English School, Vashi in the Mumbai leg of U-16 Boys of the Mumbai Indians Junior Cricket Tournament at Azad Maidan on Friday.

Swami Vivekanand batsman Ayush Vartak was the star of the day with an unbeaten hundred followed by a three-wicket haul. His stellar knock of 100* not out in just 36 balls, studded with five sixes and 12 fours helped SVIS post an imposing total of 328/4 on the board in 34 overs. It was after Malhar Mane top scored with 106 runs to provide a solid foundation for a huge score.After destructive batting, Vartak was equally effective with the ball to help SVIS restrict their opponents to 132/9 in 26.1 overs.

Meanwhile, another all-rounder, Akash Pawar of IES Navi Mumbai High School scored a smashing half-century in Vashi based school’s emphatic eight-wicket victory against VK Krishna Menon Academy, Borivali. Pawar hit unbeaten 53 in 31 balls to make chase easy after Menon Academy made 148/9 in 36 overs.

Pawar had his say with the ball also as his eight overs yielded just 25 runs and took a crucial wicket.

Mandvi Muslim Sports Club after electing to bat first could not muster up a big total at Cross Maidan getting all out for 144 runs in 38.4 overs. With most of the batsman chipping in with starts, they required someone who could score atleast a half century to stabilize their innings. Leg break bowler Aman Harchirkar with 4/28 in 9 overs was the pick of the lot for khandala CC while Arsh Krishnater with 3/24 was also quite supportive with the ball.

Khandala CC also faced the same issue with none of their players managing to convert their starts. Even though they looked strong at one stage with Arsh K and Ninad stitching 54 runs for the 3rd wicket, Mandvi Muslim bowlers came back in the last session taking some timely wickets.  Left arm spinner Karan Patil not only broke the partnership of Arsh and Ninad, he also dismissed both the set players followed by some another wickets at the middle order as he came up with a match winning spell of 5/39 in 9 overs. Karan was nicely supported by Tejas Nawale who took the last 3 wkts in a quick succession which resulted in a tie with Khandala CC also getting all out for 144 runs in 31.5 overs.

Result-Mandvi Muslim Sports Club were eventually declared winners on the basis of toss win.

Arch Mavericks after being put to bat first at Chereshwar Club, Trombay were off to a flying start with openers putting on 64 runs in the first 8 overs. Opener Pranay Ranka who is the batting mainstay of Arch Mavericks once again lended his contribution with 35 runs while his opening partner Karan Malushte top scored for the team with a  solid knock of 51 runs in 45 balls. It was a hard working innings where in Karan did lots of running between the wickets and rotating the strike to keep the scoreboard ticking. Jagdish Sure who came at no.3 also provided good support to Karan as he scored 39 runs off 30 balls while quick cameos by Vimal Hansraj (24 off 8) and Mehul Rathod (19 off 7) pushed Arch Mavericks to 177/5 in 20 overs.

Edifice Consultants in reply were packup for 139/8 in 20 overs with Mahesh Hirpara the only batsman who looked good enough to give a threat with his knock of 45 runs in 22 balls. From the bowlers, Shamal Palod with 3/30 in 4 overs was bang on while Salil and Vimal bagged 2 wkts each.

Result- Arch Mavericks won by 38 runs, Karan Malushte declared ‘man of the match’

Avengers XI after being put to bat first at Chereshwar Club, Trombay managed to post a modest total of 137/9 in 20 overs with Swastik Keni at no.4 top scoring with 35 runs. It was a tight and spirited bowling performance by the Riams XI with Farukh Momim (2/23 in 4 overs) & Huzefa (2/34 in 4 overs) being the pick of the lot.

Chasing 138, things were’nt that easy for RIAMS XI with scoreboard reading 25/2 in the 5th over but it was their middle order who played fearless cricket to ensure their team was back in the game in no time. After some quick cameos by Shahbaz (22 off 24) & Farrukh (28 off 17), it was Sarosh Mirza at no.7 who blasted with a super quick 36* smashing 3 fours and 3 sixes in mere 13 balls to finish off the game in just 14.1 overs. Sarosh went all guns blazing while also stitched a 56 run unbeaten stand with Huzefa (16* off 15) as RIAMS XI won the match by 6 wkts.

27th February, 2020 in Mumbai : Siddhesh Pandit’s solid kncok of  73 runs powered Palghar Dahanu CC to a comfortable 7-wicket victory against Matunga Gymkhana in a second round match of the Kale Cup T20 Cricket Tournament, for C and D Division teams, and played at the Matunga Gymkhana on Thursday.

Matunga Gymkhana electing to bat first were restricted to 164 all out in 19.2 overs. Deepak Bandgar scored 45 runs and Rohit Singh made 25 runs. Hridayesh Pawar 3 for 12 and Tushar More’s economical spell of 2 for 8 put the brakes on the Matunga innings.

In reply, Palghar Dahanu CC buoyed by Pandit’s cameo innings easily chased down the target scoring 165 for 3 wickets in 18.4 overs. Pandit’s scored his runs from 40 balls with fibe boundaries and smashed six hits over the fence. Mandar Chamare scored 51 runs from 38 balls (3×4, 3×6).

Pandit was the obvious choice for the Man of the match award.

After being put to bat first at the DY Patil University 1 ground, Central Railway bowlers got some good amount of thrashing as BPCL team notched up a massive total of 233/4 in 20 overs. After a solid opening start by Akhil Herwadkar (39 off 31) & Aakarshit Gomel (30 off 14), the stage was perfectly set for Suryakumar to free his hands and play his natural game. Coming at no.3, Surya dealt with the bowlers with utmost precision as he smashed some unearthly shots reaching his maiden T20 hundred in mere 49 balls. Surya got dismissed in the 2nd last ball of the innings at 117 off 54 but the damage was already inflicted on the Central Railway bowlers.

Central Railway in reply could not live up to the high run rate which was required with the every passing over as they could only reach a total of 160/7 in 20 overs. Pacemen Sylvester D Souza looked dangerous as he was the pick of the lot with a bowling spell of 3/21 in 4 overs. Also it was good to see Sylvester back in his elements while the experienced Sandeep Sharma was equally effective taking 2/30 in 4 overs as BPCL won the match by 73 runs

In the match vs GM Cricket Academy vs PAB Cricket Academy at Santosh Sports Cricket Academy Ground, GM Cricket Academy batting first posted a decent total of 138/4 in 20 overs. Amar Kadam top scored for his team scoring an impressive 56 off 56 balls laced with 5 boundaries.

Defending a total of 139, GM Cricket Academy restricted PAB CC Bhiwandi to 57 runs all out in 15.4 overs thanks to a match winning bowling spell by Om Bhabal who came up with commendable bowling figures of 5/9 in 4 overs alongwith a maiden.
