Mumbai: A flurry of wickets for bowlers grabbed attention in the Mumbai-leg of the Mumbai Indians Junior 2020 Cricket Tournament on Tuesday. Sai Parulekar of Lokpuram Public School, Thane stood out with his terrific all-round performance in the Boys U-14 category match at Cross Maidan.

Parulekar first hammered 50 runs of 46 balls to help Lokpuram put up a total of 251 all-out in 39.5 overs. Aarya Padale (72) and Yash Salian (53) also scored half-centuries. He later grabbed six wickets of opponents Chatrabhuj Narsee School, Kandivali to restrict them to 129 all-out in 22.2 overs and hand his team an emphatic win by 122 runs.

Harsh Rao of Ryan International, Kandivali took nine wickets and Vivaan Sanghani of Ryan International, Chembur took eight wickets to set up convincing wins for their respective teams in the Boys U-14 category.

Rao’s nine-wicket haul helped the Kandivali-based school to bowl out their opponents Ryan International, Malad for 51/10 in 12.3 overs and cruise to a 49-run win despite defending a low score at Cross Maidan.

Sanghani’s eight-wicket haul helped the Chembur side to register a 138-run win. St. Aloysius High School, Bandra were restricted to 80 all-out in 15.2 overs after half-centuries by Arnav Kulkarni (76) and Rishi Iyer (58) guided Ryan International to a challenging total of 218/10 in 36 overs at Oval Maidan.

Meanwhile, in the Boys U-16 match at Azad Maidan, Mayank Rana of VPM Vidyamandir, Dahisar picked up a five-wicket haul against Balmohan Vidyamandir, Dadar to star in an eight-wicket win for his team.

Rana’s bowling performance helped Vidyamandir to limit Balmohan Vidyamandir, Dadar to 70/10 in 22.4 overs which they chased in 22.4 overs after losing just two wickets.

Nagpur: Bhavan’s BP Vidyamandir, Ashti cruised to a comfortable 10-wicket win after bowling out Jain Heritage School for 37 runs in the Boys’ U-16 match in the Mumbai Indians Junior Cricket Tournament 2020 at the MS Dhoni Ground in Nagpur on Tuesday.

Bhavan’s bowler Rishab Oberai picked up four wickets to break the backbone of a shaky Jain Heritage batting line-up. They eventually put up a meagre total which Bhavan’s openers Chetan Meena (17 not out), Shikhar Randhir (16 not out) knocked off in two overs.

In the U-16 Girls match at Nelco Ground in Nagpur, Aditi Bante’s all-round show guided St. Joseph’s Convent School to a convincing ten-wicket win over MKH Sancheti Public School. Aditi took four wickets as Sancheti made just 46 all-out in 11.5 overs. She then hammered an unbeaten 20 in 10 balls to help her school register a big win in 3.4 overs.

Islam Gymkhana batting first at Cricket Club of India Ground were bundled out for a low total of 155 runs in 51.2 overs. Even though many players got starts but none of the player could not convert those starts or score more than 30 runs individually. Fast bowler Kailash Kokekar with 4/44 and left arm spinner Yogesh Sawant with 4/41 were the pick of the bowlers from Mumbai Police.

Mumbai Police Gymkhana in reply were all out for 110 runs in 35.5 overs thanks to their promising off-spinner Salman Khan spinning a web with envious bowling figures of 4/12 in 7.5 overs. Islam Gymkhana who also have a good bench strength of left arm pacers displayed some tight bowling as Irfan Mallick (3/55) and Danish Rainey (1/20) kept it tight to trouble the batsman.

Result-Islam Gymkhana won by 45 runs

JOLLY FRIEND SPORTS MATUNGA 3 PREMIER LEAGUE 2019-20, 16th February, 2020 in Mumbai : Alphaspec MSK (ALPMSK) VS Svasti Microfinance (SVAM), the match was played at DadarparsiZorastrian cricket ground Matunga on 16th February 2020. ALPMSK won the toss and elected to BAT first.

After being 3 down for 33 runs, Paresh and AkhlaquddinShaikh stitched up a charismatic partnership of 139 runs in the middle. Paresh spearheaded the attack while Shaikh played the role of the second fiddle. They punished the deserving balls and at the same time also rotated the strike comprehensively. Paresh scored a brilliant 87 runs off 52 balls and Shaikh scored an impressive 41 off 34 balls. They put up a target of 188 runs in 20 overs losing 6 wickets. SVAM also were generous enough to give 28 extras. For SVAM, TusharMandke picked up 2 for 43 runs. For SVAM, Tushar picked up 2 wickets.

SVAM’s opener Prasad Kadam scored a dominating knock of 78 runs off 62 balls. He was the lone fighter in the chase but he lacked the support of an established batsman at the other end. There were few small scores here and there but none very effective. SVAM needed 22 runs in the last over and in the very last ball of the 19th over, Prashad got out. His valiant efforts went in vain. They lost by a slight margin but it was a hard earned win for ALPMSK.  ALPMSK’s MayakGautam picked up 3 wickets for 22 runs and Devesh also picked up 2 wickets. Other bowlers also hit the wicket hard and got dividend.

RESULT- ALPMSK won the match by 15 runs.

Achievers Sports Club opting to bat first at Shivaji Park Dadar posted a massive hefty total of 305/6 in 44 overs. Opening the innings, right handed Pratik Mayekar scored a fluent 120 off 102 deliveries laced with 17 boundaries. Pratik kept the scoreboard ticking while he got decent support from the middle order with all the players chipping in with 30’s and batting around him to ensure Achievers SC reach a commanding total.

GSB Sports Club in reply could only reach 155/9 in 45 overs with Achievers bowlers keeping it tight. Spinner Rajesh Bhujbal with 3/32 was the pick of the bowlers while Prabhakar and Yashwant bagged 2 wkts a piece.

Result-Achievers Sports Club won the match by 150 runs

Air India after being put to bat first at DY Patil University 1 Ground posted a very decent total of 176/9 in 20 overs which is most of the times defendable. Openers Rudra Dhanday and Naman Ojha proved a good combination with a right blend of youth and experience as both the players stitched a 132 run opening stand in mere 86 balls. Rudra scored 60 off 41 while Naman Ojha scored 68 off 47 balls to set up the stage for Air India. Despite such a brilliant opening start, Air India team could not capitalize as they lost 8 wkts in the last 30-35 balls with just 44 runs added post the wickets of their openers.

Canara Bank in reply could only manage a total of 141/9 in 20 overs with most of the players finding it difficult to convert their starts.

Result- Air India won by 35 runs

Arch Mavericks opting to bat first at Vengsarkar Academy, Mahul were off to a dismal start with their opener Abhishek back into the hut in the very 2nd ball of the match. It required someone to carry on and stitch a partnership and Jagdish Sure coming at no.3 played the perfect foil to opener Pranay Ranka as both the players stitched a record 166 run stand for the 2nd wicket. Opener Pranay scored a gritty 54 off 43 balls while Jagdish Sure top scored for his team smashing 69 runs off 53 balls (9 fours, 1 six). Mehul’s quick 16 ball 34 at no.4 further lended the finishing touch to the innings as Arch Mavericks reached a healthy total of 185/3 in 20 overs.

AESA Pune XI in reply were all out for 146 runs with Nikhil Jain, Vimal Hansraj and Shamal Palod bagging 2 wkts each while Vimal with 2/14 in 4 overs being the pick of the lot.

JOLLY FRIEND SPORTS MATUNGA 2 PREMIER LEAGUE 2019-20: The match between Media Com (MCOM) and Blasters (JFS BLASTERS) was played at Dadar Union Cricket Ground on 15th February 2020. Mediacom won the toss and elected to FIELD first.

Blasters’ openers Akshay Tungare and Abhay Sharma put up a solid century partnership in just 8.4 overs. Abhay Sharma played a scintillating innings of 65 runs off 29 balls before getting out retired hurt. Tungare also scored an excellent innings of 48 runs off 29 balls. In the middle order also ArunMadhuscored a brilliant half-century off 28 balls. At the bottom also, Sunny singh and SanketYadav put some final punches at the back end of the innings. With a very cumulative effort, they reached a mammoth total of 243 runs off 20 overs losing 3 wickets.

MCOM succumbed to the pressure of the leader board and hardly any batsman scored big. The highest scorer was Shamim who scored 26 runs off 18 balls. The BLASTERS’ bowlers swept through the opposition’s innings and closed the innings within 15.2 overs at a score of 104 runs. Rohan, Akshay and Jeetu picked up couple of wickets each. It was a facile victory for Blasters, the high score also gave them a opportunity to experiment with various bowlers.

RESULT- Blasters WON the match by 139 runs.

Played at Matunga Gymkhana, Dadkar Maidan, Matunga Gymkhana opting to bat first posted a massive total of 236/7 in 20 overs. Opening the innings, Ajinkya Patil scored a swashbuckling 82 off 56 balls while quick 30’s by Amit Patil (34 off 24) & Deepak Bandgar (32* off 9) ensured Matunga Gymkhana reached a massive total.

Chasing 237, the odds were definitely in favor of Matunga Gymkhana but youngster Sahil Jadhav almost pulled off a blinder as he went on to score the fastest ton of Kale Cup scoring 119 in mere 53 balls which had 13 fours alongwith 8 maximums. The 184 run stand for the 2nd wicket with Japnaamsingh (60 off 47) further raised hopes for Superstar Sports Club as they were quite in the game till the 15th over.

 However, post their wickets, the players failed to play the finishing job with Superstar SC managing to reach 223/5 in 20 overs.

After a match winning 84 vs Bombay Union CC in his previous game for Friends CC at the Shivaji Park Ground which helped his team win by 31 runs, Manan Bhatt continues to up the game this time with a yet another stellar knock vs Young National CC at Cross Maidan.

Friends CC batting first were in all sorts of trouble with scoreboard reading 2/17 and both the openers back in the hut. However, Awais Khan at no.3 with 42 runs and Manan Bhatt coming at no.4 stitched a 74 run stand to bring back the positive momentum. Manan again converted his good start into an impressive knock of 93* in 93 balls (7 fours, 3 sixes) as Friends CC were back in a strong position declaring the innings at 200/5 in 45 overs. Medium pacer Mandar Mayekar with 4/41 was the pick of the bowlers from National CC.

Chasing 201, Young National CC openers provided a right start piling on 151 runs together. Openers Sarang Jadhav with a solid 82 ball 69 played the perfect foil while Devesh Pushpak counter attacked the bowlers as he went on to score an unbeaten 103* off mere 96 balls laced with 13 fours and 4 sixes. It was on the back of his ton and a brilliant opening partnership, Young National CC chased down the total in 33 overs winning the match by 8 wkts.
