After piling on lots of runs at various age groups for Mumbai, Bhupen finally made his debut for Mumbai Ranji team this year. With this season of Ranji Trophy being over, Bhupen participated in the Inter Collegiate tournament where he played a few games to help his team RA Podar College win some crucial ties.

In the Quarter-finals of the tournament vs VES ASC College, R.A Poddar College notched up 352/10 in 42.2 overs thanks to an aggressive knock of 175 runs off mere 113 balls by Bhupen Lalwani. Bhupen Lalwani opening the innings counter attacked the bowlers hitting 15 fours and 8 sixes while also stitched a 196 run stand for the 2nd wicket with Sanket Kashte who scored 101 runs at no.3

It was on the back of some brilliant tons by Bhupen and Sanket, R.A Podar College defeated VES College by a massive margin of 313 runs. Bhupen who is known for his solid technique and his ability to stay for long duration at the crease also showed his other side shifting the gears and playing at a strike rate of 170.00+

Indian Dynamite Cricket Club opting to bat first at Azad Maidan were bowled out for 69 runs in 29.4 overs thanks to a hostile bowling performance by Rizvi CC bowlers led by their spinner Seemab Khan. Such was the attacking bowling of Rizvi CC that only two players managed to score in double digits. Leg break bowler Seemab Khan came up with one of the best bowling figures of the season conceding mere 8 runs while bagging 6 wkts in his spell of 8.4 overs which had 4 maidens too.

Rizvi CC only required 15.2 overs to chase down the score and win the match by 8 wkts.

By the way, for the unitiated, Seemab Khan is the son of legendary Bollywood Actor Amjad Khan who portrayed the role of Gabbar Singh in Sholay. Seemab has been an active club cricketer in Mumbai and this is not the 1st time he has come up with a fifer in Mumbai Cricket. Seemab has also played Kanga League where he had taken a fifer in 2019 too.

Ishaan scores blazing ton in knockout win over Ryan International

Mumbai: Swami Vivekanand International, Borivali carried on their inter-school dominance with a comprehensive 337-run win over Ryan International School, Chembur. Ishaan Roy struck a brilliant hundred to help his school to storm into the quarters of the boys’ Under 14 category match of the Mumbai Indians Junior Cricket Tournament at the Azad Maidan on Wednesday.

Ishaan Roy scored an unbeaten 114 off 79 to help Swami Vivekanand post a big total of 414/3. Ishaan was given good company by Pranav Kapadia who contributed with 65. Ryan International batsmen couldn’t shoulder the responsibility of the big chase and could manage just a total of 77 runs.

In a low scoring match at Azad Maidan, KC Gandhi English School upstaged Shardashram English School, Dadar by 15 runs. Chasing a low target, Shardashram batsmen failed to apply themselves and succumbed under pressure to get bowled out for 125 runs.

Manav Ghugardhar of KC Gandhi was the destructor in chief. He bagged a five-wicket haul in his six overs at the expense of just 12 runs to restrict the much-fancied Shardashram batting.

Earlier, KC Gandhi scored a total of 140/9 in 40 overs with Meet Jain (30) and Hritik Pandey (28) putting up a fight in difficult conditions.

No.3 Rajat Rokade scored 23 off 28 balls and was dismissed when he along with no.4 Milind kadam were looking to forge a promising partnership at the team score of 55 runs. Milind then, had partnerships with Lokesh and Susheed in the middle. He single handled tried to build a decent total and ended up scoring a gritty 68 runs of 42 balls. The team total score added up to 143 runs in 20 overs and they lost 8 wickets in the process. Six bowlers from SST picked one wickets each and the impressive bowler was Ayush Dhoble who grasped a figure of 1 for 10 runs in 4 overs.

In response, SST lost wicket in the very first over in the form of Shailesh nakashe but Opener Rohit shirgaonkar and no.3 Amogh Bodas batted stupendously well and built up a match winnng partnership of 141 runs. Amogh bordas played the role of the second fiddle while rotating the strike brilliantly and also hammering the stray deliveries, he scored 41* off 35 balls. Rohit shirgaonkar played a classy but aggressive innings of 92 runs off just 61 balls. He hit 15 fours and only 1 six. They chased down the target in 16 overs with 9 wickets left.

RESULT- SST won the match by 9 wickets.

Reliance 1 opting to bat first at Reliance Ground, Ghansoli posted a mammoth total of 252/5 in 20 overs thanks to a massive 180 run stand for the 2nd wicket between Amolpreet Singh and Hardik Pandya. Opener Amolpreet scored an impressive 88 off 51 balls while Hardik Pandya once again went all guns blazing smashing a superb 105 off 39 balls laced with 8 boundaries and 10 massive sixes signaling his arrival in grand fashion. Pandya hardly celebrated after reaching his hundred showing the zone which he is in where the only thing matters to him is his performance and his team’s win.

CAG in reply were all out for 151 runs and it was once again Pandya with the ball turning the game with a spell of 5/26 in 4 overs. Pandya now has back to back fifers in this tournament as he looks in an excellent shape with the ball too helping Reliance 1 win by 101 runs.

After an aggressive 35 and a fifer in his previous outing, he had already stamped his presence back into the cricket scene and if that was not enough he now joins the elite list of players who have scored a hundred as well as a fifer in the same match of a T20 Tournament. Infact, Hardik Pandya is amongst the very few in India to achieve this tremendous feat.

Mumbai: Kunal Thorat brilliant bowling performance 5 for 11 runs was the highlight of Fort Vijay Cricket Club’s eight-wicket win against Victory  Cricket Club in a quarter-final match of the Kale Cup T20 Cricket Tournament for ‘C & D’ Division teams played at the Shivaji Park Gymkhana ground.

Fort Vijay electing to field first dismissed Victory CC for a paltry 90 runs in 15.5 overs. Jay Bista scored 32 runs from 21 balls. Besides Thorat fine efforts Gaurav Kumar picked up 2 for 18.

In reply, Fort Vijay comfortably scored 91 for the loss of 2 wickets in 11.4 overs. Monu Chauhan scored a 27 balls 36 runs with eight fours to steer his team to victory.

Kunal Thorat was the obvious choice for the Man of the match’ award.

In the second match, Shivaji Park Gymkhana defeated Parsee Gymkhana by 24 runs. Sent in to bat first, Shivaji Park Gymkhana scored 146 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs and then restricted Parsee Gymkhana 122 for 7 wickets in 20 overs to snatch the win.

Taki Team Sports Club after being put to bat first at Worli Sports Club were least affected on losing the toss as they piled on a massive score of 405/7 in 45 overs. Right handed opener Sahil Shetty went on to score a brilliant innings of 127 runs off 112 balls smashing 18 boundaries in it. Sahil kept the scoreboard ticking while also received good support from his opening partner Rahul Jangili who scored 73 runs off mere 47 balls as both the players put on 147 runs in 16.4 overs for the 1st wicket. Apart from them, Vishal Khanvilkar at no.5 scored a valuable 55 off 31 balls while Bhagyesh Narkhede at no.8 scored 39* off mere 15 balls ( 3 fours, 3 sixes ) to push the team towards a respective total.

Pathare Prabhu Cricketers in reply were all out for 176 runs with left arm spinner Vineet Dedhia being the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/36 in 8 overs.

Tenzing Niyogi is certainly enjoying a purple patch this season, after piling on some good runs and match winning half centuries in the South Mumbai Premier league, Tenzing now showcases his talent in the ongoing Gannon Dunkerly Cricket Tournament representing Kensington Cricket Club.

Malabar Hill Club opting to bat first at PJ Hindu Gymkhana posted a total of 156/8 in 20 overs thanks to a quick cameo by Ronak Seth scoring 34* off 17 balls down the order while Sandeep Chatwani top scored with 39 runs off 35 balls. From the bowlers, Zohaib with 2/18 in 3 overs was the pick of the lot while Roshan Shetty and Rohit Seshadri also chipped in with 2 wkts each.

Kensington CC after losing opener Kunal early got back into the game in no time with Rohit Seshadri (30) and Tenzing putting on 48 runs within the 1st six overs. Tenzing who came at no.3 played a brilliant knock of 75 runs in 48 balls laced with 10 fours and 2 sixes ensuring his team sailed through with ease. Mumbai: IES New English School, Bandra stormed into the finals of the Boys’ U-16 category of the Mumbai Indians Junior Cricket Tournament with a convincing win in the semi-final. Manan Bhatt’s phenomenal all-round performance helped IES New English defeat IES Navi Mumbai High School, Vashi by 60 runs at Azad Maidan on Tuesday.

Bhatt first scored a composed 65 runs off 59 balls to enable his team to post a tricky total of 154 before getting all-out in 34.1 overs. Arjun Bagaitkar also contributed with a steady 22 to help Bhatt’s cause from the other end.

The target wasn’t a difficult one for their counterparts from Navi Mumbai but Bhatt made it beyond their reach by bagging a four-wicket haul with the ball. The batsmen from Vashi wilted under pressure in a big match chase. They were eventually all-out for paltry 94 runs in 29.3 overs.

Meanwhile, Samiksha Bangal of Shardashram Vidyamandir scored an unbeaten century to lead her school to a 157-run win over St. Francis Xavier’s School and qualify for the semi-finals of the Girls’ U-16 category.

Samiksha smashed 119 not out in 104 balls to guide Shardashram to an imposing score of 193/2 in 25 overs. Disha Chandak chipped in with 41 runs. Samiksha then took a wicket also as her team-mates ran through St. Francis Xavier’s batting line-up to bowl them out for just 36 in 16.5 overs.

For IES Navi Mumbai High School, it was Anuja Sawant’s five-wicket haul which helped them thrash Lokpuram Public School and step into the semi-final round. Anuja’s bowling exploits helped IES Navi Mumbai bowl out Lokpuram for 65 in 20.2 overs. Pratiksha Powar then steered IES Navi Mumbai home with an unbeaten 36 runs.

Swami Vivekanand International School, Borivali also entered semis with an easy eight-wicket win over Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania School, Thane. Kshama Patekar emerged Player of the Match for scoring 67 in 53 balls and taking two wickets.

St. Columba School, Gamdevi completed the U-16 Girls semi-final line-up with a nine-wicket win over Vasant Vihar High School.
