Parkophene Cricketers opting to bat first on Islam Gymkhana’s homeground dominated with the bat amassing 414 runs for the loss of 8 wkts in 69 overs. Prasad was solid as usual anchoring Parkophene innings en-route his brilliant 138 off 111 balls (20 fours) while left-handed Sagar played his natural game of aggressive cricket smashing 116 off 111 balls. T20 matches are always exciting and it gets all the more interesting to watch if there is an exciting battle between the opening bowlers and the opening pair of batters. In the recently concluded match of Gannon Dunkerly Cricket Tournament (GDCL), a similar instance happened which pumped up the opposition team’s opener who went berserk smashing sixes in almost every corner of the ground.
The opener in contention is none other than Kamran Ahmed who had a “friendly banter” with the opening bowler Sohrab Khushrusahi. Sohrab who is one competitive and animated character of Bombay Gymkhana tried to get into the nerves of Kamran which eventually provoked the opener to go all guns blazing.
Osians Cricket Club opting to bat first at Bombay Gymkhana posted a massive total of 268/4 in 20 overs thanks to a brilliant 171 run opening stand between Vishal Shah and Kamran Ahmed. Vishal scored an impressive 75 off 45 balls while Kamran Ahmed went on to score 109 in mere 42 balls smashing 7 fours and 10 sixes at a strike rate of close to 260.00. Bombay Gymkhana in reply were all out for 101 runs with all-rounder Vishal Shah coming up with a match winning spell of 5/11 in 2.4 overs.

Osians CC dominated in both the departments quite well and looked the better team throughout the course of the match as they won the game by a massive margin of 167 runs. Also the very fact that the opposition team players Sohrab& Kamran gave positive insights about the match while Sohrab also appreciating Kamran’s innings showed the sportsmanship from both the sides as all’s well that ends well as the game was indeed played in a good spirit.

Sohrab Khushrushahi from Bombay Gymkhana shared with Cricketgraph ”They just played really well. Kamran batted brilliantly. Some of the cleanest hitting I’ve seen in a while. And they won the match in the first 10 overs itself. As simple as that. We also dropped over 10 catches and didn’t deserve to win” When further asked on what exactly happened between him and Kamran, Sohrab quipped-“We’re two competitive boys and no one likes to be on the wrong side of the stick. What happened was just two friends discussing dinner plans and nothing more. Left on the field of play. We’ve played as team mates and opponents in the past and it’s all forgotten.”

When Cricketgraph asked Osian’s Opener Kamran about the same, he also had almost the same thing to share” Me and Sohrab have played together as teammates earlier and it’s always exciting to have competetive lads in the game, he told me something to which i replied, then again he said something and I reverted back and that just set the stage. We are good friends off the field & I respect him as a player, sometimes a bowler gets the better of the batsman and sometimes the batsman gets the better of the bowler and on this particular day, i happened to be timing the ball well as I went on to score a good century for my team”

Wellington CC after being put to bat first at Shivaji Park, Dadar posted 209/8 in 43 overs with skipper Sagar Shah at the middle order top scoring with 54 runs off 78 balls. The rest of the players chipped in with cameos but none of them were able to convert their starts into something substantial. From Vijaychandra CC, off-spinner Bharat Major with 3/29 in 9 overs was the pick of the lot.

Vijaychandra CC fancied their chances of winning the quarters with the top order chipping in well. Vikas Jaiswal (66 runs) and Vaishnav Sail (57 runs) even stitched a 118 run stand for the 3rd wicket which had made them favorites for an easy chase. However, left arm spinner Shantanu Kadam came at the right time dismissing both the set batsman to break the partnership which was threatening at one stage. Shantanu Kadam came up with an important spell of 4/51 while the rest of the bowlers also bowled tightly resulting in Vijaychandra CC falling short of just 1 run in the penultimate over.
