USA open T20 tournament which recently got the most coveted ICC affiliation, finished on a high note with Atlanta Paramveers winning against 22 Yards Sultan.
22 Yards Sultan won the toss and elected to bowl first, which seemed like a good decision. However, the experience duo, Johnson Charles (70 off 50 balls) & Chirs Gayle (49 off 36 balls), steadied the ship and stitched a partnership of 100 plus and ended the scorecard with an imposing total of 182/6. Some crucial runs were also scored by Wayne Parnell & Garth Garvey in the final 3 overs, which ultimately made the difference between winning & losing.
22 Yards fought back well in the final pressure match, but they fell short by 10 runs. To check the detailed scorecard, click here > https://cricketerbook.com/matches/scorecard/5af54d4b9d7d5380a4a31952
Monty Desai, while speaking to Amol Sonavane from CricketGraph mentioned, “It has been an exciting journey for the entire team from the day we landed here. Due to Covid guidelines the team did not get much time to practice & bond. However, we made the most of what we had, and I am thrilled with this win”.
Monty Desai, who resides in Mumbai and the current batting coach of West Indies national team further added, “Four players from our playing eleven, all 4 key bowlers including skipper Rayad Emrit, had to fly back to their hometown T&T, for selections OF Super 50, just before the semi-finals. It was great to see the universal boss, Chris Gayle, step up to bowl and pick up a wicket in the final match. Our top management including the team owner, Jayesh Patel, supported every decision during these times and ensured the safety & wellbeing of every player and staff member. Due to his relentless work in the backend, everything went of smooth, which helped players focus on the competition.
Monty Desai had to travel straight 60+ hours to join Atlanta Paramveers before the 3rd league game. Paramveers seemed to be in bad shape coz their performance in the 2nd league match was a disappointing one. Coach Monty, who is known for his FAB philosophy, implemented it with immediate effect and the results showed out.
F – Freedom to players to express themselves fearlessly both on & off the field.
A – Approach towards match situations with sincere role plays
B – Behavioral Consistency, by trying to remain calm & humble, despite the match outcome.
USA cricket has got a shot in the arm, with various rounds of investment & investors coming onboard to grow & promote cricket in the USA.

Even though the Mumbai Team is all loaded with stalwarts like Surya, Sarfaraz, Shivam, Tare at the top of the order, the youngsters from the pool of Mumbai probables are also making a strong case to make it into the Mushtaq Ali squad.
In the practice match which was conducted on 22nd dec at Wankhede, it was Surya all over the place with a knock of 127 runs in 47 balls taking Team B to 213/5 in 19 overs. Team D even though lost the match by just 10 runs but really gave a strong fight vs a quality team which consisted bowlers like Tushar Deshpande, Khizar Dafedar, Vinayak Bhoir and Atif Attarwala. Opening the innings, Bhupen Lalwani scored a very confident looking 54 off 38 balls proving his grit that he is much more than a red ball opener. Bhupen even after scoring tons of runs for Mumbai at all age groups missed out even in the list of 150 players for T20 Mumbai & innings like this will not only give him but even the selectors some confidence.

Bhupen scored an aggressive 54 off 38 balls (3 fours ,3 sixes) while also stitched a 96 run stand with Sachin Yadav who made 47 runs at no.3. Sachin Yadav is another name who has been scoring runs whenever the opportunities have came by and he is also one player to watchout for. From the bowlers, it was again Tushar Deshpande, their strike bowler coming up with 2/29 in 4 overs while all-rounder Khizar impressing with a 3 wkt haul taking prized wickets of Aashay, Sachin and Bhupen.

Bhupen speaking with Cricketgraph shared “ I am really working hard to get selected in the shorter formats for Mumbai, I have scored runs at all age groups for Mumbai and I am thankful to selectors that i even got selected for Ranji Trophy last season. However, one thing which has eluded me is seeing myself in the white ball cricket for Mumbai. The ball was moving today and it was my 1st t20 match this year. I went on mark on the very 1st ball flicking the express tushar deshpande for a boundary and that gave me confidence to build my innings. Tushar was bowling really fast and it was really satisfying to score runs vs a quality bowling attack”
_____________________________________________

In the practice match between Team A VS Team A, Raunaq Sharma and Aditya Tare smashed composed half centuries at the top of the order. Tare opening the innings scored 51. Raunaq Sharma who is known for his clean hitting abilities scored an attacking 54 off 42 balls which had as many as 5 sixes. Raunaq has already showed in T20 Mumbai what he can do with the bat and an innings like this just adds icing on the cake. Raunaq and Aditya tare stitched 90 runs for the 2nd wicket taking their team to a decent total of 158/6 in 20 overs.

Chasing 159, it was again youngsters making a solid impact. Aakarshit Gomel who scored a century on Ranji Debut once again proved his white ball abilities with a fluent 65 off 43 balls (6 fours, 4 sixes). A knock which was not only a matured one but also which included some proper cricketing shots. India U19 Divyansh Saxena who opened from the other end also looked quite solid with a 34 ball 40 as both the young openers stitched a 98 run stand in 11.3 overs helping their team win by 8 wkts.
________________________________________________

In the practice match which was played at BKC Ground on 21st December, it was young all-rounder Sagar Mishra proving his point with all round contribution of 50* off 47 balls and 1/9 in 2 overs. Even though his team A lost the match courtesy a blazing 59 from Suryakumar, Sagar did left behind an impact with his all-round performance scoring a solid fifty at the middle order and stitching a crucial partnership with Sarfaraz Khan.

With cricketing season officially taking a mark, it’s time for Mumbai cricketers to prepare themselves for an intense season coming ahead. Before Syed Mushtaq Ali begins from January, Mumbai Cricket Association has arranged practice matches for the Mumbai pool of cricketers which will not only be an ideal platform for them to practice but also a good opportunity for selectors to observe the pool of junior as well as senior players.
The teams have been divided into 4 groups namely Team A, Team B, Team C & Team D. In the opening match which was played between Team C and Team D, it was Yashashvi who impressed one and all with fabulous striking. Chasing 184 against a spirited Team C, Yashashvi opening the innings scored a match winning 103* off 49 balls (8 fours, 8 sixes) cruising his team towards a comfortable win.

To succeed in Mumbai Cricket, you need to be at the top of your game and to be at the top of your game you need to undergo lots of hardwork on your skillset. In a city especially like Mumbai where competition is intense, the cricketers need a good setup for practice. Nandu Jadhav speaking with Cricketgraph shared “ Virar is one place where there are not enough cricket grounds, academies or facilities, we are trying to provide all the cricket facilities under one roof and now with this beautiful ground coupled with indoor nets, it will further boost and motivate the local cricketers to come & practice”

Divyaansh Saxena who was the highest scorer in India U19 World Cup’19 and also a prolific Mumbai U19 player was the chief guest invited to inauagrate the new ground at Uttan, Mira-Bhayandar. His presence also helped in motivating the young players of the academy. Such facilities in Mira-Bhayandar region will certainly boost the cricket culture, will myself come here in future for practice sessions soon”
