Uttar Pradesh opting to bat first at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi posted a more than decent total on board scoring 312/4 in 50 overs. UP openers gave a brilliant start putting on 122 runs together while Madhav Kaushik coming up with a surreal knock of 158* off 156 balls. The opener batted entire 50 overs smashing 15 fours and 4 sixes en-route his superb hundred. From the Mumbai bowlers, Tanush Kotian with 2/54 in 10 overs was the most impressive of the lot.

Chasing 313, both the young openers Prithvi & Yashasvi put on 89 runs in mere 9 overs which set the tone for a perfect chase. Coming at no.3, wicket-keeper batsman, Aditya Tare led from the front anchoring the chase with a match winning knock of 118* off 107 balls (18 fours). Prithvi Shaw scored a quickfire 73 off 39 balls (10 fours, 4 sixes) while Shams Mulani (36) and Shivam Dube (42) batted around Tare as Mumbai took mere 41.3 overs to cross the victory line winning the match by 6 wickets.

It has been a great comeback of sorts for Mumbai in the current domestic season. After a forgettable outing in Mushtaq Ali, the pressure was certainly riding high on many verticals for the Mumbai team. What was more intriguing was board’s brave decision to appoint Prithvi Shaw as the captain. Prithvi who was already going through a tumultuous stage with his batting was further added the huge responsibility of leading the Mumbai team which had seniors like Aditya Tare, Dhawal Kulkarni, Suryakumar Yadav amongst others.

The board certainly made a strong decision and made their intentions clear to mould a new leader for the future and this decision certainly paid off as Mumbai triumphed in the Vijay Hazare defeating some of the best teams in the business to become the champions. Alongwith that Prithvi Shaw also became the 1st cricketer in the history of domestic cricket to cross 800 runs with the bat in a single edition of Vijay Hazare trophy putting up a strong statement for India comeback.
