Mumbai, October 17: Defending champions Parsee Gymkhana and Mumbai Police Gymkhana comfortably won their respective quarter-final matches of the MCA organsied Padmakar Talim Shield (T20) Cricket Tournament 2020-2021.

Parsee Gymkhana continued with their impressive winning form and inflicted a 30-run defeat on challengers Dr. D.Y. Patil Sports Academy at the Wankhede Stadium, Churchgate on Sunday.

In the second quarter-finals, Mumbai Police Gymkhana charged to a solid 8-wicket victory against strong contenders Parkophene Cricketers at the Cricket Club of India ground.

Put in to bat first, Parsee Gymkhana bolstered by Sachin Yadav’s unbeaten half century knock of 52 runs amassed a challenging total of 187 runs for the loss of 4 wickets from 20 overs. Akarshit Gomel (44 runs) and Aditya Tare (33 runs) played good supporting roles. In reply, D.Y. Patil could only score 157 runs for 9 wickets in their 20 overs. Hardik Tamore with 46 runs top-scored for D.Y. Patil, while Parag Khanapurkar picked up 3 for 35 to secure Parsee Gym’s win.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Police dominated the match and with some disciplined bowling and restricted Parkophene Cricketers to a low score of 107 for 6 wickets from their quota of 20 overs. Japjeet scored 42 runs while Mumbai Police’s Sachin Shinde grabbed 2 for 30 runs. The Policemen easily chased the winning target making 109 for the loss of just 2 wickets in 15.3 overs. Kastubh Pawar slammed an unbeaten 57 runs to steer the Mumbai Police to victory and semi-final meeting with Parsee Gymkhana.

Brief scores (quarter-finals): Parsee Gymkhana 187/4 in 20 overs (Sachin Yadav 52*, Akarshit Gomel 44, Aditya Tare 33) beat Dr. D.Y. Patil Sports Academy 157/9 in 20 overs (Hardik Tamore 46, Parag Khanapurkar 3/35). Result: Parsee Gymkhana won by 30 runs.

Parkophene Cricketers 107/6 in 20 overs (Japjeet Randhawa 42; Sachin Shinde 2/30) lost to Mumbai Police Gymkhana 109/2 in 15.3 overs (Kaustub Pawar 57*). Result: Mumbai Police Gymkhana won by 8 wkts.

 

Well to score a hundred in a T20 match is always a special feeling but to score the first ton of the season and the first ton of the tournament is all the more special. MIG’s Varun Lavande who has also played for Mumbai and India UP teams scored a blistering hundred to steer his team to a commanding win.

MIG opting to bat first on their homeground notched up 239/5 in 20 overs and opener Varun Lavande scored 102 off those in just 59 deliveries smashing 12 fours and 4 sixes. Varun who also led the side as the captain kept the scoreboard ticking while Athava Ankolekar quickfire 45* off 21 balls at no.6 further gave the boost to MIG’s team total. United Cricketers were all out for 148 runs with Irfan Malik bowling a brilliant spell of 4/6 in 2.4 overs. Spinner Ankush Jaiswal with 4/26 was the second best of the lot.

Result: MIG won by 89 runs

Uttarakhand A batting first at Made Easy School, Bandhwari, Gurgaon scored a total of 133/5 in 20 overs. Opener Jay Bista who is known for his flamboyant batting top scored with a 36 ball 55 which included 5 sixes while the rest of the batters found it difficult to get going. From the bowlers, Ajay Guliya with 1/15 in 4 overs was the pick of the lot.

Chasing 134 vs a team comprising of Ranji Players, the pressure was certainly on Rann Star CC. However, their openers Keshav Dalal and Adiya Sharma (wk) stitched 87 runs in the first 10 overs which brought a positive momentum in the chase. Aditya scored 51* unbeaten runs off 49 balls while Keshav Dalal top scored with a brilliant 53 off 33 balls (5 fours, 3 sixes) at a strike rate of 160.61 continuing his excellent form with the bat.

Result: Rann Star CC won the match by 8 wickets and 2 overs to spare

Mumbai, October 15: Parsee Gymkhana, Mumbai Police, Payyade and Karnatak Sporting Association won their respective third round group matches and qualified for the quarter-finals of the MCA organsied Padmakar Talim Shield (T20) Cricket Tournament 2020-2021.

Parsee Gymkhana defeated Shivaji Park Gymkhana by 31 runs in a Group-A match at the Parsee Gym ground on Friday. In a Group-B encounter Mumbai Police snatched a close 10-run win against Cricket Club of India at the latter’s ground.

In a concluding Group-F clash Payyade Sports Club romped to a fluent 86-run victory against Young Maharashtra Cricket Club at the Wankhede Stadium and Karnatak SA defeated Bhatnagar S & C Foundation by a comfortable 66 runs margin.

Brief scores: Parsee Gymkhana 185/7 in 20 overs (Shams Mulani 51*, Sachin Yadav 38, Aditya Tare 35) beat Shivaji Park Gymkhana 154/6 in 20 overs (Jayesh Pokahre 79, Vidyadhar Kamath 30*). Result: Parsee Gymkhana won by 31 runs

Mumbai Police Gymkhana 146/7 in 20 overs (Kaustub Pawar 56, Prathamesh Dake 3/32, Alpesh Ramjani 2/7) beat Cricket Club of India 136/9 in 20 overs (Rudra Dhandey 32; Nadeem Shaikh 2/23, Yogesh Jagtap 2/27). Result: Mumbai Police Gymkhana won by 10 runs.

Payyade Sports Club 193/4 in 20 overs (Siddhesh Lad 92*, Akhil Herwadkar 40) beat Young Maharashtra Cricket Club 107/9 in 20 overs (Monil Soni 40, Rohan Raje 3/15). Result: Payyade Sports Club won by 86 runs.

 

Karnatak Sporting Association 200/7 in 20 overs (Shivam Dube 69, Ramanpreet Singh 51) beat Bhatnagar S & C Foundation 134/10 in 19.5 overs (Akshat Jain 55, Shivam Dube 3/21). Result: Karnatak Sporting Association won by 66 runs.

Played at the iconic CCI Ground, CCI opting to bat first scored 159/8 in 20 overs. Losing some quick wickets, CCI did looked in trouble at one stage, however Sujit Nayak coming at no.5 scored a match winning 63 off 37 balls laced with 5 fours and 3 sixes. Sujit was well supported by wicket-keeper Ajinkya Patil at no.6 who scored an equally important cameo of 38* in 23 balls (4 fours, 1 six). From the bowlers, Sumedh Kamble with 4/35 was the pick of the lot from Regal CC.

Regal CC in reply could only manage 118/7 in 20 overs courtesy some tight bowling by CCI bowlers. Quickster Krutik Hanagawadi took 3/31 in 4 overs while Harshal Soni & Saksham Parashar bagged 2 wickets each.

Played at Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana, MCA 1, Team C opting to bat first scored 223/10 in 44.3 overs and more than half of the team runs were scored by opener Bhupen Lalwani. Opening the innings, Bhupen went on to score a stunning 137 runs off 122 balls, a knock which comprised of 11 fours and 7 sixes. Bhupen smashed some confident looking shots and kept the scoreboard ticking despite wickets losing from the other end. Akash Mishra with 4/18 in 8.3 overs was the pick of the lot from Team A.

Chasing 224, Team A were all out for 114 runs in 32 overs courtesy tight bowling by Team C Bowlers. Rajesh Sardar with 3/24 in 3 overs was the pick of the lot.

Result: Team C won by 109 runs
