The very fact that you are in the playing XI of a Top Division tournament of Mumbai Cricket is no less than an achievement and then soaking all the pressure, enjoying the moment and even coming up with some memorable performances makes it all the more special. One such player who made it memorable for himself was Manish Rao from Parsee Gymkhana who took crucial wickets of Sarfaraz Khan and Yashwashvi Jaiswal in the finals.
Manish who has played all the 3 formats at domestic level has been grinding hard at club level and performances like this are indeed satisfactory as well as eye opening in more than one ways than one. Parsee Gymkhana batting first scored 204/6 in 20 overs courtesy a brilliant 55 off 32 balls by Sachin Yadav followed by late blitz of Parag Khanapurkar (39 off 18 balls, 1 four, 4 sixes), Shams Mulani (20* off 8 balls) and Manish Rao (13* off 5 balls).

Chasing anything above 180 is difficult and it gets all the more difficult if it’s the finals of a marquee MCA Tournament. Parsee Gymkhana successfully defended their total restricting the powerful line up of Payyade SC to 117 all out in 16.2 overs. Siddhesh Lad was the top scorer for Payyade scoring 55 off 37 balls. From the bowlers, Parag Khanapurkar and Manish Rao were the star performers as both the experienced campaigners came up with 3 wickets each. Parag took 3/20 in 3 overs while Manish took 3/14 in 2.2 overs including two prized wickets of current IPL Players Sarfaraz Khan and Yashashvi Jaiswal.

Parsee Gymkhana won the match by 87 runs and became the crown Champions of T20 Talim Shield Tournament. Sachin’s half century certainly played a pivotal role, Sachin Yadav is now the top scorer of the tournament with 217 runs in 6 matches at an average of 43.16 while Manish Rao gave an all-round performance alongwith Parag Khanapurkar who now has 165 runs and 8 wickets in 6 games alongwith 16 sixes to his name in Talim Shield Tournament.

Watch the Finals on Youtube:
Abeer XI after being put to bat first at DPC Dadar, posted a very healthy total of 185/7 in 20 overs. Even though it was a mixed start to the innings with a few wickets lost early on, however Ram Shukla coming at no.4 changed the game. Ram smashed a quickfire half century smashing 62 off 38 balls which included 7 fours and 2 sixes.
Defending a total of 186, Mumbai Vikings were restricted to just 151/9 in 20 overs courtesy a brilliant spell of bowling by Gagan Tripathi. While Nishant Modi took the crucial wicket of Siddhesh (42 runs) who was looking really good, it was Gagan who provided crucial breakthroughs at the middle order with a short yet effective spell of 4/15 in 2.2 overs. Ram who scored 62 runs also contributed with the ball taking 2 wickets as Abeer XI won the match by 35 runs.

The demand for sidearm specialists is increasing every passing day with most of the franchise teams as well as International teams recruiting sidearm specialists in their squad for training and practice. The profession of sidearm specialist has progressed a lot in the last 2-3 years and one such youngster who is hopping on to the trend with good speciality and skills is Abhishek Jain from Mumbai.
23yr old Abhishek from Mumbai is a professional cricketer himself but he started practicing sidearm since 2017 when the trend was not even picked up. In the last 4 years, he has worked hard on increasing his skills, pace and accuracy. A right handed batsman and a right arm off-spinner, Abhishek himself pursues cricket in Mumbai and plays club level but at the same time he wishes to grow as a sidearm specialist.

Abhishek Jain shared with Cricketgraph:
“Being a cricketer myself, it gets easier for me to learn and understand what the player wants during practice. That’s one benefit I get because I myself play cricket and I realize potential areas to bowl which will benefit the players during practice sessions. I take feedbacks from the players on what areas do they need deliveries to be pitched while I mix my own intuition too, overall it’s been a great learning experience since last 4 years which has resulted in me working with some top players of Mumbai”

Abhishek currently provides sidearm practice under Dinesh Lad sir’s guidance at his academy. For the uninitiated, Dinesh Lad is one of the most sought after cricket coaches in Mumbai who has given India many domestic and international cricketers including the likes of Rohit Sharma and Shardul Thakur. Abhishek’s stock deliveries are Yorker, outswingers and he manages to bowl between 130-135 kmph. Abhishek has been committed to improve on his skills and his commitment towards the work of sidearm has resulted in him working with many Ranji Trophy Level Cricketers.

In the last few years, Abhishek has worked with many players right from Shashank Singh (IPL and Ranji Player), Atif Attarwala (Mumbai Senior Team), Siddhesh Lad (Mumbai Senior Team), Akhil Rajput (Domestic Player), Suved Parkar (Mumbai Jr Team), Aayush Jethwa (Mumbai Jr Team), Rudra Tank (Mumbai Jr, Team), Pranay Kapadia, Ishan Roy, actor Bhaktyra Irani from JNS Jaguars Cricket Team and many more.

Truly Marians opting to bat first at the scenic MIG Cricket Ground in Bandra scored a more than decent total on board of 167/8 in 20 overs. After losing a few quick wickets, Vijay Singh coming at no.4 stabilized the innings with his gutsy half century. Vijay top scored for his team smashing 53 runs off 34 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes. Abhishek Singh with 2/26 in 4 overs was the pick of the lot Sudeep Gokhale also bagged 2 wickets for 8 runs.
Poddar Phantoms in reply could only managed 140/7 in 20 overs with most of their batters failing to convert their good starts into something substantial. It was a disciplined bowling performance from the Truly Marians bowlers with 2 wickets each from Jinesh Kothari and Neelesh Dhamnaskar.
