Mumbai: Gautam Waghela was in solid batting form and cracked an unbeaten double century 201 runs (144 balls, 22×4, 8×6) and powered Karnatak Sporting Association to a thumping 177 runs victory against Sind Sports Club in a first round match of the MCA organized Madhav Mantri Centenary One Day Cricket League 2021 for A & B Division teams and played at the MCA ground, BKC on Sunday.

In another match, the unbeaten efforts of Shrikant Limbole who slammed a century knock of 111 runs and Mansing Chavan 77 runs, steer Mumbai Police Gymkhana to an 8-wicket win against Young Comnrade CC with plenty to spare.

Sind SC after sending Karnatak SA to bat first were sent on a leather chase as KSA amassed a huge total of 375 for 7 wickets in 45 overs. Besides Waghela’s massive innings Ramanpreet Singh scored a solid 80 runs. Vikas Singh was Sind SC’s most successful bowler who finished with 4 for 70 runs. In reply, Sind SC were dismissed for 198 runs in 36.5 overs. Nitin Salekar 43 not out and Aditya Dhumal 43 got some decent runs on the board. KSA’s Vinayak Bhoir picked 4 wickets for 48 runs.

In the match, Mumbai Police after deciding to field first restricted Young Comrade to 269 for 7 in 45 overs. Yogesh Dongare 74 runs, Saurabh Singh 69 runs and Shreeraj Gharat 41 runs propped up the innings.

Chasing a challenge target, Mumbai Police were well-served by Limbole and Chavan as they steadily chased down the runs scorimng 270 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in 42.5 overs.

Brief scores: Karnatak SA 375/7 in 45 overs (Gautam Waghela 201*, Ramanpreet Singh 80, Vikas SIngh 4/70) beat Sind Sports Club 198/10 in 36.5 overs (Nitin Salekar 43*, Aditya Dhumal 43, Vinayak Bhoir 4/48). Result: Karnatak SA won by 177 runs.

Young Comrade CC 269/7 in 45 overs (Yogesh Dongare 74, Saurabh Singh 69, Shreeraj Gharat 41) lost to Mumbai Police Gymkhana 270/2 in 42.5 overs (Shrikant Limbole 111*, Mansing Chavan 77*, Rohit Pol 42). Result: Mumbai Police Gymkhana won by 8 wickets.

In what turned to be a high scoring encounter where almost 400 runs were scored in the day, AIS Sparks opting to bat first at Fatima Cricket Ground in Mumbai, Vidyavihar notched up a total of 192/3 in 20 overs. Opener Aazaz Khan top scored with an impressive 70 off 49 balls while Aditya Jain at no.3 scored 60 off 40 balls laced with 8 fours and 2 sixes.6* off 48 balls. Pramod smashed 7 fours and 4 sixes to set the stage for a perfect chase while Puneet Mehra (40 off 27 balls) and Amol Pawar (18 off 5 balls) did the finishing job for the team.

Pramod Chandan who took a wicket and also anchored the chase with his half century was declared man of the match.

Bombay Blasters after opting to bat first scored a very good total of 185/8 in 20 overs. Opener Siddarth Shetty top scored with 57 runs off 26 balls while lower middle order consisting of Parth Tolia (44* off 23b) and Mubin Shaikh (23 off 10b) gave quickfire cameos to their team.  From the bowlers, Simranjeet Singh with 3/7 in 4 overs was simply stunning with the ball.

Chasing 186 in a T20 is a difficult task at any level of cricket, however no.3 batsman Daiwat Rane absorbed the chasing pressure to score a well crafted 95* off just 49 balls. Daiwat smashed 12 fours and 2 sixes while the rest of the players batted around him as he single handedly steered the team towards a commendable win by 2 wkts and 3 balls to spare.

Daiwat missed out on a well deserved half century but it was knock which helped his team win the match. Daiwat was declared man of the match for his unbeaten 95*

er Risabh Amin top scored with 43 runs while the rest of the batters chipped in with starts to push their team towards a defendable total. From the bowlers, Kunal Thodarwal with 3/26 in 4 overs was the pick of the lot while Zameer Shaikh with 2/25 in 4 overs also bowled an economical spell.

Chasing 161, it certainly required 2-3 players of Athletic Kangaroos’s top order to fire, however they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals despite a heroic effort by their opener Akshay Tungare who scored an impressive 73 off 44 balls, Akshay smashed 4 fours and 6 sixes but only one batsman apart from him managed to score in double digits which eventually meant they were all out for 144 runs in 19.4 overs. From the bowlers, Rahul Shejwal with 3/20 in 4 overs was the pick of the lot.

Mumbai Vikings after being put to bat first at Fatima Cricket Ground in Vidyavihar managed to post a total of 157/9 in 20 overs. Opener Asif scored 41 runs while Amandeep Chadha scored an unbeaten 50 off 41 balls at the middle order. From the bowlers, Dhruveer Gandhi with 2/24 was the pick of the lot.

Avengers chasing 158 won the match by 5 wickets and 1.4 overs to spare courtesy a brilliant start given by their opener Rohit Iyer who scored 86 runs off just 49 balls to change the course of the game. Rohit smashed 14 boundaries and a six while he was ably supported by Amol Saraf (32 runs) with whom he stitched 101 runs for the 2nd wicket.

Dattu Phadkar XI opting to bat first at Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana scored 304/10 in 83.4 overs. Openers Angkrish (51 runs) and Jash Ganiga (34) gave a solid start to the innings while it was Vedprakash Jaiswal at no.7 top scoring with a brilliant hundred. Vedprakash scored 110 off 159 balls at a strike rate of close to 70.00 which included 20 boundaries. Coming at no.7 and batting till the very end absorbing pressure, it was certainly an impressive innings from Ved who once scored 4 back to back double hundreds in Giles Shield Tournament.

Khandu Ragnekar XI in reply scored a massive total of 481 runs with opener Sourabh Singh top scoring with 133 runs. Sourabh scored 133 off 231 balls laced with 123 fours and 5 sixes. Sourabh also stitched a massive partnership with Ayaz Khan who scored 127 runs off 122 balls who came at no.5. Wicket-keeper Sai Chavan also batted well for his 64 runs. Dattu Phadkar in their 2nd innings scored 234/4 in 62 overs with openers Jash Ganiga (100* off 175 balls) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (56 off 100 balls) top scoring in the 2nd innings.

Played on 25th October, 2021, Mumbai A batting first vs Baroda notched up 271/7 in 50 overs with solid half centuries from Divyaansh Saxena and Bhupen Lalwani. Divyaansh top scored for the team scoring an impressive 81 while Captain Bhupen Lalwani scored a solid 61. Baroda in reply were all out for 231 runs with Shreyas Gurav being the pick of the bowlers from Mumbai team with 3/31.

In the match between Mumbai B vs MPCA,  Mumbai B scored 224/10 in 47.5 overs with Maxwell Swaminathan (52 runs) and Vaibhav Kalamkar (50 runs) scoring half centuries. MPCA in reply won the match by 3 wickets not before a tough fight given by the Mumbai bowlers. Varun Joijode took 4/45 while all-rounder Maxwell Swaminathan who scored a half century also took 3 wickets returning with bowling figures of 3/39.

In the match between Mumbai A vs MPCA, Mumbai ‘A’ batting first scored 251/10 in 49.2 overs. All-rounder Khizar Dafedar was the top scorer for Mumbai remaining unbeaten with a knock of 85*. Apart from him Siddarth Akre scored a half century smashing 54 runs. For Madhya Pradesh, the chase looked quite easier courtesy a 156* from Siddarth Patidar as MPCA won the match by 6 wickets.

In the match between Baroda vs Mumbai B, Mumbai batting first scored 230/9 in 50 overs courtesy solid half centuries from Pragnesh Kanpillewar (62) and Chinmay Sutar (62). Both the players brought Mumbai back towards a respectable total. Baroda in reply were all out for 166 runs courtesy a brilliant spell of fast bowling by Jai Kothari. Jai was bang on with the ball as he returned with a fiery spell of 5/30 in 9 overs with 2 maidens.

Played at Fatima Cricket Ground, Vidyavihar in Mumbai, Wicketing Wizards opting to bat first scored 153/9 in 20 overs. Even though it was a shaky start at the top of the order but it was Sachin Ambre at no.5 bringing his team back towards a respectable total with a knock of 56 runs in 38 balls (8 fours, 1 six). From the bowlers, Ajay Thorat with 4/18 in 4 overs was the pick of the bowlers from Antique Friends.

Chasing 154, Antique Friends finished off the chase in mere 15 overs winning the match by 7 wickets.  Nikhil Bhatkar coming at no.3 played the finishers role to perfection as he scored a match winning 67* off 30 balls (10 fours, 2 sixes). Nikhil recently also scored a half century in JFSC Dads Premier League indicating his good form with the bat. The rest of the players batted around him as they cruised towards a comfortable win.

Played at the picturesque Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana, Vijay Merchant XI opting to bat first scored 273/10 in 80 overs with opener Musheer Khan top scoring for Vijay Merchant XI. Musheer individually faced almost 40 overs alone en-route his classy 151 off 237 balls, a knock which included 20 boundaries and one six. Apart from Musheer, Divyanshu Singh at the lower middle order scored 45 runs. From the bowlers, Moin Khan with 3/32 was the pick of the lot.

In reply, Dattu Phadkar XI scored 381/10 in 124.5 overs achieving a lead of 108 runs. Jash Ganiga who opened the innings batted really well facing 325 deliveries for his solid 145 runs. In an era of people trying to hit every ball out of the park, it’s simply impressive to see these youngsters bat with proper red ball technique and temperament. Jash Ganiga smashed 25 fours in his hundred while Arjun Dani at the middle order scored 53 runs off 121 balls.

Vijay Merchant XI scored 212 runs in 2nd innings with wicket-keeper batsman Divyam Shah top scoring with 72 runs.
