Mumbai: New Hind SC and Dadar Union SC scored narrow semi-final victories to set-up a clash in the final of the John Bright Cricket Club organized MCA Rathod Trophy Under-25 T20 knockout cricket tournament, played at the New Hind SC ground, Matunga.

Playing on home turf, New Hind fought well to record a narrow 19 runs victory against Dadar Parsee Zoroastrian (DPZ) in an well-contested semi-final match. The other semi-final also witnessed a tense, exciting finish with Dadar Union SC defeating Payyade SC via the ‘Super Over’ after the scores were tied.

Choosing to bat first, New Hind riding on Vishwajit Jagdale’s 28-ball  half century knock of 55 runs which included five sweetly time shots to the ropes and three powerful sixes managed to reach 186 for 6 wickets from their 20 overs. Rugved More 32 runs and Viraj Jadhav 30 runs also made useful contributions to lift the New Hind total. Ganesh Masurkar 2 for 29 and Atharva Chavan 2 for 34 were DPZ’s successful bowlers.

New Hind bowlers Harshal Jadhav 3 for 19 and Vishal Varande 3 for 31 did the trick by restricting DPZ to 167 for 9 wickets from their quota of 20 overs. DPZ opening bat Monu Chavan made a  strokeful  42-ball 72 runs, while Prashant Pillai 27 runs, and Gamesh Masurkar 24 tried to put up a fight, but their efforts went in vain and finished on the losing side.

Later, Payyade SC batting first made 185 for 5 wickets in 20 overs with Japjeet Randhawa scoring 71 runs and Omkar Ghule making 49 runs. In reply Dadar Union were restricted to 185 for 7 wickets from the stipulated 20 overs. Siddharth Akre struck a 49-ball century 100 with 11 boundaries and five sixes. Payyade bowlers Omkar Ghule 2 for 23 and Dev Patel 2 for 36 claimed crucial wickets to restrict Dadar Union and tie the score.

In the Super Over Dadar Union scored 15 runs for 1 wicket with Akre making 5 runs and Khizar Dafedar an unbeaten 9 runs. Later, Dafedar bowled well and picked up the wicket of Ghule as Payyade managed to score only six runs. Japjeet S. was not out on 5 runs.

Brief scores: New Hind SC 186 for 8 wickets, 20 overs (Vishwajit Jagdale 55 (28, 5,3), Rugved More 32, Viraj Jadhav 30; Ganesh Masurkar 2/29, Atharva Chavan 2/34) beat Dadar Parsee Zoroastrian 167 for 9 wickets, 20 overs (Monu Chavan 72 (42, 7,5), Prashant Pillai 27, Gamesh Masurkar 24; Harshal Jadhav 3/19, Vishal Varande 3/31). Result: New Hind SC won by 19 runs.

Payyade SC 185 for 5 wickets, 20 overs (Japjeet Randhawa 71, Omkar Ghule 49) Vs Dadar Union Sporting Club- 185/7 in 20 overs (Siddharth Akre 100 (49, 11, 5); Omkar Ghule 2/23, Dev Patel 2/36). Result: Match scored tied.

Super Over: Dadar Union 15 for 1 (Siddharth Akre 5, Khizar Dafedar 9) beat Payyade SC 6 for 1 (Japjeet 5).

On May 27, Patil Badlapur Center took on Islam Gymkhana during the MCA U23 Madhav Mantri Cricket Tournament. Patil Badlapur Center won the toss and elected to bat at Khar Gymkhana.

Batting first, Patil Badlapur Center scored 215 in 41.4 overs before getting all out. Vishwajit Jagdale top scored with a delectable 58 off 71 balls, including four boundaries and three sixes. Vignesh Kharge also made a useful contribution of 38 runs from 46 balls, including four boundaries and a six. On the other hand, Islam Gymkhana’s Parth Shah, Arjun Dani and Aman Maniyar were among the most successful bowlers. The trio claimed two wickets each.

In reply, Islam Gymkhana fought hard as they put together 210 runs in 37.1 overs. The match went all the way down the wire as Islam Gymkhana fell short of just five runs in the end. Raj Waghela led the run chase with a 37-ball 57, hitting six boundaries and four sixes. On the other hand, Patil Badlapur Center’s Ankit Vishwakarma scalped 4-55 in nine overs to help his team’s cause. The left arm spinner spun the web to entangle the opposition batters. 

Patil Badlapur Center snatched victory from the jaws of defeat as they Islam Gymkhana by five runs in the MCA U23 Madhav Mantri Cricket Tournament. 

Semi Final 1-

Played between Ghatkopar Center and Bandra Center, Ghatkopar Center batting first posted a total of 152/10 in 47.3 overs. Shreyas Lad top scored for the team with 53 runs while Agastya Bangera bowled a brilliant spell returning with impactful bowling figures of 6/37 providing timely breakthroughs and not allowing the opposition team to settle. Bandra Center in reply scored 153/10 in 47.3 overs taking the 1st innings lead by a 1 run margin to win the semi finals!. Harshil Rathi top scored for Bandra Center scoring 66 runs while Lokesh Mistry from Ghatkopar Center was the strike bowler with 4wkts for 25 runs.

Result: Match Drawn, Bandra Centre took 1st Innings lead

Semi Final 2-

Player between Nahur Center vs Virar Center, Virar team batting first declared their 1st innings at 236/6 in 42.5 overs. Ayush Mhatre played a crucial innings under a high pressure semi final match top scoring with 118 runs. Nahur Center in reply were all out for 121 runs in 34.3 overs courtesy Kartike Shukla who returned with match winning bowling performance of 5/38. Ayush Goriwale also contributed well taking 4/16. Virat Center in 2nd innings scored 183/5 in 31 overs with Shravan Meher (57* runs) and Ayush Mhatre (46 runs) being the top scorers.

Result: Match Drawn, Virar Centre took 1st Innings lead

Played at Worli Sports Club in Mumbai, Mahindra Logistics opting to bat first posted a total of 192/7 in 20 overs. Opener Harshit Janwadkar and no.3 batsman Sahil Madgaonkar stitched 140 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket. Harshit scored 85 off mere 52 balls smashing 10 fours and 1 six while Sahil scored 66 off 49 balls smashing 4 fours and 3 sixes. From the bowlers, Vilohit Desai with 3/46 was the pick of the lot.

Tech Mahindra Group in reply were cleaned up for 65 runs in 14.1 overs with only one batsman managing to score in two figures. Left-Arm Spinner Abhishek Pandey with 3/8 in 4 overs was the pick of the lot while Vinod Banda and Pankaj Kori bagged 2 wkts each as Mahindra Logistics became the Champions of E Division Times Shield.

Played at Oval Maidan in Churchgate, HDFC Bank Ltd after being put to bat first managed to post a total of 116/4 in 20 overs. Even though most of the batters found it difficult to get going, it was middle order players Kishor and Nishant D who stitched a 56 run stand for the 5th wicket which helped HDFC reach a respectable total. Kishor scored 23 off 26 while Nishant scored 38 runs off 27 balls. From the bowlers, Kusal T was the pick of the lot taking 3/7 in 2 overs. Apart from Kusal, Rashik Patel and Amit Mishra bagged 2wkts each. Amit Mishra has been consistent throughout with the ball taking 15 scalps in the tournament which also bagged him ‘Best Bowler of the Tournament’ award.

JSW Steel in reply chased down the score comfortably winning the match by 6 wkts and 5 overs to spare. All-Rounder Kusal T remained unbeaten on 38* off 32 balls smashing 6 fours while Jayesh Patil scored 28 runs off 20 balls at no.5.

Result: JSW Steel Ltd won the match by 5 wkts, Kusal T declared ‘man of the match’ and become Champions of OneWorld Corporate T20 Tournament.

Played at Worli Sports Club in Mumbai, it was the all important finals between DTDC and C GST wherein CGST opting to bat first were all out for 108 runs in 29.4 overs. Opener Tushar Shrivastav top scored with 67 runs while none of the other players managed to make any substantial score. From the DTDC bowlers, Omkar Ghule was simply exceptional with the ball taking 4/5 in 5.4 overs including 2 maidens. Yogesh Sawant also proved quite effective taking 3/38 in 8 overs.

Chasing 109, DTDC won the match comfortably crossing the victory line in the 23rd over and winning the finals by 8 wkts to emerge the C Division Champions of Times Cricket Shield. Omkar Ghule stood out and owned the match both with the bat as well as with the ball as he also top scored with the bat scoring a match winning unbeaten half century. All-Rounder Omkar scored 53* off 37 balls smashing 5 fours and 2 sixes playing the finishers role for his team.

Played at MIG Cricket Ground in Mumbai, PDTSA Boisar after being put to bat first managed to post a total of 200/6 in 37 overs. Tanvish Vaze at no.7 top scored with 58 runs off 59 balls smashing 4 fours and 2 sixes. From the bowlers, Anjdeep Lad with 2/56 in 8 overs was the pick of the lot.  Chasing 201, opener Sahil Gode smashed a match winning century remaining unbeaten and taking his team towards the victory line.

Sahil scored 100*off 107 balls smashing 5 fours and 4 sixes while also stitched a crucial partnership with no.3 batsman Rugved More who scored 73*off 85 balls smashing 5 fours and a six. Both the batters stitched an unbeaten stand of 171 runs for the 2nd wicket as Badlapur Center won in a commanding fashion by 9 wkts.

On May 24 and 25, Mumbai Customs Sports Club took on Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) in the MCA Corporate Tournament. Mumbai Customs won the toss and elected to field first.

Put in to bat, BPCL plundered 305 runs in 54.3 overs before they were bowled out. Harshal Jadhav (82) and Sahil Jadhav (71) muscled delectable half-centuries to power their team to a fighting score. On the other hand, Ankush Jaiswal was the pick of the bowlers for Mumbai Customs. The off-spinner claimed 5-79 in 20 overs, including one maiden.

In reply, Mumbai Customs put up a strong show with the bat as they put together 3-187 in 52 overs. Though the match ended in a draw, Mumbai Customs were declared winners based on a better quotient. Swapnil Pradhan (72) and Sachin Yadav (51) smashed brilliant half-centuries. They stitched a 94-run opening stand to set the foundation for the run chase in the process. On the other hand, Praful Devkate starred with the ball for BPCL. Devkate accounted for 2-37 in 13 overs, including four maidens.

On May 24, National Cricket Club locked horns against Vasatdada Patil College during the U19 Manohar Sawant Cricket Tournament. National Cricket Club won the toss and elected to bat first at Azad Maidan in Mumbai.

Batting first, National Cricket Club piled up 9-236 in 41 overs. Atif Khan starred with the bat as he muscled 31 runs off 20 balls, including two boundaries and as many sixes. On the other hand, Vasantdada Patil College’s Nishant Yadav and Adil Sayyed were the two most successful bowlers. The duo claimed three wickets apiece.

In reply, Vasantdada Patil College scored a paltry 92 in 27.2 overs. National Cricket Club bowled out Vasantdada Patil College to win the match by 144 runs. Opening batter Om Kulkarni was the lone warrior in the fight as he top-scored with a 43-ball 31. Nishit Balla, on the other hand, hampered Vasantdada Patil College’s run chase picking up 5-16 in 7.2 overs, including one maiden. The left arm spinner was the most successful bowler and the most economical bowler for National Cricket Club.

National Cricket Club beat Vasantdada Patil College by a massive 144-run margin in the U19 Manohar Sawant Cricket Tournament.

Played at Bombay Gymkhana in Mumbai, Arupit Tigers opting to bat first made a total of 216/10 in 40 overs. Aakash Jangid at no.5 top scored with 46 runs while Shreyas and Omkar Rahate chipped in with knocks of 39 and 33 runs respectively.  From the bowlers, Harsh Mishra with 3/35 in 8 overs was the pick of the lot while Rahul, Shreyash and Eshaan bagged 2 wkts each. WNS Global ‘B’ in reply were cleaned up for 107 runs courtesy some brilliant bowling by the Arupit bowlers. WNS lost their top 3 batters without opening their accounts and from there they could not get back to a positive momentum. From the bowlers,  Rushi Lokhande,  Hrushikesh Pawar, Shreyas Vaidya and Simant Dubey bagged 2 wkts each in what turned out to be a collective bowling performance from Arupit Tigers.

Arupit Tigers won the match by 109 runs and become the Champions of F Division Corporate Cup.
