Meet the 39-year-old electrical engineer from Thane, Pramod Shinde, who made the most of his time when the world was grappling with COVID-19. Shinde pulled a rabbit out of the hat when he conceived the idea of building a sports complex. Spread over a sprawling area of 10 acres, the sports complex houses grounds for cricket, hockey, and football. In addition to this, there is a beautiful running track and swimming pool. In the coming years, the sports complex will see facilities for lawn tennis, volleyball, basketball, kabaddi, kho-kho, and badminton being added to its repertoire. Apart from the outdoor games, one can enjoy table tennis and chess at the sports complex.
Shinde says, “E-prashala Sports Complex is a CSR initiative of our organisation, E-prashala, which aims at providing digital education to needy students. E-prashala was started in 2009. Since then, we have served over 50 lakh underprivileged students across India.”
The foundation stone of E-prashala Sports Complex was laid in September 2020. Shinde avers, “Travelling up and down from Thane to Umbermali, where the sports complex is located, was not feasible. So my family and I decided to live in a container at the location. We stayed there for six months. My parents, my wife, and my son sacrificed a lot in that period just so that I could achieve my dream.”
Given the lockdown, there was a dearth of workers. Shinde recalls, “Through E-prashala, I interacted with the people in the area. Since we knew each other well, they came to my help. We built the sports complex brick-by-brick together.”
The children residing near the sports complex use the running track and other grounds to play. Additionally, sports academies and teams conduct practice sessions in the sports complex. Shinde states, “My dream is to develop E-prashala Sports Complex on similar lines to Pune’s Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex. I want to have multiple sports under one roof.”
So, if you are looking for a classic coalescence of leisure and sports, then E-prashala Sports Complex could be your go-to place. You can enjoy a beautiful day of cricket in this sports complex, nestled in nature’s lap. After a long and tiring day on the field, you can also relax in its plush cottages.
