The third edition of the Ajit Ghosh Memorial Trophy (T20 Women’s Cricket Tournament) is underway. Under the aegis of the Mumbai Cricket Association, Sporting Union Club and Kalyandas Memorial Sports Foundation have organised this tournament.
On November 16, Mumbai Police Gymkhana locked horns against the Glorious Cricket Club at Shivaji Park Gymkhana. Batting first, Glorious Cricket Club scored 87/5 in 20 overs. Riya Salunkhe (26 runs off 30 balls) and Karuna Sakpal (26 not out off 26 balls) starred with the bat. For Mumbai Police Gymkhana, Sheral Rozario, Nidhi Buley, and Manasi Bodke claimed one wicket each.
In response, Mumbai Police Gymkhana made light work of the run chase, completing the formalities in 16.1 overs with eight wickets in hand. Kshama Patekar was at the helm of the run chase as she muscled an undefeated 50 off 51. The opening batter hammered seven boundaries. For Glorious Cricket Club, Disha Chandak and Prisha Deorukhkar claimed one wicket each.

On November 16, Sporting Club Committee took on Payyade Sports Club at Shivaji Park Gymkhana. Batting first, Sporting Club Committee posted 106/5 in 18 overs. Niviya Ambre scored 59 off 49, including seven boundaries and a six. For Payyade Sports Club, Riddhi Kotecha was the pick of the bowlers with 17/2 in three overs.
In reply, Payyade Sports Club overhauled the target in 16 overs with seven wickets in hand. Khushi Bhatia led the run chase from the front with 39 off 42, including five boundaries. Saima Thakor also made a valuable contribution of 35 not out from 26 balls, hitting three boundaries. Early in the day, Thakor claimed 6/1 in four overs, opening the bowling. She was the most economical bowler. For Sporting Club Committee, Anisha Shetty and Esha Verma accounted for one scalp apiece.
Payyade Sports Club’s Saima Thakor won the player of the match award for her all-round performance.
CCI won a close game against Parel Sporting in their final league game of the Purshottam Shield. Batting first, Parel Sporting managed to score a total of only 215/5 in 45 overs. Aditya Balivada contributed 76 alongside his teammates. With a competitive total on board, Parel Sporting were in the hunt for the win but unfortunately for them it wasn’t meant to be. Sujit Nayak hammered an incredible 73 to take CCI home. Arya Satpute, Chinmay Sutar and Akash Anand all chipped in crucial contributions to make it a successful runchase.

Sind SC successfully managed to chase down the target of 189 against PJ Hindu Gymkhana in the ongoing Purshottam Shield. Batting first, PJ managed a subpar score of 89 as they were bowled out in the 44th over of the game. Sachin Wagh notched up a half century but it was the bowling prowess of Vikaschandra Singh who claimed 4 wickets conceding only 26 runs.
As the run chase began, Sind were losing timely wickets. It was Satyalaksh Jain’s stubborn innings of 60 which aided the Sind SC prevail. Atharva Chavan made a crucial contribution of 37 as well.

The advancing Purshottam Shield witnessed another tight game between National Cricket Club and Goregaon Sports Club where the latter prevailed. Goregaon SC won the toss and elected to bowl which was a wise decision. The National Cricket Club managed only 210 runs in 44 overs. Ameya Dandekar hit 67 runs with his teammate Vishal Dhagaonkar adding 41 runs to the scoreboard. Daksh Agarwal’s incredible spell 3/24 made life difficult for the batsmen.
Goregaon Sports Club entered the field and finished the match effortlessly with more than 5 overs in their pocket. Aryan Patni scored an immaculate 92 while Kaustubh Pawar hit 30 runs. Goregaon SC easily won against National CC with 5 wickets in hand.

In the ongoing Purshottam Shield, the Mumbai Police Gymkhana emerged victorious against their opponents Young Maharashtra. The Young Maharashtra Cricket Club won the toss and elected to bowl. The Mumbai Police Gymkhana scored a whopping 311 runs at the loss of 8 wickets in 44 overs.Rohit Pol hit an incredible century up the order. Skipper Swapnil Kulaye also scored 77 runs as Sunil Patil contributed 48 runs. Salman Khan was the best bowler on the field that day as he claimed 5 wickets in an attempt to contain the batsman.

In the Purshottam Shield, Karnataka Sporting Association and Regal Cricket Club were pitted against each other. The team Karnataka Sporting Association claimed victory over its opponent by 74 runs. They won the toss, elected to bat, and scored a competitive total of 236 runs in 42.5 overs. Gautam Waghela was the top scorer with 81 runs to his name while his teammate Sahil Jadhav contributed 31 runs. Saeed Khot picked up 3 wickets. The Regal Cricket Club’s bid for bragging rights went down the drain as they could conjure only 162 runs in 41.3 overs. Batsman Mohammed Ansari scored 47 runs. Vedant Patil was the pick of the bowlers who claimed 4 wickets for Karnataka helping them successfully defend the total.

The Purshottam Shield witnessed an intense match between Shivaji Park Gymkhana and MIG Cricket Club. The former, winning the toss and elected to pad up. SPG scored just 125 runs in 35.2 overs. All-rounder Gaurav Jathar picked up 4 wickets. SPG fought back by claiming 6 wickets but the runs were too few to defend. MIG Cricket Club chased down the target in 30 overs. Batsmen Varun Lavande and Gaurav Jathar both contributed 32 each. With Gaurav Jathar’s efforts alongside the support of his teammates, MIG was able to win by 4 wickets.

Their opponents scored 2017/10 in 44.4 overs. Aayush Nishigandh hit 81 runs. Batsmen Rugved More scored 66 runs and Harshal Jadhav hit 59. As the match progressed Parikshit Valsangkar scored 49 runs. Young Maharashtra’s Kaustubh Tathare picked up 6 wickets despite the batting performance. The Young Comrades were bowled out at the score of 135 runs. At the end of the second innings, the New Hind Sporting Club emerged victorious by 172 runs.Bowler Nehal Katakdhond picked up 3 wickets.

The DY Patil SA had another successful outing against Bhatnagar SC as they won by 5 wickets. After winning a crucial toss, DY Patil elected to bowl first. This worked wonders for them as they bowled out Bhatnagar SC for just 139. Sai Chavan just managed to score 47 but it wasn’t enough. Suryansh Shedge claimed 3 in the process, bowling Bhatnagar SC for 139.
The DY Patil batters didn’t waste any time and chased down the target under 20 overs. Despite losing 5 wickets, it was Srujan Athawle’s anchoring 70 which helped DY Patil seal the game with almost 26 overs in hand.
